I cannot get my head around this restaurant . I’ve left good reviews but the inconsistency of what gets delivered has now taken its toll. I’m done. It always varies in flavour slightly but I mean, look at this picture, who in their right mind throws that many Birds Eye chillies into one portion of jalfrezi? There’s normally 4-5. It feels like they’re just taking the piss now.

Forgot to leave a tip for the driver. There isnt an option after your food has arrived to do it. Maybe look into doing that.

excellent quality as always. Tried the biriani for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the taste. The vegetable curry that accompanied it was delicious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant 👌

Delicious food, great size portions

The food was very good again and some added bonuses were much appreciated. One on the main dishes was missing which was very frustrating but nonetheless, the food we did have was excellent.

Spice Merchant Hove make delicious Indian food! Whenever we can't decide as a family what we fancy, everyone always defaults to SM with a smile :) Their food is always delivered hot and the delivery guy's are friendly. They do decent portion sizes and each dish brings its own flavour & vibe. We love the place!

UPDATED August 2024 The past 3 deliveries have had some cold dishes and some hot. There’s obviously an issue in getting the whole order ready at the same time, also the wait times have gone up, they do their own deliveries I think. Last order, I ordered lamb dansak, they delivered lamb tikka masala. The food is delicious here, but I’ve downgraded them from 5 to 3 stars. I didn’t read the reviews until after I’d ordered. I’m glad about that, because the service was superb, the food even better. Delicious hot food, full of flavour and beautifully cooked. The negative reviews must be an act of sabotage, they certainly don’t reflect the wonderful experience we had. I 100% recommend this place, and will definitely return. 31st December 2020, we ordered our NYE takeaway, something was missing from the delivery, we rang, it was at our door under 20 minutes later. Everything was delicious again, still 5***** review from us. We will continue to order our takeaway curries from here. 10th Feb 2021, just ordered again, we eat from this place about once a fortnight, always delicious and prompt delivery of hot food.

Best curry in Brighton and hove hands down

The delivery was late, and then sent the wrong item. Chicken for a vegetarian, and we had to dig through our black bag to prove it. No way. Never going to happen.

we love a curry (multiple times a week lately) and have found this restaurant which we love! I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone, the food is fabulous, good prices (especially when a deal is on!) good delivery times and most helpful staff. thank you and expect many more orders from us

Starters were really nice, unfortunately when I got round to my main I received chicken not lamb which was a real disappointment as I do not like chicken

Not only was it 45 mins late , cold and paid £10.95 for a korma and got pit full sauce with about 6 max pieces of small chicken in it .. dont no what’s going on today but not happy at all

Tarka dhal was tasty enough but my madras was watery and just tasted of vinegar. Neither curry we ordered had a great deal of meat in it either and the meat was dry. All in all a bit disappointing

Arrived late food was cold food had leaked everywhere naan breads were really undercooked and inedible so was the onion bhaji, onion salad was dry and not fresh chicken was very chewy ordered from here few weeks ago food was much better so maybe a new chef! Rude staff on phone no understanding of what i was asking , i have never written a review but the food was so appalling I need to warn others !

I keep wanting to use this place as it is local, but each time I have tried over the last few years there is always something that puts me off, I feel the vibes are dishonest. The menu on display is not what they charge, and says “oh we have not updated that” . Surely it does not take 6 months to update a menu…. Same excuse tonight as it was 6 months ago, and I can see someone else left similar review 3 months ago. If this food was good I might let it go ….. but the food is below average too. That was my last visit….I’ve been in this neighbourhood for 16 years … the last owners were not great. … but this is worse.

The food all had no flavour and the pilea rice taste of water, and Samosa in the mix starter Feels to me that it was from the cash n carry and cooked from frozen a complete waste of money

Told me my order was delivered to my house (which it wasn’t), so called up to ask they said they do that when an order is late? Also I was delivered the complete wrong order and when i called up again they said one of the dishes was very similar to the one i ordered and that it shouldn’t matter. Poor customer service!

