Off the beaten track this is a gem. Called for Sunday lunch. It was an excellent meal with great service. Chef called to the table to ensure all was as we wanted it. All staff were friendly and professional. Well worth a visit.

We stayed here overnight for a family wedding. The landlady (Ann ) and her husband were very welcoming and friendly. Ours rooms were clean with fresh bedding and towels. Breakfast the following morning was full English with choice of eggs toast and cereal. Fresh coffee and tea. The children were also looked after very well. Such a freindly accommodating experience. Thank you

Booked Sunday lunch for 2 at 2pm. Quiet by then. Offered lounge (as there was space) or restaurant area. Lovely wood burner in lounge and stayed in there. Nice homely and intimate feel. Made to feel very welcome. Great choice of beverages even including proper amber ales that seem so sparse nowadays. Great Sunday roast. All the trimmings. Honest cooked food and plenty of it. Fab selection of desserts. Booked again for 6 of us in a few weeks. Lovely thanks Anna and your staff.

Simply a good honest British Pub, some of the best beer available and good affordable tasty food served in a really nice dining room. We had fish & chips also a homemade steak & kidney pudding. I know of no other pub in this general area serving home cooking of this quality at such prices. Open 7 days ( food 6 days) I stress I am not in anyway connected to this pub other than I visit frequently.

I was cycling and camped in the field opposite (with the owner’s permission). Run by Alan and Anna, The Crown is a traditional free house. Anna’s home cooked food is excellent and Alan’s beer perfect after a day cycling. They even told me to knock in the morning when closed for a coffee. Really nice people and place; a proper independent, quirky English pub.

7 people for Sunday lunch. 6 oldies and one toddler. Good food quality and very good portions. Little person was not charged for his lunch. He also got icecream, sprinkles and a lolly!!! Prices are extremely reasonable and worth it. The best thing is that we would come again

This was our second time eating at this pub and both times were excellent it’s like going round your mother’s house for Sunday dinner everything is home cooked by Anna. And it’s delicious. It’s prob one of my fav pubs around Melton simply for the proper home cooked food. Sunday they just serve Sunday dinner but hey that’s what Sunday’s are for. And it’s lovely I’ve had roast beef and today I had roast pork both lovely. We shall definitely be returning very soon. Both Anna and her husband are very welcoming. Nice for just a drink after a long walk too. 😁

Have been to this lovely pub now 3 times, landlord and landlady very friendly, Anna the landlady made me a coffee cake whilst I waited, unbelievably friendly, and she didn’t even ask me to pay, it was lovely. This is the best pint of bitter I know anywhere, 10/10. This is a traditional pub, dog friendly I believe within the loveliest surroundings ... the best walk bar none starts directly outside the pub down to a ford maybe 2/3 miles away. Couldn’t be nicer X Well done for speaking and chatting to your customers, giving excellent service at good prices and top quality home made food and superb kept ales. I don’t know a better traditional English pub, but also try the more expensive but beautiful Fox and Hounds at Knossington too ... will be going again soon. Thank you for my chocolate cake Anna X

Wonderful couple who own the pub. Have never felt as accomodated as we were for our meal. They were really bothered and even asked us what individual vegetables we wanted. The price was excellent and the female owner was excellent with the kids - getting their food served first to keep them busy, colouring and ice cream too! Absolutely first class, the kids wanted to come back tomorrow!!

The food is so beautifully home cooked that I felt I’d gone round to my mum’s for supper, the beer is very well kept but what makes this pub perfect is that you immediately feel part of the family! The regulars are really lovely and chatty, the landlord is great and the landlady really cares about her food and the comfort of her guests. Oh how I wish more pubs were like this! Thanks for making our week in Sproxton even more wonderful.

We arrived here on the off chance of lunch. The staff were very welcoming and the owners were too. They brought out a small knife and fork for our two year old and we had a Sunday roast that was fantastic and we all enjoyed it greatly. The home made desserts were varied and all scrumptious! The owners were lovely and we will certainly be back for a visit!

We stayed 20th July. Got back to Inn late after a disastrous Il Divo show at Belvoir Castle. We were cold and hungry. Anna offered us something hot to eat and opened the kitchen at 11pm. Where else would this happen? Rooms big and airy. Cooked breakfast very good. Lovely welcome and would go again.

