We’ve been here before and thought it was worth a revisit. We called late afternoon, around 4, and the place was not too busy. We ordered drinks and then, after perusing the menu, food and sat outside to enjoy the afternoon temperature and solitude. My wife ordered the lasagne and I opted for the 10oz rib eye steak. Both meals arrived in a reasonable time and both were very well prepared and very tasty. It was probably one of the best steaks I’ve had! The service was good, we were served by three different people at the bar and they were all polite, friendly and gave good customer service. We had a great experience, all in all, and we will be back.

Called for dinner and the menu was a good varied menu. Opted for a Fish Finger baguette as wanted a light bite. The cost was £8.95 which is similar to other establishments which usually make their own goujons. However on receiving it it was what looked like an Iceland defrosted mini baguette, 2 Aldi fish fingers and some limp lettuce in the bottom. The chips were ok’ish but the coleslaw had a very strange taste to it. I did eat the meal as I was hungry but it left me feeling a bit sick afterwards with the taste. The onion rings were ok , crispy on the outside but a bit stodgy batter wise on the inside so did not eat them all. May be it was an off day and if I had picked a large main meal it could have been better. To have a simple fish finger sandwich taste and look like it did for the price then I consider it poor. I was asked twice if it was ok and I replied it was ‘ok’ as I didn’t want to be offered more food or a replacement as I was not that hungry. The place was not busy we were the only ones in at the time to eat so would have expected more of the chef, on such a simple dish. Shame as I had heard good reports, but on this occasion it was not for such a simple over priced dish. The staff who did serve was very nice and polite , the pub could do with a bit of a clean as many areas looking a bit tired with marks, stains and a smell of damp when entering the premises from the rear car park.

Two of our party decided on the fish from the special menue. I'm not sure what the fish was, but it certainly did not taste like cod or haddock. ( Being fair to the mansgement) it did only say Fish & chips on the board, but as we were in Grimsby we expected top quality fish in this area) It tasted nothing like fish and had an earthy smell to it. We complained to the staff, who offered to cook us a replacement fish meal, but we declined and ordered the pie which was satisfactory. We certainly will not be calling again for fish & chips.

On separate visits over the last couple of years, we've have found the staff member on duty will see you walk straight to the bar but will generally carry on with a different task until they feel like coming to attend; unless you're a regular of course. Drinks are overpriced, menu uninspiring. Go elsewhere for a warmer welcome.

As always the food was very good . I have only given 3 stars because of the service today (which is usually excellent) Today there was only one person serving and one person in the kitchen . We had booked in the restaurant at lunchtime and had to go to the bar to get drinks then waited ages for our food order to be taken this was because the lady behind the bar was rushed off her feet serving drinks clearing plates and delivering food . .etc etc. Finally she had time to take our food order ( 35 minutes after arriving ) the food came an hour after we had arrived . I did go to the bar for further drinks but could not get served as there was no-one behind the bar as said lady was taking food out to customers. We did not order desserts because of the long wait that would have ensued. It was totally unfair by the management of this pub to only have one person out front having to look after the whole pub - bar and restaurant You will lose trade if this continues.

It was a friends birthday and wanted to go for lunch ' in a country pub ' and came here. Phoned beforehand to check they were still serving food and to our delight they were. And what a delight it was. The steak pies were very tasty with large chunks of succulent meat accompanied by the vegetables and potatoes, and a lovely rich gravy too. The ladies had haddock and scampi respectively and both were very complimentary regarding their choices. My sticky toffee pudding and custard was awesome as was the birthday boys ice cream sundae. We enjoyed several real ales and a bottle of red made for a very enjoyable lunch.

