We went as a family of 8 & had the roast dinners which we couldn’t fault but what we weren’t impressed with was when the waitress started clearing the plates and asking for our dessert order before we had all finished eating which we found very rude. We got the impression the chef was in a rush to finish for the evening. Not impressed especially as the meals are not particularly cheap. Will probably not return for a long while.

Very disappointed at our meals and service, long wait to order even though there were very few customer's, myself and granddaughter ordered the roast beef with a dessert for £16.99,when we eventually recieved it i could not believe how small a meal it was 2 items of veg missing when i mentioned it i was greeted with 'oh' and she just left, my grandson ordered chips nuggets and peas he recieved mash and nuggets so was sent back ,my daughter ordered a side order of chips which along with the peas arrived after the main was eaten, asked for dessert menu and waited half an hour to come back to take the order will not be visiting again.

I chose the Ploughman's salad, it came in a bowl, there was no pickle, no crusty bread, and you had to pay extra for the ham at £1.50, the meal was £11.95. it had lots of salad leaves at the bottom, approx. 2 pieces of tomato and cucumber and 3 lots of cheese which is expected on a ploughman's, just very disappointing.

Very disappointed with our meal. Have been a couple of times, but after this never again. Bland and cold steak with watery sauce. Had far better for less else where No one checked on the table. Even when paying no one asked how it was. Just paid and got out of there as soon as possible, leaving two steak meals at the table. Won't be returning.

Were an hour early to check into the lodge, but so happy as I had their Welsh Rarebit with homemade chips for a wee spot of lunch while we waited and it was delicious. Dinner that evening was excellent from starter to pud. Must try the Prawn Cocktail starter and the chicken Goujions, awsome...... Sticky Toffee pudding amazing. Wish we were able to stick around for another round of Rarebit and chips, and would have loved the chance to try their homemade soup. Crofters is a 15 minute walk from our house so is good and handy for that last minute decision to go out for lunch! It has recently been refurbished and has a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. We booked a table at The Crofters with my Wife's Family for Saturday lunch. We ordered pretty quickly but it took nearly an hour for the food to arrive. The owner was very apologetic and the food was good, it took just too long. There was another table of 12 there when we arrived and their food came out in 'Instalments'. One poor guy only got his after most of the others had nearly finished. Another table who came in after us also had to wait. It wasn't really full and not a complex menu so no idea why there was such a delay - no explanation offered by the owner either. Not sure I would go again.

Excellent food: Homemade chips were amazing!. Lunch meal deals were amazingly cheap for the quantity and quality of food. Friendly staff. Only complaint would be that the room is very cold - presumably due to the high ceilings. We were shown round the new bedroom annex - they are of an exceedingly high standard (and warm!) and we would recommend people who are visiting Barrow check out the website which is being updated to incorporate the accommodation. Free parking and free internet. If the breakfasts are as good as the lunches, an all-round winner!

The menu was varied and the food tip top, Pauline said she had made the sticky toffee pudding and you could tell it was home made.Thank God I had left room for it absolutely beautiful, I asked for it with ice cream and fresh cream, Pauline ended up bringing a jug full to our table. Tea and coffee was good and plentiful and she made it a great night for us. Some of our party go with their children in summer so they can sit outside and the kids have a run around. We decided to try out Crofters for ourselves, heard and read mixed reviews and i remember what a busy and excellent eating house it once was. 'My oh My', how things have changed and not for the good.My partner and i have been looking for a alternative eatery in my local area, The Ship Inn and as we used to frequent this local and excellent Pub / Restaurant when the food, quality, choice, portions and service was excellent was nearby. Since the new occupants took over The Ship Inn, in December 2013 has not been up to 'Scratch' and the standards have declined. We feel Crofters have missed the 'Boat'.Our visit to Crofters albeit the staff were helpful and obliging, the food was dreadful, we weren't looking for fine dining, Michelin Star quality, just good local Pub food, where the food should be served with care, presented and above all should taste good with the home cooked feel about it.The food we were served was bland, cheap frozen and tasteless chips, what we thought we were getting Cumberland Curl Sausage, nope, cheap sausages with little or no meat inside them and shriveled up peas. My partner chose the Scampi and Chips, again Cheap tasteless Chips and Scampi from the days of Scampi in a Basket from the 1980's tasteless, my wife chose for our youngest the Golden Fish Finger and Chips, nothing Golden about the 'Fish Finger or the Chips' but they were right about the Fish Finger (single) the Beans were dried and reminded me of the yesterdays warmed up variety using a Microwave. Needless to say, we will not be returning soon. The area is crying out for a good local Pub serving excellent food at excellent prices which the Ship Inn once served, come back The Ship Inn, all is forgiven.Crofters...you are missing a fantastic opportunity and hope this is read and noted..Ben W

