The pub is a little gem and well worth the trip. We found the staff really pleasant and friendly. Very clean throughout definitely no sticky tables which is always a plus. They have a great chef and our food was excellent. I can definitely recommend the sirloin steak and for once it was not over priced under £20 . Definitely worth a visit 10/10

This is a fabulous pub, run by great people with one of the best beer gardens in Devizes. Food and drink is on point and having the outside space is superb for friends and family for a drink after work or the weekend. The outside bar and marquee are welcome edition to offering great service to its customers.

We popped in on the off chance one Monday lunchtime. The pub was very quiet, with only one other table occupied. The sandwiches were very good, as were the chips. I had a fish finger sandwich, unlike any I've had before, small, battered pieces of fish rather than 'fish fingers', which were really tasty.

Visiting Avebury and West Kennett Longbarrow on a drizzly, autumn day and wanted some hot food. Finding the eateries in the town fully booked for several hours we set off looking for food a little further afield and found this hidden gem less than 10 mins drive away. All our requirements fulfilled: dog friendly, gluten free available, plenty of space. The food was delicious for all and the portions are massive! Plus good selection of beers and other drinks. I highly recommend this pub to anyone!

Very comfortable pub with friendly staff and the best sandwiches! I had ham and mustard with two thick slices of probably home cooked ham and my husband had the fish finger sandwich which consisted of two chunks of delicious flaky cod in batter. Both served with fries and salad. Yum!

We often frequent this establishment and i must say the service is quite exceptional, as to be expected considering the prices. We negotiated our way through the queue to the bar where I ordered my usual drink and was promptly given it, however i must say the straw was vastly bigger than necessary. I know this makes me sound like a simpleton but it is very much intended as constructive feedback.

Freshly cooked proper food and lovely staff - all at a reasonable price. I have often thought that the staff make or break a place and it is obvious, as soon as you walk into the Crown, that the young and friendly bar and restaurant staff are genuinely welcoming and care about the place. The Landlord is very present as a traditional 'mine host.' It's an old fashioned term that speaks volumes about the welcome you get from somebody investing in the place and overseeing it so that it runs well. It's not often that you get pub landlords like this anymore - you just get 'bar managers.' Best of all the Chef is the Landlady and so equally invested in the pub, and not just an employee raring to go home. All the food was fresh, copious, and piping hot for an honest bill. You would be hard pushed to find such value for money anywhere else. Long live the Crown!

Campsite superb, bar staff friendly and go out of their way. Would stay here again but I'm afraid i cannot say the same for the food. After several meals here including 4 nights where i had the lamb madras curry which was lovely i was served undercooked rice that was hard, swimming in water. I sent it back and was brought another within a few minutes where I was told the chef had said it was oil not water. It was water as Im a former chef myself, and either had been undercooked and not tested or defrosted. The poppadoms this time were not swimming in oil as they. had been on the other occasions [the first time i was served the curry in the pappaodom which anyone knows renders it soggy and inedible. Thid time thought the pappodomes were cooked fine. After being insulted I then tucked into the second plate of lamb curry, the rice was now mostly missing [I had ordered extra the first time] and was a soggy mush and completely over cooked. I refuse to pay £16.95 for undercooked or overcooked rice. Moreover, i had specifically gone to the pub to eat that. I sent it back again after a short delay the server returned were i was promotpy told the chef says you can have something else. i was appalled, what, the chef cannot cook a fresh batch of rice? The rice had been fine the other 4 occasions id had it and the curry delicious. I said no as nothing else appealed. I had taken my insulin so by now my blood sugar was falling and i was forced to buy. a bag of crisps before heading elsewhere. I got a homemade pie stuffed full of meat fresh veg and mash, for £12 down the road. The chips at lunch were returned as being overcooked and inedible and i witnessed other people sending food back, in one instance twice. If a chef cannot cook simple things like rice, chips or poppadoms or is too lazy to make a fresh batch then shouldnt really be running a kitchen. After spending over £150. on meals and drinks there all week I was disgusted by the shoddy, poor attitude. Didnt return to eat there and wont be again sadly even if the campsite and other staff are lovely. The owners were away, i doubt it would have happened if they. had been around.

The campsite itself was great, although could do with more toilets., but would definitely camp there again. Sadly, the pub food was very disappointing. I ordered the chicken burger, and the burger wasn’t even half the size of the bun it was served in, so it was all roll and a tiny bit of chicken, (and the chicken was over cooked.) The salad it was served with was just a few bits of lettuce, no tomato or anything else. No coleslaw was given with it as advertised on the menu. The Lasagne had clearly been left under a hot lamp for too long, and so the top of it was very dry and hard. Chips were overcooked. The Lemon Tart was not served with Raspberry Sorbet as advertised. The crumble was served with custard, but the amount of custard served in the tiny jug was not even a mouthful, had to ask for more custard. I would not eat here again, very poor food quality, overcooked and very overpriced.

Terrible service and food. Ham, egg and chips were tasteless, not even asked if sauces etc were required. Lasagne had to be sent back, it was dry and looked like it had been about for several days. Had the lamb curry instead, was marginally better. Won't be going back, wouldn't recommend, there are much better places locally to eat out.

