As usual the staff were better than the food, although this was an improvement over our last visit. The men's toilets are still dire, still no lock on one cubicle, ( 8 months)!,,

Visited with family for a birthday meal. Only one option of Roast available - not great seeing as it was booked at lunchtime’ The carpet was sticky so stuck to the floor, chairs were stained and felt damp. The place could do with a good clean as the cobwebs in the light fixing (above the table) looked like they had been there a while. Not very impressed, won’t be visiting again .

Whilst on way to restaurant we received a call to say card machines were not working, so they wanted cash only. Fortunately we had enough cash. On arrival had to wait for a drink because of technical issues, then was told the draft beer advertised on the menu as “new” was unknown to them. They didn’t even know it was on the menu. In the restaurant service was ok, apart from being called “mate” rather than sir. TBH I wasn’t that bothered but it is disrespectful. Ordered a 10oz ribeye steak cooked medium but when it arrived it was black and thin and could not have been more than 7-8 oz. Cutting into it showed it to be on the burnt side of well done. My wife’s sirloin that she asked for medium to well done was slightly better but still overcooked. The waiter asked if I wanted another but experience suggests this would have been a lottery and I don’t enjoy eating when my partner has finished hers. The rest of the meal was acceptable but uninspiring. It’s not somewhere I could recommend, either for the quality of the food or the tired decor.

Great food, nice atmosphere, and excellent service from Jo our waitress. She made sure to understand my dairy allergies. I ordered dessert, but asked for it without the ice cream. When dessert was served, She also kindly brought out in a separate dish a vegan (dairy free) ice cream. I hadn’t even noticed it was an option on the menu! Will definitely come again if in the area.

Where to begin…, absolutely awful experience. Paul was incredible rude and should not be working in customer service. Overheard him talking to colleagues saying that he didn’t like someone in a group so they were not going to get good service. How true this was!! Food was cold, steak sent back as it was overcooked and then the next steak was not the correct steak and was still not cooked properly, missing meals, food missing from dishes. Very slow service and wouldn’t open another till even though there were lots of people ordering. Paul was extremely rude to all in the group, which is a shame as the girls working were polite and helpful but Paul made sure that it was not an enjoyable experience for anyone. Toilets falling off the wall and no locks on doors.

Decided at last minute to try the Crowns nest as not been in years for dinner. Sadly we were very disappointed. We were shown to our table and given the menus. No evening menu was offered. I doubled checked on line to ensure of the times and it was after 5 o clock. When the waiter brought our drinks I asked for the evening menu. He said he would go and check if it was available & brought us the menu. I watched other tables been seated and none of them were offered the evening menu either. Why is this not happening?? Our food itself was ok but who puts spicy mayo with calamari. It should be a lemon mayo or garlic. The spicy mayo was disgusting. Think it's the sauce they use for the curry dish. Our steaks were both cold when they were put on the table. Had I know my partners was also cold I would have sent both back. Beefeater sadly you have gone down hill. Average pub grub but not pub prices. Sadly we will not be returning anytime soon.

To top it off, service was terrible and could tell they didn’t care. Food was put together like they didn’t care too. Would avoid.

We Visited for a meal with our grandchildren Thursday evening 4 January 2024. The grandchildren went for the 3 course meal deal. The starter and children’s rump steak was excellent the pancake pudding needs improvement. The chocolate should be milk and not dark (most children prefer milk to dark) and the pancakes should be warmed and not served stone cold. On a very serious note the toilets are a disgrace. The cubicles are far too small and door locks are broken. We have visited this restaurant many times before and I don’t ever remember the disabled toilet being working. The good news is the staff are excellent and service is superb. What a shame the fabric of the building is so tatty and let’s the whole place down. .

We have been going to The Crows Nest for years and it was one of our favourite places for meal in a convenient location. However, yesterday was a real disappointment. We both wanted fillet steak but they only had one. I had the sirloin which was tough. The tomatoes and mushrooms which came with the meals were stone cold. The tomatoes looked like they had been slightly grilled at some point - goodness knows when. The mushrooms didn't look like they had been cooked at all. The choices seem to have diminished. Thee used to be salmon or tuna on the menu but not anymore. It's a shame as the serving staff are very friendly and we used to enjoy going there.

