What's not to like about this amazing and beautiful pub. A warm welcome, tentative staff and beautiful surroundings. Decorated very tastefully with exposed wooden beams, it truly gives the WOW factor. I will be returning time and time again. Alan and his team are doing an amazing job. The day before, we had returned from a family holiday in Italy and decided to have one last dinner before family members went back to Canada. We arrived at the Crown for a Sunday evening dinner and were warmly welcomed. The starters arrived promptly and were enjoyable. However, we waited an extremely long time for the main course and were offered the dessert menu before it arrived. When the main courses finally came, no cutlery was provided, so we took cutlery from other tables, and by then, the food was lukewarm or cold. We wanted to order a bottle of wine, but never got the chance. Frustrated, we asked for the bill. The waiter apologised for the service, explaining they were understaffed, and removed the service charge. However, when we went to pay, the service charge was included again, prompting my Canadian relative to tell the bar manager they would never visit the establishment again.

Nice food. The pub has really come alive again! Our server Stephen was super attentive. The food came out quickly and the drinks were with us in an instant.

We had an enjoyable lunch as a bank holiday treat. Our server, Steven, was very polite and attentive. I had the Sea-bass and the Rhubarb and Custard Knickerbocker Glory, from the summer menu, which were both so delicious :)

We’ve enjoyed this pub on occasion for years, but hadn’t been in a while and they’ve had a proper revamp. It’s still the same lovely pub, but now they’ve made it into the best possible version. Exceptionally nice decor, with incredible attention to detail. The food is even better than it was before, and they have a really good range of beers on tap, including a really good 0%. The staff are all great. It’s also big enough pub that if a bigger party is in, it’s not going to affect your dining experience - you are cocooned from the noise of others, thanks to all the nooks and crannies separating the different areas. Looking for excuses to visit again soon!

Can’t praise it enough to be honest. Lovely place with a great atmosphere and amazing food. The sourdough starter was so good, we ordered in a second one after the mains! Never tasted bread like it. Our server Kingsley was brilliant, even with our fussy requests. Thanks for a lovely meal, will definitely be back!

We had such a wonderful lunch to celebrate Mum and Dad’s birthdays. We were a large party of 14 and booked out the private room. The service was excellent. Stephen couldn’t have been more helpful - nothing was too much trouble. Thank you making my Mum and Dad’s day so special.

Just popped in for a quick drink and experience the Saturday evening late sunshine in the pub garden. However this was far from a quick drink as service at the bar is really slow - the two team members seemed rushed off their feet preparing drinks orders for diners and people at the bar just have to wait a really long time for service. This is not a one off situation - a previous visit for a drink was tediously long waiting at the bar when in fact there was nobody behind it for ages. Its almost as if they want diners rather than pub punters these days... the place seems to have really changed and not for the good for someone wanting a quick pint

Organised a dinner for 14 friends on Friday night. Extremely helpful staff, allowing for seamless organisation from booking to the evening itself. We pre-ordered food and the food was delicious and served with a precision rarely experienced in a pub setting. A big thank you and a large round of applause to the whole team.

Thank you for a lively time yesterday afternoon when we came in for drinks. I had a lovely chat with a young lad called Kingsley. He served us our drinks, all the while I could see he was paying careful attention to his job and making sure that we were happy by checking up on us a few times.will definitely come back again soon!

We had a lovely dinner in the newly landscaped grounds of The Crown on a glorious sunny early evening. The kids enjoyed running around on the lawn (well..until my son rolled across the lawn through dog poop!). The food was brought prompt and we enjoyed our steaks. Kingsley was attentive with his service, friendly and personable whilst enjoying a joke with our son. We’ll be sure to return again soon!

We had dinner outside in the garden. Kigali was our server & he was amazing , funny & very helpful.

My family and I came in for the famous Sunday roasts, which was extremely tasty and satisfying! But what was even better than the food was the excellent level of service performed by Kingsley, who was very knowledgeable with the menu and charismatic.