At a waterlogged time of year, The Crown was full of warmth and comfort. We wanted a bite to eat at lunchtime before an afternoon walk and had exactly what we wanted. Ham, eggs and chips exactly hit the mark. The ham was exceptional and the helping generous. The beer was just right. The landlady welcomed us and was most friendly, discussing walks with us, providing advice and even fetching some leaflets on walks for us to look at. She also let us use the carpark for the afternoon. This visit and the simple but delicious lunch was one of the highspots of the day. As a family we have eaten Sunday Lunch here many times over the last few years and it has always been excellent. Just before Christmas 2019 the Crown announced they were reverting back to a carvery system in the New Year so we thought we would give it a try. A new Carvery area has been created at the back of the restaurant and the fare on offer is superb. We had a choice of three meats on the day (beef. pork and turkey) and alongside huge Yorkshire puddings there were both roast and boiled potatoes and mountains of veg which you can help yourself to, topped with a rich gravy and all the condiments as well on the side.None of us could fault the meal in any way, it was absolutely excellent, with a first class service to boot as well. To top it all the 6X was rather good from the Wadworths brewery just down the road in Devizes. The Crown really is a hidden gem tucked away in a secluded valley and offers everything a village pub should do. If you live anywhere in Wilts or the surrounding area or happen to be walking or boating down the Kennet & Avon Canal (the pub is a 2 minute walk from the towpath) then this place is well worth a visit.

There's a lovely walk along the canal and then up across the Wansdyke which a friend and I made two weeks ago and decided to go for a well earned drink afterwards at this pub. The Sunday Carvery was better than expected - all the selections were all hot, definitely home made and tasty. The pub was thriving for a Sunday mid afternoon which made for a good atmosphere.I now have an appreciation that the reduced hours this gem of a pub has, is reflected in the quality not the quantity - certainly of hours being open and serving food. Thoroughly recommend this for a Sunday lunch!

Ate here with family recently and whilst the food was ok, was disappointed with certain aspects. The steaks were served with pepper on, which was not described as 'peppered steak' on the menu (we expected plain) - and we didn't want to return them because we didn't want others in the party eating separately whilst this was being changed....so we just put up with it.Also, most of us ordered diet coke, which tasted suspiciously like standard, sugared coke - which was a worry, as one of our party has diabetes, so there was some waste. All in all, the whole experience was less than we expected.

We came here for lunch with my parents. We all felt that with just a little more care we could have had a lovely lunch. Whilst the quality of food was acceptable, the service and attitude was poor. The curry was advertised as being served with a naan bread. However was served with one single poppadom on a side plate, with no word of apology or explanation. We would have expected at least to have been informed or had an apology that the naan was not available, when we questioned we were told that there was no naan bread. It was a quiet Friday lunchtime, surely the chap serving could have explained and offered an alternative. We asked for a discount from the bill, non was offered. The experience left us feeling that the place was lack lustre with no care for serving something different from the menu. Given the price of the food (and we are used to expensive Brighton prices), it’s a shame the service did not meet the quality of the food. There’s too much choice locally for us to want to come back anytime soon. What a shame, that just an apology rather than trying to serve a single poppadom would have made all the difference. Can we suggest that when it’s quiet and menus are given the barman could explain what is or isn’t available.

Ate here last night. Beautiful location in Wiltchire countryside. This is a lovely, well cared for village village pub with welcoming staff and locals. Also very dog friendly.

Looks nice on the outside but dreary inside. Service ok, food poor, bland and uninspiring. Mentioned complaint but it fell of deaf ears. One to miss I'm afraid.

Dropped in for lunch as part of a long MTB trail ride round the Downs. We were first in on a Friday lunch time to find the landlady just writing up the specials board. We couldn't get past the Fish Pie - turned out to be properly home made big chunks of fish, prawns- it was a great choice. Other sandwiches being brought out looked terrific. Don't hesitate!

Four of us visited the Crown for lunch. It was a wise decision! We were greeted with a smile, the beer was good, the food menu extensive mainly featuring traditional pub grub, and the food was first class being well prepared and presented. The portions were large and the price very competitive.

Not our first visit and it won't be our last. A group of us met for dinner and to make plans for an upcoming charity event. We had a great evening, the food was fabulous as usual and the staff lovely, particularly the landlady, Dawn. We had four children with us who had a great time playing on the crazy golf course and then when it got chilly they came inside to play games and munch their way through several bowls of chips! I would definitely recommend a visit to this lovely pub.

After a lovely crisp winters walk along the Ridgeway, my partner and I decided to make the trip out to The Crown on the recommendation of friends - we were not disappointed! On arrival we were warmly welcomed by the landlady Dawn and the glow of an open fire which was just what we needed. The menu was extensive with lots of variety to suit every taste. I chose the lamb shank on the specials board and my partner the pork medallions. Both meals arrived quickly and were excellent - good portions and really well presented. Well worth the trip out and we will definitely be going back to try more of the menu in the future.

We visited The Pancake House as part of a long weekend at Centerparcs, when we also dined at Bella Italia, Huck’s and Cafe Rouge. Value for money was as you would expect where you have a captive audience, but the Pancake House was seriously let down by lacklustre waiting staff, very slow service, really dry pancakes, an omelet that looked like they had reused various chopped up meats and coffee that was undrinkable. By comparison, the other restaurants onsite had lovely staff, great food service and pretty decent food as well. Huck’s was top of my kids’ list.

Pretty mediocre, and hard to find tucked away behind the Holiday Inn.

We have been to eat here many time's over the years, which have been good, this time was not a good experience, Friday 18th October, 4.30pm . The place was not busy when arrived, got seated, ordered food, when food came, it looked good but all was lukewarm, loaded chips very salty so didn’t eat all, tried to get waiting staff attention with no joy staff members standing together chatting(male staff) except for two young girls who seemed to be doing all the work. We did not get checked on which is not good, problem with food could have been corrected. Tips: Most people will be happy to wait an extra 15 mins to have hot food. Staff need to work as team. Check on your customers.
