I arrived at the coffee place, haven't been there before. When we walked in the door, a parade of parents were leaving with buggies etc, as I was coming in carrying my 11 month old and my 4 year old walked ahead - as they do - I called to him as he charged ahead and said 'we have to go order lunch, and pay first' he followed me into the cafe where I ordered his kids lunchbox meal, and a coffee and cake for myself (which came to £13.95, I assumed that included the sandpit - which is £4) I advised, I was going to the sandpit but i was a little early, the staff replied it was open as they'd just been down and cleaned after the last session so if I went down, they'd bring my order down. Wasn't even down there 5 minutes, and a very rude girl came yelling at the door, (I was standing in the sandpit, there was 2 other families In as well may I add) 'you've not paid to be in here!' I was absolutely mortified! I replied, I had paid, as just returned from the cafe. She charged away and came back again 5 mins later, 'you've not paid so you'll need to come and pay it!'. Again, she shouted from the door instead of coming over to me. I was mortified! I tried getting my 4 year old to come, and my baby was in the high chair. I lovely woman offered to keep an eye for a couple minutes whilst I ran up. Something I never do, but my anxiety was so bad and I could have died was embarrassment so i rushed away! So basically, you have to pay for the sandpit on the right-hand side when you enter, there is a sign, which I missed when coming in because it was so busy at the door. A misunderstanding! When I arrived to pay at the desk, (i was flapping having had left my kids with strangers, and obv course still mortified by the lack of manners and discretion from this girl), I said I'm here to pay for my child in the sandpit, and the same girl said 'eh is it not 2 children? I replied, 'Well yes it was but it stated online under 1 are free' as I had already asked when I booked. Again, lack of manners and a very bad tone. 👎 after paying for them, I went back to the sandpit and when I went to eat my pavlova, i was filled with deeper disappointment! It was awful 😖 strawberries were not fresh, were soggy, and had dirt on them, which completely put me off eating it (clearly they werent washed) and my coffee had gone cold. I obv didn't bother leaving to go back and Complain after the reception I'd already had so I left it. A very Overpriced unpleasant experience for an hour and a half. I will not be back! And it put me right off booking their pumpkin event which I was going to do that day after seeing it online.

When I arrived with my 11 month old a 2 year old looking for lunch in at the beach. No conversation, just '£8 please'. A 'have you been before, how old are you children?' I feel should have both been asked. So I had to ask where to go. When I got there the tables were dirty, looked like ketchup on highchairs and table. I wiped my table down. I had to ask another customer how to order food and was told 'at the restaurant' I went to the restaurant with two small children and stood at the 'please waiting to be seated sign' we got ignored so I then walked into the restaurant to the till and ordered. Woman was lovely, pleasant and patient. I was told it would no crockery and would arrive it takeaway containers. It arrived pretty quickly, yes in takeaway containers but no napkins or cutlery and I was also missing part of my order, but was a carrying to toddlers back up for my chips?! I found the wooden cutlery and napkins on exiting. I feel this should have been pointed out when the food arrived. The beach was freezing. The kids meals where cheese sandwiches which was grated cheese. Note for future grated cheese doesn't work for kids sandwiches unless melted. I felt it was presumed we had been before. Such a shame because it could be so good. Just a few tips, ask people if they have been, point out you need to order in the restaurant. It's for kids, it needs to be warmer.

Regularly visit and food and service always lovely. All freshly made food and a nice location into the bargain. My dad, in his 90s, goes with different family members when visiting and enjoys the fish and chips and a wee chat with staff and owners. Happily recommend for a relaxing lunch.

Our first visit and the food was good but the staff and service need to be worked on in the cafe. The young girl who served us could do with some manners No thank you or any other pleasantries. Walked about with a very unhappy and unwelcome face. Based on the customer service I wouldn’t recommend or be back.

A lovely afternoon spent with the family, visiting Craigend in the hot summer weather! Situated near Cumbernauld, south of the M73, this was a decent wee garden centre with the added bonus of a massive sand pit, where we initially went to let our eldest burn off some steam (£5 child entry fee). The sand pit area was good - packed with toys that entertained him for an hour or so. It was let down by the cleanliness of the tables though - leftover food present from previous visitors, with no real urgency to take it away. The food itself was quality - big portions and good value for money. I chose a Chicken & Pickle Panini (with a Side Salad) and a Cappuccino - no complaints. The centre was great - well stocked with plants, an interesting summer fair in one of the buildings adjacent and well maintained facilities throughout. A bit more air conditioning would have been welcomed however - very hot and stuffy. All aside, a Saturday afternoon enjoyed with the family, trying out a new location as we continue our journey as Glaswegians!

