Cuckoo in Bury

Nice space, but not a friendly place. With a group of friends, 5 in total, we visited Cuckoo on Easter Sunday for drinks after a lovely lunch elsewhere. We noticed immediately that the crowd present was a quite young one, but we never thought that we could be treated any different from the rest. This because we possibly spent more in about 30 mins than some larger (younger) groups might have done all day, sitting there & purchasing a drink only, maybe 2. Oh well, luckily Prestwich is a lovely town with so many more bars/pubs to choose from, and all friendlier than Cuckoo. Been another time as everyone deserves a 2nd chance, no? NO! Same bad vibe, small place, overcrowded, because the only thing they have in mind is to make as much money as they can: and prices are higher than Manchester Centre. NEVER MORE!

Usually the first person to recommend cuckoo for their pizza but was disappointed with the comedy night through no fault of the comedians. The comedians were pretty good! Comedy night started at 7.30pm. As it’s held at cuckoo we had planned to eat here for the pizza they serve with it saying they’re open until 10.30pm online. Comedy night at a pizza place, it was a planned date. However after the first segment finished at 8.30pm we went down to ask about ordering a pizza for the event upstairs and we were informed the kitchen is closed. We weren’t the first people to ask about food and left disappointed that for a 3 hour event they hadn’t thought to cater for anyone at the comedy night. My guess is they missed out on a lot of business and had quite a few people left hungry and disappointed. We were told that next time we should come earlier if we want food as they only cater for the event space if it’s a party. As we hadn’t eaten since lunchtime around 1pm we were starving and had to leave the event to go home and feed ourselves and miss the next two hours of the event. Also definitely worth trying to set up the event before people arrive rather than having everyone move their seats around after they have all settled in and sat down. As well as the sound system being fixed after the first couple of performers mentioned an issue with the mic. Would have been the perfect opportunity for cuckoo to provide great pizza to people who haven’t been before and seems like they just didn’t think about doing so and really missed an opportunity. I wouldn’t come to another comedy night here again unfortunately.

We used the function room on Saturday 4th January for a birthday celebration. The room was perfect for us, the food was excellent and the staff were brilliant. I would recommend Cuckoo to anyone who is looking for somewhere to have a small to medium sized party.

I really like Cuckoo. It specialises in pizza, but it's also good for bar/café/breakfast/lunch. Sometimes it has performers or a DJ. It has a serving window on the street and an event space upstairs for parties etc.

best pizza in p-town (also manchester if you like mushrooms).

Had the 2 person sharing board the portions were very poor 5 small crackers and little cheese etc very disappointing.

Great venue upstairs. Attended a 40th and the atmosphere was great. Good selection of drinks and the Pizza it was lush too. Would recommend if you are linking for a venue to hire, or maybe pop downstairs to try out their food and drinks. Nice ans chilled atmosphere.

Perfect cocktails every time and good table service

Lovely ambience of an evening with a warm, friendly atmosphere and a good selection of beers and beverages to enjoy. Tasty food too which makes Cuckoo one of our favourite watering holes in Prestwich and one I'd recommend paying a visit.

Great venue we visited for my cousins party.

Popped in for lunch, we had amazing pizza and a drink each. Great service and food was quickly ready and piping hot!

This bar only does table table service for drinks & they don't know how to do it. It takes about 20 minutes to actually get served, then another 20 minutes to have them brought over by a miserable member of staff who just put them down on our table without even acknowledging us.

An absolute must to visit and experience!