Kingsley served us drinks very well last Saturday

I was in the crown last Sunday and was served by the lovely Kingsley. The drinks were amazing and the place had a great atmosphere.

Last week I came for dinner and drinks at the Crown, well what I can I say... WOW! The place is absolutely beautiful and all of their staff members were very welcoming. We were served by a lovely young man, named Kingsley (hope that is correct!), he was very thorough in making sure we were happy with our orders and even recommended multiple dishes for us to try at a later date, he was polite and kind and made a fuss of us. Throughout our evening, he was attentive and often came round to 'check-in' on our food and how our evening was going. I am so happy we decided to try the Crown, we will definitely be back. Thanks for making our time so memorable Kingsley and we hope you'll be there the next time we stop in! Thanks to everyone at the Crown for such a lovely evening.

Since the refurbishment, the menu is far better, very well presented and delicious! Our server, Stephen, was polite and helpful. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

First time back to eat since the renovations. Very enjoyable, our server, Stephen, looked after us very well. We will be back over the summer, especially as the Crown has such a great outdoor space!

Large group of us ate here for an Easter Sunday roast. The service was amazing and everyone really enjoyed the food. Maybe towards the more expensive side but it didn't feel like bad value - we were very well fed!

Our children attended the “make your own pizza” event and had a great time. The head chef was brilliant with them and the pizzas were yum. Would do again / you should consider going kids parties??

We were a group of six plus a dog. We had a fantastic meal in a beautifully refurbished pub - the service from all the staff was exceptional - in particular from our main waitress, Lily - she couldn't do enough for us. She was also professional and friendly. The main courses and puddings were delicious and well presented. The tables were well-spaced out, but the pub also had ann intimate feel to it. We would definitely recommend this pub for both simple and more adventurous meals. Thank you.

We managed to get a table at short notice. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table and the great service didn’t stop there. Great food, fine ale and a friendly and great service!

Normal pub fayre with a chain-feel...the refurb looks great, and was much needed, however pricing on meals and wine has gone through the roof. Lots of specialist restaurants offering better cooking and better wine list for similar price. Not sure if I would recommend.

Style over Substance Visited here for Sunday lunch at 12.15pm so one of the first sitting of the day. Very pleasant young male server welcomed us to our table. Unfortunately my husband’s choice of pork belly had to be returned as cold in the middle. This was replaced but still just warm which did not inspire confidence. My entire roast beef dinner was luke warm with cold cauliflower cheese (how?) and a cold Yorkshire Pudding which had to leave. Beef was so well done it was dried out with 6 pieces of gristle left on plate at the end. Spoke with the waiter at the end and said service was nice and friendly but food experience not good. Stylishly decorated pub however food too poor to return. A real shame.

Such a shame, visited Saturday evening and out of the 8 menu options, the two most popular (chicken and steak) were unavailable. Having a small menu is great but you do need to actually be able to serve all of the menu options! The restaurant has been refurbed and the setting looks great, but unfortunately I didn't want a burger or fish pie, so ended up eating at the motorway services instead!! This is the second time we have been here and it was disappointing so we wont come again.

The food and service were fantastic, and as it was a lovely day we ate in the will wonderful beer garden……we also have a few “allergy” issues to deal with, and the team have all the info you need, and were also really flexible about making changes where they could to accommodate us…..100% get down there!!!

Have come in today as I needed a substitute WFH ( needed a break from my own 4 walls). Well WHAT A FIND, from the moment I pulled up to leaving. Car park massive, welcome, friendly and accommodating, brunch, OMG that egg!!!, service, great WIFI, continuous. Decor, garden and plenty of nooks and corners, cannot fault. My WFH will be WFC (work from Crown) more often. AND DOG FRIENDLY

I took my niece for lunch here today. I was very impressed with the lovely decor and surroundings. However, the sun was shining so we decided to eat al fresco. The garden is beautiful, with plenty of seating area and table service. The staff were really friendly and polite and our food was delicious. We both had the Sirloin steak and chunky chips. The steak was cooked to perfection. The overall experience was fabulous. I will definitely be returning and I would honestly recommend this beautiful little gem in Penn. So disappointing. My friends had reserved a specific table which when we arrived was not available so we were seated in dining room. Incredibly noisy. Menu choice very limited. When we visited last time there was a ‘specials’ menu and much more varied choice on main menu. My beef burger was dry - I wasn’t asked how I wanted it cooked. Chips were cold. Our waiter did say he would tell the kitchen. As I said. Unnecessarily disappointing.

