Cult espresso in Edinburgh, City of

The atmosphere was perfect and I had a wonderful date here! :) I had a pain au chocolate which was very delicious!

Go to Origin or beatnik. Unless you don't mind paying 4.3 euros for a drink? The coffee isn't even that out of the box, with very okay beans, and way more okay baristas -- I make better coffee then them :'). Also, who charges 0.50 for adding ice? Stop looting people, and then the audacity to ask for tips. How desperate you gotta be. There are plenty of shops in the neighbourhood with better beans and better skill of making coffee with cheaper prices (at least a pound cheaper).

I feel bad writing this because the atmosphere is incredible and the staff seem nice but the ice drinks here are such a sorry attempt at coffee. It might be that cold coffee is not this place's forte but I ordered an iced chai latte and it certainly ranks among the worst, most ill-conceived drinks i've had the displeasure of choking down lest my £4.30 feel like a complete waste. Small too, though in this case, that might've been a good thing. It was really bad :( I'd recommend specialising and honing one skill as opposed to stumbling through numerous guys. also, why would i pay £0.50 for ice. ICE?? oat milk is .30 but ice is £0.50? water is [by law] free but ice is £0.50?? i take no issue with spending money if i get my money's worth, but how do you justify charging £0.50 to dilute my sub-par drink with frozen water? absolutely egregious.

Card only- Dimly lit and very noisy , staff member was rude and didn't make me feel welcome , although the product may be good the service was not.

Cozy coffee spot with fantastic decor, and arguably the best coffee in Edinburgh (with so many different blends to choose from as well). The food is delicious and the staff is always friendly. I make it a point to go here every time I visit, and I've even had their beans shipped home to try and recreate the experience in between visits.

Really nice coffee stop off. Staff are great, very friendly and will bring your coffee / order over once it’s ready. Table setup is good given the limited space they have. I thought the food choices could have been a bit more, but not that big a deal, I was here for the coffee.

I really enjoyed the coffee. The poached eggs came out with a hard yolk and runny whites. When I asked about this, staff informed me that the eggs were sous vide before being poached. While the yolk was nice to enjoy the whites were terrible and mushy. There was nothing on the menu to indicate that the eggs were sous vide, the menu states that they are poached. This method of cooking completely changes the egg and needs to be described in the menu as it’s misleading. When I raised that the egg whites appeared to be under cooked, I got questioned whether I knew what sous vide was. They offered to cook the eggs longer, which made no difference when they were brought out. I appreciated that they were remade and staff tried to resolve the issue. I believe that the method of cooking should be added to the menu or explained to customer before ordering.

This is a good place to try high quality filter coffee, the staff is quite friendly, and overall the interior is cosy. My experience, however, wasn’t that great for a few reasons. 1. The seats in the shop aren’t much comfy if one wants to lead back and just read a book with a cup of coffee. There are just two soft chairs but they are situated literally at the entrance with people in/out all the time. 2. There is one more issue to add to the previous point. The door closer doesn’t work properly, it leaves a big gap until you push it further. Sadly, even that doesn’t help to get rid of the gap, the door just isn’t sealed properly, which isn’t that nice to have in colder seasons. 3. The choice of music is something that can be rather personal, but I don’t really understand having partying like music in a cosy coffee shop, such as Livin' La Vida Loca playing loudly. But maybe that aligns with the atmosphere Cult is trying to create… These are some things I found bothersome despite the coffee and place being good overall. But I hope it can all be improved in the future :) UPD: It’s funny that this has been almost a month, the winter progressed further, the temperatures fell lower, but the door gap remains. Although the staff is reportedly aware of the issue.

The coffee is incredible and it’s a cute little place but the staff were quite rude and it’s massively overpriced. £3.70 for a latte is fine but the portion size was TINY making it bad value for money.

Columbian batch brew was one of the most delicious coffees I've had this year, lovely spot!

Coffee is different from any place I’ve had in Edinburgh so far, don’t know if that’s good or bad, just different which I guess is good. Limited pastry selection from the other coffee shops I’ve been so far and no syrups for those caramel lovers like my wife. Atmosphere was good though.

Cute spot but maybe not great for food. I ordered the miso bean toast and it was so salty that it burned my throat and was inedible so I had to leave it there.

They had a fruity coffee paired with minor figures oatmilk –The sour fruitiness from this combo is not what an oatmilk flatty drinker is after. In my opinion a good oat milk flatty pairs a caramelly, chocolatey coffee with a nutty oat milk like Oatley or Califia farms. They do however have a very impressive Lego starwars AT ST ucs set on display valued at £500 resale. Lovely spot all in all.

I had their filter coffee and it was one of the best filter coffees I’ve ever had in Britain (well London and Edinburgh). Very cozy place and friendly service as well.

Been trying out various coffee places in edinburgh and this is one to skip. Coffee was ok but not amazing, and cake tasted like raw dough. When I flagged this I was told they don't make it and that was it. Why not offer something else or money back? Music very loud. Wasted 7 pounds and left....