Having visited previously and enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch, we were somewhat disappointed recently with our meal. The selection of drinks preferred (common ale/non-alcoholic beer) was not available. The meals - were not very generous in their proportions: half a dozen chicken pieces in a Korma (no chutney available); a similar amount of small scampi and a side salad only as a requested alternative to chips and peas; chips with the fish and chips appeared to have been reheated and from the freezer. Spray cream seemed to be the preferred option to the pouring variety. The redeeming feature was the friendly service received! Dr Mike Stopper

Decided to stop here for lunch and sat outside as it was a warm day. Ordered a sausage and onion baguette for myself and my partner had the steak pie. Very disappointed with the baguette. I would say there must have been just half a sausage in it! It was chopped up and there were lots of little pieces rather than a whole sausage cut i half. All I could really taste was the lettuce and fried onion. The chips were ok as was the tiny dish of coleslaw. For £9.95 I would have expected two sausages in the baguette. I know times are hard and everyone is feeling the curse of the cost of living crisis but come on, trying to cut down on fillings like this is pretty sneaky for your customers. My partner had no complaints with his steak pie but felt the drink prices are quite steep. £6.50 for pint and a small Pepsi! Don't think we shall bother visiting again.

Dropped in on Saturday lunchtime to try and book a table for Sunday lunch at short notice, no problem. Stopped for an excellent lunch as well. Sunday lunch inside with a dog, again, excellent (huge) meal. Having looked at a couple of other venues for lunch on Monday (and walked away), we again dropped into the C&A, for a light lunch which was ample. Can't fault the staff, or service, and locals were friendly too.

Fish and chips in the bar were spot on,lightly battered white haddock, crunchy brown chips and mushy peas. The meal was absolutely fine,my problem was the price of the drinks.Does anybody think charging £4.10p for non alcoholic cider is a good idea.Come on..really...don't pub landlords think they should be encouraging drivers to stay legal. My pint of 5% bitter was 30p cheaper.I know for a fact I can buy 12 bottles of the Old Mout cider in question for £18.99,Thats about £1.58p a bottle and I'm pretty sure bought in bulk the pubs get it a deal cheaper. So why not encourage nominated drivers to stay legal by charging a reasonable price.I feel like I've been mugged and won't be going back any time soon.

We booked in advance having been warned that this place gets busy and our table was ready promptly. The staff were very polite and friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was reasonable and completely edible and there was a good selection of beers, lagers and ciders available. Pricing was a little steep in my opinion but I guess that’s simply the effect of energy prices and businesses trying to survive so I can’t complain too loudly. Overall a pleasurable experience and I would use this place again if I were in the area.

I recently visited the crown and anchor in Tetney lock, for Sunday lunch with my partner, who isn't well at the minute so a day out is a total treat for him. Now unfortunately for my waist, I like my food. However this was not an issue as when it arrived, well, I can only describe the plate to be child size. Secondly this child size plate consisted of 3 thin slithers of dry chewy beef (dry turkey for my partner). The veg was what I would call par boiled, if that, as it was how do I put it......hard! This could of ended up very problematic for me as I don't even have an NHS dentist at the minute. and as for the meat, well I took that home for the dog! The only saving grace was the gravy which I couldn't fault, however I didn't fancy just gravy for my lunch Oh and I forgot to add which I find very odd, we were asked to pay upfront, which is a practice I am unfamiliar with.

I’ll start this review right from the beginning when we first entered this establishment. The side entrance was not at all inviting…shoddy dirty paintwork and filthy doors. The carpet I assumed should have been red but was so stained it was literally black where we walked to the bar. On pulling the chair back I had to wipe the seat of detritus and something had been spilled up the wall and skirting board. Very off putting. Had I not been with friends who had booked this place I would have walked out immediately. If you are vegetarian you have no choice but to order the vegetable lasagna……not recommended. Thick green undercooked pasta sheets and no discernible vegetables in sight. When this was pointed out the waitress said she would “have a word” but heard nothing further. No apologies and no adjustment of bill. Will warn anyone thinking of visiting this place…..DON’T!!