Amazing big place with huge terrace. Perfect for dating. Nice food, decent portions and lovely food. And the best, a well done coffee from machine served.

I booked this restaurant for my Nans birthday along with my Grandad, Father and immediate family as I live locally in Penn. Hearing the establishment had recently been refurbished we were keen to try the new venue. Unfortunately I couldn’t have been more disappointed and shall not be recommending to others. The service was very slow throughout due to understaffing. When our meals finally came out no veg and a missing roast chicken didn’t come out until we asked for it and things were starting to go cold. My father’s burger was disappointing and looked like a kids meal from McDonald’s for £18.50!! He spoke to the manager and his response was “ that’s how we make it “. Everyone was uneasy throughout the meal, which was the polar opposite to how we imagined it would be. I have read the bulk of the reviews there is a clear transparency in all of the things above. It’s on you to thrive or survive. People will pay money for quality, they won’t forget a bad experience. I looked around the room and there was a real unrest in there faces that they had had a very similar experience.

Unfortunately after a visit today, we wouldn't recommend. The service was appalling and slow. Mix up with meals that were incorrect when order placed and when the food came out it wasn't together and other parties in the group their food was getting cold. It was a shame as it was a birthday celebration!!

We ate here for lunch on 28th February prior to going to Heathrow for an international flight. My wife ordered the Charlotte and Heritage Tomato Tarte Tatin. I ordered a burger. The tarte tatin was inedible! The pastry, which should have been firm and crisp was a soggy wet mess. The tomato element consisted of a green tomato plonked in the middle of it. When she remarked to our waiter that it wasn’t good he shrugged and walked away. This was served with a side of supposedly rosemary salted fries, with not a hint of rosemary whatsoever. My burger was ordinary, dry ground beef, not very flavoursome and my fries were also devoid of any rosemary flavour. We were very disappointed and will not be eating there again.

Amazing interiors, friendly staff and exceptional food. Can’t fault anything!! Will definitely return and recommend to family and friends.

It took quite a while for us to get a menu. Then another 15 minutes before we were asked if we wanted a drink. The food was good but the drinks extremely expensive. Our waitress was very off hand. We were extremely disappointed and won’t be returning.

WOW, I just visited this establishment and I am very satisfied. The roast beef filled an empty hole in my heart. It was nicely presented and flavours did not disappoint. The main course lacked one thing - ADEL. He stole the show and frankly, my heart. He is a danger out here in the wild, watch out ladies! (Tip him well X)

Great food and service. Only very slight ‘concern’ would be the amount of meat on the Harissa lamb sharer. However, we mentioned this and Stephen our server very kindly brought some extra meat! Speaking of Stephen, his service was excellent from start to finish. We noticed that he was just as attentive with other tables close by too. Lovely experience!

ADEL!!! That’s ALL I want to praise about this place. This piece of SNACK with his glorious hair and shining smile was my waiter and I wouldn’t have it any other way. He made my day, scratch that, LIFE better. He recommended the finest lamb ragu (I wish it came with him). His attitude and overall charisma hypnotised me. I wanted him to come and check up on my table every 5 seconds. He made me feel well taken care of and slightly aroused. I wish I could take him home with me, maybe they can put him on the menu next. Overall, loved it! (Will come back for Adel for sure <3)

We had a lovely family lunch (plus dog) at The Crown last Saturday. A really lovely welcoming pub with log fires and gorgeous new decor. We were served by Kingsley who was charming! Service was great, food was fab. Definitely going back soon. Claire

