Fantastic pub with great food, service from Chloe was excellent, dog and kid friendly too! Looking forward to going back already, highly recommend.

All good except food was a little slow but I don’t mind that if it is well cooked and tasty. It was pretty good but a tad expensive for pub food.

Lovely place to sit and take in the local surroundings. Worth a visit for lunch followed by a lovely walk along the seven sisters.

Amazing chilled atmosphere plenty of space around the tables so you don't feel closed in and can have a private conversation at your table, lots of stunning views across the valley. The service and quality of food is what you'd expect from a 5 star restaurant.

The Cuckmere Inn enjoys a truly stunning setting, with picturesque views that make it an ideal spot for a post-hike meal or drink. We appreciated that they were happy to accept muddy boots, a welcome touch given the number of walkers passing through. On arrival, we were seated quickly, and our first drinks order was taken and served efficiently, which set high expectations for the rest of our visit. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. The service was poor, with a moody and short-tempered waitress who didn’t seem to grasp even the basics of hospitality. This attitude wasn’t an isolated incident—it seemed to extend across the team. At one point, I went to the bar to chase a drink that hadn't arrived, only to be dismissed by the bartender, who told me the waitress would "get to it" in her own time. When the drinks finally arrived, we found them double-charged on the bill, adding further frustration. The food took an age to arrive, with staff blaming a backed-up kitchen due to everyone arriving at once. Given that we had booked in advance, it raises the question of whether a better system should prioritise bookings over walk-ins—something the wider hospitality industry might want to consider. That said, the food itself was excellent. We ordered the skewers, which were flavourful, well-cooked, and came with a good range of sides. It’s a shame the experience leading up to it didn’t match the quality of the food. Would we return? Probably not. On our next hike in the area, we’ve already agreed to bring a packed lunch rather than risk another frustrating visit. A real shame, given the fantastic location.

Great food, great service! Dylan was very helpful and accomodating to my allergies which is usually quite difficult to get from other places!

Everything was amazing from the moment we came in. Alice and Dylan were great, the food was lovely and we were very glad the menu included vegan options which were also lovely. The place is beautiful and very cozy, I can not praise it enough!

Went for a lovely meal today, got sat in a lovely section with a great view, was served by Toby, he was very attentive and welcoming, catered to my every needs, I had the beef roast which was a lovely size portion and cooked by Sophie, would definitely recommend, will be returning!

Took my other half for a meal. We were served by Thomas all evening, he was polite and ensured we got everything we needed. My steak was slightly undercooked but Thomas didn’t hesitate to send it back to the kitchen. Once it was cooked to my liking the food was lovely and nice atmosphere around the place. He recommended ketchup for the steak which I thought was odd but he was just being nice. Looking forward to coming back and I will ask for Thomas to serve us again!!

Discovered this gem place on a trekking journey from Seaford to Eastbourne and highly recommend it to anyone whether you’re walking in the area or passing it by car. A really great meal for 6 after our long dog walk by the beach. Sarah was a fantastic waitress for us, accommodating to every need including the roaring fire next to us! Food was top quality, I would really recommend a visit here but make sure to book a table if in the busy times.

We enjoyed a light lunch by the fire. Alex was excellent and looked after us well. The bar snack offer was excellent value for money and wine delicious. Views are beautiful and we will definitely be making a visit again soon.

We have been to the Cuckmere many times and every time it’s lovely. We have had Shannon as our server several times and she has always been incredibly kind, friendly and helpful. Anything we ask for is never a problem and if anything needs sorting she does it straight away. We have a little girl who can be a bit of a terror and we are never made to feel unwelcome or too much trouble. She also remembered us even though she must see so many people everyday, which was very sweet of her!

Good food, friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Somewhere we happily go on a regular basis, either for food, or just for drinks.

Absolutely brilliant meal. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with nothing but smiles and warmth. I had the Pork roast - it's a Sunday menu today. And when I say it was some of the best pork I've had.. I really mean it. The accoutrement was good, not incredible. Lovely staff including SJ and a lovely environment. The Perfect Sunday afternoon spot after a cold blustery walk.

Went Christmas eve for dinner with six of us. Steaks were not available, they'd been popular but my pork belly was delicious , staff really welcoming and Christmas decorations looked lovely. Ambience not quite there yet but definitely a massive improvement since my last visit. Thank you so much.

Nice clean place .food is OK but was Luke warm .Not impressed

Thank you to Shannon for all of your hard work today - it looked like you were single handedly looking after everyone in the restaurant today! Shannon was very attentive and checked in on us several times. Unfortunately the food was very slow to come out of the kitchen - we had to chase up desserts twice - which is no reflection on the front of house staff. The food itself was absolutely delicious, once it arrived.

