My husband and I ate here twice in the space of a few days. Service was friendly and welcoming both times. On the first visit, our nachos and egg on toast were very nice. There’s a large variety of milkshakes to choose from - our White Twix and Bubblegum choices were amazing! Would love to try the iced cinnamon roll flavour. As we’d seen good reviews online, we booked a vegetarian afternoon tea. This consisted of sandwiches, quiche, mini cakes, scones and a surprise mini cheesecake towards the end. All of the sandwiches were served on seeded bread, which was an issue as I don’t eat this. Usually with afternoon tea, sandwiches come on at least two varieties of bread e.g white bread and seeded bread, so there’s something for everyone. I feel that when we booked the afternoon tea, the coffee shop should have informed us they usually make the sandwiches on seeded bread, or asked for our bread preference. With hindsight, I will specify with future afternoon teas which bread I would like to avoid this happening. They did kindly prepare additional sandwiches for me on white bread, at an extra cost. The food all tasted lovely and was very good value for money at £11 per person - we took the cakes away with us as were too full to eat everything we were presented with!

I have never been as envious of my husbands choice of food as I was here. His slice of coffee and walnut cake looked gorgeous, although I must say that my cheese scone was delicious. What more could we ask for as we also had a lovely pot of tea? Nothing, it was all we could ask for.

Well… where I start!! Booked a table for 6. After being seated the waitress came for our drinks order. We waited more than 10 mins for these to arrive. Then we ordered lunch. Lunch arrived but no cutlery. Ask the waitress for these and had to wait yet again while our food was getting cold!! Then came desert…… having had another long wait the cakes were put on the table in amongst the finished lunch plates and numerous cups and teapots!! We had to eat the cakes with our dirty lunch plates next to us. Very bad service skills!!! Will not be recommending this establishment for a lovely afternoon out. Waitresses need to be more on the ball on waiting tables!!!

My partner and I came here with our 2 month old son. We were greeted and seated at the door. Very clear effort had been made to help protect against Covid. We both had the homemade quiche and a milkshake each. It was a very good value for money, portion size was good and both the food and milkshake were absolutely spot on. We will definitely be returning and bringing friends.

I live locally, and had heard great things about this place, so I decided to book for my mums birthday treat. The staff are very accommodating, the food portions are perfect and it all tastes really good. We had an extra one with us who ordered something on the day, they made sure her food was brought out at the same time as ours and even did an extra banoffee treat for her too. We have already recommended it to a few of our friends, and are planning a return trip very soon

This lovely cafe is of the 'coffee and cake' genus, but sells paninis, soup, lunch specials and so on. Staff are friendly and helpful, the setting is right opposite the stunning Manor Barn site and prices are not cheap but perfectly reasonable because... The food is superb. Really, really good. And they are one of the few places that can make a decent milkshake. Not open on Mondays but open till 5pm most evenings. Well worth a diversion.

This cafe looked lovely from the outside. I was unfortunately very disappointed. The coffee was mainly foam, and my cake was so stale I had to leave it. I have never have had to leave cake EVER!!! I love to bake at home so I know about cake. But it was so stale. They had most of the same cake out on show. If it had been the last slice it would have been more obvious. The young girls there seemed pretty unhelpful. Will never go back.

Great little cafe just opposite Manor Barn, which is handy for parking. Coffee good, breakfast great and some nice cakes on display (I'll try them next time!). Staff very friendly. Tables spotless. Reservations can be made and as it gets busy at key times that's probably wise. Recommended.

The old town is Bexhill's highlight and Courtney's seems the ideal place to set it off: a quiet and spacious tearoom serving good coffees and teas, tasty light meals and great cakes which are displayed along the counter. There are flaws, however. The last time I was there I ordered a large breakfast so that my elderly relative, who couldn't eat a whole meal even if small, could have some toast and tomatoes from mine to go with the coffee we had ordered. To my surprise the staff member on duty said that if I wanted a second plate for my relative to use, it would cost an additional 25p! Really? So what about the glasses that customers use when they request tap water?? It didn't fit with the cosy atmosphere of the cafe and has rather spoiled my image of the place. This could be a question of who is on duty as I have had a couple of delightful servers, but ultimately the management is responsible and it's a shame to leave this penny pinching impression. The solution by the way was to use the saucer under the cup of coffee...!

