Agra Tandoori in Brighton and Hove

Amazing food and service, my first time trying here and I hope to come a lot more. The staff are super kind and accomodating and the food was finished really quickly. The curry was delicious plus the rice and garlic naan was the best I've ever had from a curry takeaway (and ive had a lot haha). The atmosphere is nice and friendly and you can wait inside for you food if you are getting takeaway which is nice if its raining. I cannot fault this place, I would recommend it big time!!

What a shambles! I ordered food at 7pm and was told to collect at 8pm. I waited inside for ONE HOUR for my food eventually to come out of the kitchen at 9:05. I was being told for 45 minutes it was in the status of being packaged. I had already paid and was told I could not get a refund or I would have left at 8:10. I asked for a discount and was given £20 by an argumentative guy. Avoid.

We have used this takeaway a few times now when visiting family in Brighton and it’s always been nice. This weekend was a complete disaster! Being told our food would be ready in an hour by 8.05pm on Saturday night. We arrived to collect it, and waited until 9.20pm. We were told for 45 minutes our order was being packed and wouldn’t be long. At around 9.10pm we decided we’d waited long enough and asked for a refund, we were met with an argumentative staff member who refused to listen to what we had to say but happily answered back. We got home and have to say our order must have been rushed as it wasn’t up to usual standard, luke warm, onion bajis half the size of usual. I left my number and was told management would be in touch and guess what… I’ve heard nothing! Was a rather disappointing Saturday night.

I’ve been ordering from here for 14 years. You don’t think to leave reviews for your favourites, so putting that right now. This a five-star joint. Personal recommendations: Garlic Chilli Chicken, the tarka daal, peri peri king prawns. Always brilliant, delicious and friendly. An absolute gem.

Food is amazing here, although a bit pricey. Would be great if they could build some automation, customer profiles that kind of thing as it takes forever to order even though we’ve been using them for awhile

We had a bad experience with the last order 3 weeks ago, the lender reached out and said our next meal would be honoured. When I placed the order he did not provide a price for the order, I went to collect and was told he was giving me 10% off, when I showed him the conversation saying my order would be honoured he informed me it was misscommunication on his part and I would only be offered the 10% off. They really do not care about customers at all

Absolutely disgusting...we had a bad experience on the 21st of Febuary the food was water logged as I've seen in other peoples photos,The owner then contacted us after we left a review to be told they would honour the meal next time,so tonight we decided to give Agra a chance to redeem itself only to be told when collecting the food, no we are still expected to pay,they are only offering a 10% discount and it was a miscommunication,AVOID!!!!

Restaurants named under India cousine are managed by pakistan and bangladesh nationals. These people dont have any ideas of indian cousine. I was reading the review which are extremely funny when i came to know that almonds and yoghurt is used for preparing butter chicken, this shows the knowledge of food. I would recommend bombay aloo or either Noories just next to agra brasserie.

Been coming here for several years now and the food has always been top draw! We’ve been getting deliveries occasionally and the food is always hot. Cannot fault these guys! Good team who work hard and produce some excellent food! Good work guys!

Awful experience! The lamb was pink and the curry watery, with small portion size. When calling to complaint we were told that it was because we had collected late the food had developed condensation which resulted in the watery dish and was also told this is what reduced the portion size. Terrible customer service

Told an hour and a half for food, turned up to collect, and told 10 more minutes, then spent a further 30 minutes listening to people complaining. The food was OK, but not worth the hassle, plenty of other places to choose from.

Called this evening to check on allergens before ordering. Asked about a specific dish whether allergen was present, told no idea. I Was then told the allergen I was talking about doesn’t exist! I asked if someone else I could speak to with regards to allergens, told no. Used to be our go to place to order once upon a time and was actually going to travel some distance this evening to collect. Never again, such a disappointment.

I had two take aways both had water once I put on plate which suggests they where frozen iv never in twenty years had water on the plate the first one had at least just under half a cup the second not as much but looked disgusting I only had second as a replacement free of charge I will never go there ever again absolutely disgusting if I could up load pic or vid I would as I used vid to show how disgusting it looked iv just looked at other reviews so many others saying swimming in water and avoid at all costs and hear you are trying to dismiss it ever happens and my review being left two days latter from the Friday the I ordered meal let me ask you are you more bizzy at weekends and Sunday is a down time when your less bizzy well that goes for many others which is why iv found time to leave comment let me remind you another customer whilst I was talking to the driver from your takeaway said that his meal last week was watery and your driver said the person that takes the orders on the phone and stands behind your counter dealing with customers should not keep his job because of his attitude. and could go to restaurant and pay same money over priced Many thanks p.s i didn’t receive replacement meal as i called back after only 5 mins later after being told it would take 45 mins to deliver as driver wasn’t back from other deliveries and said don’t deliver as iv cooked my own food and was told my food had been cooked so it would be sitting for 40 mins

Sheek kebabs was dry and over cooked Chicken vindaloo was watery Please be aware of the £4 delivery charge I will give this a 2.5 star.

