Curry Cottage at Lovers Leap in Derbyshire Dales

We were staying at YHA Eyam which is a couple of miles away, and they delivered dinner for 25… a massive order. It was absolutely fantastic. Great selection of chicken, lamb and veggie dishes were all top notch. Great value too. Thanks to all at Curry Cottage.

The food itself was really nice and we sat in the cave which was great. Only downside was that vegetarian got served wrong dish which had paneer but with chicken. They only realised after biting into what turned out to be chicken. The waiter was very apologetic, took it away and brought out the correct dish. The person lost everything else on their plate along with the meal swap (all rice, onion bhaji etc). Feel in that situation they should have offered some more rice or to at least knock something off the bill, just that main free of charge. Would maybe go back but it did leave us feeling a little cheated.

We were staying in the area for a few days and pleased to find this lovely Indian open on a Sunday evening. We hadn't booked but that was no problem and we received a nice welcome. The waiter was excellent, very attentive and looked after us all evening. To describe the service as fast would be an understatement, our food was ready in about 15 minutes and was cooked well and tasted good.

**TL;DR:** Horrendous experience from start to finish. A customer nearly fossilized waiting over an hour for takeaway, a vegetarian got served meat, and we endured a "5-minute" wait that turned into an eternity, only to be served a partially eaten meal from another table. If 0/5 were possible, this place would still be over-scored. Absolutely atrocious. We should have run for the hills when a customer practically started decomposing after waiting over an hour for his takeaway. Meanwhile, the table across from us looked like they were calculating compound interest on the 20 minutes they spent just to pay their bill. And let’s not forget the poor vegetarian behind us who was served a meat dish—because apparently, “vegetarian” is just a suggestion here. After the poor soul realised the horror, they received no apology but were told to go get out!, if they wanted a free meal that’s what they would get! When they just wanted that meal taken off the bill. Our own ordeal kicked off with a "5-minute" wait that stretched into an eternity, 30 minutes later (why we didn’t leave is beyond me now). We were probably just hoping they'd give us a medal for surviving the wait! We finally got a table where service moved at the speed of a sloth that’s just discovered Netflix. We never received the drinks we asked twice for , so never got a drop to drink. By the end of the meal, we were considering a new career as camel trainers! However the pièce de résistance was when they delivered my meal to the wrong table. The other diners, bless their clueless hearts, had already dug in before the staff had their “Aha!” moment and Instead of whipping up a fresh dish, they casually reclaimed the half-eaten plate popped the same spoon back in and plopped it in front of me as if I wouldn’t notice the missing 1/4! I bet they thought I’d appreciate the extra “flavour” of other people’s dining experience! We’re still kicking ourselves for not heeding the advice of the table next to us, who saw the disaster coming and bailed like they were on a sinking ship—meanwhile, we were left to enjoy the Titanic of dining experiences! If I could give this place a 0/5, I would. Honestly, even that would be an overstatement—like calling a train wreck a minor inconvenience.

Lovely tasty food, at very reasonable prices, with such polite service from the waiters. Great location and surroundings and lovely decor inside the cottage. We will certainly be back when in the area.

Fabulous food and service at reasonable prices. We stumbled across this place after walking in the peaks. Parking is limited. They advised via telephone booking that they do not sell alcohol so we stopped at supermarket and picked up a couple of cold beers which they opened and provided glasses for. I found all the food to be tasty and freshly prepared with several dishes not usually seen in my local restaurants ( I live in Berkshire). Perfect end to a perfect day.

Been wanting to visit for some time but never got round to it. We went with another couple and both the food and service were amazing. We went to a 2 star Michelin Indian restaurant in London earlier this year and the meal and experience at curry cottage was equal to it. Can’t wait to go back. Superb

We been to this restaurant twice now this week 23-25.06.24 and both nights were outstanding,we ordered popadoms and a pickle tray, and two vegetable curries, and a chapati, and tonight we ordered mixed starter for two which was by far the best one we have ever had for the quality of the meat and the onion bhaji, and then for the main we ordered a Kofta Balti and vegetable Pathia and a cheese and onion Nan and 3 drinks,we found the staff very attentive and friendly well done to the chef and staff 10 out of 10

Delicious food, very friendly and welcoming staff, great venue. We discover this restaurant by pure coincidence and it was a real highlight our trip.

