Cross Keys in North Lincolnshire

This was my first visit since the unfortunate fire closed this place down in March. Well worth the wait. This was my birthday dinner so I had my children and grandchildren with me so all tastes to satisfy. Kids tucked into gammon and sausages and cleared the lot. Grownups were on pies, sausage and mash and pork belly pieces. The pies were clearly home made and thankfully not in a pot! Mine was steak and ale with delicious veg and gravy. My only niggle was the chutney in the pie. It made it very sweet which was a bit unexpected! I couldn’t manage a pud though they did look good. Chocolate brownies seemed to go down well. Can’t wait for the good weather so we can sit out on the decking and take in the glorious views. Highly recommended.

Recently reopened after a fire on the premises. Myself and my partner had two pies for 24 pounds and WOOF, it was fantastic. The chips were top tier, the pie delightful and the gravy.... my word the gravy. Tastes just like the gravy my grandma used to make and that is a compliment of the highest value. Great that it's reopened so strongly

Went this evening for a first visit since the Cross Key reopening and refurbishment following the fire earlier in the year. My other half and I had the Monday evening pie deal which is two pies of the day with chips or mash and mushy peas or veg. The pie was steak and ale. Our 6 year old chose chicken nuggets, mash and beans from the kids menu. The food was genuinely excellent quality. The pie was absolutely delicious and served with home made chips. It came with a gravy boat too and the gravy was also excellent and full of flavour. The portions were plentiful. From the children’s menu to describe them as chicken nuggets is a bit of a disservice! Once again clearly homemade with big chunks or chicken breast in a crispy batter. The service was very good with the staff in the restaurant and bar all very friendly and welcoming. The pub has been also been furnished and decorated to a high standard keeping largely the same layout and maintaining the lovely atmosphere it’s always had. Great to see the Cross Keys back open and blown away by this evenings meal.

A great evening- good food, beer, wine and service! Definitely worth your time The Cross Keys provides good food in an old fashioned village pub (how rare these days!) We were a party of 8 and had pre-ordered but everything was served piping hot, the nachos and garlic bread starters were immediately drawing acclaim, and mentioning them seems to slightly undermine just how good everything else was! I was hoping to share the awesome looking steak pie, sadly there was none left! The gammon was excellent, lasagne too, no weak dishes here! The service from all the staff was excellent too, thanks Cross Keys!

On of the best country pub in the Lincolnshire wolds! That is a pretty tall order however, the Cross Keys in Grasby not only stands out on top of the hill above the tiny village, commanding some of the finest views in the county but demonstrates how a true English pub should be!! Opened in 1706 by the local Vicar trying to manage the supply of alcohol to his parishioners, today the pub is run by Tom and his team of professional and very welcoming team headed up by Alex. Tom is a local lad and well aquatinted with the myriad of local suppliers of both food( more of later) and drinks! The cozy atmosphere created by the bar , lounge , restaurant and snug blend together to make this an outstanding venue, just for a drink or for food as well. I should mention that at the rear the building has a spectacular veranda offer views as far as Lincoln Cathedral and beyond. I mentioned food as it is here that you will find some of the most interesting and enticing food in the area! Tom, an extremely talented chef, together with Steve in the kitchen and a small brigade , offer up a wide variety of LOCAL produce cooked to a very high standard! As well as a diverse a la carte menu, each day has a special themed dish on offer and a scrumptious Sunday lunch. All in all the Cross Keys offers everything a first class traditional English pub should. I have no vested interest in this pub other than to ensure the word gets out that this is one of the best around. I urge you to pay a visit… I am sure you will not be disappointed!!

Yesterday, i ordered a chicken burger of the menu. I asked with no salad on the burger and no salad on the side and no sauce in the burger. So in simple words a chicken with cheese burger. It came within 15 minutes and was only roughly £14. It came with two pieces of large chicken which was lovely and melted cheese on top. You could ask for either fries or chips i asked for fries and the portion size was definitely worth its money. It had the option of salad and garlic mayo but i asked for it without. Definitely worth its money and very nice food

My husband and I frequent drive by this lovely looking pub, but have never stopped. This time we decided to give it a try, and so stopped for lunch. We were very surprised to be treated like unwanted customers. The couple working there were rude and made us feel foolish for not having booked a table. They hesitated about where we could sit and finally my husband asked if we could sit out on terrace. The pub was half empty with plenty of tables, but we appreciated that customers may arrive soon to their tables, so we were content to sit outside. Unfortunately we felt too uncomfortable after that to want to eat and so we left after drinks. We will not be returning

New landlord & chef as the pub is now up grabs for more permanent landlord , so thought we'd give it a try got to be honest I ordered the Beef lasagne in red wine , it came out looking very tasty , that's where it ended the mince looked like it had been boiled in water & looked grey totally tasteless , a slither of pasta but to be fair loads of cheese no garlic taste no RED wine taste. By the way PROPER lasagne meat should have red wine in it , there was no tomato either or garlic taste , my partner did mention it to one of the staff but I'd already gone out by then .On the bright side his chips were lovely & his chicken goujons & ribs

The menu choice was set for valentine dining we did enquire about ordering from the normal menu but was told that the whole party had to we could not choose from each according to what we wanted... Booked well in advance for four of us on Mother's day for lunch. Arrived on time and were shown to our table and ordered just two starters. These eventually arrived having waited an hour and ten minutes, they were bland and the portion very small but being charged out at top end prices of £7/8 each. The main meals were 2 lamb shanks and 2 braised beef and this then took an hour and a half to arrive. Staff just seemed to be loitering near the bar and not attentive to service or what was going on. Our starter plates were just left on the table and when we made staff aware we had been waiting some time we were fobbed off with "the bar is busy and we are short on kitchen staff". There were 2 people in the bar on arrival and this is Mothers Day so you PLAN for it! The main meals were on small plates, the amount of braised beef was small and the quality was greasy. No additional gravy was offered and the vegetables were diced and in adequate. A rock hard stuffing ball and two roast potatoes later. Again they want top price here for their food with an inadequate quality and poor unprofessional service run with a lack of leadership. When we raised these concerns we were offered a discount on the food to their credit however one particular member of staff was in objectionable denial and was rather surly claiming everyone else was happy. Interesting as she hadn't been out to check. She claimed everything is cooked fresh to order - well not in the case of 12 hour braised beef or lamb shank! Not a valid excuse or reason for very slow service.To summarize, expensive, slow service , lack of leadership and small portions. Much better quality and value for money to be had elsewhere! Left to buy a dessert from Tesco as it will be much quicker.
