Went for St Patrick's day entertainment Music was on the agenda but football was on the TV. After it finished they played the Irish Rover also Glory Glory Man United ( twice ) gave up after that ! Bar staff on was 1 wee guy under pressure as it was busy.. Owner came on to work ... never spoke. Don't know what to make of it. If your local, it seems a good bar.

Friendly pub with friendly customers. Dog friendly (on a lead). Theakston's Best Bitter was good, but only has the standard keg ales and lagers. Does pizza to eat in or takeaway. Nice to sit outside on the pavement in the sun, but could do with a proper outside area. Helps if you support The Toon, but not a requisite - I'm a Smoggie!!

This is the only pub in the town we (including our dog) felt welcome. It's a basic pub. Good beer, friendly service, very reasonable prices, clean ladies toilet. Range of entertainment and sport on TV. Bit of chat with regulars. Ideal if you're a Magpies fan, but fine if you are not.

Was staying in Newbigging for one night stopover and a journey to the Highlands and am so glad we did as the place is fantastic. I popped into the pub on a Saturday afternoon to watch the football and racing whilst my wife rested at our accommodation after our long drive north. Newcastle were the early ko and the place was packed with passionate geordies the pub is also a shrine to Newcastle United, being a large gentleman with a strong Bermondsey accent I wondered how I'd be received in this proper locals pub and the answer was fantastically the young gentleman behind the bar was an absolute credit to the pub so friendly and engaging the locals were the same and I had a lovely couple of hour's enjoying the Saturday afternoon sport. The draught beer was well priced and well kept and the pub had real character, both my wife and myself agreed that Newbigging by the sea was a fantastic place and when we return for a longer visit we can't wait to spend an evening in this excellent proper pub

Popped in late one evening mid week for a couple of drinks and a few games of pool. Very warm welcome from staff and locals, very reasonably priced drinks and facilities were exactly what we were looking for! We would happily recommend this wee pub to anyone staying locally or just passing through. Thanks again to the staff for their service, if we’re in the area again we’ll be sure to drop in a little earlier!

We dropped by The Cresswell for a quick, casual drink and found both pros and cons to the place. There are two rooms, one containing a coal fire, lots of warmth and a decent sized bar, the other having a cold draught regularly running through as the smokers use the pub entrance for their fix. The waitress who served me was incredibly rude, no smile, no welcome, and practically threw my change at me. On the plus side, there were no to screens on, no banks of gaming machines, instead, just a juke box. It was like a step back in time to the 1970s. It was good to see locals from the community still using the pub on a Saturday night, rather than sitting in front of Strictly, or whatever. Having said that, not much of a welcome given to strangers who step in off the street. Ah well, an interesting experience.

I love this place!I work offshore for 6 weeks at a time in various locations around the globe & this is the food I crave when I'm away - proper old school, home cooked, real food.I live in Durham so it's an hours drive for me to go there but it's well worth it. Portions are huge and prices are cheap. I can't speak highly enough of the place. Thursday is mince and dumplings & I ring up to keep me one with having to travel. Other people have commented on the decor, it's a traditional pub style and that's what I like - don't let those reviews put you off!

I was taking my elderly parents on a driving tour around Northumberland, lunchtime found us in Newbiggin & by pure chance right outside the Cresswell Arms.Their blackboard outside advertised fish & chips which is always a favourite lunchtime treat and we decided to try them. The pub itself has seen better days, it could do with a refurbishment. Having said that everything was clean & the staff were all great. The fish & chips came hot and fresh and were some of the very best I've ever eaten ( and that's a lot). Tea was served in a mug again hot & freshIt's not a posh trendy restaurant, but if you want some great fish in a proper pub you could do a lot worse.

They only seem to serve fish (cod) or whole tail scampi on Friday lunchtimes. Nevertheless both are quite good and prices are reasonable for a pub. The side salad (instead of tinned mushy peas) is a bit better than average. Decor is rather outdated although there is fairly new comfy seating in the eating area. Cash only!

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾
