We love the Shalimar that much. We took our friends over Christmas, it took 1 hour 25 to get there, service, food absolutely FAB U LOUS.

Faultless visit and meal, from start to finish. The friendliest, most helpful staff, delicious food, wonderful atmosphere and immaculately presented restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyable evening, enjoying the tastiest dishes. Thank you Shalimar! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The food was absolutely amazing, the staff are so friendly, nothing is too much trouble, atmosphere is really comfortable, all the family love to visit the Salimar. It's a wonderful place.

My boyfriend and I visited Shalimar Restaurant yesterday after our trip to Chatsworth House, and we had a wonderful experience. The food, including the desserts, was delicious, and the service was excellent. The staff were warm and friendly, making us feel very welcome. As a bonus, we received a £10 voucher for a future visit, which was a lovely surprise. There was also plenty of parking available, making it very convenient.

Came to the Shalimar for a birthday meal with the family, unbelievable service from start to finish and made the birthday very special with many surprises. Outside of the service, the food was amazing and would highly recommend. One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve visited (and have visited many!) Very good value for money and would return many times over.

Outstanding from the outset! Nicely lit from the approach and into the car park. We found a close parking space luckily. We were greeted with a smile and verbal happy greeting. We were asked if we wanted to sit in the comfortable Reception Area and have a welcome drink, but this time we were hungry and ready to eat straightaway. We were shown to our wonderfully neat and clean table for 5. We were left a perfect amount of time to choose our dishes, and drinks. And each dish, for all of us, was absolutely delicious. Full of flavour, perfect textures, perfectly cooked. I personally had Salmon Tikka with a Razella(not sure of the correct spelling!) sauce, vegetable rice and a cheese, garlic, onion and coriander Naan. All 5 star outstanding. All after Poppadoms and Pickles, and a Meat Platter to share between our table of 5. The Staff were all so very attentive, and nothing was too much trouble. All in all a 5 star experience was had by us all. Well done to Ali the owner of The Shalimar. And special compliments to Chef Khan.

Having been weaned on Indian food and being an indian myself also having been an owner of a restaurant that was a terrible experience food wise, well below average, with respect they catered for the English palate, As for the pricing it was a total rip-offI have never paid£4 for a chapatiThere will be no recommendations from me, I will never eat there again

Service is 2nd to none! The staff are very attentive and cannot do enough for you. The food was nice, but not to our taste. A bit bland. If I'd have known , I would have gone for a Spicer curry.

We went for my Dad’s birthday and as usual the staff were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for us, the food was fantastic and they even brought a cake out for my dad which was lovely. Highly recommend the Shalimar 5* service

One of the best Indian food I’ve ever eaten would definitely come back or recommend family members and friends to come eat, the staff where friendly, welcoming and amazing people, the service was spot on and excellent.

We have regularly been visiting the Shalimar for at least 10 years, until 2019 weekly. We moved to Scotland then which meant annual visits. The staff have become very good friends. The standard of service has been consistently excellent along with the quality of food. We now judge other restaurants against this standard, and they fall woefully short

Can’t say I’m super impressed. Ordered a takeout awhile back, and didn’t enjoy the dish, maybe I just picked the wrong thing, it tasted very acidic. Gave them another try recently and was very specific about getting a vegan dish and was quoted back it would be dairy free/vegan, only to find paneer in it. The dish did taste delicious however, but no good to me once I found the cheese in it

Attended on a Saturday night for the first time with family. The staff were friendly, although some of the service was abrupt and over familiar. The menu had plenty of choice for all, we ordered meat platters to share and the usual curries, rice and bread. At the time of ordering we were asked if we wanted poppadoms with pickles, to which we declined and informed that the platters would take 20 mins, which we were fine with. After a few minutes another member of staff came over and asked if we wanted poppadoms and pickles, which we refused again, we were reminded the platters would be a while and were we sure!? Our party then felt awkward so just said yes to the poppadoms and pickles (we felt this was a bit of an upsell) to our surprise the platters arrived 5 mins later while still eating said poppadoms. The meat platters were ok, although lukewarm and when the curries arrived, we were further disappointed, as they had the same colour and tasted bland. We have all eaten at different Indian restaurants and felt that the food was not up to standard of others, and definitely not value for money. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

We went to The Shalimar for dinner. The welcome was warm, and the restaurant is well furnished and beautifully lit. The Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale playlist was definitely apt. The food was really good. The spice factory was there. Service was prompt. Thank you very much!