My family and I come to this restaurant every month and love it here. With a young family it's the perfect place to bring the family, for a tasty great value meal. Whilst the current menu is limited due to the restrictions , the festive menu is looking very tasty and comprehensive, even before the big day. Despite the shortened menu, it's the usual steak/burger/vegetarian options one might expect. The steaks are great value and great tasting and the specialty burgers the periodically introduce are a welcome change. My family prefers the sunday roasts, which always feel good value and as long as you are nice and early always have the full range of chicken, lamb, beef. However, saturday is steak night and their triple cooked chips are worth choosing.Summers are our favourite times to visit as they have an extensive garden and play park for young children and extensive views across the valley, but with the recent social distancing measures they've introduced now is probably a great time to go as it's nice and peaceful, with attentive staff, which is more than enough to make you feel safe, clean and secure enough to enjoy your meal. Speaking of staff I've been going there for over 20 years and know some of them for many years. Today we were served by Gemma, who, as always, was kind, friendly, quick, attentive and good with the kids. Coincidentally, it was my wife's birthday today and were presented with an unexpected, but welcomed gift. We made use of a voucher we received as loyalty card holders on their mailing list, which i also recommend joining, for offers and deals. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough and can't wait for 2 weeks time when we'll definitely be trying the Christmas roast.

We visted the Crow's Nest early evening and booked a table for three a week or so in advance of our booking. We were met at the door and the COVID rules were explained, we had to scan and fill in the Track and Trace form at the door before we were shown to our table. The place didn't feel that busy, but this may have been in part due to the COVID arrangements. I think in the booking process it mentioned that the table was only booked for two hours, but this was not mentioned when we arrived, although I realise in hindsight that this was no doubt the reason for our very quick service.Waiting staff were VERY efficient, asking us for drinks orders before we'd even sat down and then returing for food orders only a minute or two later. We had to send the waitress away twice while we decided what to have. Once ordered, the food came out pretty quickly and we had eaten our starters and mains within 45 minutes of arriving. With a dessert and then paying the bill, we had left the place within an hour and a half. They certainly don't want you hanging around! The food quality was ok, in respect of the desserts, it felt like they'd been scrimping and saving as the portion size did not seem to be as large as pre-COVID. As the restaurant felt emptier, it also felt a bit more cold and draughty, but I guess this can't be avoided. Overall it was a good meal, service was extremely quick and we felt comfortable in the surroundings. However if you're wanting to go as a more social event and relax in the place, it may not be for you at the present time. It would have helped if staff had reminded us of the 2 hour table limit when we arrived as we saw a couple of chaps over the other side querying it when they tried to order drinks and were told their time was nearly up. Apart from this, all was good.

I’d like to start by praising the staff for being extremely organised and ensuring that customers felt safe as well as following a very clear one way system. However, the food wasn’t good at all. We had a sharing garlic flatbread the start which was tasteless and lukewarm. We thought it was just a blip so didn’t make a big thing. I ordered a roast which wasn’t hot. The potatoes were clearly cook from frozen, the beef was tough and the gravy was greasy. I did mention this to our waitress and in all fairness she did ask whether I wanted a fresh one but by this time I could hear the people behind me saying the same thing and had lost my appetite by then. I told her that we were in a bit of a rush (which we were). My husbands fish and chips were ok but the chips needed a bit more cooking. They didn’t bother to take anything off the bill. I wouldn’t expect much but a small gesture would have been nice. The ladies behind me were as equally disappointed as we were. Needless to say, unfortunately we won’t be returning any time soon.

The Crow's Nest is next to a very good Premier Inn (both owned by Whitbread) so it serves as the restaurant for the hotel. As with most similar Whitbread pubs, it is very well-managed (well done, Aaron) and has terrific staff - shout out for Casey who is always cheerful and friendly, even at 7.00am on a Sunday. The dinner menu is as you would expect - pub favourites with a couple of more unusual dishes thrown in, good burgers and fish and chips and steaks. Avoid the Caesar Salad which is just lettuce and a dressing. The interior of the pub has had partitions put up to keep diners separated and they have a one-way system in place which seems to work pretty well. Breakfast is no longer a buffet, of course, but there is ss till a resonable rnage of food on offer. If you do fancy the cooked breakfast, it is good value - the continental breakfast perhaps less so. And the bitter is well looked after!

