We stopped here for a drink outside to relax and admire the harbour a few days ago. After seeing the food other customers ordered, we decided to return today for lunch. The pub has a lovely traditional feel and we were made to feel welcome. The food was excellent quality, well presented and delicious. The menu was varied and there is something to suit everyone, even our fussy teenager. Highly recommend.

I am appalled. First off the food was good but it took ages to get to our table. That's ok. But me and my nan left to the loo and they told our food away we weren't even done! The toilets were also disgusting 🤢🤢.

The food is mediocre at best, as others have stated, it’s not fresh and at £19 a meal expensive. Even worse is the barman, incredibly rude and curt to the point of being offensive. He has zero social skills and shouldn’t be behind a bar. Avoid as there are alternatives a stones throw away.

Well what can I say about this fabulous pub. We had our dinner there yesterday and it was so nice we decided to go back for lunch and have the Cullen Skink. Unfortunately they had sold out but thank goodness they were in the process of cooking some more. We had a couple of drinks and waited patiently for it to be ready. I’m so glad we did as it was absolutely delicious. Staff were lovely and friendly. Service was very good. Well worth a visit. Five stars from us. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Stopped their today for a pint and something g to eat. Seafood Pancake, Scampi and Scallops were the three mains. Unfortunately no crab was available. Scampi plentiful and my wife liked the pancake. My scallops were ok but thought they could have been presented better. Overall a decent meal though, a little pricey but isn’t most things these days. Would recommend the scampi.

Mains are £17 across the board - or more. Where's the £9-12 on Tripadvisor here come from?. We drove a long way - another venue almost next door won't take cash so we came here - we had no energy to walk or drive elsewhere. Nothing special food wise or venue wise. I've got little change from £50 for a soup, sausage and mash, and a dressed salad with two soft drinks. If we weren't in a tourist trap we'd be at the £30-£40 range. A traditional, ie antiquated pub, that needs a clean. Stunk of smoke(rs) inside.

Stopped here for lunch after a morning of crabbing. Staff we so friendly and approachable. Checking Gluten Free options for Coeliac Disease was no trouble. Chef even offered more alternatives than what was on the main menu. The food was fresh, hot, and plentiful. Highly recommended and will visit again.

Despite the negative reviews, I booked a table for 4 on Tuesday and we received a polite confirmation email a couple of hours later. We were welcomed at the pub bar and told how to access the restaurant, where we were greeted and shown straight to our table. It was very quiet, the staff were very polite and attentive. We ordered venison casserole, burgers and steak in Yorkshire pudding, followed by ice cream, cheesecake and a liqueur coffee. All of it was delicious and the portions were huge! The price of drinks was pretty average and to be honest for the amount of food I think the prices were fair. We'd definitely love to come back. Why not try it for yourselves. I'd recommend the place 😊

Visited here with my partner for a birthday meal. Ordered drinks and I could see a lot of people were leaving their food I had read reviews but thought we will try it can't be that bad. Looking at the menu not much choice I would say and very over priced. I decided not to get anything my partner said I will have the cheese burger and chips. Chips were homemade I think but hard and the burger my partner said he would rather eat the sole on his boot would probably taste better. I did have a bite and could hardly chew it at all. Like I say very overpriced and not at all good. We did return for a few drinks but I would not eat here again. An American woman was complaining about her meal the next day when we went I don't no what it was but it looked like yellow vomit in a bowl

Had a meal at The Crown last weekend. We booked a table in the restaurant which was a good idea because the bar area was mobbed. My wife had chilli beef wrap with chips and salad and I had the haggis tower with a gravy sauce. Both mains were very good and at £15.95 each, it was good value for money. The service was excellent as well. We will definitely eat at The Crown on our next visit to Portpatrick.