We ordered 2 butter chicken that looked like a utter mess and tastes nothing like butter chicken with pilau rice,and a prawn madras which had about 8 prawns and a box full of runny sauce,which had leaked everywhere,no rice 2 popadoms which we didn't order and onion bargiies,we were charged £ 45.70 absolutely disgusting the food was cold, and we had to wait 1hour20 minutes we will definitely not be eating from there again day light robbery,and definitely wont reccomend Name Mitchell, 3 Romsey Close Brighton, BN1 7BQ

We ordered a takeaway for my daughters 17th birthday as a treat. The person who took the order on the phone was so polite and helpful, the food arrived in time and I can honestly say that it was the best Indian food I've ever tasted! I especially loved the sag Pannier, it was so light and not swimming in oil, and I loved the coconut rice as it contains slices of coconut. My chicken Cylon (vindaloo hot) was so tasty. All the food was so tasty and beautifully presented. I wish we could afford to do this more often, but when we can afford another special treat, we will definitely be back and will tell our friends. Thanks for making our night so special!

So i have been eating at this restaurant several times and I placed a order tonight for delivery at 19:00 and they told me on the phone it will be about 1hour 15 mins so I agreed to this, however it got to 20:30 and still nothing so I rang and they said our food is ready they are waiting on a delivery driver which will be about 15/20 minutes to which we said we’re come and pick our order up, as I was dishing our curry’s up baring in mind we have the same curry garlic chicken tikka passander, and it was swimming in water and normally when we have this curry it’s more pinky red we’ll this curry looked like baby sick and we called and said is this right and he said the chef put more cream in and it should taste the same, well I tasted it and could of been sick myself, it was disgraceful so I put it all back and took it back to the shop, to which the manager was so rude and said he will not give our money back and there isn’t anything wrong with the curry to which we reminded him we have had this curry before and it was nothing like that, with arguing with the manger completely refusing to refund us I walked away without any dinner and £40 lighter, will never eat here again and will be telling our friends and family too, customer service is shocking, so please be aware before going here

Food is always good at the Agra BUT the service is struggling. Ordered our food 2 hours in advance and ended up by waiting for an additional half an hour in the take away. They clearly hadn’t started our order until we turned up. What is the point of ordering in advance!!

One of the worst curries I’ve ever had. Swimming in water and tasteless, plus they missed the naan. It would be pricey for a decent meal, but for this it feels like a joke. Never again.

Moved away from the area 5 years ago, came back last night and got a curry and it was just as amazing as I remember. Chicken quality is the best honestly, other places im worried about gross chicken but the breast they use is perfect, bit more expensive but worth. Absolutely delicious. Chicken Phall is just mind blowingly tasty and hot. Leaves me giddy. Maybe worth the journey in future! Far better than our normal local

Absolute rip off , never had a menu but ordered 1x veg biriani, 1 chicken tikka balti , chips and onion bhaji , and the balti never came with rice but cost close on £40 . Never again , avoid

It’s a good curry but very expensive, no better than cheaper places, had items forgotten on multiple occasions plus when you ask for popadoms with a £50 order you would expect more than 2 I just find it a bit stingey for the price you pay overall.

Very overpriced curry. Might have been good before but literally as much as a restaurant and way more than other takeaways locally. Doesnt seem much better than any other takeaways, in fact not able to work out any difference to justify costing so much more.

My regular here, I always pop down here after a good session of mountain biking with the best mate. Really great tasting food, full of flavour. Good portion size too!

I’ve lived in Fiveways for 10 years and my main dislike of Agra has always been that it was too authentic for my liking, too spicy. Now that’s just my personal preference as I prefer a mild curry. Since Sitar closed a few months back I thought I’d give Agra another go. I honestly wish I’d just cooked pasta. I ordered a Butter Chicken, which is usually red in colour and quite sweet. A step higher than a Korma but sweeter. The food I got was so bland and the colour, it was near white! Even a Korma has a nice yellow colour but this, it was like a dirty nappy! The meat wasn’t nice chucks but shredded, dry & overcooked. The thing that’s annoyed me the most is the dish I picked was £15, that was just the Butter Chicken and rice. I questioned why it was so much and was told yes it’s pricey, but it’s good quality… It’s really not. Never again will I visit this curry house. What happened to you guys?! Best curry in Brighton, not really living up to the name there. Pics attached, even my son who eats anything refused to try it. The flash of my camera makes it looks yellow, but it really wasn’t. I’ll be heading into their curry house tomorrow to personally complain, and I’m not that type of person at all. Take that as you will.

Hands down this is the worst Indian takeaway we have ever had. It was bland a d the meat was not marinated and my passanda just tasted like cut up chicken breast chucked in yoghurt. Never left a review in my life but sadly felt compelled to do so this time. I should have known when I walked in and couldn’t smell a thing because this is always a tale tale sign. Time for a new chef because reputation is everything!

Best food in town also great staff that look after my food allergies. Celiac friendly and also dairy-free. Just make sure to tell them! Top marks

The food is ok but so overpriced. Most places include rice, pappadums etc but here at Agra everything is extra and those extras mount up… I could have eaten in at a good restaurant for what I paid for a very mediocre gloopy curry. It used to be my favourite but I won’t be going back.

