Beware the lrice of soft drinks, used to do a pint of coke now its a can of coke, £3.50+ I dont mind restuarants making money but 800% mark up on a can is bloody disgusting. I wont be going back until you stop treating customers as cash cows, be like America and offer free refills, you charge enough

This Chinese restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel. We liked the variety on the menu and our food was hot, tasty and was served within a reasonable timescale. Our server May was very friendly and we had an very enjoyable, relaxing meal. Our measure is always - would we wish to return to the restaurant and would we recomend this restaurant to family and friends. The answer is yes!

First time here in years to sit and eat, but have had takeaways. It was heaving at 7pm. Which I thought was a good sign. The restaurant hadn’t changed inside for over 20 years, and is in dire need of a refurb, it smelt very musty, and they had crammed tables in. The starters were awful, over cooked and not freshly made. A few of the main obscure dishes we chose were good and seemed freshly cooked, but others I felt were cooked and stuck on a warming plate or something. The staff were very busy, and it was manic so service wasn’t good, staff seemed bad tempered. They are obviously coining it in cash wise, so why not spend some of that money on updating the restaurant and taking it back to a pleasant experience with less tables. I felt it was ‘more tables, more customers, more cash.’ Would not eat there again.

It's hard to find a good Chinese restaurant that you can sit down in these days, this is one of those rare gems. Parking is sometimes a squeeze (especially at the weekends) and they don't open on Mondays for lunch but we regularly go for a lunch later in the week and it's normally quiet and the service is generally very good. Most people opt for the buffet menu, which is not a traditional buffet menu (as we think of it). You order what you want (within reason) from the available starters, they are then cooked so all the food is freshly prepared and made. If you have a healthy appetite, then you can order more starters once the first round has been eaten (again and again). Next comes a choice of crispy lamb or crispy duck (it's always the duck), with all the normal extras. Much like the starters, you then order your main courses and if you have finished what you have ordered you can order some more. I'm not a fan of the wine list; really could do with updating. To be honest the drinks are not as high a quality as the food, but you can get the usual spirits and mixers and soft drinks.

Normally we have been pleased with our order and friendly staff when ordering, however our last few orders have not been so good. As one was on Christmas Eve with items missing we put it down to time of year however yesterday we had ordered chicken balls, in the bag we had a few chicken balls and some kind of fish ones, did not taste like prawns so we threw them away. As Chinese is not cheap these are becoming expensive errors for the customer, driving back is not always an option so check your bags before you leave. Otherwise the quality has been fine.

We visited Crown City late last year, I am only posting this now as it still really bothers (and shocks) me how poorly the situation was dealt with. We don’t live far from Crown City and visited a few times, on this occasion it was a treat for my mother’s birthday and my 4 year old was also in attendance – we went for the all you can eat on Sunday, as always we were enjoying the food. We had ordered a second round of starters when I noticed a long black hair on one of the chicken skewers (luckily my son had originally picked it up but as he already had one on his plate I removed it when I noticed the hair)Hair in food is never great but it does happen …. It was how it was handled that has led me to write this review and never re-visit! My Mum called over the waitress and advised of the long black hair now placed on the table (I am blonde as is my Mum, and son) we told the waitress about the hair expecting the usual apology and replacement of food – instead she twirled the hair around her fingers, (YUK) looked at me and said ‘but it is ginger’ and then burst into laughter??? I was, at this point shocked but perhaps this could be put down to poor humour??????? Either way we didn’t laugh in response and advised we are not ginger and the long black hair was in fact found in our food! She took the hair away but left the food on the table without any further apology and needless to say, no replacement?Usually I would not complain abut food and remain in the restaurant but not wanting to cause a fuss on a birthday outing for my Mum and also knowing we would be able to leave and go somewhere else with my 4 year old we continued with the meal (after all the food is nice but we were left feeling very strange about what had happened) At the end of the meal we was given the bill with no deductions ….. or apology, it was as though it didn’t happen??Like I said hair in food, although not nice does happen but it is how an establishment handles it that really says a lot and I feel calling me ginger whilst having a good giggle, with no apology or at the very least removing the soiled food is completely unacceptable.

Recommended here by a neighbour as our more local Chinese has gone down hill sadly. Was pleasantly surprised at the taste - all dishes tasted flavoursome and different to each other (not always a given in takeaways!).They also amended some dishes for our preference. One suggestion would be to please add some dishes onto the menu which are vegan - I was able to do it myself (made a tofu pad Thai) but would be great if these were labelled on the menu. Also delivery for takeaway would obviously be great!

We like the food here and often grab a takeaway. Today I am writing about he Sunday buffet. This is not the first time we have been for the buffet menu and have always been very happy. I am very sad to report that the lady serving our table was offhand with us from the very beginning. We were given a drinks menu and a young lady took our drinks order, leaving the drinks menu with us as we were reading it. Then our waitress arrived and asked if we would like drinks. We told her our order had been taken. She then with a cross voice replied " Well why do you still have the drinks menu then" as if we had done something wrong. This attitude continued all evening. we asked for some more Prawn Crackers and she told us if we wanted more we would have to pay extra. This was the buffet all inclusive menu, it made no sense, we could have ordered more beef dishes which would have been free. Previously had no problem with extra Prawn crackers. The Lady spoiled our evening. The food however was delicious.