Firstly, have to say that the servers are all very friendly, attentive and on top of the game for the new norm. The dining area and surrounds were equally observant. Food wise it was typical average Beefeater fare and was mainly ok. Only critisim of the food was the garden peas, garden bullets was a better description. This was on two nights so not a one off. Couple of issues that needed addressing, firstly, asked for black pudding for breakfast and was told they had ran out yesterday morning. 24 hours to rectify and nothing done. This is not the first time Beefeater stock control has caught me out, hence the mention. The second incident went along the following lines:Server: Would you like a drinkMe: Yes please, do you have any aleServer: Yes we have Fullers.Me, eyes lighting up in hope: ESB?Server: YesMe, now died and gone to heaven: A pint please.5 minutes later a pint turns up on my table looking decidedly pale. Not ESB then, one taste told me, London Pride chilled to an inch of its life. When I queried the chilling, I was told "that's how we serve it", no point in going any further with that conversation then. Product knowledge needs a refresh, maybe just rusty after all this lockdown.

Popped in for breakfast Tuesday morning. Cooked food was fab high five to the chef. Staff are very busy due to covid changes to buffet food, but were their usual chatty selves. The view is amazing, great way to start the day. They have signs outside asking people to keep 2 meters distance whilst queuing, and to wait until called forward, unfortunately it seems some people have trouble with taking in information. Clear one way signage throughout the restaurent all in all another great experience.

My friends and I had a lovely meal on Sunday 6th September. The food was amazing with great choices to choose from and most of all the service was excellent. The waitress I think her name was Gemma was extremely helpful, knowledgeable of the menu and super friendly and made our experience at the crows nest very enjoyable.I highly recommend the crows nest and will definitely be returning again.

I was out for the day and decided to get something to eat and take advantage of the Eat Out To Help Out offer. When you arrive at the restaurant you are encouraged to wait at the door and called forward. The lady took my details for track and trace purposes and then escorted me to my table. The restaurant was not too busy so it was pleasant. They have a one way system in place to protect staff and customers. The lady who was serving me asked if I wanted a drink and this was shortly brought over and I waited a short while for her to serve other customers and come and take my order.I waited a little longer and got her attention saying I would like to order. She said she thought I was waiting for other people and I said I was not.I was very pleased that it did not take long for my meal to arrive and it was excellent.Apart from the lady assuming I was waiting for other people it was a very good visit and I would probably visit if I was in the area again.

The inside of this pub looks very tired. We decided tosit outside instead which was better athough alot of uncleared tabes with others debris was not pleasant. The menu in hte garden is vey limited. We ordered steak that was not cooked tht well - not what y =ou woud expect in a beefeater. Overcooked peas. A rather diappointing visit.

Paid for two as we stayed in the Premier inn next door. Emma was the only waitress from 0900 till 0930 when Tori arrived as staff had called in sick. Emma was very apologetic but still managed to keep all the tables serviced on her own until help arrived and there were a few larger parties 6-8 people. The 'eat as much as you like' cooked breakfast was amazing value for £8.50. Toast and drinks included. Veggie option with Quorn sausages no vegan option. Shame to see a lot of tables unable to be used because of Covid. The view from the restaurant windows is beautiful. Lots of outdoor seating and a kid play area. Sadly this was closed on the day we visited. If you want a decent sized reasonable quality brekka and great service you can't go wrong here!

The food was nicely proportioned and very well cooked but the menu was very limited for intolerances. The menu did not highlight ingredients but the waitress was able to consult an ingredient check which meant as cow dairy and egg intolerant I only had one option... steak. I would have preferred more vegetables as there was a tiny side of green. Tables were screened off in most areas and the arrangement very good for safety. However the placed lacked atmosphere being very functional and little decor plus large industrial aircon units that were a little cold causing us to swap tables. Service was good and attentive. All in all though it was very expensive at approx £20 per person for one main one drink (with one being coke) and a pudding for an experience that despite the great efforts from the team felt more canteen than day out.

This was our first meal in a restaurant since Covid and I could not have been happier with our experience. I was apprehensive about eating inside which I shared with the door host, however on arrival I was pleasantly surprised with the precautions that the crows nest had taken. Katie looked after us, and being kept at ease continued with her explaining what to expect throughout our experience, could not have asked for better service!

Popped in to here on the off chance as we were just passing. We were met by a lovely lady who talked us through the current protective measures. We ordered at the bar and sat in the garden as we had not Pre-booked. The brides from the garden are lovely. Food was lovely although if I had been paying full price I may have questioned it? We were lucky to visit during the ‘eat out to help out’ discount. Once we had finished our mains we had to exit the garden round the outside of the building and come back in the front door to order at the bar again. Unfortunately this meant we had to queue with those waiting to enter the pub to be seated. Maybe a separate queue for those just doing the walk from the back garden to go to the bar or toilet again is needed. All in all we had a positive experience