We live not too far away & visit every now & then. Unfortunately it's never a nice experience. There's always a funny atmosphere, maybe music would help. When we were in today the blinds were pretty far down so it was hard to look out at the lovely countryside. The young girl who served us today was very competent but most staff looked unhappy & we were completely ignored by the ? manager when we tried to pay. She was intent on finishing her private conversation rather than serving us. On a positive note, the cakes were nice.

On a 'normal' Sunday run out for Coffee & Cake, we struggled to find somewhere due to pre booking and C-19. Anyway we called in advance and booked a table for an hours time.Having lived less than 6 miles from this venue for 20 years, it was great to find somewhere new to visit.Friendly staff, a great location in the country.A fine selection of main meals , sides, snacks , sandwiches and drinks. We took the soup of the day (Potato & Leak) each and a Chicken,Bacon,Brie & Cranberry Sandwich. Washed down with a cappuccino, accompanied by an empire biscuit. Ok, so we done lunch and so glad we did. Food was fresh & hot and we are looking forward to our next visit

We have visited Craig end on numerous occasions. We do a 3.6 mile walk to get there, have something to eat & then 3.6 mile walk home. When we got there today all good having worked up a hunger. I had the lasagne & the wife had the burger. Lasagne was full of cheese & hardly any mince. Burger was thin & over cooked. Very disappointing & not up to usual standards. On this showing we won't be rushing back.

I love their lentil soup and have it regularly for lunch along with a club sandwich which is also excellent. I like their lentil soup that much that I regularly come to get it as a take away for lunch if I am not sitting in.Would highly recommend going to the coffee shop for lunch or breakfast as their food is superb and the service is always excellent. We order a toastie for the little one and instead of ‘normal’ crisps it came with Pom bears which we all thought was a lovely touch! Finished with great ice cream and a very decent coffee (top marks!) We actually only visited for the sand pit, but unfortunately it was full so we headed to a soft play centre, but we did have a nosey in and it looked great! Look forward to returning

Perfect location to sit and enjoy some wholesome, homestyle and delicious food. This restaurant is nestled along a little country road and is located within a garden centre. Its well worth going to visit. We went twice in the 1 week it was so good! :-) On both occasions it was very busy, and no wonder, as the food, which ranges from soups to traditional steak pie dinners to macaroni or lasagne (the list goes on) is all piping hot, fresh, and delicious. Thank you to the 2 chefs who can be seen working tirelessly behind the scenes! The wait for food to be served is short and as mentioned before, is served piping hot and is fresh and delicious.

1st visit was on Mothers Day,so the cafe was busy and we decided to have something to eat at the sandpit area which also meant my wee girl could play. Lunch took ages to come and when it finally arrived (after a long wait) it wasn't the correct order. On leaving the sandpit we went to pay the food bill and the lady working at the till was clueless and extremely slow-I am a patient person, however she literally had to double check the prices and kept forgetting what she was doing,so it took about 20minutes to settle the bill.Albeit,we chose to come again as I believe in trying places more than once to get a feel for what it's really like. Waited on a table and we were told it would be a squash (you had to be a size 0 to fit into the table). Never received our drinks order, girls came over with wrong food and when the lunch finally arrived the macaroni was thick with half melted cheese at the top and tasted like it had sat in a greasy oven for too long. I waited 15minutes to pay & there was a queue of people behind me waiting (approx 8 people). I then waited for ages on the ice cream that we ordered for my wee girl (which they forgot to give us) and we were given the wrong one! Three times I asked if my coffee and cake were ready to be taken away and I was advised they were dealing with it. Another 2 times I had to ask for the order before actually getting it!The staff walk around like they haven't a clue what they're doing. There has to be a proper system in this cafe and also for the sandpit,as today we paid £3 to go to the sandpit and it was rammed-parents standing eating food and nowhere to move-just chaos. If there was some form of order within the cafe and someone to check the running of the sandpit on a regular basis I reckon this place could be really good. Until such times, I won't be returning which is sad because I love lunching and being able to take my wee girl knowing she can also have a good time. We also own our own business in the area so it would have been handy, but I certainly won't be back and I won't recommend this place to anyone.