My family and I came here today for our Christmas meal and we all really enjoyed it. The portions were generous, service was great and my son - who can sometimes be a picky eater - was really happy. Thank you!

Great service staff all very friendly, personable and on hand to help with any requests. We came for dinner and a quiz run by the fabulous Thomas sage who made a fantastic quiz master starting about making sure everything ran perfectly. Food was just right on all levels.

Came with our dog on Saturday, Alice and the other members of staff were 1st class! friendly , helpful and accommodating. We had chicken skewers and halloumi skewers which were nice. Open fire and Xmas decor. They even have a dog station with water and treats. Well done to you and your colleagues Alice

Ate here today after a long walk in the morning. Food was really tasty and fresh wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was! Also had a lovely coffee, place was decorated so lovely for Christmas, we even sat by the fire. Service from Shannon was great. Very impressed for first visit and will be recommending and definitely returning!

Another lovely meal at the Cuckmere Inn today. and there was live music for the first half of our visit, which was nice. Our meal was first rate again and Toby our server was attentive and very friendly. There was only two guys serving today and they did a sterling job and deserve mentioning in dispatches for their hard work.

1st time here and I have to say the food was fantastic. the chicken perfect. the pizza flavour was ridiculously good. I was actually surprised and can honestly say best pizza I've had. would recommend. next time I think all the bar snacks. I don't normally leave reviews but the food certainly deserved it.

We came to the cuckmere inn on Saturday night to celebrate my mums birthday, we have always had great meals in the past here and she was really looking forward to it, Upon arrival she asked if she could sit in the snug area but was told this was closed (6 o clock on a Saturday night?) so we’re directed to the back of the restaurant next to the fire, which was ok, the fire was bearly a light, so my sister asked if they could put some more wood on it, they said ok, but never did, and then told her off for putting the last log on, the staff then refused to get anymore wood to refill the baskets and it promptly went out, a far cry from the advisement of roaring log fires on the website, it didn’t help either that the pub was very cold, with my mother having to wear her coat inside. Drinks orders were taken at the bar, and when delivered to the table all the glasses were really water stained and one was covered in lipstick, the food took a while to arrive, which is not unusual for the cuckmere, but when it got there all of the meals were stone cold, making the fries almost in edible, on a par with McDonalds, the burgers were very overcooked and tough and none of them had cheese, only some sort of rancid synthetic cheese sauce, the lettuce was unwashed and had visible dirt on it, my mothers pizza was clearly burned on the bottom, with hardly any cheese, and resembled more of a frisbee than the lovely pizzas she is used to, my sister had the kids pizza, which actually wasn’t too bad, but ordered a side of hummus and veg sticks, where the hummus was forgotten, and when it did eventually come out was really dry. We then had chocolate brownie for dessert with the smallest ball of ice cream known to man sliding all over the plate, my mum had the sticky toffee pudding which was cold as well. We have always had our family gatherings at the cuckmere and have always been well looked after in the past, so it made the experience even more disappointing this time. We didn’t complain at the time as my mum was already upset and didn’t want to ruin the evening further.

Had a great meal an a good evening, enjoyed so much go there a fair bit ,the food was good an the staff are all very friendly an a good laugh ,I would certainly recommend a great place to go .

I love The Cuckmere Inn, it has a great location positioned right next to the river overlooking the snaking water that leads to the sea. Food was excellent and good value. Chloe our waitress was very welcoming and friendly, giving a superb dining experience.

A party of 4 for lunch. We visited after a walk to the estuary and back. Took about an hour in total. About. 1 mile each way. We were served by Shannon. She was very busy and rushed but nothing we asked was too much trouble. She was excellent! The food for lunch was very good. All cooked well and plenty for us. We left the place stuffed and very happy.

My partner & I came on impulse for a wee drink & broadgame. We wanted a table by the fire, but on occasion we were out of luck. We did, however get a quiet cosy spot to enjoy a crackin pint & a special coffee. Great fun! We loved it. We did not order any food.

Nice pub with the benefit of beautiful surroundings. You can park free as long as you have a drink or have something to eat. Then go for a walk along the cuckmere.

Beautiful location with a warm and friendly atmosphere. I had lunch with a large group and we were all looked after very well. The food was served to all of us together and was very well presented. A big thank you to the hard working staff.

We went to the Cuckmere Inn a couple of weeks ago and had a lovely meal and super service. Took visiting family there on Sunday - Very disappointing. They had run out of most of the roasts. Some of the family were missing food items from their meal and to top it all we were given someone else’s bill!!!!!!!!

Had a lovely family gathering to celebrate the return of our daughter with her fella from British Columbia. We were a party of 13 and Alex looked after us as if she was part of the family. Great atmosphere and great food but it was a memorable day thanks to Alex 👍