This is a lovely restaurant, the ambience is lovely, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious, I had the Tandoori mixed grill, the meat was so tender and succulent, with a lovely fresh salad. My husband had the dopiaza and our friend had the Lamb special, which was melt in your mouth delicious. The service was excellent and we will be returning again soon.

We have been having take aways from here regularly for over 12 years, tonight we ordered early as I was going to work, was told it would be 45 minutes , a hour and 15 mins later no sign, I rang as was told it was out for delivery , 20 minutes later no food , rang again it’s out for delivery , after 10 minutes I rang back and told them to cancel it , been cooked over an hour and would be cold! I know they are busy but we ordered early for a reason. And got false promises lost a very good customer, beans on toast it is then !!

The food here is as good as any Indian food we have tasted. The staff were attentive & knowledgeable, recommending which accompaniments were the most suitable for the dishes we had chosen. I chose the lamb Handi, which is a traditional Indian dish, and it was excellent. We were served by Adam, who made our evening with his sharp, whitty manner! We will definitely return when we are next in the area.

Well what can I say? Been coming here now for 6 years and this place never fails! From the very warm welcome to the service and the food is out of this world !! There is no other little curry house like it , we travel from Mosborough in Sheffield and is worth every mile . See you again guys soon and thank you !!!

Went for a midweek dinner at this cosy and welcoming Indian and the food was absolutely delicious. I could tell the curry was fresh, and the lightest, fluffy naans I've ever had. The waitor was extremely attentive and even made us a jug of lassi, a traditional Indian drink. Lovely!

Just had dinner at Curry’s cottage at lover leap. Very cute little Indian restaurant. Atmosphere: very nice and romantic but people like me with eye sight issues might struggle due to dim lights (depends where you sit) Service: was nice and quick. Though server was not very social. He wasn’t rude but he didn’t smiled either. Not even once. Food: taste was amazing. Spot on. Portions: mains are more than enough for 1 person but portions are out of proportion. Had to order extra naan and portion of rice to finish mains (didn’t wanted to have a take away) so now I’m stuffed. Price: we ordered mix grill as starter, saag paneer (Spinach with cheese cubes) and Dali Gosht (lentils with lamb), 2 naan and 2 portion or pulao rice and paid £41.95. Overall experience was very nice and I will come back if I will visit stoney Middleton again.

I was passed to 4 different people whilst ordering over the phone. I was told by 3 of them that a butter paneer couldn’t be ordered, despite paneer and butter chicken both being on the menu. To then be told by the 4th person that it could be made. Upon collection, we were told that the card machine wasn’t working - no mention of this on the phone when I ordered the curry. Asked them where the nearest cash machine was and they didn’t know?? After finally collecting, the food was bland and flavourless. Far too much sauce to filling ratio. Cold naan breads with little filling. I don’t understand the previous reviews, the place is hugely overrated. FYI, we ended up getting cash back at the BP garage up the road.

Ate here last night with the wife as we were doing a planned activity in the area. Booked a table the night before and the guy on the phone was friendly. Upon arrival we didn’t have to wait long (2 mins) before being taken to our table. Decor was nice; it’s quite a small and intimate place. Food was of a good standard and although not cheap, it wasn’t the most expensive place we have eaten. About £14 for a curry dish (before rice etc.) Service was attentive; we needed to leave before 7:30 so as to get to where we were going and staff were quick with getting the bill etc. We would eat here again if in the area.

We had a wonderful takeaway, great choice on the menu and our food was ready in 20 mins. We weren’t feeling that adventurous so didn’t venture out of our normal chicken tikka / korma but it was one of the best we have tasted and we have tried a few! Definitely will be back when we are next in the area and look forward to trying lots more off the menu.

We have wanted to eat here for some time as we pass it a lot. We were not disappointed… food was amazing and made using very fresh ingredients, Stoney Mids starter was perfect. Very friendly staff which made the evening even better. We booked to come again even before our main course arrived. Yum!

We had read about this restaurant so decided to give it a try. Visited on a Thursday evening and very busy. Unusual location with interesting story behind it. Anyway great menu and we chose the onion bhajis and veg pakoras to start followed by chicken bhuna and veg balti. The bharjis were the tastiest I've eaten and I've had a few!! The curries were delicious and plentiful. My friends was a bit too spicy for her so they provided a korma sauce to cool it down a bit. We chatted to the staff who were very friendly.