Absolutely the best oat latte I’ve ever had and ive literally tried all the oat lattes in east London. It’s the perfect combination of richness and aroma of coffee that most of the time you can’t even get one not to mention both at the same time. We also asked for a different blend of espresso for the other oat latter and it offers more punch and flavor. The house blend was perfect for me but my friend preferred the special blend. Take your pick, you won’t be disappointed.

They recommended a filter coffee, it was really excellent. If you know coffee you'll appreciate this place. The food was great, but for the price I'd have liked another slice of toast with my eggs. One for the Star wars and Coffee fans

Great place for fab coffee and food, loads of space, and tables to share. My son loved the Lego Star Wars displayed on the shelves! Just one thing I'd like to suggest; could you please degrease your tables? Everything we put on stuck. XD

Absolutely delicious coffee, I already had a great opinion of this place but as I was enjoying my iced latte I managed to dump the whole thing on my ipad by accident 🥲 The team was AMAZING they helped me clean everything and even made me a whole new drink, everyone was so nice ! + they have a great wifi, perfect to study

There is no competition. This place does the best coffee in Edinburgh. I literally can't even describe the flavour of the coffee here. Lots to unpack and too much to write In this review. Just need to try for yourself. It's a little on the expensive end but undoubtedly worth it. I was sceptical about a 7 quid cup of coffee but it was one of the most flavourful and interesting things I've ever drank. Great place to hang out, study, have a business meeting. These guys know what they are doing. Still got a few coffees to try and I'm looking forward to it.

Really cool vibe, really good coffee, really great place. We both had lattes which were creamy, rich and chocolatey and had exquisite latte art that lasted the entire drink.

A really nice cafe with delicious food and drinks ! During our stay in Edimburgh we went several time to start our day with a nice breakfast.

Perfect coffee & music & service

My go to for the last month. Been here like 10+ times 🫠😂 I really like the coffee they have here. Staff is quite nice. WiFi works well. They have the crownie from 101 bakery which is my favourite. The poached eggs toast is REALLY good. Also good price; and it comes with a hot sauce which I am becoming a fan of. Used to be liquid but I love that they changed it for a more creamy sauce. Tried the big cheese. Not very fan of it being like a toasty. The breakfast platter is also very good. Honestly the fact that the butter is not cold and hard, and that they put some salt on it is such a big difference. I do think the difference is in the details.

Brilliant coffee in here, currently my favourite in Edinburgh.

Living on other side of the city I've wanted to visit this subterranean den for a while. The cafe was busy as seems to be the theme here with other reviews. Espresso was excellent 👌 Fine baristas worked fast to clear the queues and the team seemed under pressure but this did not detract from the service or quality of drinks which were well worth the trip. Recommend to anyone seeking quality caffeine

Probably my favourite café in Edinburgh. I was lucky enough to be shown the place by a friend and now I go back whenever I feel like starting the day nicely. Great staff, brilliant coffee and I love their salmon toast.

Average coffee, average male baristas, nice place to work in

Had to working in Edinburgh one Saturday morning, and was in need of my daily coffee fix. I had eaten in the cafe next door a few weeks previous, and at the time the coffee shop next door had drawn my attention, but was not open at the time, so thought I would head along. For a Saturday morning at the start of the Fringe Festival, it was understandably VERY busy, but was still able to get served in no time. Sandwiches on display looked excellent, so grabbed a latte and one of their Cheese & Ham Sandwiches to go. Good prices and very tasty. If in the area again I will be sure to visit.

Not the very top, but one of the best speciality coffee places in town (with an appealing-looking range of food which I haven't tried). Prices are high but in line. I find the interior a little dark and oppressive. Personnel is friendly.

Unfortunately, another cafe with excellent coffee but zero sense of community or friendliness beyond the kind designed to encourage expenditure.

This place is a fair walk from the main attractions in Edinburgh but well worth the effort. I had their Peanut and Jam Blondie and probably one of the nicest cakes I have ever had. A must for coffee connoisseurs.

With great food and delicious coffee, this cafe truly is one of my favourite in Edinburgh. The food is flavourful and tasty - I recommend the avocado toast. The coffee is great. Different beans to choose for your pour over with a wonderful selection. I had a geisha and it was spectacular. The ambiance of the cafe is also great. With a rustic interior and funky decor like the Lego Star Wars; they create a cafe that you want to be in. The music is also great. Ah, I love the place.

Like the coffee and the location is convenient but the service is so. so. slow. It's tough to recommend this spot over others when there are so many good places nearby that don't have the service problem.

All I can say is - Tea was absolutely wonderful and the food looked amazing.

Delightful. It is rare to find a café that takes care of producers beyond "single source" and Cult certainly does. There is a genuine feel to the place generally, seen in the service, the mugs and of course the coffee. The decaf was a rich yet complex Brazilian blend which I could drink all day. The best avocado toast we've perhaps ever had, and the smoked salmon is literally the best I've had anywhere in the world. Wild caught locally and a must try dish. Enjoyed the orange pistachio rooibos tea also, and the classy presentation. Good people, great coffee and tasty food.
