Curry Leaf in North East Derbyshire

Tried Curry Leaf for the first time on a recommendation. Ordered takeaway of Onion bhaji starter, Rashmi kebab starter, Chicken Madras, Garlic Lamb Bhuna, Pilau mushroom rice and Garlic Keema Naan. The Onion Bhaji are the flat burger type and not the traditional "onion ball" type but we tucked in to enjoy all the same, unfortunately they were tasteless (not even of onion) and the spicing was non existent. The Rashmi kebab starter (minced lamb wrapped in omelette was exactly the same as the bhaji's, devoid of any flavour and spicing. Chicken Madras on a positive note was full of chicken but the curry itself was one dimensional, just tasted harsh with added spiciness. Garlic Lamb Bhuna again was full of lamb but again was one dimensional, tasted harsh and swimming in oil. The Mushroom Pilau rice and Garlic Keema Naan were the highlights of our meal which just shows how in our opinion how poor overall the meal was if the 2 side dishes were the star of the show. As I said at the start of the review this was our first time trying Curry Leaf for Indian takeaway, would we return.......not based on the quality of the food we received. As with all things it could have been a bad day at the office, however we won't be returning for second helpings....very dissapointed.

I ordered half tandoori chicken and curry leaf special. The tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala had too much food color in it. I would like to suggest the person who made this to make it look more edible rather than look it terrifically red. I would also like to know what food color was used: natural or artificial. Certainly the tummy is not happy after eating tandoori chicken with all that color. The color has stuck onto my nails and tongue as if I have become a vampire. I don't recommend buying something that looks blood red. It is concerning. If the shop owner is going to say that I did not order from here or we don't know someone like this I have strong proofs to defend. I would suggest not to use this much food color. Nothing is good for health when it is too much.

Had takeaways from here many times before. Always thought it was nice. Last nights was exceptionally nice. And for some reason I phoned up afterwards to tell the owner how much I appreciated it and how well they’re doing. Very nice, top marks

We had a fantastic meal again here . Food is exceptional and portions are really big , great value. Visited numerous times in curry leaf and service are excellent. They did look very busy though, it won’t put us off going again thank you!!

Went for a meal with family last night. Was absolutely beautiful. Massive portions. Lovely fresh ingredients. Great service. We often go with friends too. As it’s such good value and you can take your own booze. This was the first time I’d tried a sizzler dish. Wow. Incredible. 😃

Second visit last night new years eve. What a fantastic experience from the helpful friendly staff to the amazing food what an enjoyable experience far better than the other local curry house in Brimington.

We’ve had take aways from here for years and we have recently started to eat in the restaurant. The food is incredible, every meal has been perfect. The staff are always friendly and the food is always hot and it’s so reasonably priced!

We visited for the first time tonight and we were very impressed the Tandoori platters, Biryani, korma, bhuna and naan all top knotch and tasted amazing.

Not been before and had a very enjoyable time. Good intimate atmosphere with pleasant staff. Food was delicious & well presented. Take your own alcohol. I highly recommend this restaurant.

My last visit to the Curry Leaf was frankly poor but I was given a second visit last night as a thank you from a friend and boy o boy the evening was really good the whole experience was what you would expect from a good restaurant, I guess every one has a off day but now they've pulled it back to where it should be, thanks to all the team at Staveley Curry Leaf. I've personally ordered food from Curry Leaf over 2023. They have never delivered an order that is below par. They are well above par by the way and ignoring other peoples comments. Will continue ordering in 2024. Recommend their Rogan Josh.

ordered on friday prawn puree was like water with the flaky pastrie not sent. The main meals were salty to greasy and to much red food dye in every order. poor quality and not intereted when you complain,we will not be ordeing again. our order was £60 plus.

Last time I will be ordering from here. Oily, had to warm it up in microwave. More salt than the dead sea. They must get through cooking oil. Chicken in a red dye, god knows what that was. Even the rice is lathered in oil.

A group of seven of us chose Curry Leaf at late notice after being told that the restaurant we intended to visit was closed for holidays. We certainly made the right choice as the food and service were excellent. It's bring your own alcohol (Morrisons over the road) and the food prices are extremely reasonable. All dishes were well presented, piping hot and extremely tasty. I eat a lot of Indian meals and this was one of the best I've had for a long time. Highly recommended.

Had a take away ordered two mains from the chefs signature dishes both were exceptional and rang them to say so, brilliant service throughour thank you.

Ordered for the first time here this evening (27th July 2023). Food arrived in 45min. Everything was piping hot. Food was fresh and fragrant. Both of us really enjoyed our starters, mains and sides. Plenty of everything and good prices. Only thing less than perfect was that the cans were Pepsi instead of the Coke advertised on their app. We don’t mind Pepsi though so no problem for us. We will definitely be ordering again and trying more dishes from this restaurant!