For some reason despite having lived in this area my entire life I’ve somehow managed to never come here. But better late than never! The food is all home-cooked and absolutely delicious; come hungry though because a portion for one could easily feed two! I couldn’t finish my Lasagna which was a shame because it was gorgeous and I felt really guilty that I’d left half of it but that was only because of the sheer volume of food on my plate. I assumed I was full up until I heard the Waitress mention home-made chocolate brownies which are my absolute weakness, and then I was definitely beaten.... oh my word they are just awesome, and now the diet is definitely blown! The staff are all lovely and an absolute credit to this establishment which is homely and very pretty inside. There’s a great Beer garden at the rear too for the better weather plus a drinking area with tables at the front. They are dog friendly too which was great - we took our Labrador and she wasn’t just tolerated but welcomed with open arms. I was very impressed too that although social-distancing is still in place the pub is treating its customers like grown ups who already know to keep 2m apart and it didn’t have any signage telling everyone what to do and where to stand which made for a very refreshing change and as normal an experience as I think we’ve had so far in this ongoing farce. Extremely highly recommended and we have already booked again for next week. Just wonderful, thank you so much to the Management and staff, you should be very proud of how you are running things in these trying times.

We visited at lunchtime at the turning point of our walk along the Louth Canal. A lovely sunny day, we chose a table in the empty garden at the front but it soon filled up with cyclists and walkers. Venturing inside to order drinks it was noticeable how busy the pub already was with people tucking into their lunches of classic pub grub dishes at decent looking prices. We were stopping for drinks only; the friendly barmaid asked what I would like to drink and as I considered the 3 ales on pump she immediately offered a taste of all of them. Returning soon after for a second drink the same barmaid advised that a cider had just been put on and highly recommended it. We took 2 more ales and indulged in a sample of the cider on her recommendation. In no time at all I was back at the bar to purchase a more significant quantity of the cider! With regret we eventually departed on our return walk, both rueing the fact that we don't have such a pub as our local.

Hubby ordered ham, eggs and chips. Beautifully cooked but ham was watery and tasteless. I order ham salad. Bloody awful!! It was old, soggy leaves, 3 slices from the end of a cucumber, finely chopped ham to make it look more than it was, 3 old, cold new potatoes and a couple of bits of pepper. Watery coleslaw on the side. No tomatoes or anything else. We all ordered chips on the side but all 3 portions were really overdone and hard. Very disappointing as my husband's chips were perfect! Stopped off for a afternoon lunch and as usual it was simply superb, I had the Chicken Skewers with Sweet Chilli Sauce and the wife had the Beef Lasagne, the meals were served quickly and piping hot but please be aware as the portions are very generous to put in mildly. Both meals were cooked to perfection but this is no surprise as we eat here regularly and Dave & Jackie run a cracking Pub and the two chefs always do us proud.

We visited this delightful pub for lunch today with friends, and all of us enjoyed the food we had. The steak and ale pie has to be one of the best on offer around here: I would highly recommend it. We will definitely be going back to this one!

Recently ate at The Crown & Anchor. Good food at reasonable prices. Busy, a good sign, so ate in the dining area, to the left of the bar (dog friendly), & not the restaurant. Would we go again - definitely.

Dog and I made very welcome and Choco invited to eat with me indoors. Choco is a Romanian Rescue dog and has a few hang ups (including stone floor tiles) so he refused to go in.

I visited the Crown and Anchor today with a friend for lunch. My last visit had been about 30 years ago when I lived in the area. I was pleasantly surprised to find a nicely-decorated pub with friendly staff and quite busy for a lunch time. there was a great choice of meals ; including about 7 'specials' and most were less than a tenner. We had main course and dessert and both were very nice, as was the beer and ambience. Would definitely recommend.

This is a proper pub that does great pub grub. It doesn't pretend to be anything it is not. It is friendly, cosy and welcoming and does a great selection of food. The fish and chips are amazing as is the steak pie and don't forget to try the homemade puds. Ales are great also. Great as a stop off destination if you fancy a walk around the area and would highly recommend.