This is the first meal we have had since lockdown. Although the early signs were good, when we walked in we were greeted but as member of staff and they explained about their Covid measures. Unfortunately although our waitress was very friendly she was not wearing a mask and although I know it is not mandatory for them to do so I would have felt more comfortable if she was, as other waitresses were. We had dry, hard garlic flat mushrooms to start. For the main we wanted Fillet steak but they only had Rump steak on the menu - which is not great for a steak house - so I had the Rump steak. It is advertised at 8oz with a side salad. See the picture below for what arrived. To be fair it was cooked well but it looked more like a 5oz and when I asked where the side salad was the waitress just said that is all they had!I understand we have just come out of lockdown and we went on a Wednesday night under the new Government east out scheme so we only paid 50% but the restaurant are getting the other half back so I don’t believe they should be scrimping on the food they serve. It has definitely put me off going out again for a while.

Was invited to a dry run Friday night. Its a slightly different experience but everything has been put in place to ensure you feel safe whilst comfortable. Less tables than normal to comply with government rules and screens are in place divideing the remaining tables. There are hand sanitisers in various places throughout the restaurent and the waiting staff can be seen doing their hands constantly. Food was up to the usual standard, but there is a slightly smaller choice on the menu now. All the favourites are there though so there is something for everyone. Staff were fab as always, was so nice to see all the old faces. I'll definitely be back.

Service was good. However the food was pretty awful. I had the open chicken sandwich.. fries were good though. Then when I went to pay, I saw that the chefs didn’t even have gloves on - not very hygienic, especially with the coronavirus about. Also felt like they could have had some music playing, atmosphere was awkward and silent most of the time. I don’t usually like to write bad reviews but this was really bad.

We went for Sunday Roast last week. The meal was all but inedible. The roast beef was in fact a steak left over from the had before and cut into three strips. It was tough not tender and tasteless. The potatoes were over cooked or reheated, the Yorkshire rubbery and the pig in blanket tiny. All in all it was a disgrace of a meal. We did complain and got a discount but this in no way compensated for a ruined event. We will not be returning.

Family Sunday lunch was at the crows nest this week. We were one of the earliest bookings, clearly as it was empty when we came in. Our server was very nice, attentive and fast, intollorence menu was found and correct page opened in record time. Our table was an add on to the back of the first part of the restaurant, the three tables put together didn't match, the rest of the restaurant is clearly designed and this table an emergency spare, but that's not the big issue. The placement of the table was at the rear of the front dining area butting onto the corridor that goes to the rear dining area, this meant that we had on one side of the table a constant stream of people coming in and out, bringing with them a breeze of cold air from the front door and high speed waiting staff thundering by on the noisy floor, which must be aging boards as every passing person jiggled the table and our seats. The large round table next to us has a large curved wall around that side of it to shield it from all this, so it's an issue foreseen by the designers.Food, being Sunday, some of us opted for Sunday roast. The manager and kitchen staff were great in accommodating intollorence adjusting portions to suit and leaving out certain ingredients where they could. The "slow cooked beef" was very disappointing, tough, tasted of very little and was served in large chunks, not finely sliced like most roast beef is served, the gravy was little help as it had as much taste as the beef. The rest of the food was OK. If I'm after enormous carb heavy burger and steak dinners, I'll consider here again as they looked good on their way past, but not for Sunday lunch.

We went for lunch at 12pm on a Monday. When we entered, the place was dead and we waited at the reception area for 10 minutes before someone came out and showed us to a table. The table was actually quite nice - it was situated to the back of the restaurant with wide-reaching views. But things deteriorated from there. Despite the fact there were only four other occupied tables, it took ages for someone to take our drinks and food order. The food did come pretty quickly after that, and we were asked if we would like sauces. We said yes, and then waited, and waited and waited. Nothing turned up, and eventually, we had to go wandering around the restaurant trying to find someone who could supply the aforementioned sauces (the same also happened with the table next to us). The food was ok, if somewhat cold by this stage.

Came in back entrance so saw no signs about needing to register parking, staff also said nothing . Later sent a letter informing me I had a £100 fine for parking in their car park. Phoned pub, who said to appeal and would pay ‘admin fee’ only. Appealed it, sent a very formal letter informing me id still need to pay £20 else a debt recovery agent would get involved and given for the appeal I had to give my address not particularly friendly warning. However now given this situation thought I better leave an honest review, to help others wondering whether to visit. The pub is not dog friendly - mine had to stay in car, first pub experienced that in years! Food nothing to write home about, extortionately priced for what you get. Somewhere I’ll remember not to return to.