Often visit here after working at Mais House just over the bridge, I normally opt for tea, and am pleased they use two teabags in the pot rather than the one, so its a nice tasting brew. Cake looks to be homemade, and slices are huge, and taste really lovely. Prices are really reasonable, and they offer an early bird promotion of buy one drink get the second free (think it finishes at 10.00am). Just a very welcoming café with great staff and they welcome dogs too. Highly recommended.

My friend and I both pensioners have booked a table almost weekly for the past 18 months at this cafe but over the last few weeks have had to share it with a stranger as he prefers it to any other in the cafe but has not booked it. On complaining to the Manager she rudely accused us of not respecting the elderly and said that we can no longer book this particular table with a comfy sofa. Obviously some elderly customers are more important than others so we will not be going in there again. Jan and Ann.

Our lovely daughter had arranged a surprise 27th anniversary treat for us today but was let down by another tea room. With only an hour's notice, the wonderful ladies at Courteneys whipped up the most gorgeous afternoon tea for 13 of us. The sandwiches were made on beautifully fresh bread with very tasty fillings, yummy quiche, homemade sponge cakes and scones with jam and clotted cream followed. Then just as we thought we were close to finishing, 2 platters of the lightest homemade shortbread arrived! That combined with as much tea and coffee as we could drink meant that we virtually rolled out 2 1/2 hours later! The ladies couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating especially as my niece has just had to start eating gluten free - that posed no problem at all for them and she had her own separate cake stand full of delicious goodies too. Really can't recommend everything highly enough. Thank you all for saving the afternoon - we couldn't have been happier!

Popped in for lunch as I know they do these muffin shakes which I thought the children would love, which they did. Sickly but to be expected! I like that it seems they do cater for children, as they had plastic cutlery available and colouring books and pencils which is great, always a big help. Large portions for children, lovely fresh bread and fillings, again lovely to see the effort going into a kids sandwich however bread is cut so so thick that little mouths can't quite fit it in which make it off putting for them, and ends up with lots being left. They must go through so much waste for children's lunches! Which is a shame as so lovely. All the adults enjoyed the food though. What we didn't like, was when we did walk in, there was just no atmosphere or welcome. Staff are kind of hidden out the back, we could have done with one perhaps stepping into the front to see if they could accommodate us with tables as we needed 2, instead of offering to put together we just sat separately? It was also silent, 2 separate people looked like they were having coffee and working and in walked us 3 adults with 5 children, we felt like we should walk back out as we were intruding! We was all whispering! Something I think background music would help with. All of our children are very well behaved but it's not nice feeling on edge and like everyone is listening to your conversation! I hope these things get picked up upon as could be so lovely as the food is.

We had a cheese ploughman's and toasted sandwich, both of which very nice and filling. The only thing to let this place down is the number of tables and lack of staff to clear them. Three night stay. Staff were very helpful and accommodating but the ‘luxury’ room was a let down. VERY small bathroom, unfinished tiling and floor and cold. Dust everywhere, dead flies and cobwebs in glazing, bins not emptied during entire stay. Very limited toiletries and tea/coffee tray. Old pillows without protectors. The breakfast was good but every item had to be ordered individually, nothing laid out for us to help ourselves to and there were no pastries or cereals

We used to have great breakfasts in the past at this location but we were both very much disappointed by paying 40 pounds for being served old bread under our choice of breakfast. First it was like it had been toasted several times at an earlier time that day and tasted like old toast and was extremely hard, thin and a very small slice of toast, that was not cuttable or biteable. When I asked to change it, I received then a slice of old, dry untoasted bread in a place that sells fresh bread every day. It felt like the avocado had shrunk a lot and the egg was cold as it came back within minutes. My husband had the same, old, dry bread under his choice of breakfast. The small amount of ginger and turmeric shot, was mixed with too much water too. The prices for eating out in general have been shooting up enormously in England in the last two years, however, sadly to say, the quality and service in some places have been going down. There seem to be a lack of awareness amongst the owners, chefs and services, that some people also have to work a lot to be able to have the luxury, which it is becoming more and more, to eat out and that they don't want to spend their money on badly prepared or bad quality of food for high prices.