Arrived on a Friday and needed something to eat in town and came across this place on Google. I walked in to a very clean, empty restaurant and asked for a table. I was seen quickly and courteously and initially ordered a cold drink. Which came quickly. After about 5 mins I was asked if I would like to order. The menu is quite extensive and I would have liked to have tried something a little exotic and there are plenty of dishes there that are not in a lot of restaurants but I decided to go for a favourite, tandoori buttered chicken. They had Ghee rice as I hadn’t tried that before (cooked with almonds and I assume methi) and a plain paratha. I waited maybe up to ten mins for the food and I was quite shocked at the portion size when it arrived, it was more than I could manage I found out later. The butter chicken was nice and tender and had lashings of rich buttery sauce on it. The rice was fantastic, a nice nutty aroma and taste which made it stand out. In fact the menu had many different rices that I had never seen before, shame I won’t get to try them. The paratha… well, it was enormous. Now all the food was piping hot but this was on a nuclear level 🤣. It was that hot I couldn’t pick it up until halfway through my meal, but it was delicious and helped with mopping up some of that sauce. The waiter (manager?) that took my order checked to ensure my food was okay and spent a moment talking at the end of the meal and invited me to stay as long as I wished to let my food settle. All of that food was very reasonably priced too and I was surprised at my meal being just £16. If I am ever back up this way I will certainly pop in here for a meal.

Ordered from here a few times and not had any problems, Ordered tonight for 4 people and spent quite a lot off money for it to take 2 hours and all off the food came freezing and not eatable. None off us was able to eat it. Never be ordering again.

I never leave a bad review but that was one of the worst takeaways I’ve ever ordered. 4 people eating a fairly large order it took over 2 hour to come and when it arrived it was stone cold + food tasted and looked like it had been stood for a long time. All 4 of us binned it and put frozen pizzas in oven. it was horrible 🤢

Ordered out food at around 7.00PM. When I say ordered our food I mean a large family ordered nearly £60 worth of food and waited 2 and a half hours, it arrived at 9.10pm. The food arrived absolutely freezing cold, normally when you see a review that’s just moaning about the food arriving cold you may think “these things can happen if they’re busy etc” but the fact that not one person in my family ate more than a mouth full and I’ve had to put in frozen pizzas for our tea at 9.35PM has absolutely infuriated me, I called the restaurant and explained that the food was not edible, every single curry was stone cold, my partner bit into the chicken and mistakenly thought it was still “frozen” but nope, it was just absolutely freezing. The restaurant did not care at all, I explained my concerns was the food being so cold and after spending £60 on an Indian I expected them to show some remorse, I am absolutely fuming. No we did not receive a refund nor was we given a new batch of warm food, I am not one to leave a review in fact I think this would be my first or second ever, this restaurant needs to be avoided.

Always expect a longer wait this time of year but we’ll over 2 hours into waiting and still nothing. Called 3 times only to be told 5-10 mins… clearly lies very disappointing as a very loyal customer for many years. Never again :(

I love this place. Such lovely staff that comes out of the kitchen to talk to us and explains the Indian traditions. The food is always amazing!

Ordered for 20.30 turned up at 18.30. Asked if would be freshly cooked if came back at requested time and assured that this would be the case. At 21.00 I called after still not receiving our food. It arrived 10 mins later with the poppadoms looking like they had been in a fight and the main courses very much reheated from the earlier delivery. £30 down the drain BEVER AGAIN!

Excellent went for daughters birthday and the meal was completely faultless normally curry houses do a good starter and let down with the mains, but not here the starters was excellent as was the mains, I can not fault the food, the service, the price friendly staff highly recommend .

Not the first time it’s been very late and cold this time I went and collected a refund after them trying to just apologise for over a hour and a half and still no food

Ordered from here many times no issues. Tonight I have ordered at 6pm and it is now 19.44 and no delivery. Chased half hour ago and said it was on its way. Your a joke. Go to chutney spice they can deliver on time

We ordered last weekend via just eat. After an hour and 30 mins we had a notification on just sat to our order had been delivered, but it hadn’t. After waiting another 20 mins we called the restaurant and to say the man that answered the phone was extremely rude is an understatement! Apparently just eat make their times up and their app sends notifications as and when it wants! When we asked if he knew how long the food would be he started shouting saying he didn’t know and that drivers take more than order and he doesn’t have trackers on all the cars, it’ll get there when it gets there! Nearly 2 hours later it did arrive, it was cold the korma was like water and the onion bhaji was just a ball of grease. Deffo won’t be ordering from there again food and customer service pretty awful! Looking at other reviews they should come off just eat, but obviously just want the income.