We had a bit of an issue with the driver finding the location (caravan site) but we managed to resolve it easily. Food was good and hot.

It Is Amazing Food 🥘 Tests . specially Chicken 🍗 biryani 🍛 is Very Very Good Quantity and Test is 1st Number. One takeaway ❤️❤️

Food took longer than expected. Cheese was burnt, garlic nann bread was burnt and hard.

Food was an hour late, delivery driver couldn’t find my address, didn’t seem to understand how to find an address, had to go out and find him, my address is not difficult to find. Food was cold, watery and tasteless, poppadoms all crushed, extremely disappointed. Restaurant not very apologetic.

I was unable to order KING prawn Madras or Dhansak for some strange reason; they are not listed except for prawn Madras and prawn Dhansak. I know they do it and there are many other KING prawn dishes.

Ordered from here about 10 times. Great prices, great portions. All the classic curry dishes cooked in the curry house style.

Great place, the staff were very polite and welcoming from the start, food was really Well cooked and clearly fresh and reasonable prices throughout. a very nice a clean looking shop also, this is a very nice Indian takeaway and definitely one to try…

Curry was watery and flavourless, naan bread was rock solid. The whole dinner just had no flavour!

They forgot our naan bread and we paid extra for a lamb dupiaza and they gave chicken

Very late and food wasn't hot so I would like some money refunded. To be late by nearly an hour is ridiculous. If it was around 6-7pm maybe it's acceptable when I get it at nearly 10pm instead of 9pm that's not.

Haven’t had this in a couple months but it was a little disappointing. Dryer than usual and the poneer was waaay over done.

Dishonest , different prices in menu than the one they charge the customer for. If dishonest with the price then they are properly dishonest with the food ingredient and quality. Stay away from this takeaway and always check the price you’re being charged for.

our keema nann had little to no meat in them and i never got my poppadom which i love and over all not as tasty as we have had before

pathia had about 2cm of oil across it but was tasty. onion salad had fresh coriander so I couldn't eat that. would order again

I can’t fault the food, however after the 3rd / 4th time of not reading the notes it frustrated me. Pilau rice was delivered and not plain rice, too many cumin seeds. Also coriander was requested not to be added on top of a dish, was covered. Apologies but I hate it and it ruins a dish. Also the onions were not fully cooked and had a hard crunch, which ruined the dish as well as it was packed full of them. Genuinely love this place, but need to read notes better!

Usually it's good here but this time the rice was cold, mushy and watery. Hopefully this is a one off.

Such a shame to order a delivery time 2.5 hours in advance to enjoy with the kids and it still turn up 30 mins late

Didn’t even arrive. Said delivered half hour ago when it hasn’t. Called shop and they didn’t want to help. Won’t be ordering from here again.

Awful missing food and really late

When the driver arrived he was smiling and friendly. The food was good and portions good.

The brinjal bhaji tasted so bad I had to throw it away the curry was flavourless, was a waste of money!

Really upsetting experience overall. Basically, over 40 min after I got the notification that driver is on the way I gave the restaurant a call, the told me that the driver is around the corner and will be with me in 5 min. 10 min later the food was not with me do at this stage I called them again and told them that I don’t want a food that was sitting in a car for an hour and I would like the refund (at this satge it was 2h since I placed the order). Have been getting our Indian from here for years now. But sadly will go elsewhere now as been quite late last few times. They shouldn’t commit to a delivery time, and it’s quite a generous window, if they cannot deliver.

Food was very bad tasting. Chicken not editable. Then they overcharged for it! Honestly don’t bother ordering from there. If you saw the kitchen there is no way this passes food hygiene at all. No gloves, no washing hands, just dirty all round.

Very good tonight. Chicken cooked very well and sauce consistency was spot on. Naan was not too doughy, just fresh and perfectly baked.

Utter pee take , ment to be by 18.35 to have to ask were was at 19.00 to be told changed to 19.20 then didn’t come had to call them said 5 mins away and still at 20.05 wasn’t there absolute joke … and got to me 20.15 cold so were had the driver been for over a hour with my food !! Wouldn’t use again