I think that the acid test of an organisation is about how they respond when things go wrong. On Tuesday my friend and I had a good lunch in The Crown. I then ordered coffee for us both. I expressly asked for decaffeinated coffee for my friend as she has a health issue. When it arrived my friend felt that it was not decaffeinated. When I queried it at the bar I was told that it was decaffeinated but a few minutes later the most senior member of staff came over, explained the problem and provided a cup of real decaffeinated coffee. Hats off for honest customer service. 👏👏👏

Popped in for a late lunch / early dinner in passing and had a lovely meal. I had the main course size Cullen skink which was really yummy and filling, and my husband had the scampi which he really enjoyed as well, the homemade chips were also really good. Overall a really tasty meal, and would be happy to return (we weren't sure about trying this place due to the mixed reviews but glad we did). Also, the Crown is dog friendly which was great so we could bring our puppy in with us. Staff were friendly and quick service too, even though the place was really busy. Bonus was getting to watch the gorgeous sunset from our table.

Went to the crown as on passing I saw the Seafood awards it had received. So was looking forward to it. Unfortunately the food was really below average. I paid £8.00 for a boiled ham sandwich that was less quality than I would send my kids to school with. Basically two slices of bread cut into triangles…. Not worth the money at all. Cullen Skink was ok… nothing award winning about it. Overall an expensive Meal and it was seriously nothing special. Will give it a miss next time. Over priced and underwhelming

Nothing really wrong but had two variable experiences. Went for dinner on two occasions during a recent 3 night stay in the town. The first time the bar person made us feel welcome, explained how to order and where to find tables etc. We were impressed by the extensive menu, choosing venison casserole and mackerel quiche, both were excellent, waiting staff attentive without being intrusive. The second time the restaurant was busier and this maybe contributed to a reduced level of customer care. The good bar person from previous visit was not in. We waited at restaurant door for some time before a member of staff approached us. Tables were marked as reserved but they removed one of these markers to seat us. No-one turned up for the other reserved tables while we were there. Husband ordered pork loin from the specials and I had Cumberland sausage. Both were OK and sauce with pork loin was excellent, gravy with sausage should have had redcurrants in it but I didn't detect any. Vegetables served on a separate plate, is this really necessary? We were impressed with them having Moretti on draft and enjoyed this with our meals. The first experience of dining was better than second but would still return.

I ordered the Cullen Skink dish as a main meal with 2 rolls, I expected more smoked haddock and leaks in the dish. There were plenty of sliced potatoes in the bowl, but only 5/6 15mm cubes of fish and tiny shreds of leak. Back in August I enjoyed a hearty seafood pancake with fresh veg that I couldn't finish.

Came across the Crown today on our trip to Portpatrick and ordered 2 fish and chip meals and a portion of chips to take away (as we had dogs to go home too) 20 minutes later (not too long a wait) the three small boxes came out with tiny portions inside and looked so unappetising. The children meal cost £9 and was a tin of Heinz macaroni and refried chips. It went back as it was inedible and a rip off in cost. Also the prices of a cheese and ham roll was £14 just felt ripped off for a small village in Scotland. Appalling for the tourism trade in this part of the world.

Sadly the food was very expensive. We ordered the cod and chips at nearly £18 and two haddock quiches at £16 each. The cod was ok but the quiches were supposed to come with their own chips. A single bowl of chips was bought out 'to share' but was in no way two portions. When we asked for extra chips we were told that we would need to go the bar to order them. Really not the quality nor service you would expect for those prices. Luckily our trip to Portpatrick was salvaged by some lovely coffee and cake at the Port Pantry just round the corner. Wish we'd had our whole meal there as the food looked amazing.

We had dinner in the restaurant at the rear of the lounge bar area and it was busy, but the service was great. The very large pancake/crepe was stuffed with salmon, small prawns, haddock and possibly cod. The creamy wine sauce complimented the stuffed pancake with a little roasted cheese on top and couldn't manage the potato and broccoli side dish. My wife had the Tomato Spiced Chicken and Chorizo Tagliatelle dish off the specials menu and was equally impressed.

Looked busy and we could see a couple of good looking meals. However it was hard to find anyone nice to sit inside as it was quite smelly, lots of kids and tables packed too close together. We sat outside where at least the air was fresh. We noticed it was expensive £17.95 for scampi/ fish and chips but it was a one off. When they meals arrived they were massively disappointing. I got a tiny piece of fish and underdone chips. The small pot of coleslaw was the cheapest shop bought stuff and actually tasted off ( hanging round a warm kitchen I bet). My sons fish was the same. He ordered peas and it came with a small spoons worth of tinned processed peas. Mum ordered gammon sandwich on white bread. Made with cheapest white sliced bread. Had a garnish with an orange slice that was black on the peel. Few chips in a big bowl. All in all an embarrassing lunch. No one came to ask if everything was ok and what can you say really if they are happy to serve that sort of standard and charge those prices.

