We were visiting the area and was drawn in as we spotted a decent coffee machine as I was hoping for a good coffee. To my surprise, only to find in-house baking. We ordered our coffee and had to try the chocolate brownie and the chocolate chip scone. Both the coffee and home baking were done to perfection, absolutely amazing. Guys, thanks for the experience. I would highly recommend you pop in and check them out if you are in the area. Alex & Jacqueline from Edinburgh.

Lovely small place with friendly staff. I enjoyed the Poached eggs with bacon. Two small poached eggs with deep yolk and very little white. Plenty of really crispy bacon (as requested). On two tasty pieces of thick crusty fresh sourdough. All presented on very trendy crockery. My latte was also really nice. I took a piece of the salted caramel brownie with me for later. Very good brownie! The prices are not cheap, but the ingredients were clearly all very good quality so overall we really enjoyed everything we had and would definitely recommend this place.

Yes a little on the pricier side, but you absolutely get what you pay for and a good breakfast these days tends to be around the £14 mark anyway. The breakfast was delicious and because it was served in a skillet, it stayed hot until the last bite. Blueberry and white chocolate choux bun looked as good as it tasted and my first latte in a long time that didn't taste like boiled milk. I highly recommend this nice little spot.

My third visit to this seaside cafe and bakery and it won’t be my last. The coffee is by local roasters Rountons and is reliably top notch. The food is delightfully presented and delicious and the sourdough bread is made on the premises. But what makes a visit memorable is the staff….not just amiable and attentive….but when they ask you if you enjoyed everything it’s not just waitressing by numbers, you can tell they really want to know.

Craigs didn't really live up to expectations. It's very basic inside, very little thought to décor and display. The coffee is OK, although the latte was served in a smaller cup than the cappuccino which is nonsense. The menu might look exciting at first glance (despite the bizarre spelling mistakes) but it is deceptively simple. Smart move from a business perspective but disappointing as a customer. The eggs benedict cruffin was nice although I don't think the hollandaise was homemade and the eggs were a little bit snotty still. Nice bacon on the sandwich but the bread was sliced so thinly and unevenly it was almost see through in places. Why skimp on something so simple? We took some choux pastries away with us and while they looked nice they were most definitely past their best. Despite the craquelin the choux was painfully stale, the cream on top drying and cracked with an unpleasant taste. Service provided by the cheerful Kerry was warm, friendly and efficient.

Edited November 2023 When I first visited in 2021 (see below) I had no idea quite how extraordinary Craig's was in comparision to other places in this region. Now after living in County Durham for just over a year I have had to come back, change my review and rave a bit more about this place. In terms of the affordability of the food versus the quality of the food Craig's is without doubt the best place I have found in my travels in North Yorkshire, County Durham, the Lake District and Northumberland. They use flavour and spice exquisitely, with unusual ingredients, delightful combinations and fantastic clarity. It is only a cafe, but the quality of the food here is unbeatable. Ox-tail and kimchi skillet? - heart-breakingly good! Cruffins? They make you want to cry with joy! 2021 review: I never imagined when we looked for a little cafe to get a good coffee in Marske-by-the-Sea that we were actually going to find such a gem! I was expecting standard crowd pleasers, but instead got really state of the art lunch and fab cakes made by someone who used to work with Benoit Blin (the judge on Bake Off The Professionals). The savoury lunches featured an interesting selection of vegetarian, vegan or meat options, with fashionable fermented items such as locally-produced kimchi bringing a bit of vavavoom to the dishes. The cakes all looked amazing and we enjoyed the varying flavours and texture of our macaron and financier. I was not expecting food of this quality in a little seasoning de cafe and it was a real treat! Some people may be surprised by the prices, but if you are know the difference between price and value you’ll appreciate the quality on display. Yum yum!

I visited Craig’s by the Sea in April 2023 as a party of 3. It was a comfortable seating environment with a view into the open kitchen. Staff were friendly and attentive and the menu had some lovely choices. I opted for a chicken curry which was well presented – my only negative was that the curry was not just chicken breast but included thigh and skin etc. which, I unfortunately, did not enjoy. The bread which accompanied the curry was delicious. The dessert (not sure what it is called) was amazing (see my photo!). The prices were quite high but the food was good quality and it is somewhere I would visit again when in Marske. The surrounding village was lovely.

OK, hate leaving a bad review but when u pay £34 for two breakfasts you expect a certain quality, sadly the skillet breakfast was appalling , poached egg , under on the outside hard yolk , a feat in itself , bacon so salty it was the only taste u got , two skinny sausages sadly overpowered by the bacon , black pudding sat in a residue of oil that had turned to mush and a huge tomato which once cut just added to the sludge in the bottom of the pan, two tiny pieces of toast and a pan so hot you'd have got 1st degree burns . I have to add that previously my wife daughter and mum had been in and things were lovely . Maybe a staff change maybe a bad day , o and a huge hair in my wife's breakfast, tea that went cloudy with what seemed off milk . Sorry guys this is not enjoyable to leave but it was pants .

Tried the breakfast here. Coffee was delicious. Loved how everything is served and the restaurant is spotless clean and has a scandi contemporary feel. Breakfast whilst nice was overpriced. Poached eggs on toast was literally two slices of sour dough toast from a small loaf and two poached egg balls on top. No butter, no additional garnish and was £7.50. I was offered butter but then had to juggle my egg balls to make way for the butter to be spread. The cakes looked very nice and very up market but I didn’t try.

On returning I thought I’d try something to eat I ordered two poached eggs on sourdough £7-50 and added 3 slices of smoked streaky bacon at an added cost of £3 My order came and I dug in ! First poke of my egg and nothing no yolk oozing ? Second egg the same not totally overcooked but certainly not what I expected! Ah well I was hungry so I started to eat in anyway ! The egg was cold ? I’m assuming these eggs are precooked then held in iced water the submerged in boiling water when required? Well I’m sorry to say that they need a little longer!!!! I’ve tried dishes I’ve never had before and I’ve always been incredibly impressed. Everything is made from scratch, fresh and of high quality.
