The best food and the best service, v happy!

And on the 8th day, god said let there be Spice Merchant. My weekly curry is the only thing that keeps me going. The food is sublime, the staff are delightful and the world is a better place with this glorious establishment.

unfortunately the food was just OK, hardly any meat, sauce was as if poured out of a jar and the food was cold as I was staying in a hotel I had no means to heat it up. I had a discount of 40%, if I had paid full price I would have complained. delivery was excellent on time and followed directions.

Driver was worried as he was 3 mins late ! Hot food , very tasty and the Tuesday discount meant i ordered far more than i should have but i enjoyed it all lol .

Food was delicious, great quality and generous with the meat, my only complaint is that I paid extra for mint yoghurt to dip my poppadoms in and it was such tiny amount. saying that I have discovered my new favorite curry house and will order again

The Lamb bhuna in the set meal says it comes with pilau rice but none was delivered. Ok quality, but wasn’t very warm on arrival.

I am doing first time a bad coment on a takeaway, first time i feel i wasted money on food, Naan bread was uncooked and thick. Its look like a tandoor chef was on off and any untrained person made those breads( garlic , chilli and tandoori roty). Just veg rice and reshmi kebab was average, all the curries was tasteless( madras sauce, tadka dal, matar paneer. I bin 70% of food. Thanks spice merchat.

Order took 2hrs to arrive, not acceptable

Food was not very good at all. Naan bread wasn’t cooked so was more like a dough, and the two curries had no taste. It was like eating fresh air.

The food was nice but the delivery driver refused to bring the food to the door and demanded I meet him at his car. I don’t really expect that type of service.

so we order around 5:55 and our delivery turned up at 7:30 now I understand when a place is busy but the app told U it would be 45 minutes then at the end of that 45 the app told us it had been sent out for delivery then it took another 40 minutes!! once it was eventually with us it was all cold and one offf my Currys had been crushed and lost a lot of it in the bag and all over everything else. Then to realise we had my partners mushroom rice was missing wich was charged extra for!!

The curry flavours were all wrong. The generic/store bought popadoms and peshwari naan saved the meal. Only buy if they're on heavy discount and if you're happy with a generic low quality curry (there is a time and place!)

Cannot fault the food, absolutely delicious thank you. Delivery was 15 minutes late but was worth the wait. Thank you Spice Merchant!! Will definitely order again.

Delivery was great but food has gone down hill- sag aloo was plain and mushy- curries were just alright and the portions were smaller than they used to be. Got about three regular sized chicken chunks with the chicken tikka, and a few tiny pieces. Just a shame because they used to be really nice. Can’t fault the delivery at all though as they were fast and easy to communicate with

food was okay just very oily and a little runny not the best but not the worst

Curry was half hour late...wierdest ceylon ive ever had, im sure it was even different to ones ive had from here in the past? Naan arrived cold & tasteless. Onion bahjees were mushy and grim. Sadly the best thing was the rice & popadoms

The delivery driver was rude and unhelpful. i tried giving him instructions but everytime i went to talk he talked. then he kept asking me to go out and get the food. not ideal when you pay for delivery. He also told me he would try 1 more time and then just go back to tbe restaurant. He was rude and the food when eventuallu turned up was cold

Food really nice. Food Temperature poor, poppadom bendy, and late, which is a real shame as the food is good

Over 50 minutes late freezing cold and nan bread soggy and uncooked. Called up restaurant to be told very busy that’s why it’s late. Order from here every week it’s getting worse and worse Shame because the curries are so nice. Will find a new curry house.

Food came 30 min later than the end of the delivery slot ... This was actually over 90 min since we ordered it. Food wasn't cold when it arrived but wasn't exactly hot either.

This place used to be delicious, but recently they've been slow to deliver, and the curry itself is way less flavoursome and spicy

Luke warm food and completely tasteless. Very disappointed

The food arrived almost an hour after the estimated time and 25 minutes after the Just Eat app said it had arrived. The food wasn't even lukewarm, the onion bhaji bag was dripping in oil and the chicken pathia tasted bland, not sweet and sour.

half an hour later after the max delivery window, food was average, lukewarm at best and the dhansak was essentially a korma....

Unfortunately it's not a good curry. The Naga lamb which is meant to be a medium/hot curry but it just tastes of tomato with no heat, mild at best. That's not me pretending to be double hard about how much spice I can handle, it literally just tastes of tomato. The chicken biryani is overcooked and mushy, and the vegetable curry with it is very greasy. The naan is ok, the only bit I could recommend. It's my first time trying here and I won't be heading back.