Took nearly 2 hours to be delivered when originally told 45 minutes. If I knew it would have been that long I would have fetched it!! Freezing cold when it arrived and attitude when you call is poor by the men! Often ordered from here but each time service is getting worse, such a shame as the food is usually nice!

Awful is a word that sprung to mind. We’ve ordered several times and seems to be hit and miss, ate in a few times and there is always an excuse to why service is shocking, food late comes in drive and drabs. But last night was woefully poor, ordered some mixed meat starters ‘lamb missing’ ordered a mixed tandoori grill main guess what no lamb, called the restaurant and told them guess what another poor excuse, ‘ sorry mate not got any lamb not been able to get it for over a week now’ my response but you didn’t tell me ‘well mate it’s on the website’ I didn’t use the website ‘ so sorry mate the girl should have called you to tell you’ she didn’t ‘well I’m sorry mate’ and hung up. Guess what it’s not on the website I went straight on, secondly you don’t know me so I’m not your mate. Additionally if that wasn’t bad enough I didn’t get chance to tell you the meat was burnt and dry. We won’t be using you again, you’ve lost a good customers… So my advice is choose another Indian restaurant/takeaway because you’ll only waste your money.

If I could give zero stars I would. So to start with we ordered with just eat, the order was late so we rang the restaurant, they said they were having problems with just eat not communicating with them properly, so the delivery time was wrong on the app. When it finally arrived 2 hrs late it was cold and I found three hairs in my pilau rice. I then rang the restaurant to tell them this and I was told that they had delivered it on time, and that there was no way there was a hair in the food. Well the hairs I found were black and I am a blonde and all I did was transfer the rice from the tray to the plate so no way it was from me. They did not offer any refund and put the phone down on me suggesting that I was messing them around. Very disappointing, I would avoid at all cost.

Ordered 1835. Arrived 2011 from less than a mile away. Food luke warm. More oil than chicken in the bhuna. Dansac wasn't a dansac. Raw chapatti. Burnt naan.

So took over an hour and 15 minutes to come forgot my chips, rang up to tell them and they tell me it's going to be another 25minutes then pickle tray sauces are half full and the salad bags less then half full! When paying £35 for an Indian that takes so long to come you'd think they'd put more effort into getting it right and correcting the issue what a waste of time and money definitely not ordering from them again and will be sticking to chutney spice

It’s so easy to complain rather than compliment! So it burdens me to complain, just be honest if you’re busy loyal customer will wait! Don’t just take order then , deliver nearly 2 hours later and blame the driver who had no idea order was placed 2 hours prior 🤷🏾‍♂️

Discussed the behaviour off the driver we was told a price and driver wanted an extra £5 aggressive wanted a fight threatening my partner who is severely impaired also phoned the shop up and they was even worse always left these good feed back but I will never ever order from these again eaten in the restaurant was always perfect the driver needs sacking had all neighbours out over this wasnt nice

Was great, now best order online and get delivered. The just eat alarm constantly screaming at the counter is unpleasant. We left after waiting an hour for starters that never arrived only to be lied to and told "it will be out in a minute" then someone arrives at the table questioning what we had ordered! If your going to lie to customers then consistency is key!! We won't be visiting or ordering online. Get your act together.

Best curry we've had in years! The chef knows his spices. Only let down by the missing poppadoms and pickle tray I ordered. It looked extremely busy and chaotic when I collected so I wasn't surprised my order got messed up. Perhaps the quality of the food is attracting many customers to them.

Absolutely awful. Ordered a meal for two and it was estimated a 45 minute delivery time. After 2 hours of waiting, we rang up to be told it will be with us in the next 10 minutes and that it was busy because it is a “bank holiday”. It is a typical Friday evening, not a bank holiday. After waiting another hour, we rang again and they claimed that it had been sent out 5 minutes prior. When it actually came, the food was barely warm and items were missing. We rang the store again and they acted as if it was our issue now and proceeded to argue with us. It’s bad enough that your food is 3 hours late but items missing topped it off. Pretty disgusted with this whole experience and the state of the employees customer service. Will not be ordering from here again.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE! Ordered a take away and told it would take an hour for delivery. After an hour and a half no food so we rang and were told it had just left. After waiting 2 hours we rang again. They'd delivered it to the wrong house. Totally rubbish! It was ordered online so we know they had the correct address. Only thing they offered was order again and wait another 90 minutes.

We popped into the Curry Leaf on the spur of the moment, without checking any reviews, and I'm glad we did. Our experience was nothing but positive. The food was excellent, steaming hot, and with generous portions. It was also beautifully presented, with vegetables curved...

Ordered the chief's signature dish Tawa Gost for something different and more authentic along with some other well known dishes....it was blooming lovely. Delivered a little earlier than expected, nice and warm. Would recommend 👌

Food is poor and it took them 2 hours to deliver it. Hamburger meat was burnt and it was the bun and the meat only. Will not order again.