Waited another half hour for my main course (after spending 15 minutes trying to get staffs attention), which by that time my tea was stone cold and my appetite spoiled. Despite the place being nearly empty, we were advised we couldn't sit at a bigger table beside the window. I personally you feel you pay for the experience, not just the food and if a place can accommodate you then they should. I decided to give this place a second chance after walking out a few months previously when I was advised that we couldn't have a window seat as there were only two of us, despite numerous tables being free. They now have seats at the window for two so gave the place another chance. Visited yesterday with my 85 year old mother who does not have a good appetite. We ordered 2 soups, 2 teas and one sandwich to share. I was advised that we were not allowed to share, this is apparently a rule of the owner. Instead we were advised to order 2 half sandwiches, which come at 70% of the full price. The waiter, who was very polite advised that these would come with crisps and a garnish of salad. I advised that we did not want crisps and a garnish and asked instead for one sandwich. I knew that my mother would take only a few bites as she has been ill and I am tempting her to eat. He stated again that we were not allowed to share. Normally I would just have left as this rule is not only silly but also profiteering but my mother who is quite ill would have been distressed. I declined anything but my mother not wishing to be rude ordered a sandwich. My mother wouldn't eat the sandwich as I was not eating any of it, this made her uncomfortable. What a ridiculous rule - no sharing at Criagend.. It begs the question, are you going to call the police is guests sample the food af their companion. Thank you Criagend, what was supposed to be a pleasant afternoon out for an elderly lady who hadn't eaten much for days turned into an unpleasant experience because I wouldn't allow you to rip us off. And while I'm on the subject, why do you never issue receipts for the food. Instead an amount is requested at the till and people are generally too polite to query. My family have been visiting the place for years but will now advise everyone to stay well clear. Wouldn't give you my money, you are obviously not interested in customer service just turnover.

We took my elderly mother in law out for the day and we ended up at our favourite garden centre, we love it here as the food is delicious and a good menu to choose from. We had a sautéed steak and onion .sandwiches in breath of chicken with a coronation sauce and a prawn wrap, and to finish some delicious ice cream all served by lovely staff ,and great day out and the very best of food .I have been a few times at crag end and have never been let down its a ten from me and thanks to all at Craigend.

This was a family lunch for a catch up, the staff were very attentive (too much to be honest - four times in a short period by two different servers) when asking to take our order. The food was piping hot with good sized portions, although it took a bit long to arrive, but the place very busy and it was lunch time. The panoramic views of the local area are great which means its a bit of a trek getting there (no buses or footpaths available), but the green views are worth it and appealed to all ages who were visiting.

I went to this Garden Centre with an elderly group of 12 ladies.. Staff couldn't be more attentive and helpful to the group. We were all served quickly with delightful scones and cakes. An ideal place for an afternoon visit. There is a garden centre too, but as I live in a flat, I couldn't shop there. There is also a lovely little shop where I purchased lovely birthday cards. Other little nic naks are very attractive. And a florist shop where lovely arrangements are made up. I'll be back.

My wife and I a few days ago dropped into the coffee shop mid morning. On entering we were approached by a staff member who seated us at a window with a view over the surrounding fields. The food we ordered was served promptly and was very good as was the coffee. We spoke to a few members of staff who were all pleasant civil and polite and gave an impression that nothing was any bother. They also have a shop attached which sells various items such as cards, ornaments and seeds for various birds. Enjoyed it and will be back.

My workplace used Craigend Nursery on 2 occasions: Christmas lunch and a celebration tea. The Christmas lunch was delicious with homemade cakes included for a very reasonable rate. We ordered a selection of cakes for a retiral tea, and not only were we provided with an excellent variety of cakes, but the service was fantastic also. Delivery was offered and arrived just at the right time. We will definitely use Craigend nursery again because we know it is guaranteed to be fantastic.

I visit Craigend regularly and have never once had a bad meal. Infact when I visited two weeks ago, I called over the owner to advise her the Macaroni I had was the best I had ever had in restaurant (I am particularly fussy about Macaroni!) and I asked her to pass it onto her kitchen staff too. Cant fault any of the food and the Banoffee Pie is the best i have ever tasted as well. Its the first thing I look for when I arrive!

Had lunch at craigend nursery with some friends this week, I visit fairly often, maybe every month or so. Soup is always lovely and food is made freshly to order. Cakes are delicious, I had malteser cheesecake and it was beautiful. On a really warm day, it was nice and cool inside which was appreciated. Service was quick and very friendly.

When we arrived at Craigend today my family and I were warmly greeted by the owner and shown to our seats. We enjoyed the fact that we were then waited on by experienced staff who are always pleasant and helpful. As usual there was a great selection of fresh meals to choose from as well as a mouth watering choice of desserts in the cold cabinet. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Have been to Craigend on numerous occasions as they do a great breakfast, a tasty lunch and have amazing homebaked cakes. Everything is always so fresh and the extensive menu makes for a hard decision on what to have! Today I was meeting a friend for a coffee and we went to Craigend just after 1pm. The place was absolutely packed and we thought we wouldn't get a table, I also had a pram so needed a table that wouldnt cause any obstruction but the friendly waiter who greeted us at the door, cleared a table quickly and removed a chair to give me plenty of room for the pram - we were advised of the specials and soup of the day as we sat down. Even though the place was chockablock, was only a few minutes before our order was taken and we had our coffees. I decided to try one of their fresh scones and I wasnt disappointed - best scone ive ever had, warmed through a bit and with plenty jam and cream (nothing worse than not having enough of either). The staff were very attentive as always and the owner, recognising that I have been in with my baby before, was asking me how he was, something which makes this place so special as the staff remember you and are always friendly and go that wee bit extra, I love a place which makes u feel welcome. If you want a fry up, freshly made lunch or even just a coffee and a cake you really should check this wee gem out - Try the fruit scones (although you can get plain or treacle too) you wont be disappointed.