Decided to take my two children for lunch, Sunday 14.09.14 to Crofters (Holbeck), and what a disappointment.Crofters was once a well-known Eatery, I remember this place being very busy, jostling with life, folk in the beer garden, people eating on the terraces. It has a large beer garden, a large terrace, basically a good looking well-kept Public House. I ordered for my children Chips, Sausage, Egg and Peas, for myself, Cumberland Ring of Sausage, Chips, Egg and Peas.It was clear to see the Chips were of a frozen variety, nothing wrong with frozen as long as there not of the cheap tasteless variety, the Chips on my children’s plates looked anaemic and could of done with 2 – 4 extra minutes, the Sausage were of a cheap and rusk filled type with little or no meat, the Garden Peas were dried out shrivelled. When my meal was served there was no ‘Cumberland Ring’ just normal sausages, it was mentioned to me they had run out of ‘Cumberland Ring’ and I was served with so-called Cumberland Sausages, again the Chips were tasteless, anaemic, the Peas shrivelled and the best part of the meal was the fried Egg.The sausages on my plate when I cut into them were soft and seemed they had very little substance about them, it wasn’t until I cut into the third one and realised it was slightly pink in the middle, this is not acceptable. The staff are friendly, the Pub has so much potential it cries out for a good chef and for food to be presented with loving care. It was very quiet, no sign of anyone eating, this should have rang alarm bells, on a warm sunny Sunday afternoon it was very quiet. A crying shame.!I, my wife and children used to frequent another Pub nearby in Holbeck, unfortunately the new owners in my eyes have ruined what was a superb Eatery, but since they have took over, they have often ran out of Ale and different meats for the Sunday Roast, this is where Crofters should and could take advantage, the locals I am sure would get behind and support what once was a delightful place to socialise and to meet friends for drinks and for food and the locals need a good Eatery and I dare say does Barrow. For me I will not be returning until I have heard of a major change.Sam B.

Food was terrible sent it back twice and after that the staff were very rood and arogent. Price of drinks was ridiculous. And the children's park outside is a death trap!! Time for a new chef I think wouldn't recommend this for families

Me and my husband have eaten here a few times, tried the gammon, fish and lasagne which have all been quite good so we decided to try the sunday roast,I had beef hubby had lamb and have to say we were not impressed, the meat was like scraps,no nice slices, don't know what they cook their roast potatoes in but the taste was vile, runny tasteless gravy and hard veg,I see someone had said about huge portions being given at this pub I personally have to disagree and say the portions are on the small side, would go again but would never opt for the roast.

We chose to eat at Crofters as my wife and father-in-law remembered the day it opened 30 years ago! The restaurant itself is clean and we'll presented. The waitress was polite, welcoming and informative of all the specials on offer. Not many staff on duty, but adequate for a Thursday night, which just added to a really friendly atmosphere. We ordered 4 different meals, which were all reasonably priced. The steak and ale pie in particular was rich with melt in the mouth pieces of steak.. The portion sizes are akin to American restaurants! The tuna and prawn salad was served in a huge deep dished bowl and my wife's fish was virtually hanging off either side of the plate. The quality of the food was certainly not compromised either. After initially ordering the chocolate fudge cake, I was tempted towards the sticky toffee pudding instead as recommended by the waitress as I knew my son would let me try his anyway! OMG.. The cake is light and moist with abundance of toffee sauce. The fudge cake was also tasty but not in the same league as the sticky toffee pudding. Again, a large portion, but with food this good nothing was left. We travelled from Manchester, as we have family still in Barrow, and I'm gutted I've not been here before. Already decided we will be eating here every time we visit.

Extortionate pricing of beers for a local pub, service was poor with a can't be bothered attitude. Outside was a redeeming feature we had to move out there as inside was just full of flies

We went on a nice sunny day with 3 kids in tow - good outside area with an adequate children's play area. Food is basic but cheap enough and kid's menu is good value. We would probably go back again on a nice day if the grandkids were around and we wanted a cheap lunch.

A large family group of us went for a late Sunday lunch after celebrating our Grandsons birthday in the morning. The table was reserved and the waitress service was good. The restaurant was not busy so we did not have to wait long for our food. The starters and main courses were very good, and everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. However, when it came to the puddings - not so good. The apple pie in particular was awful - it looked like a shop bought one and had been heated in the microwave so the pastry was all limp and soggy. In fact it looked as bad as it tasted so we sent it back and were given a refund. The sticky toffee pudding was a bit better but again looked and tasted like something from the supermarket. The chef definitely needs to do better with desserts as they really spoilt what up until then had been a lovely meal. As the restaurant is within the pub there was a good selection of beer and soft drinks. However, it was let down by the wine which tasted cheap but which didn't have a price tag to match! A better quality and selection of wine would enhance the overall dining experience.

Came with my family for a casual meal only to walk through a beer garden full of drunks who appeared to be loud, uncontrolled and very unwelcoming. My previous visit last year was a completely different experience. Very disappointing.

Probly would avoid this place unless you like to be verbally abused by the staff. I said I thought number of table was 23 to which somebody, that wasent serving me said you better go find out then hadent you. With an aggressive manner I asked him why he was speaking to me like that to 6which he started shouting I'm not getting served. Seriously over a number which I went back to check it wasent a issue. He still at this point shouting how am not gettin served and get f**kin out. The bouncers and the manager came over and bouncers couldn't handle it better and apologised for the adult that was acting like a child. Standing at the side of his general manager shouting get out you fat bitch. That certain staff member deffiantly need s a few lesson in customer service and how to generally act as an adult.....

First visit. This looks nice I thought. Place was less than half full around midday .Quickly directed to a table that required cleaning, but not asked where we wished to sit. Young person wiped down the table and said someone would be along soon to take our order. We waited and waited , despite some members of staff apparently doing nothing. Just about to leave when a waitress finally appeared. Started to take our order then said she couldn’t as the last people at our table had left without paying. Waitress left and came back a few minutes later and said unable to take our order on her iPad until it was sorted out. We would have to wait yet again , she left to attend other customers. At this point we stood up and left and will never be going back. Customer service is appalling. Can’t comment on the food as we never got any!

Perfect place. Very welcome, small hotel. Clean and cozy with very comfortable beds. Perfect location. A few minutes' walk from the train station, from where you can go to nearby Ulverston or Barrow-in-Furness. 100% recommend