We've ordered from here on a few occasions and it is always, always late. Sometimes late with missing items. And when I say late I mean over an hour late every. Single. Time. Just cancelled our order as again, over an hour late. So they tell you an hour but you'll be very lucky to have it when they say. We will never order from them again.

Take out + dine-in is available. Very friendly staff. Maintenance of the building going on. Still on active mode .

Can't fault the service or food, was recommended this restaurant and will be going back. Very generous portions, so much so we took some food home. If you didn't know this place were there you could miss it, one minor issue, we arrived just as it opened 17:00 and it was a little cool but the staff advised we sit below the air con heater and all was well.

Hi, ordered. Curry last night and delivery was fine, however opened poppadom bag to be greeted by a large fly walking on the poppadoms. Absolutely disgusted and binned all the food. Called them and they offered to replace the poppadoms? Only. How can you eat...

This restaurant was one of my favourites to go to! The food was amazing and the service was so professional! The staff were so helpful and they made our experience one to remember ! Definitely recommend and will be coming again !!!

After years of ordering from here we never used to have any problems. Until the past 4-5 time we have had 2 wrong orders and they seem to get later and later with delivery. I'm talking 30 minutes to an hour after the estimated delivery time, and the last one was 1hour and 45 minutes later and still no food .I called and asked for a full refund and cancelled the order that was "ready and they could delivered straight away" ! Lost a loyal customer .👋

I order my food and it had come with in an hour but it was wrong unfortunately. however they sorted my food out and reimbursed my money amazing customer service especially sky that answered the phone really polite and outgoing and honest people.

We normally always order curry from here. Not sure if it’s new people but we haven’t had a curry for a few months but tonight’s food was tasteless. My husband only got a few pieces of lamb in his bhuna, my curry had no taste and was very watery. The onion bhaji had no taste and was just full of grease. The only thing we could taste was the naan bread and even that was burnt. Very disappointed in this tasteless meal

Used a few times didn’t accept my order but didn’t tell me until I got there so had to wait then forgot some off it . Some times delivery takes half hour longer when you call up some young incompetent school girls answer and don’t know what happening .Don’t recommend dining in either the place is empty we was the only couple yet it took ages for meals to come

Order every week food is beautiful was my previous review bit after 3 bad orders I am changing this to a 1 star as all I ask is my food is warm and and my cold goods are cold on arrival, after calling up and trying to rectify this I'm left waiting for a call back from management I have called numerous times to no avail. We now will not eat anywhere else! We moved to this area from Cheltenham nearly 5 years ago and in that time, must have tried every single Indian restaurant around. This is hands down the best Indian Restaurant food we've ever had (Cheltenham included) - everything is simply unbelievably delicious - we live 9 miles away and it's never less than piping hot. They seem to be extremely busy (understandably), we’ve placed many orders and only once forgotten something (it was only two dips for the poppadum’s, but they give plenty anyway so we didn’t want to waste their time coming all the way back over here (which I’m sure they would have done) – so on the next order I simply left a note mentioning this and if they could ‘possibly please check that we had the full range of pickle trays this time’..... The food turned up, I checked for the 4 sauces and found... 16!!! I was made up – we had to get more pappadums to eat the rest the day after! Fantastic food, fantastic service (the two never go automatically hand in hand) and thank you to the team there who make Saturdays nights just that little more enjoyable!

First time we ordered they got the order wrong but we over looked that. Second time we ordered wasn't bad but the portion sizes were half the size of tubs. And third time has been the worse experience I've ever had with a takeaway. When I had to call up about the food on the menu I was met with a very rude woman who lacked customer service skills and patience. I was asking about the items on the "supposed" vegan menu as I could see there was dish that has cheese in so please vegans beware (when I pulled this up with the boss, which took me 2 days to get in contact with, he tried to argue with me that it was fine and that some vegans don't mind that! What a joke, he clearly has no idea what veganism stands for or would not be saying it's okay for animal products to be on that menu). When I got my meal, I tasted the Daal Puri and I swear I could taste dairy. Even the chef had asked if I was dairy intolerant when I was asking about the Daal Puri but was assured in the end it was fine by the rude woman who tried fobbing me saying the chef had been asking if I was allergic to my plant milks... Didn't even make sense... The food was also cold when it arrived, and wasn't even pulled out of a cooler bag or anything so no wonder they don't stay hot... Boss was so so rude to me and had no time for me or my complaints. Told me he'd basically put down not to deliver to my address again acting like I was the one in the wrong... Absolutely disgraceful. I will be taking up the issues further as what they are doing on their menu is dangerous. Please be aware when ordering from here.