Cant fault it the stars speak for themselves

We enjoyed and absolutely wonderful evening at The Shalimar last Thursday evening. The restaurant was not busy and it was nice and quiet. While it was dark outside it was lit sufficiently inside for us to be able to read our menus (something which many restaurants fail to do). We ordered poppadoms and pickle tray, mixed vegetable platter, chicken korma, tandoori mixed grill, lemon and cashew rice, a cheese naan and a peshwari naan. The portions were perfect and we had plenty to eat. All the food was very tasty and nothing was too spicy. The pickle tray and mixed vegetable platter came with a decent sizes sauce boat of Raiti, which again, was very tasty. Everything was as good as we have ever had and will definitely be returning. In particular both naans were excellent, with the cheese one having a visible layer of cheese all the way through. Both the naans were very moist and unlike many peshwari naans, nothing fell out of it while I was trying to eat it. The 3 staff that served us were all very pleasant and welcoming and they were always keeping an eye out in case we needed anything, so we did not have to wait long at all when we needed somebody. As I said at the outset, we had a wonderful evening as everything was perfect: atmosphere, staff, food quality, flavour, portion sizes and price. We look forward to our next visit.

Came here from the USA to visit family members who strongly recommended Shalimar. The service is top notch. The food is exceptional - we had papadam, dips, rice, garlic naan, chicken tikka, chicken korma, chicken bhuna, lamb roghan gosh, chicken samosa, onion bhagie. There perhaps aren’t enough words in the dictionary to describe how awesome a dining experience this was for my family which includes 2 young children. They have high table, and assisted with keeping the little one entertained while the delights I mentioned previously were prepared to perfection. The parking lot is huge, and the tunes at the restaurant were also delightful- great atmosphere. To Ali, Akmed, and the entire staff, please keep up the awesome job.

Friendly staff, good service, nice atmosphere. However, some aspects of food not great. Poppadoms soft and clearly not recently made, serving dishes cold so food cooled quickly.

The experience couldn't have been any better from start to finish. Welcoming environment, attentive staff, food.....the best Indian food outside of India! The meat was cooked to absolute perfection. It just melted and was so full of flavour. Never had naan like theirs....melty gooey cheesy. Honestly, just incredible! I even asked for the remainder of my food to be bagged up to take home. I couldn't finish it but wasn't prepared to waste it. It was my partners birthday, we mentioned it and at the end of the evening a cake and candle appeared for him. The manager had asked the delivery driver to collect a cake for him. We had a wonderful evening, not just a meal. The whole experience was exceptional.

I was taken here for my birthday. The restaurant is nicely layed out with plenty seating available. The staff are friendly and the service if first class. The food is very nice, but some things were not great, onion bhajis were flat and doughy in the middle, egg rice didn't taste great and the chicken pakoras were dry. I'd definitely go back as I'm sure the above isn't a regular thing.

As always, an excellent meal from a great selection on the menu. Cobra beer as accompaniment. Would recommend if you fancy an Indian Meal in the Matlock area.

We came to The Shalimar whilst on holiday in the area and we will 100% be returning the next time we are back. First of the all the staff were very welcoming from the second we walked in, we had our 8 month old daughter with us and they were so friendly towards her. Secondly, the food.. wow!! Has to be the nicest curry I’ve ever had, the waiter recommended it to me and I took the chance and went with it, so glad I did! Everything we ordered was so tasty and the portions were very generous. I give The Shalimar 10/10, easy!!

Our second visit. Both times the food has been delicious and the service has been excellent. A thoroughly good experience.

We have been eating here for the last 7 to 8 years and have never been disappointed excellent food as well as amazing staff and service. If you are in the area please call in for a curry as like us will not be disappointed. It is very friendly to all ages. Very clean and good parking facilities. If I had to rate this out of 10 it would be over and above.

We've been here many times over the years. The service is exceptional and the team friendly attentative and welcoming. The food is amazing and they have a wide range of dishes - would suggest you just ask for a recommendation. You'll get a great meal and a little different. Price is reasonable but it can be busy but then that's the downside of being one of the UK's top rated Indian restaurants I guess.