This is my local Indian takeaway, and we have bought, eaten and loved the food from The Agra for over twenty years. The standard over that time has been consistently great. The Agra uses high quality meat which is beautifully cooked, and the dishes are true to their descriptions. Our favourites are lamb madras, chicken dhansak and cauliflower bhaji. The service in The Agra is always extremely pleasant, even when they are busy, and, in pre-Covid times, the waiting area was always a very pleasant environment. I feel very lucky that this takeaway serving beautiful quality Indian food is right on my doorstep.

I never leave reviews but I felt it was important this once, I ordered a Chicken Dhansak, Chicken Tikka Korma, onion bhajis, prawn puree and a garlic naan and everything lacked flavour. I didn’t think it was possible for an Indian takeaway to be bland but boy was I wrong. Everything was very bland and oily, the bag was full of red oil and all the containers were covered. Such a shame, I will not be ordering again

Very disappointing. Too many orders taken for New year Eve. Didn't get our order as it hadn't even been cooked. One customer had placed a large order at 2pm for pick up at 7pm and that had not been cooked either. Very bad service and most unusual. Will be a long time before we order again!

Just had one from here because our usual place is closed Mondays and I’m gutted I wasted my money. I could not believe how expensive it was. Extremely overpriced, the pathia is £12..... that’s well above all the other places in the area all coming in under £10 And our usual place is more than £3.80 Much better in the area for a much better price. I was a regular customer here many years ago then I moved out of Brighton.so I spoke to my partner and said I would love a nice takeaway curry so it came to me again and I went on the agra website and because of the virus they are delivering food so I picked my partner up from work and drove her to my old favourite Indian takeaway wow we loved it and it had not changed same owner and his son who remembered me apart from my beard lol anyway the food and taste is fantastic I'm hooked again I have had 3 meals from there I the last 3 weeks you must try for yourself because it beats any restaurant or takeaway in hove trust me ok the prices are a little more but and I mean but. Your paying for quality food lovely produce I'm hooked on the tandoori king prawn omg amazing and lots of it. This really is the best curry house we have ever been to. The food is always full of flavour and we especially love the side dishes they offer. Definitely choose collecting at Agra rather than getting any other takeaway delivery.

Beyond impressed! our usual take away has gone down hill big time so we came across this one searching the area. Whilst this place isn't the cheapest take away, it is by far the best and worth it! The Lamb Korai was gorgeous, rich and filling. My little lads Korma also tasted amazing! We'll be back.

Poor quality and overpriced for what you get. I ordered chicken Tikka Masala x2 and the amount of chicken in the portion was abysmal. Overall one of the poorest Indian take away I have ever experienced. Won’t be returning

I honestly think that some of the one star reviews for Agra are from salty local competition, because their food is just so much better (and you can see how clean the kitchen is every time they bring out an order!) Edit: Do Agra care though? Probably not. They don't even need to do deliveries and they get all the customers they want, because their food is far and above the best in the area.

Fuimos a esta comida para llevar (tenga en cuenta que no es un restaurante) debido a las buenas críticas en TA y también porque el propio sitio web de Agra decía críticas que sugerían que era el mejor indio del planeta (por supuesto que dirían eso). Me consideraría un experto en este tipo de comida y esto definitivamente NO era un lugar al que pudieras ir una vez más. Pagamos 43. 50 para dos comidas principales y dos platos de acompañamiento. Todo lo demás se carga en la parte superior (a diferencia de casi cualquier otro restaurante o comida para llevar en el Reino Unido que incluye arroz y ensalada de cebolla, etc. con cada comida principal), poppadoms (que eran viejos, rancios y llenos de grasa), arroz (no me entierren comenzó con el arroz con 3 ajos que llegó con la consistencia de la sémola), incluso la salsa de menta y la ensalada de cebolla y el chutney de mango de 90 p cada uno. El acompañamiento que pedimos era incorrecto, era un plato saag dhal en vez del plato de chick pea saag solicitado. ¿El rey tandoori gamba a las 14 libras sin arroz ni pan naan? ¿Hola? ¿De dónde obtienen ese precio? Y luego la calidad. . . cuando llegamos a casa (no se entregan, así que incluso tienes que recogerlo) era solo un curry estándar muy, muy pantanoso, absolutamente nadando en aceite, king gaal jalfrezi sin sabor real y solo en general un pobre serie de platos de curry. El restaurante, obviamente, utiliza el método de "fórmula de curry", ya que todo sabía en general lo mismo. By far the best I know of anywhere. My father is Iranian and said it is the best curry’s he’s ever had. It is very hygienic and it is as clean as a whistle, ignore any other reviews saying otherwise

WOW! My wife and I visited Agra tandoori for the first time last night! I can honestly say we have found our new curry takeaway house! The Caldine speciality I order was amazing and my wife had the chicken Balti which again complements to the chef! The 2 kids had a tikka and a korma! Staff very friendly and restaurant looks very smart inside and outside! The gentlemen serving at the counter also gave us comolentary poppadoms which was a very nice gesture! We shall certainly be returning most Saturdays!