My wife and I visited the Crown for an overnight stay following a gig at Belvoir Castle - This pub is well situated and run by the wonderful Anna. To say the least Anna made our stay a night to remember - we arrived back after the concert at 11pm and my wife and I were treated to Annas' hospitality - although she had shut the kitchen down for the night she fired it up again to dish us and another couple a lovely late night dinner. This Inn is run by a Anna and Alan and they are very welcoming hosts - " this is my home" Anna told us and you are my guests - we certainly felt at home and enjoyed our stay. The rooms are clean and comfortable and great for people on a budget. Anna - myself and Linda thank you for your kindess and we look forward to maybe visiting again.

This is a traditional unreconstructed local pub with rooms, excellent food and a good choice of ales. I stayed the night when I was walking the Viking Way and can thoroughly recommend the Crown. The room was quiet, clean and comfortable, and the food excellent - worth travelling a long way to eat the landlady's steak and kidney pudding - the real McCoy with light suet pastry all round and not the impostors normally served these days with a lid of puff pastry perched on top of the meat. The plentiful filling was tender and truly delicious. It was a pleasure to stay here.

We stayed at this hotel for one night after a visit to Rutland water. The room was comfy, warm and welcoming. The owners were kind and obliging and nothing seemed too much trouble. We enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar before eating in the restaurant and enjoyed a nice meal before retiring. In summary a nice place to stay with reasonably priced food and accommodation.

My family ate at The Crown on Friday night. On arrival we received a warm welcome and were asked if we wanted to sit in the restaurant or the bar lounge, we chose the lounge. Choice on the menu and special board was great, offering something for everyone. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the service was personal. Food was tasty, excellent and good portion sizes. Definitely recommend a visit!

Called into the Crown Inn with my boyfriend and his parents who live a short distance away. None of us had visited the Crown Inn before, when we first walked in there were just 3 other people having a drink in the bar and I must admit it I did have 2nd thoughts initially. However, we ordered a drink and sat at a table within the bar area. Although there were no menus on the table all the food was listed on a large blackboard. It appears that this changes regularly. Two of us ordered the kedgeree which had been made by the host that day. All meals were good but the kedgeree had a lovely kick to it, I later asked for the recipe because it was the best kedgeree I've ever had; I was told that it was a Jamie Oliver's recipe that have been pepped up by the host.A family run (I believe) country pub, pleasant hosts and would definitely recommend.

We didn't just use the restaurant, as my friends and I stayed in the 3 bedrooms. Had a very warm welcome and shown to our rooms, which were very comfortable and clean. We ate in the Lounge bar in the evening and we all enjoyed our meals. Slept very well, having come back late from a wedding. All had the cooked breakfast in the morning. I was very well accommodated food wise, as I questioned how things were cooked and replaced items with other things - not a problem! If I'm ever in the area again, I would certainly stay again.

Lovely place, food was wonderful. Have been before and recommended to friends for them to stay the weekend. The only thing I was disappointed with on last visit was that part of the sign letters were hanging down at the front of the building which didn't give it the great first impression it deserves. Hopefully they'll have this fixed in no time.

Call me a leprechaun and get me a pot because ive found gold. What a pub! Every village pub has its uniquity but this one has knocked them out the park. Inside a stunning building is one of the friendliest places ive been to. The staff (Chloe in particular) were so welcoming they made mother Teresa look like Pol Pot. I have no doubt this pub has been around for 2 millenia, because if jesus was to have a ‘last supper’ it mustve been here. The chefs worked a miracle in that kitchen. If my girlfriend wasnt there to tell me off for bad manners i wouldve licked the plate clean. Every local to Waltham on the Wolds should feel privileged to have this at your doorstep. Bloody brilliant

I visited Stapleford Park with a family group - my wife, son and girlfriend and my father-in law and his wife. We wanted to celebrate my son’s girlfriend’s birthday with a special occasion visit because, being Australian, she relished the idea of doing something typically English. The venue itself is undoubtedly impressive, but the afternoon tea experience was very disappointing. On arrival there was no proper welcome from any member of staff engaged in afternoon tea service. We were shown to our table and given a briefing from a senior staff member. After this, the level of service was virtually non-existent. Nobody asked whether everything was OK, whether more or any different teas were required. Amazingly, for this type of event, only one type of tea per person was offered. The sandwiches were unappetising, and cakes decidedly unimpressive. My father-in-law who is 98 went to the bar to settle the bill, and it was only a few days later that he showed us he’d been charged 6 x £41, plus a service charge of £30. He wasn’t told about the service charge when paying. We were outraged at the underhand way this charge had been levied, and also the fact that there was no relationship between the charge and the poor service we had received. The service charge was later refunded following a phone call by my wife. There are obvious signs of weak management and poor staff training here. Avoid if you’re looking for a more rewarding experience.