Feb 2023: Pablo Honey pizza by far the best. Quick stop for lunch at one of our fav's! Dec 2022: .....still as good as last time. The Festive Pizza, shame it's not served by Santa himself though 🎅 Dec 2021: Festive Pizza is back! Absolutely awesome! May 2022: Review Update: Still one of the best places in Prestwich for drinks, atmosphere and pizza. Everyone here is super friendly and welcoming and we love it. Early morning fresh coffee, cake, or a pastry from The Hatch to start a day, especially on a sunny morning! A Cuckoo breakfast, or stone-baked Pizza for lunch is well recommended. Satriale or Pepe Bradock is our favourite. Dog friendly inside and out. The outside seating area is open, but has a brilliant canopy for when the rain starts and infra-red heaters for when it gets chilly. 'The Library' downstairs is a great place to relax and chill with friends, read a book or play a few games. On a lovely sunny day the outside back transforms into a Mediterranean utopia. Alfresco pizza and cocktails here and you could literally be anywhere. We're really looking forward to the expansion and can't wait to see what happens next! Amazing and delicious food for more than fair prices. The staff is lovely, the decor is great look out for the walls of cassettes! The food was really good and the quality was fresh. Everything was clean. The only small detail is that it is a small place, so upstairs can be a bit crowded and not much privacy, but it has a garden and a downstairs. There is an efficient paying system as well! I recommend their pizzas and homebaked desserts. Will be coming again thanks!

We hired the event space upstairs for a party and had a lovely evening. The pizzas were excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful, we hired our own DJ and danced the night away. Great place, highly recommend.

A lovely bar to meet up with friends and have coffee and a chat. Service brilliant and so welcoming, especially to our two dogs. They loved every minute of it. Thank you Cuckoo, we'll be back xx 😁🙂

Came at 2pm on a bank holiday Monday so completely understand they were busy. They told us it was 45 min wait for food which we thought was fine. Ordered drinks - they took 25 mins to arrive (2 cokes, a beer, 1 glass of wine) one of the cokes was forgotten. Then took ten further minutes to get the second coke. / Pizzas arrived 1 hour and 15 mins later. Ordered second round of drinks which took a further 30 mins to arrive. They forgot another drink had to wait ten further minutes. I get the food taking a while (maybe not 1 hour 15 mins for four pizzas....) but to take 25 mins for a drink seems outrageous! Staff seemed all over the place. Service really was bad. Much better places on Prestwich so won't be returning unfortunately.

Lovely little beer garden is a great sun trap if the sun ever comes out, pizza and cocktails are delicious!

Whether I pop in for a coffee at the end of an arduous dog walk or nightcap at the end of an endless round of carousing, i know there will be a warm welcome from the cuckoo crew. The pizza is different to the other prestwich offerings and still great value. The new event space is a welcome addition to one off and regular entertainment.

Been in a few times and can honestly say you can’t fault the place. The food, the service and the drinks are outstanding. If you’re looking for a brunch place, an evening dinner place or even just a light snack, this is the place to go in Prestwich. The menu is limited to grazing boards and pizzas however the selection is wide with so many options of pizzas. We opted for a hot honey pizza and a meat pizza (cannot for the life of me remember the name). We also got a side of wedges which were so delicious. Definitely recommend!

Amazing place that is like a TARDIS, the outside space outside is brilliant with great table service. Can't wait to go back.

I don't live in Manchester anymore but on a recent visit to Prestwich made a point of visiting Cuckoo as I have always enjoyed the drinks , ambience and food. I am glad to report that Cuckoo is still very much worth a visit. It serves the best coffee and Pizza in Prestwich and the reason Cuckoo survives while other places close is simple.. The food and pizzas are great and reasonably priced, The drinks and coffee are good,the staff are always friendly and welcoming and the music is good. Simple really! I will return again on my next visit to Prestwich.

Cute little place with a wonderful selection of drinks. We didn't eat here because we only stopped for a drink, but we will be back to try out the food when we are next in the area.