Fantastic place to stay. The room was great and reasonably priced. Breakfast was good quality and delicious. The staff were friendly. For me the highlight was the scallops and lobster I had for an evening meal. They were fresh, delicious and generous. I can’t recommend...

Main hours was OK. Coffee was tepid and we had to wait a long long time for dessert My sticky toffee pudding was still cold in the middle so couldn't eat it. I did mention this when I was paying but no apology. Will probably...

A party of 4 of us and we were not impressed! The scallop starter was way overpriced for the 3 scallops, hard bacon and some lettuce leaves. The smallest scallops and not well cooked. The cod was served with bland veg including turnip - a...

Good value food and came out hot and fairly quickly. Burger and chips was huge! Where we sat was a bit dark and very little distance between seats which would be a little too cosy if very busy. Altogether a good experience.

We had a nice dinner in the bar. My wife had mussels which were good, and I had the local pheasant which was I was very happy with. The pâté appetizer was very good. Service was friendly. For bar food, was excellent.

Yummy food, as always! Friendly staff and general all round great visit. Even the in-laws enjoyed the food with the only “complaint” being there were to many chips! Definitely not a complaint, just an excuse for us to help finish them. This was our 3rd...

Today we visited and as it was a Sunday i decided on a chicken dinner, big mistake.Where do i start?Chicken was very dry and not hot, roast potatoes were small and hard, carrots were raw, parsnips were rock hard and had a bitter taste.Mash was tasteless and cauliflower cheese had a vague taste of cheese. The peas and yorkshire were ok but the latter was very small. My gravy was lukewarm so they kindly heated it till it was more like molten lava!I had to ask for napkins as apparently us customers cannot be trusted to use the dispensers!I wouldn't advise anyone to eat here, had an upset stomach all afternoon.

We had 6x rooms booked for wedding including the Ash suite paid extra for family and guests fur a wedding the Ash suite there was no hot water for bath and patio doors blowing open and rattling all night. There where still gift left in cupboard from 60th party. We booked 2x dressing gowns and slippers and put on our bill but where not allowed to take them.rang reception said no hot water and attitwas couldn't care less re water or patio doors they also explained not to take dressing gowns as did not belong to hotel.. Reception staff very cold and uncaring it seen they have had your money and not bothered we where a small party for wedding but should be treated as well as a 200 party not looked down on like something they stood in .the ceremony at the gretna Anville was amazing couldn't fault it fool if laughter and fun but also very professional by all concerned even the piper was outstanding the meal was lovely but very very slow booked for2.30 started gone 3 two course took 2houes ..then had to chase staff for clearing tables as everyone was getting bored by the time we got to coffee and shortbread which was extra there was only 6 at the table

I have reviewed this Restaurant as part of the Galloway Arms Hotel, so this will hopefully clarify the earlier reviews. We have been on a number of occasions since the last review and we have not been disappointed with the food at the Nine Mile Bar & Bistro within The Galloway Arms Hotel. On this visit we chose two times Two Course Specials priced at £14.50 each. The Starters were battered Chicken Goujons, which was quite a large portion and Tempura coated Prawns. Both dishes were very good and the Chicken alone would have been enough for my Wife as a main course. (Small Eater). My Wife had the Beef Stroganoff and I had the Salmon in Dill sauce for the main courses. Normally, we tend to have just the main courses and therefore we had to take home the chips, which were provided along with the Stroganoff half & half. A pint of Moretti is £3.50 and a large Chardonnay is £5.00 and the total bill without tip came to £37.50. The surroundings in the Hotel's main bar is simple, but cozy. A 10 minute drive from Dumfries gets you to this Hotel and I think that it is worth this very small effort.More

Great atmospheric diner...very retro and great coffee. Good choice of ice cream and attentive staff...loved the old fashioned style.