Decent Chinese restaurants are thin on the ground in our part of Kent, and we always find Chinese take aways disappointing. This restaurant had been recommended and we are pleased we went. The Sunday set menu allows you to choose starters, followed by Peking duck with pancake, spring onions etc and then a choice of mains with rice or noodles. There were four of us so we each chose, which gave a variety. You are asked if you would like more starters or main courses (once you've finished) so we couldn't resist more crispy chilli beef which was delicious. We all had ample to eat and were able to choose exactly what we fancied. Best of all my 98 year old mother, who is very difficult to please, continued to mention how much she had enjoyed it for several days!

After a busy Friday we couldn't be bothered to cook, so we decided to try the Crown City, a Chinese restaurant and take away in a repurposed pub on the A26 on the outskirts of Wateringbury. There is a large car park and good level access to the main restaurant, and a waiting area set off to one side for those collecting take away food. We ordered at 7.30pm and were told that the meal would be ready for collection in 40 minutes. Upon arrival I paid and the food arrived within seconds. We started with butterfly prawns, coated in a good crunchy overcoat, followed by possibly the hottest Singapore noodles I have ever had (but nonetheless not overly hot), a vegetable Chow Mein, Kung Po prawns and fillet steak in a peppercorn sauce. The prawns were perfectly cooked and coated in a good batter, and the steak had been shown to the wok as it passed through the kitchen, just how we both like it. A goodly portion of prawn crackers finished off the meal. The staff that we dealt with were all friendly and helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant for those seeking good Chinese and east Asian food.

They don't deliver and that's always a good sign. The place is always packed, so if you do want to sit down please book as they always seem maxed out with customers. Always order ahead when getting the takeaway too - although if you do wait in the foyer, they bring out prawn crackers and you can have a drink if you want from the bar. I wouldn't get Chinese takeaway from anywhere else!

The staff were shouting at each other across the restaurant. Phone was constantly ringing and there was a lot of people waiting for take out. Our waitress changed part way through, her service had a lot to be desired. She was rude and abrupt, efficiency was not her strong point when prompted about the drink that I ordered some 20 mins prior her response was they were busy no apology given. By 8.30pm we hadn’t been served our main when we questioned it after a altercation between the waitresses we were told it would be another 20 mins at least. So we decided to leave never to return on a Saturday again. The service was very broken tonight.

Had a takeaway with friends- only second time I have eaten from there and will not again- so disappointing. Each dish was filled with so much veg there was little else- we counted 6 king prawns in a main course, chow mein was more bean sprout and onion than noodle and sadly the prawn toast was inedible - soft, undercooked looking and tasted wrong - don’t think I have ever thrown so much food away. The first time experience the noodles were badly burnt - but at least was more noodle than not- made allowances for off day but not 2 off days. Will be sticking to Wai Yin in Wateringbury as far superior quality and better prices. 2 stars because 2 of the dishes were nice and acceptable content (of 11 dishes total).

The food here is always really good. Can be quite expensive but the set menu is quite good and the Sunday buffet style is really good value for money. The restaurant does look a little tired though.

We ordered Chicken and cashews in yellow bean sauce, crispy beef, smoked shredded chicken and crispy seaweed as a takeaway. The food was delicious and at £20 we thought it was great value for money. It's definitely the best Chinese food in the Maidstone area.

Rang to book all u can eat buffet for Saturday at 12pm . As they close at 2.30 They then said they are open all day So I booked a bit later 2pm All good until Saturday when they rang to say are we still coming at 2pm as they close at 2.30 !!!!!We were then told could come at 5.30 when they open so we did. But no buffet a la cart only , not impressed at all , We were going to leave but had been looking forward to a Chinese all day , We were given a free drink and the food was good so sort of made up for it ,But the service was not great clearing some of our plates even though we had not all finished . Not a smile from any of the staff who spent a lot of time just standing watching for you to finish , Very of putting . May try again just because the food was good but not sure

We ordered our takeaway and waited whilst it was supposedly being " freshly cooked" What a joke! The Sesame Prawn Toast managed the seemingly impossible feat of being burnt and slimy at the same time. £4.90 The Sweet & Sour Prawns ( Hong Kong Style) were burnt to a crisp and the accompanying pot of sauce would probably be an effective drain cleaner if you ran out of Domestos. £6.70The King Prawns with Asparagus ( a total of 6 Prawns and a few scraps of sprue) were swamped by lots of almost raw white onion, limp shreds of Spring Onion, and, most worryingly, slices of carrot which were obviously slices of the carved vegetable sculptures they use to decorate tables and dishes served in the eat-in restaurant.. I'm against food waste, but I don't want to eat the contents of someone else's recycling efforts when I'm paying top prices. This mess cost the same as the Sweet and Sour Prawns. The Special Fried Rice was, despite being served at home within 10 minutes of the order being assembled and packed, a congealed turgid block of assorted scraps, which was deeply unpleasant both to the eye and the tastebuds. £4.50.Total cost for 2 plates of disappointment £22.80.Even the free Prawn Crackers were soggy and stale. This miserable excuse for Chinese food was an absolute rip-off.Needless to say, we won't be using their takeaway again!I'd sooner do without their Chinese cuisine if this is the best they can do.

