Stay away - terrible 40 minutes for 2 large chips They managed to get my order wrong too Tiniest portion size for a “large” chip I’ve ever seen. Value for money - awful Surely a large chip should have more than what’s in my pic??

Really tasty food. Don’t expect it to be super quick but worth waiting for. Latest- not sure why but this place has taken a nose dive!! Prices are silly and the service is a joke!

Placed an order over the phone, very simple order. x2 Garlic Cheesy Chips and x2 portions of nuggets. Went to collect my order, paid for my order. Waited 10 mins then I was told that there was no cheese to put on my CHEESY GARLIC CHIP. I then compromised and just took Garlic sauce on my chips. After leaving I opened my chip and to my surprise there was barely any garlic sauce on my chip. I’ve no idea how they messed up such a simple order

I called in on Friday evening and ordered Fish & Chips £10.50 and it was delicious chips were great!! Young staff were very polite and efficient 👍

I always get a good fish and chip here. Chips are always good flavour has been my experience. And reasonable prices for the amount.

I must say, the chips from this place are simply delicious! Every bite is filled with an explosion of flavor that's hard to resist. From the crispy texture to the perfectly add salt and vinegar, these chips are definitely a must-try... Overall, I highly recommend their chips to anyone who likes a GOOD BAG OF CHIPS.

Food is stinking, staff are worse.

Hit or Miss. I stopped eating here when Docs and McCanns opened in Newcastle having had several bad meals from Bayside. I tried it again end of last year and was pleasantly surprised how nice it had become again, however i've now had two really bad fish suppers in a row. The first was served on a Sunday evening by a young lad who took the food straight out of the fryer and into the wrappers without letting the food breath, as a result it was soggy by the time i got it home. The 2nd most recent was last weekend at lunch time, the owner served me two fish suppers. All looked good this time until I tasted the fish and cut it open further. It was rotten and black in the middle and tasted awful. Both myself and my partner had an off tummy the rest of the day. What ever fish they are using now is not quality. It's also a real pain as they don't accepts debit cards - cash only. I won't be back any time soon.

Fish was nice but battery was very greasy as it didn't have time to drain properly which in turn made chips greasy too.

Nice chippy, good portions but not overly quick. Be prepared for a wait (however we went during the good weather spell). Parking is free but limited outside the shop so keep a lookout for a space.

Any time l have used either of the spots I have enjoyed the chips and fish very much. The other night I got lovely breaded scampi from Dundrum and Iovely fresh good tasting chips. And I had a pleasant chat while I. Waited with a very nice girl serving..

Waited around 30 minutes in the queue, once inside waited a further 10 minutes and was not even acknowledged or spoken to, never mind asked for my order. I eventually turned and walked out in disbelief at the service. Will not be back and would not recommend at all. Will take my custom elsewhere.

Where to begin? We visited here on the way to newcastle after having a previous good experince a few years ago, however to my digust, it was almost vomit-inducing. To start, the memorable and good quality carboard packing from the last visit was replaced with some soggy, chuck e cheese-style, thin cardboard boxes made the already awful meal even worse, as the box fell apart in our hands. We tried to inquire what was in a chicken kebab, however the member of staff gave a vague description leaving out the fact that the kebab was smothered in what tasted like old, plastic cheese that made it soggy and bland. The rest of the chicken kebab was just as bad, as it turned out as one big soggy lump. The chicken gravy we were promised to have covering the kebab was pretty much absent and clearly replaced by that rank cheese. But i guess that wasnt too bad as, i dont know if you have ever tasted chicken, but the grey dishwater like 'chicken gravy' had clearly never touched any chicken flavoured product. The chicken had a weird aftertaste, that had vinegary notes, even though vinegar, to my knowledge, was nowhere near it. It doesnt end there, as the chips were rock-solid, cold and bland, which just topped off this already rank meal. Never visiting here again, and warning my friends of the sick feeling i experienced after visiting here.

