Chopsticks and Bowl in Maidstone

Overall it’s a good Chinese take away and restaurant. The food is generally pretty good and it isn’t overpriced. Occasionally, I’ve had a few minor issues when ordering, but the guys always make things right when there’s a mix up. It’s probably the best Chinese restaurant I’ve had in the whole of Maidstone. The bar around the town is generally pretty low, but I do like ordering here and will continue to go back. Thanks for all our orders over the last couple of years since living in the area!

I have been here many times, initially with my partner who sadly died, then her father who again recently passed away. The staff particularly Wendy are so friendly and caring. I will try and visit again but it's hard alone Thank you all xxxx

Very disappointing. We were actually looking for a replacement for The Jasmine Garden; this won't be it. Soft shell crab to start, were OK. But then the rest of the order came up all together with no table heater, so within minutes everything had grown cold. No-one else was there, so lacked any atmosphere. The food was mediocre. The mixed seafood selection at £15.00 was unpleasant and dominated by squid. All the meal was like something straight out of a supermarket packet. In particular, very, very annoying is that the so called 'crispy' duck, was just small chunks of duck meat with fatty un-crisp skin! Maybe I should complain to Trades Description! This particular un-crisp dish seems to be an increasingly common problem with Chinese restaurants now. We would never go back. A waste of calories and cash £80 + Access to the restaurant is up a flight of steep stairs. Not good for elderly or disabled.

Ordered Chinese two hours later nothing. Shambles of a place. Food when we’ve had it previously was ok. Without service this place is very reliant on being the only option.

We asked the waitress if the Thai Green Curry was spicy and was told that it wasn’t. This was extremely spicy and we could not eat it. The crispy duck was not crispy instead fatty skin without any duck meat. Complained to the waitress who said that the kitchen was busy !!! A lady manager came over and was very rude and said that Thai Green Curry is always spicy, when we advised we were told the waitress she said it wasn’t and started raising her voice. She also said that Duck is fatty and that is the way it is, we said there was no duck meat just fatty skin and again she raised her voice and wasn’t interested. Absolutely awful customer service and food. It’s s shame it used to be excellent service and food.

Another lovely meal at the Chopstick & Bowl. service from the staff is second to none and all for a very reasonable price. Will definitely be visiting again. 😊

The only place in Kent so far I’ve found Cantonese style char Sui. It’s excellent.

This chinese is the localist best one I've had in ages! And I've been to plenty of ones but this one is pretty special and filling for a generous portion! I'd highly recommend it! Very yummy! 10/10. ^^

Takeaway Chinese. Not much to add. Good service. To my taste the food lacked seasoning (salt). But I liked that it was ready for collection when we arrived.

Lovely mid week meal in the restaurant at the Chopstick & Bowl. Mixed Hors D'oeuvre starter was delicious with lovely big ribs, prawn toast, spring rolls, satay chicken and crispy seaweed. Everyone enjoyed their mains and the bottle of riesling was good and well priced. Hadn't been here for years but will definitely come again soon.

Nice food but very small portions. Crispy chilli beef was exceptionally small, not even half a tub. ☹️ 1st time using as just moved to village so bit disappointing.

Best Chinese for miles around. Take away and eat in restaurant and reasonably priced. I went with my husband and I will most definitely be going back. The ribs are amazing! All the food is fresh and tasty. The staff are friendly and Happy I can't rate the place enough 5 star service

Was the best Chinese restaurant/takeaway for a 20 mile radius for decades. My parents used to do a 40 mile round trip to go here in the 1970’s. Was good until about 2015. Now always get orders wrong. Staff not bothered and very rude. Food is now well below average. I’ve now lived in Lenham 23 years, and frequented the restaurant/takeaway on a weekly basis. I’ll never go there again. Crap food and Incompetent and rude staff. It’s really such a shame that restaurant has gone so down hill. I mean, really down hill ! Avoid !!!!!

Nice food but takeaway area is seriously drab and outdated. It hasn't changed for many years and in dire need of a modern update.

Despite variable reviews, we still have faith in Chopsticks & Bowl restaurant and we were not disappointed with our meal or the service. My advice is don't just rely on the reviews and try it out.

We decided to try a different restaurant as the one we used previously had changed chef and was not as good. Sadly we won’t be using chopsticks and bowl again either. The food was average at best, tasted as if it was full of sugar and salt. It is by no mean awful but just did not taste as fresh as I know Chinese / Cantonese food can be. Very average

Just phoned to confirm a booking for an anniversary, only to be told the Boss decided to shut the restaurant. As this booking was made three weeks ago, where was the phone call telling us not to turn up. Some poor chap in takeaway had to struggle to explain. Such a shame that such a good restaurant is run by such bad management. Have thrown away all their menus and wont be returning. Have ordered a takeaway from somewhere else. Absolutely disgusting.

It’s a while since I’ve been but it won’t be long until next time. The food was very good & really friendly service too.Excellent balue all round.