We were in peak district for a holiday and this came up as a popular restaurant so we called up and booked easily. Everyone was so friendly, the waiters all took time to chat to us and adjusted the menu for our Asian taste buds! The food was halal, very tasty, well presented and plentiful. They very kindly rustled up a desi tea complimentary at the end. We enjoyed our time here and very much recommend it for families, couples and special occasions as seemed to be the customers here. Lovely people, lovely clean place. Food a shame: Sheesh kebab bland. Tikka masala very bland. Onion bhaji had a boring, bland taste and no crisp (horrible oil taste to it). Will go back and change to 5 star if a different curry better/not bland. Others in our party said theirs was bland too.

Every time we come back to the UK to visit family, the Shalimar is an absolute must on our agenda. The service is amazing, the team are so friendly (especially with our children), welcoming and knowledgeable. The food is outstanding (must try is the Lamb Handi), portions are generous and the ambiance is very comfortable. Absolutely love the place! Our favourite Indian restaurant.

A really calm and peaceful restaurant with pretty decor and gorgeous food. The best part was the mains, especially the lamb curry that we had and the chicken jalfrezi. Decent portion sizes and great service. The only disadvantage would be the lack of non alcoholic drink options (mock tails would be lovely) and also for the music to be a bit quieter. I would certainly come here again.

Pretty average curry house which is a little more expensive than it should be. Food was all good, naan was a bit burnt but the service was cordial and polite.

We had a splendid experience start to finish! Went in for lunch on Father’s Day and were lucky to get a table! The food was excellent, service exceptional and it was really a comfortable space. I really wished we’d had to wait so I could sit in the gorgeous couches in the waiting area!!

We aren’t locals so it’s always a bit of a worry finding decent restaurants. We certainly found one here. The staff were very pleasant and having a business myself for 27 years to find that Shalimar is also a family run business that cares about their customers , very much shows . To me the customer care is more important than the food although I can also say the meals are delicious, I’m vegetarian and I had a choice of starters . Back again last Sunday for lunch. A warm welcome from Ali as usual, and since the restaurant was quiet, had a nice chat. I tried a different main course this time - Achari Mazah Special which was superb - Rich flavour, not too spicy, and lamb tender, tasty & plentiful! My wife enjoyed one of her favourites - Garlic Chili chicken with a peshwari naan full of coconut. Another memorable meal! We first visited The Shalimar on Boxing Day 2021 to give my wife a break after a busy Christmas. We were greeted with a friendly welcome, a considerate allocation of table next to a warm radiator. (It was chilly & damp outside) Our hosts provided just the right balance of attentive service - and good sense of humour! All our favourite dishes were on the menu-we chose fish pakora to start, then chicken karahi and garlic chilli lamb, followed by kulfi icecream. Everything excellent and to our taste!

I hate to do this, because the staff were some of the friendliest and nicest I’ve ever encountered, but a sadly this was by far the worst Indian food I’ve ever had. Ever! Not exaggerating or trying to be unkind. In fact it’s not really Indian food. It’s some weird bland facsimile of Indian food. We had two dishes, the Tikka Massala and the Korma and they tasted identical, differing only I colour, and neither of them tasted like they were supposed to. If you love Indian food, don’t eat here.

These people just sell happiness. They're welcoming, friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, from the basics - onion bahjees, mango lassi, various forms of naan bread - to the complex. I couldn't imagine how to improve the experience. One of their dishes was as good as anything I ever tasted. When we had cleared the plates the manager commented "you did a brilliant job on that!" Not as brilliant as his own job.

Visited with my uncle to spend the day with him and decided to visit for something to eat. To say the least, incredibly grateful we did. Food was fantastic, 11/10. Highly recommend the chicken korma, peshwari naan and rice but there is a wide variety of other food, which I assume are just as amazing. We were offered poppadoms before the main food, which were lovely too. Dessert was fabulous as well, I recommend the chocolate ice cream with hazelnut The (or at least who I assume) manager was incredibly lovely, very hospitable, polite, nice to speak to and all in all very friendly. Upon finding it was recently my birthday, I was given a card and a £10, which I appreciate hugely and think is an incredible touch. Will definitely be coming back, could not recommend more!!