Best chippy in the area, massive fish cooked perfectly. Better than any we get in Belfast. Highly recommend

My friend and I stopped at this place on the way to Newcastle, got a burger each and a chip. The burger was beautiful and tasty as were the chips, I would thoroughly recommend it, thanx guys, good luck.

We whet to here last night and we put are orders in and about an hour later we got are orders they food was not nice and you don't get much for your money and they never put in some of are order we whet to a friend s place to eat are order and the time we whet back to tell them they where close and tried phoning them but they would not answer it

Food last night was such a disappointment 😏 Fish used to am-az-ing but was such a let down 😉 No curry sauce available, chicken gravy was watery and flavourless, bought 2 received one 😌 garlic mayo £1 for the smallest tub out end up having to buy a 2nd one. £30 wasted. should have drove on home as not one of the four of us was satisfied with our food.

Waited 30 minutes for a gravy chip & a cheesy chip. Finally got them and both were cold. The cheese wasn’t even melted. No supper sauce & staff were rude. I came back in to speak about the cheesy chip being stone cold & solid cheese on top I was nastily laughed at by a rude woman behind the counter when leaving again after it being replaced. The place was full of people and it’s only because it’s the only chippy near, not for good food. Rule of 3 inside the shop also isn’t enforced .. I will never return

This has got to be the worst run takeout I have ever come across in my life. A busy queue usually means good food and a popular place. Not in this case. Long queues meant people waiting forever for food and in some cases even for their order to be taken. Firstly, this place does not abide by the COVID 19 guidance. Posted on the front door is a notice “3 people at any one time.” Totally the opposite. At time of visit there were 6 people in the tiny takeout; double the amount. There was no room to stand and equally no room to move. Employees were not masked, neither 2m apart (distance understandable but no excuse for lack of masks). It took 20 minutes to half an hour for someone to take my order. The cashier was too busy interested in taking phone orders and dealing with pickups rather than serving people in front of her. Finally when I did order she didn’t have any change (cash only of course…why would they take card?) She short changed me 60p and said she’ll have it when the next few customers pay for theirs…ended up not getting it in the end. They had no curry sauce, no gravy, and I even heard one of the employees say they were running out of chips! It was 6.15pm! Once we got the food, 20 minutes later, she had no forks and when I asked for the drink which came with the meal she looked at me as if I had two heads. Asked for a Coke Zero, got Diet Coke. Got back to the car the sausages were burnt (battered sausages) and the food was dripping with grease. The only saving grace for this place is it’s the only fish and chips takeout close. Quite possible the worst run establishment I’ve ever come across.

Nice fish and chips today Nice staff

Visited on spec on a day out. Excellent service, fresh fish, crispy batter and some chips thrown in. Forks, sauce and napkins thrown in, also excellent cup of tea. Don't know if this is a permanent thing but it was cash only on the day. Took the takeaway to the castle carpark for a picnic with a view.

Usually pretty consistent with food, portion size, quality and taste. I can't recommend the pizza side of the operation however, they're usually cooked alright but there is no generosity in fact the amount of toppings are downright mean, we asked for extra mushrooms and honestly there wasn't even one whole mushroom added when we put the slices together, same with pepperoni there were 6 small discs on a 12 inch pizza really put us off ordering again as they aren't cheap

First time calling into the Bay Side Catch...First impression was the cleanliness...I was greeted by a lovely member of staff who took my order and chatted while I waited on my meal . It was then that I noticed the TripAdvisor sticker on the wall...I at this point was very impressed with the visit...I thought if the food is as good as the overall visit.. I'll write a review on TripAdvisor...Food was beautiful..So matched the visit. We'll be back!! Thank-you to Erinfor great customer service!!