Ordered by phone tonight nears eve. Was it would be half hour. Got to had to wait a further 45 minutes But boy the wait was worth it The best Chinese iv ever had. Definitely will visit the restaurant

Very Very good food and service

We’ve visited twice. The first time the service and food was lovely - in fact the portions were so big and delicious we had a table full of recommendations from the waiters and throughly enjoyed it. The second time we decided to bring family back with us. The service was absolutely shocking. The woman who was taking orders was extremely rude and disrespectful to customers. Once customers requested her meat was cooked more thoroughly and the waitress proceeded to shout at her and then involve other customers which was really appalling. Although the food was okay, it definitely ruined the moment. It’s based on that experience we wouldn’t go back. I’d hoped it was an isolated incident but looking at other reviews, I’m not sure it is. There was plenty of staff around, perhaps this server is better back of house.

We had a delicious meal today, with the wonderful service we expect. Our Sizzling Griddled Prawns in garlic butter was sensational, such a great blend of tastes and textures. Terrific value for the cost and the service was as efficient, friendly and faultless as always. Always a pleasure here.

Great food and great service. My partner and I are always driving past this restaurant and finally decided to give it a try. We arrived very late on a Friday evening (9pm) and was greeted by a lovely man, food arrived very quick and tasted great. The gentlemen who served us was brilliant extremely polite and gracious.

I got food for me and my mum as a early birthday treat for her as we injoy this as a treated, horrible chicken in the roast chicken Chinese style over cooked and tough. Very disappointed. Total waste of my money unlikely I will order from here in the near future.

After friends telling us how good this was we had a takeaway. As you can see by the two stars it was not very good. Will not be using it again

Was giving a tour of the local village to a friend who has recently moved to the area when we spotted the restaurant appeared open. We thought this was fantastic considering we didn't expect this, given it was a bank holiday. Upon enquiring if we could book a table, it was explained to us the restaurant wasn't actually open, however they were kind enough to open the restaurant up just for us, a fantastic experience and reaffirms my opinion that the service here is amazing and the staff outstanding. Our complements to the lady who served us and the chef for both taking the time out to feed us, we're very grateful. Highly recommend this restaurant, the food is fantastic!

Not had a takeaway from here for a while and was not disappointed. Really nice food at a reasonable price. Spare ribs were good along with the chicken Chow mien, seaweed and crispy fried beef. Will be returning.

Had a meal with friends while on holiday in the area. Firstly, we were looked after like VIPs by Anna she couldn't have done any more for us. The food was outstanding one of the best Chinese meals I've every had. Thank you & we'll definitely be back next time we are in the area.

Wonderful meal at this great restaurant last evening. Our Steamed Sea Bass was sumptuous and so skilfully filleted for us at the table by the waitress who was very busy but took such care with everyone’s orders.

Food was hot fresh and clean tasting, stayed hot even when we drove home, just a few chips in curry sauce an rice for kids and a couple of pancake rolls,they were excellent full of prawns,big bamboo shoots chrispy filo,and sliced pork peices ,haven't been in for a sit down meal in years but very tempted after tonight's quickie takeaway

As it’s the only Chinese restaurant in Lenham village. And it’s a captive clientele. All I can say is!!. I wanted to wipe my feet when I left. And I would rather travel back to SE London. To get a good Chinese. I will not be going back ☹️☹️☹️☹️

Although we live locally, it is a long time since we patronised the Chopsticks and Bowl. But we had heard that the restaurant had changed hands, and decided to try a takeaway (the restaurant being closed due to lockdown). Our telephoned order was ready for collection in about 15 minutes - appropriate social distancing measures were in place - the portions were generous, and the food was excellent.We shall be back!

We had takeout set meal. Considering how wonderful freshly cooked Chinese food can be it wasn’t great but filled a hole after a day walking in hills.

Lovely food but very slow service. Queued up to order, got to the front of the queue and waited over fifteen minutes and was ignored five times whilst they answered the phone orders instead of taking my order. Was tempted to walk out and place a phone order. Would've been quicker service. Fatastic food though.

Chopsticks and Bowl in beautiful medieval Lenham, has had a superb reputation for excellent chinese fare for decades.They have a very popular take away downstairs and a spacious comfortable restaurant upstairs. We've used both on numerous occasions in the past 30 years and never been disappointed.This visit we were given a lovely table near to their AMAZING saltwater marine tank, which currently has a wonderful selection of the most beautiful marine fish, small and large that you could wish for. Just mesmerizing ! We also had a lazy susan which is always useful, especially if you're sharing dishes which we were.We ordered a selection of starters and mains including their delicious prawn dim sum (dumplings); satay chicken; crispy aromatic duck and a noodle dish. Then three ice creams and a toffee banana for desserts. Yum yum YUM !The service was outstanding as always and the food came quickly. The dim sum will always take about 10 minutes which they warn you about but that's more than fine !Being my birthday we got a 10% discount off the food bill, which was a pleasant bonus.We'd booked the table for 6.30 to 7pm but didn't arrive until 7.30 unfortunately but they were absolutely fine about it. We'd highly recommend Chopsticks and Bowl to everyone !

Phoned up ordered a takeaway was told half hour went there after half hour was busy but expected to wait another 15mins to be told it would be another 45 min to hour wait. The amount of people phoning for takeaways whilst I was there that were told half hour was a joke. I hope they are not hungry. In response to your reply. I expect a delay but not to be told that it will be 45 to 60 minutes after I get there. It’s funny as we were discussing the chopsticks and bowl in a very local pub a few nights ago. All because someone was trying to order a takeaway and gave up as the phone was constantly engaged. We have now sussed it out why as someone ordered a takeaway as the woman answered the phone and straight away said please hold and then served various other people as you could hear it in the back ground. Now that one person was on the phone for over 25mins to order a takeaway with around 20 mins being on hold. It’s no wonder no one can get through on the phone or even get there food on time. The place was much better food and service wise when James used to run it.

Came here on a Saturday night and the place was quite busy. Had ribs and spring rolls for starter which were really good. Service was really good and when we asked for some more sauce for the spring rolls, our seaweed to be served with the main course and a 20 min gap between the starters and the main, they obliged on all requests. Mains were nice as well . Fist time here and will be coming back. No complaints what so ever. Will try and book a table next to the fish tank next time.

I have to admit. The locals are lucky to have this place around them. Me and my friend were lost and came across this place whilst driving. Only had the one dish and was quite amazing and the portion size was overwhelming. KING PRAWN BALLS IN BATTER. Definitely a starter to get

This is probably my favourite Chinese restaurant. Great food, reasonably priced wine. Recommend. This is probably not as posh as it was years ago but it’s good value and enjoyable.

Very friendly place with great food. The restaurant is upstairs and has a decent number of tables available, which weren't too crammed in. The food was amazing and the service was quick. There is limited street parking out the front but apparently there is a nearby car park that can be used if needed.

We haven’t dined here for nearly 20 years, but used to really love coming here before we moved away. So when we had the chance to return tonight we thought we would visit again!I am so glad we decided to visit! The food was excellent - tasty and hot and plentiful. The service was friendly and efficient. We opted for one of the set menus and were really pleased with the different courses. They offered a great variety of dishes.In all a very pleasant experience and we hope to return again soon!

Lovely food. The only reason I didn’t rate 5 stars is because it often lacks atmosphere if you dine in.

We haven’t been here for a few years but decided to try it again on Saturday night. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy but the service was fairly slow, and not very friendly, the staff here always used to be so welcoming and these touches really go a long way these days, particularly when a Chinese meal in a restaurant isn’t cheap. The food however, was good and tasty, we chose dishes from the main menu. The main negative for me was the drinks being served to us by the handling the top of glass, surely this is basic hygiene!

The chicken tastes like plastic, crispy duck isn't crispy just uncooked and fatty, really poor, this restaurant has gone so far downhill, we won't be eating here again

Local Chinese takeaway to me, I personally think it is great quality food, haven’t had a bad one yet!

This restaurant is a regular haunt to go to with family and friends as it us within walking distance from home. Normally a few pre dinner drinks in the nearby Red Lion to start the evening and, surprisingly, always a table available but good to book just in case. Food is good Chinese faire, full menu, mixed appetisers a must. Service can be variable so just relax and enjoy with their reasonably priced wine list. Will be back quite frequently.

We’ve had a few takeaways from her over the last year or so. The meat isn’t great and they use too much monosodium in the flavouring. It’s an average Chinese that tastes great after a drink but quite unfulfilling to have too often.

Good fast food section my personal favourite item of the menu is chils with curry sauce which is nice for curry lovers it's also a cheap snack after a long day of work

This was a great chonese but it may have changed hands again as ge food is not as good as it was. Hopefully just teething problems but it is the only one in the village and could be better.

Not being from around this area was unsure of where to go. I done my research on trip advisor and the reviews looked good. I phone the resturant before going to book a table, when entering the resturant on a Friday night there was no need to book as there was a few people in there but wouldn’t say it was packed.

Five of us went this month for a birthday celebration. Have used this Chinese many times before but haven’t been recently. Not sure if it’s changed owners but the food was very different. It has always been very good but our meal was really bad. We had five different dishes and most of it was left. It was the worst Chinese ever.We did tell the lady serving us but she just said I’m sorry. I certainly will not be going back again.

Use this chinese for years and its the best around, good food and good portions - never disappoints. Useful to order go down the Dog and Bear have a bevy and then get your food.

Had a lovely meal on a Wednesday evening whilst staying at the nearby Dog & Bear hotel. The restaurant was very quiet but we had a lovely welcome and the food was very tasty. We were also given a 10% discount for being over 60! Would return.