We are local to this Chinese. We just collected a very poor takeaway. Poorly cooked and cheap ingredients. We don't use this place a lot now because this seems to be the norm.

Flew down from Aberdeen for a catch up with mates and for my sisters 50th at Crown City. The staff were aware that our arrival was a surprise and went along with the plan. They hid me and my partner until my sister arrived. We ordered from the a la carte menu. Everything was fresh, well cooked and very tasty. The duck pancakes, sizzling seafood and the dumplings were fantastic.Service was at the right pace. We arrived at 5pm and left at 9.30pm. We did not feel rushed or hassled in anyway.Really good night out and at reasonable prices for the quality

Short drive from Maidstone. The staff make a lot of effort to make you feel welcome. I have been quite critical of Chinese food that tastes out of a sweet and sour tin before, but all this food was really nice, tasted fresh and original. Yummy! Would definitely recommend! Especially the tea smoked shredded chicken for a starter.

The food was fine, set meals starting at £21pp. The bad news was a 10% service charge, but also that ALL drinks were bottles only. A large lime/soda turned out to cost £8 (4 bottles at £2 a pop), so our moderate drinks consumption ended up costing more then the food. There was also a large party present with unruly small kids that insisted on running back and forward through the restaurant without being checked on a Saturday night. A bit scary when they bump into waiters carrying sizzling hot food past you.

We booked for 15 people for our sons 18th Birthday celebration. Family and friends. Saturday night. The staff were very accommodating and happy to discuss the menu in advance with us to ensure that our evening was the best that they could offer. They were very honest and open with us, stating that they only had two chefs and that for us to ensure the food all came out together, especially as it would be a busy night and we were a large party, a set menu the same for each of us would be the best option. There were items on their set menu that would not suit some of our party and the staff were so lovely at assisting us with some slight amendments to suit both us and the restaurant. We were allowed to decorate the table and the staff were happy to sort out the cake that we brought. Lighting the candles and bringing to the birthday boy after the meal finished. Providing plates, cutlery and a knife to cut it. The food was plentiful, really delicious and each person enjoyed their meal. The timing of the gaps between each course was perfect for us. Allowing our food to go down and also time to socialise. The staff were attentive and regularly cleared empty glasses etc from the table. It was a memorable night and one made so by the venue. The cost is perfectly acceptable and in line with what you would expect from a Chinese restaurant. They were happy to provide free tap water. I would definitely recommend and if you are a larger party visiting for a special occasion, do not feel shy in discussing the event with them in advance to get the best experience. They can only do so much as they are not a large establishment but they are so willing to try their very best.

The staff were absolutely terrible, zero respect to their customers at all! Almost laughable, she took our food order and was so sarcastic and rude she rolled her eyes constantly and I watch on another table a lady ordered Chinese tea and the waitress laughed in her face, it was so strange to watch such terrible service! Very expensive aswell! Will definitely not be returning!!

Went for supper. Ordered what should be fairly easy fare for a competent chinese restaurant. Wonton soup was ok but pricey given the quantity provided. Cantonese duck and Cantonese pork are dishes that if you have them available in the kitchen require nil preparation. You literally chunk them up and put them on a plate. They had the dishes on the menu but clearly not in the kitchen. What they served up was not recognisable as either Cantonese pork or Cantonese duck. If you have the money for petrol go to Soho instead. This is over priced food not particularly well prepared. The service isnt brilliant either.

Would give it 4 star for the food, but service very dissapointing. Food is great, but you maybe in for a wait if the take away side of their business is busy. We arrived at 6.45. starters came nice and quickly, then had to wait over half an hour for our next course ( and there were only 2 other tables busy in the restaurant.).

This restaurant is a large welcoming building looking particularly nice when adorned with Christmas decorations. We were the only ones in as they had just opened at 5.30pm. and it was our first visit. We had sizzling fillet steak in black pepper sauce, chicken and mixed vegetables, a portion of chips and egg fried rice. To drink a glass of red wine, Chinese beer and J20. Prawn crackers were served first by the attentive staff who showed us a video of an Elvis impersonator who appears there sometimes. A Chinese Elvis? Mind boggles! But he looked good and it's packed out apparently. So the food was delicious - the steak was a real taste sensation! But the main courses were served on side plates - possibly to disguise the small portions I wonder? The chicken was very nice but once again not much of it. Rice and chips were £3.50 odd each, and service charge is added to the bill. Because we were still hungry we decided to have toffee banana fritters with ice cream to share. This was super light crispy batter around fluffy banana in toffee sauce with vanilla ice cream - just lovely. The bill came to £41.00 which seemed expensive considering the amount of food actually served. But it tasted delicious and the staff were friendly. By the time we left the room was filling up and the Friday before Christmas no doubt was going to be hugely busy.We shall probably go again, but I think we shall choose the buffet so that we won't be hungry!