My friend and I have been wanting a wee place just like this for too long, and it's an absolutely lovely cafe, friendly faces and chatty staff, you're always made feel welcome! Usually I have the baby with me and they always accommodate us promptly and are very helpful, and me, I'm slowly making my way round everything on the menu each time I go, and would recommend my fav, the pasta arrabbiata, perfect amount of heat for me! They always have really tasty looking cakes in the cabinet and soaves ice creams on offer, perfect for afters! And the garden centre is lovely for having a wee walk round after your food, lots of different quirky things unique to other places! Definitely don't miss it, I will be back! Again and again :)

Cannot understand one of the previous reviews titled "The least friendly waitress in Scotland". As a regular customer who has frequented Craigend dozens of times I have found the welcome to be warm and the food to be excellent - I last ate here a week ago. I have awarded 4/5 for service as this can sometimes be a tad slow but only due to the sheer volume of customers at peak times at this busy little hidden gem - other than this the waiters/waitresses are very smiley and happy to accommodate even my fussiest orders! A great place for a quick lunch with friends or as somewhere to take the family. Having a garden centre and gift shop on site is another added bonus!

Food was delicious (I had the special - a black pudding, bacon and poached egg salad) and the service was so friendly, t(he waiter accommodated our picky order)! Reasonably priced too. And from what I saw, a wide selection of cakes and scones which the waiter confirmed were home made, I'll be trying some next time I go!

Me & my baby son were taken here for lunch today while visiting his grandparents who had read good things about the cafe in the Sunday Mail. Unfortunately it was completely ruined by what can only be described as the 'attitude problem' of a member of staff in the cafe. There were vacant tables right in the centre of the floor which we about to be shown to but I asked if we could possibly have the quiet corner table that had just been vacated as it looked ideal for parking the buggy and feeding the baby. The woman seating us could not hide her disgust at this request and flounced off making a big deal about how we'd have to stand an wait until she cleared it. There were only a few drinks on the table and a sauce bottle - we couldn't see what the huge deal was. Once seated we were gruffly presented with menus and when the same woman came back to take our order and my mum made a simple request to have just a few tomatoes on the side of her baguette rather than the full mixed salad she spoke to us like we had asked her to run to the moon naked to pick them herself.....talk about being made to feel uncomfortable. We ordered diet cokes and were given diet pepsi but said nothing as there was no way this woman would have appreciated any further communication (not a huge issue but the menu should say pepsi rather than coke as we might have chosen something else had we known. She continued by dumping our food down in front of us with a surly expression and as we ate we watched her glower at other customers. We meet up in garden centres and cafes frequently as I live a distance from my parents and we have never witnessed service like this anywhere! Having managed a number of hotels and retaurants over the years I can only surmise that she must be related to one of the owners as no employer is desperate enough to pay wages for that kind of behaviour. This woman is clearly not cut out to work with the public and we will not be back based on her treatment of us today. We had also picked out a number of gift items in the shop and decided to have our food before getting them so as not to have to carry them but we left empty handed as we just did not want to spend another penny with you after that. I will pm you a photo of the woman in question in case you wish to identify her for inclusion on any customer service training you might be able to find - dear knows she could do with it!

We went here for a Mother's day treat and were very disappointed. The soup was tasteless. My husband had salmon that looked as it if it was a big dollop of mustard stuck on it and tasteless. The steak pie was ok but the mash potato was like smash in a pack. Best to keep to serving coffees and teas with cakes or baguettes but as for a three course meal you need to get a better cook. Worked out quite expensive as well. Never again!

Prices are very high for a Coffee Shop, and service was poor! Hot food was served on cold plates and greasy. One of my party had a cake from the cake display and the chocolate had melted on the plate when it arrived at our table as the plate was extremely hot.One could hear every word coming from the open Kitchen which is not good for customers to experience or listen too. We felt it lacked customer service and people skills and a lot of training required in this field. The male waiter who served our party, who was obviously older than the other members of staff on duty was very chatty and courteous and customer service orientated which is very much needed in this type of catering service..

We arrived around 1pm on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and the place was very busy. We took the last table.. but the waitresses were very very slow and rather hopeless... we waited 20 minutes to have our order taken and just as long for the food to arrive.. i understand they were busy but they seemed more interested in seating more people then serving the ones who were already seated. However the food was very tasty and the ginger/rhubarb cheese cake i had was the best i have ever tasted. The only other thing i didn't like was when we went to the till to pay our bill.. we weren't given any sort of bill or receipt just told a total which we didn't know was correct or not.... i find that quite bad. I would return but maybe when it was less busy.