I cannot get my head around this restaurant . I’ve left good reviews but the inconsistency of what gets delivered has now taken its toll. I’m done. It always varies in flavour slightly but I mean, look at this picture, who in their right mind throws that many Birds Eye chillies into one portion of jalfrezi? There’s normally 4-5. It feels like they’re just taking the piss now.

One of the best korma’s and masala’s my children have tasted. Will definitely be ordering again

Forgot to leave a tip for the driver. There isnt an option after your food has arrived to do it. Maybe look into doing that.

excellent quality as always. Tried the biriani for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed the taste. The vegetable curry that accompanied it was delicious. Would definitely recommend this restaurant 👌

Delicious food, great size portions

The food was very good again and some added bonuses were much appreciated. One on the main dishes was missing which was very frustrating but nonetheless, the food we did have was excellent.

Spice Merchant Hove make delicious Indian food! Whenever we can't decide as a family what we fancy, everyone always defaults to SM with a smile :) Their food is always delivered hot and the delivery guy's are friendly. They do decent portion sizes and each dish brings its own flavour & vibe. We love the place!

UPDATED August 2024 The past 3 deliveries have had some cold dishes and some hot. There’s obviously an issue in getting the whole order ready at the same time, also the wait times have gone up, they do their own deliveries I think. Last order, I ordered lamb dansak, they delivered lamb tikka masala. The food is delicious here, but I’ve downgraded them from 5 to 3 stars. I didn’t read the reviews until after I’d ordered. I’m glad about that, because the service was superb, the food even better. Delicious hot food, full of flavour and beautifully cooked. The negative reviews must be an act of sabotage, they certainly don’t reflect the wonderful experience we had. I 100% recommend this place, and will definitely return. 31st December 2020, we ordered our NYE takeaway, something was missing from the delivery, we rang, it was at our door under 20 minutes later. Everything was delicious again, still 5***** review from us. We will continue to order our takeaway curries from here. 10th Feb 2021, just ordered again, we eat from this place about once a fortnight, always delicious and prompt delivery of hot food.

Best curry in Brighton and hove hands down

The delivery was late, and then sent the wrong item. Chicken for a vegetarian, and we had to dig through our black bag to prove it. No way. Never going to happen.

we love a curry (multiple times a week lately) and have found this restaurant which we love! I would not hesitate to recommend to anyone, the food is fabulous, good prices (especially when a deal is on!) good delivery times and most helpful staff. thank you and expect many more orders from us

Not only was it 45 mins late , cold and paid £10.95 for a korma and got pit full sauce with about 6 max pieces of small chicken in it .. dont no what’s going on today but not happy at all

Tarka dhal was tasty enough but my madras was watery and just tasted of vinegar. Neither curry we ordered had a great deal of meat in it either and the meat was dry. All in all a bit disappointing

Arrived late food was cold food had leaked everywhere naan breads were really undercooked and inedible so was the onion bhaji, onion salad was dry and not fresh chicken was very chewy ordered from here few weeks ago food was much better so maybe a new chef! Rude staff on phone no understanding of what i was asking , i have never written a review but the food was so appalling I need to warn others !

I keep wanting to use this place as it is local, but each time I have tried over the last few years there is always something that puts me off, I feel the vibes are dishonest. The menu on display is not what they charge, and says “oh we have not updated that” . Surely it does not take 6 months to update a menu…. Same excuse tonight as it was 6 months ago, and I can see someone else left similar review 3 months ago. If this food was good I might let it go ….. but the food is below average too. That was my last visit….I’ve been in this neighbourhood for 16 years … the last owners were not great. … but this is worse.

The food all had no flavour and the pilea rice taste of water, and Samosa in the mix starter Feels to me that it was from the cash n carry and cooked from frozen a complete waste of money

Told me my order was delivered to my house (which it wasn’t), so called up to ask they said they do that when an order is late? Also I was delivered the complete wrong order and when i called up again they said one of the dishes was very similar to the one i ordered and that it shouldn’t matter. Poor customer service!

We had a bit of an issue with the driver finding the location (caravan site) but we managed to resolve it easily. Food was good and hot.

It Is Amazing Food 🥘 Tests . specially Chicken 🍗 biryani 🍛 is Very Very Good Quantity and Test is 1st Number. One takeaway ❤️❤️

Food was an hour late, delivery driver couldn’t find my address, didn’t seem to understand how to find an address, had to go out and find him, my address is not difficult to find. Food was cold, watery and tasteless, poppadoms all crushed, extremely disappointed. Restaurant not very apologetic.

I was unable to order KING prawn Madras or Dhansak for some strange reason; they are not listed except for prawn Madras and prawn Dhansak. I know they do it and there are many other KING prawn dishes.