The Crown is a lovely pub with 'olde' style decor and features - internal wooden beams, small door ways, and single glazed windows. While we came in February, the large garden would definitely see us return in the summer. Food wise, it did the job. There were 5 of us having a roast, so I was confused when 3 bowls root veg, and cauliflower cheese came out. Obviously we were to share, but portion wise it seemed small. Each roast is described as coming with a sauce i.e beef came with horseradish cream, chicken with bread sauce, and pork with apple sauce. Alas, they didn't come with anything and when I asked for the horseradish they said it didnt come with it, you have to ask for it - which can't be right. I was given a pot of horseradish in the end - unsure if it's the horseradish cream promoted. Being a Sunday, it was somewhat busy, and it showed on the staff as everyone was a bit stonefaced. Hopefully they cheer up in the summer. I'd recommend coming here for a bite with friends for sure, the place does have quite a historic atmosphere about it and the roast was acceptable. Beyond the roast, there were some tasty looking dishes on the menu which I'd be keen to try.

We held a wake here, the team couldn't have been more helpful. Wonderful setting, gorgeous food, brilliant service. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend! We also came for lunch a couple of weeks ago...the fish and chips superb as was the burger. The refurbishment is gorgeous, lots of different areas to sit and log fires burning. It's a big place but very cosy. We will definitely be back.

Party of 6 plus toddler for Sunday lunch. We were greeted at the door warmly but told we would be squeezed onto our table which isn't really the most welcoming way of introducing the restaurant. Menu was mainly roasts and a few extras, selection was pretty good and what youd want from a nice weekend pub visit. Fish and chips, burgers, pie etc. Prices all over £20 for roasts which is not uncommon for these parts but for that price I was looking forward to something exceptional. The non roast items were frankly astonishingly expensive, £18.50 for a burger and £19 for fish and chips is madness despite how often I see these prices. Staff were very friendly and orders were taken, food took about as long as you would expect for a busy Sunday. I had the pork belly roast, first thing I noticed was the flaccid wilted watercress garnish, both unnecessary and un-appetising. The foundation of a good roast is the potatos. The should be fluffy on the inside, with a good crunchy exterior, neither of which these sad spuds could even dream of. There was no evidence of the accepted gold standard these days of par boiling then roasting in plenty of fat. They were hard, pale, and dry, I've had better for half the price. If a kitchen can't roast a good potato I question whether the chefs know what they're doing or they just don't care. The pork belly was another disappointment. This is a cut that is either pure indulgence or just bad. A good belly should melt in your mouth, you should almost be able to cut it with a spoon, and should be under a crackled skin that shatters on impact. I was served a tough rectangle of pork, fat left flabby and unrendered, and just plain disappointing. This again shows a lack of care as to what was leaving the kitchen as pork belly is incredibly forgiving, all it needs is heat, salt, and time, a long time, and it will reward you with succulence which was sorely missed. The apple sauce that was supposed to come with the pork didn't until I asked for it late into the meal when someone finally checked on us. Mushy peas were also missing from the fish and chips. Additional points of criticism are that children's food was brought out last rather than first which would have been a nice touch, the beautiful bathroom was marred by a tap hanging off its fitting, table being cleared while people were still eating, an electronic tablet was presented to us to give feedback rather than the staff actually talking to us, a long, really long wait before we could get anyone's attention after the mains to request dessert menus, another long wait for the bill, cauliflower cheese was dry and undercooked, arctic roll was hard, child's pizza that looked like they were running out of cheese, grey beef with no hint of pink, I think that's everything. For a pub that has clearly had a huge investment and looks fantastic inside and out, the food and service did not live up to this cozy but classy finish. More attention should be paid to the quality of food than the designer bathroom wallpaper, pure style over substance. I could forgive many of these faults in a pub that charged reasonable rates but this really should have been exceptional, instead it was weatherspoon quality with Michelin prices.

Visited the Crown at Penn today with friends. The roast dinner was very good and the desserts were so beautifully presented. All very delicious. We had such good service from Kingsley nothing was too much trouble. The pub has been beautifully renovated.