Food was 5* today ! Think a lot of reviews are very harsh or attack at business as any time we travel down to get it the staff are so friendly and food is simply amazing (recommend the fish or beef and bird burger) all staff in masks and hats really makes going out for food a little easier on the nerves with all this covid but brilliant job guys see yous next week

Got food here for my inlaws and they loved it. Fish cooked to perfection and served by a lovely girl on Friday evening. I am a veggie so not much on menu for me - they were going to prep me up a veggie wrap or salad bowl, but they were great at organising a pizza & wedges from Ru Macs next door.Highly recommended and will be back.

Children under the age of 18 cooking food, when they haven’t got a clue what they are doing. Food undercooked and soggy, not tasting nice. Not worth the money!!!

Dont accept card, even though covid 19 is in place, why? There sit in is replaced by a pizzerias that opens at certain times.Majority off staff are unsure about certain ingredients in homemade batter and also bought in frozen products.Staff look under age, 2 members I spoke to were 16 with no senior member off staff available. This is disgraceful that underage members off staff are left alone and I will be contacting the proper authorities due to this

Sit in is converted to a pizza carry out now.Anyway I got cod goujons.I think there were 4 pieces.Bit crispy and wee bit oily but edible.I think previous reviews are harsh.It was ok and free chips were dry and ok.£4.20 is about right priced.Not much carry out choice in Dundrum so little choice.Still recommended.

This chippy is obviously under new management. We come to Newcastle to our caravan and always make the trip to Bayside Catch as it’s food is not to be missed. But after today’s visit I will personally never be back. Avoid at all costs. Staff very unfriendly. Could not even take the order down over the phone. Told 20 mins but after 45 mins I went in and asked where are food was I was informed that they had no cod gougons left. So when were they going to tell me?I was not offered any alternative which left me gobsmacked and very annoyed. I understand we are in difficult times but to be just point blank told after waiting for so long I was not happy. It was an hour from phone call to be told this. Furious because I rant about how great the food is here and had my family delay heading home so they could try it. Will never be back. Went to McCann’s in Newcastle and they were 10 out of 10

Don’t go near it. Yes food was pretty good, but customer service was appalling to say the least. Sunday night the staff member on the till was very unpleasant and rude. It’s a pity one staff member can ruin the reputation of a business.

We always came to this chippy. They did the biggest fattest fish cooked to perfection and great chips too, but it must be under new management this last year. Fish is now thin and skittery and over done. Give it a miss! Very sad it's went down hill..

Lovely fresh-cooked fish with a generous portion of chips. Wide choice on the menu. The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is that when we got home, we found we had been given gravy instead of the curry sauce we ordered.

If I could give a zero I would. Husband went in to order a fish and chip, took 20 mins for order, that not b so bad if the food was nice,but was inedible, rock hard chips and fish that just didn't taste right at all. Think we'll stick to the Newcastle chippy

The food has been good on previous visits but today the chips were not nice and one fish was overcooked and dry.

I've always said that as good as a product is, a place is lifted to a different level by great staff. Bayside Catch could be lifted to a different level by staff who could say, operate a till? Or maybe produce orders in line, (couple placed order before us, we served first, oops). But, it's a takeaway chippy, so let's not be too hard. The chips were fresh, crispy and tasty. Burgers and pasty great, served in lovely baps. So if you want good food and are not too worried how long you have to wait, come here.

Easily the best chippy in the area...extensive menu of freshly prepared goodies..pleasant staff and wide range of drinks, sundries etc..we usually munch ours in the Murlough, National Trust car park. Enjoy!!

Worst I have ever had. Chips cold - fish really dry - batter soggy and not cooked - two wee girls more interested in home time - what a pity.

Food took at least half an hour to arrive even though there was only one other person in the sit in. Could see the frys were being kept warm in the heating part of the pans when waiting on other food. Sausages were shrivelled from sitting under the heater so long. Eggs were well done. One of my friends couldn't eat theres at all.. the chips were lovely and so was the curry sauce. The cordial tasted off.. was told the wait was due to only having a small hot plate so maybe invest in a bigger one.
