We recently visited here for breakfast, unfortunately had to give a average review, the staff were so friendly and the cafe was clean , but we ordered eggs Benedict , the yolks were overcooked, upon cutting into them there was no run but just firm yolk , and I ordered a full English again the eggs were overcooked and rubbery, the rest of the breakfast was enjoyable

Best coffee shop in Colchester, friendly, relaxed, plenty of space, great music and dog friendly. I’ve been in for coffee and cake many times over last few years, one my own and with the family, but this was my first time having breakfast here, it was delicious. Highly recommend this cafe.

Pets allowed and that was a bonus as most coffee shops banned them. Very clean and spacious food and drink was fine.

Horrible experience, the inside was incredibly dirty, food all over the floor and service was absolutely appalling, we were served by Abbie who was extremely rude and very clearly didn’t want to be there!

Fantastic. The building is full of character and boasts one of the most charming interiors of any weatherspoons. Be sure to look out from the stage area and see how many famous faces you can name. Good prices, and decent staff. The kitchen is usually pretty quick, but can be hit and miss with the porridge and rhamen bowl (bit too much water). That aside, very good place, and always busy.

I have been in this Wagas about six times since it opened. Of those six visits, three times I was told they didn't have the ingredients to make my favourite dish, the 72, Katsu curry (including on my most recent visit on the 24th of March.) They maybe lying and it is a staffing issue, not sure. Never had this issue at any other Wagas though, which is why I mention it here. Clearly it is not managed as well as it should be.

Sadly this restaurant has really declined. It used to be somewhere we’d go frequently, but following a recent visit for a table of 5 adults and 4 children, we won’t be returning. We waited an hour for the food to arrive. It came out cold. The rib-eye steak we ordered as a medium was more than well done! The manager was rude, didn’t apologise or follow up when we told her. Service needs a huge improvement.

We met some old friends for a drink and food at the Kings Arms in Crouch street. The pub itself is very pleasant and the staff were very pleasant as well. We decided to order food. I ordered the Scampi at £15 and the ladies each ordered the grilled cheese which was £10.at that price I was expecting a really exceptional Grilled Cheeses with artisan bread and great cheese and a nice side salad. Describes as “ A medley of mature cheddar cheese and emmentsl with bechemel sauce in a toasted farmhouse loaf”….What they actually received was beyond appalling, 2 slices of processed white bread with a slice of plastic processed cheese no obvious sauce and a small bland salad.. I’ve had similar cheap toasties before , typically paying £2.50-£3 but to charge £30 for these sandwiches is nothing short of criminal. The scampi came with 13 chips and 7 normal pieces of scampi and 3 tiny pieces that were 90% breadcrumbs. Compared to other local pubs such as the Princess Charlotte this was similar to the “light version”. I would never recommend eating at this pub although as a drinking hole it’s very pleasant .