Really was a birthday treat, generous portions of tasty food at a very reasonable price, we had lasagne, steak pie and haddock and chips, six empty plates. All in a very pleasant atmosphere with coal fires burning. Warm welcome and staff very pleasant. Will definitely be back.

Advance research suggested the Crown and Anchor would be open at lunchtime on a winter day, but we've been caught out many times before. No doubts here, it's open EVERY day, all year round. We were warmly welcomed and found a good menu, but being visitors to the area had to choose the fresh Grimsby fish and chips.

First time in Kilnsea and as a avid user of TA I searched out this place, reading some bad reviews, On arrival I was greeted warmly and spent the full evening here having a lovely home cooked meal. The new owners have taken it to the next level and The Crown and Anchor is now certainly worth a re-visit for the patrons that it lost on previous ownership.

Do not walk, drive or cycle by this is worth a stop.... A wonderfully warm greeting along with a cosy, clean interior. Food was delicious and the portions were huge. The prices weren't! A little gem in Tetney. Well worth a visit.

I had pan-fried sea bass with salad and chips. Very good salad and excellent chips. My husband had steak pie with a very generous portion of vegetables which he said were delicious. He certainly cleaned his plate.

There was a good selection of real ales. The young barman on his first shift was courteous and efficient as was the man whom we assumed was the landlord. The food ,gammon steak and a ribeye were cooked as our request and were of more than ample proportions and a price that makes the journey worthwile.

Visited late august,on recommendation.unfortunately didn't get beyond the only course we had, main course.thoroughly spoiled for two of our party,as there were 3 dogs in the eating area.I myself am a dog lover & owner, but I did see the point of my group. It was a lovely day, so therefore the dogs could have been outside with their people, in a lovely secure beer garden.unfotunately though very good food we will not visit again.

Gorgeous home made food - fabulous fresh whitebait, best I’ve had for ages and then a lovely main to follow. My friend had a yummy desert but I was too full to have one myself.

A group of 8 - walked in for lunch and the bar woman was aggressive and rude stating the kitchen was closed. Feel she could have said this in a polite nice manner. Also putting a sign in the window would have avoided such an unpleasant experience

4 of us & 2 dogs visited today, 04/22/24, for a pre booked 3 course festive meal. We were pleasantly surprised by the size of portions and quality of the food. The turkey slices were thick, vegetables were not over cooked. Really enjoyed our food.

I have often wanted to sit outside this cafe overlooking the beach/sea but it always seems busy without any spare tables. Today we sat at a spare table and just had a milky coffee each at around 11.00 a.m.. Firstly, the staff were friendly and efficient and the coffee which was very fairly priced was delicious compared to more expensive and pretentious “cafe latte” at other places. ( Thiscafe does offer lattes anyway!). The cafe was immaculately clean and tables were sanitised as soon as people left their tables. It helped that it was a perfect day for weather. 22 degrees with a hint of breeze. We will certainly go again especially as there were many attractive food items on offer at fair prices.

We booked 3 rooms for the family to celebrate my mother in laws birthday in an area where she has very happy memories. All the rooms were lovely and very clean. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A special thank you to Yvonne for the gorgeous room for the birthday girl and for the card and gifts, they were so appreciated. This hotel is in a great location with free parking and we would recommend it if you fancy a trip to the coast. Thank you all so much for the great service and attention.

It's October half term and we were staying at Tattershall Lakes. It was so busy we couldn't get through by phone so we popped down and placed our order in person. Having seen they had a delivery to a caravan just along from us we asked if ours could be delivered at the same time (about an hour from ordering) They agreed, the food duly arrived and was delicious. Hot, big portions and even included some non-menu adjustments for our vegetarian daughters. Leftovers were eaten for breakfast before the 5 hour drive home!