Such a disappointing visit today (28/12/2023) We turned up in the afternoon and got a table near the window. It wasn't very busy at all. We were told it was table service only and were given menus. We decided what we wanted and waited, and waited, and waited....... The waitress was totally oblivious and never acknowledged us even though the till was right next to our table. Eventually, we got fed up and walked out. I don't even think the waitress noticed us leaving and was completely unaware of who was in the place. Such a shame as we'd planned to have cocktails and order food. Cuckoo, you lost a customer today and we won't bother to come again either

Couldn't take order for pizza as shift changed from breakfast menu to afternoon/lunch. Gave up and ordered a tasteless doughnut instead. Coffee good though

Had our work's Christmas do there, food was top notch, told the team downstairs as I was leaving, definitely will be coming here to a slice of two with friends

Avoid. Awful service by a waitress who couldn't be a*****. We were warned of a 30-45 min wait on pizzas...then nobody returned to take the order. So we had a drink then left. Pizzas coming from the oven looked poor. Cute snug little place otherwise!

We have had lovely meals and drinks here. Always so welcoming and helpful. They are also understanding and accommodating of food allergies. Dog friendly too!

Great venue and lovely place , however I’m not sure the music actually needs to be as loud as it is . People go out to talk and you can’t because it’s that loud , shame really as the place and staff Brilliant. And this is only my opinion puts me off going at night , in the day it’s fine

The food is fantastic, and as a regular it always is - however the service the last couple of times has been dreadful. They have a lot of staff sitting at the bar visibly scrolling through Instagram instead of serving drinks. Food took ages, over an hour and 15 mins. No apology or explanation. Bit of a shame as doubt I would go back.

I've been here a few times now and I've always been happy. Their pizzas are great - I particularly liked the Alonso pizza. The coffee is good too and staff are friendly.

Really enjoyed watching The Villanelles on Saturday afternoon. A really friendly bar with a funky relaxed vibe.

First of all staff were so friendly and welcoming - especially with our dogs too! One of the best pizzas we have ever had, so so good! 100% reccomend

Great place, lovely atmosphere, like the feel of the whole place, especially downstairs. Would make a great venue for a function. Food and drink for the most part was great, the scrambled egg on ciabatta was the only downside with the eggs to bread ratio not quite right (not much in the way of egg compared to the bread). I took a pic of mine which was the full breakfast and enjoyed it thoroughly.

What a find! Stopped here on way back from manchester, fantastic oh- so -different summer cocktail menu (all named after festivals) and delicious handmade plentiful pizza...busy quite noisy and lively but thats great! Will be back!

Fab little place. Stopped off here en route to Cumbria from Kent (via cycle) after needing a well earned drink. Lovely friendly staff and I was made to feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend to cyclists and non cyclists alike!

This place has a decent vibe but the service is ridiculously slow. Our table only ordered 3 pizzas but we were waiting almost an hour for these. No acknowledgement or apology from the staff which makes me wonder if this just is how they roll.

I am a bit late to the party I fear. This place was amazing. Had two pizzas and the humus as a starter. The most friendly staff you could ever ask for. Service was quick but with a warm smile. It’s actually a really large venue with an upstairs area perfect for getting some work done during the day and downstairs for late night drinks with friends. There is a real friendly and welcoming vibe to the place with an outdoor area too undercover and with heaters. Really recommend this place. They do brunch as well as pizza and we had a lovely time. Three children and adults.

Fabulous place with great music, friendly staff and a laidback feel to it. Out of all the bars etc in Prestwich this is our favourite by far.

Lovely place to have a cocktail and the pizza was really good. Got charged for drinks we didn’t have and only saw the bill after we’d paid which is why lost a star.

Even though the food was good it took OVER AN HOUR!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡(I could’ve done the weekly shop in this time or run 10k) for fries and a ciabatta to arrive (worth only £7). Drinks also took 20 mins to arrive.(A hot chocolate, lemonade and a coke) Brownie took 45 mins. Heard other staff telling visitors that wait was an hour, but they didn’t tell us this and we heard this 45 minutes in to our wait. This just isn’t acceptable. It usually is a lovely place. Great atmosphere and everything but over an hour for seven pounds worth of stuff should not be acceptable for a well respected local business. A waste of a good hour or so of my time. Overall I’m disappointed for what could’ve been a lovely visit, just took too long.
