Authentic Cornish Pub... A real jewel!

Lovely little pub! Was taken here for Sunday lunch today and had a lovely meal! Staff were very friendly, and food was delicious. Well priced for a decent sized plate of food! Will be back!

We had two weeks holiday in Devon & Cornwall...and we had one of the best nights stop over in our motorhome at this pub, so friendly good choice of beers and very good food, we we're made so welcome by the bar staff and owners, hopefully we'll be lucky enough to stay there again on our travels.. top pub wish there were more like this...🤩

Quirky, traditional, old school local pub. Possibly one of the friendliest places in Cornwall. Very welcoming and the food was home cooked and made us feel at home. Reviews brought us there, and at first as we walked in we thought we had got the wrong place, but it soon becomes apparent why it gets the reviews it does. Service was attentive and considered. A happy experience for our holiday. 👍🏻🙂

Had a couple of meals at this lovely pub Sunday dinner was lovely 5/6 kinds of fresh veg with lovely roasted potatoes and the meat was amazing got more than in a carvery . Will defo be returning when we come down to Cornwall again Thankyou

Step back in time for a night out in rural England, great service, great staff, a good selection of ales on tap. Full of locals having a laugh and we even felt comfortable enough to have a go on the karaoke evening Freddy Zapp was hosting. It was a good laugh and made some memories.

Great Pub... Good selection of beers and super food selection... Our Sunday lunch beat our expectations, good large portions, very tasty and their sweet / pudding selection is worth saving space for as they are excellent... Over 20 in our group, all agreed it was a great experience... Thank You...

Loved this place. Nice little country local that actually means it when they say they are dog friendly. We were made to feel so welcome, as was our dog and they even agreed for us to buy a chicken breast for our dog which was kindly cooked by the chef. Delicious food

Had my Dad’s 80th birthday here on Sunday 23rd June and all I can say is “Thank You” for making a family very happy. We booked a lunch for 20 people and weren’t disappointed - food was delicious and hot - we all ate roughly at the same time and the staff were great. Even decorated the area for us as requested - went out of their way to ensure we had a good time and it was really appreciated so a massive thank you to you all :-)

Fantastic olde worlde pub, with all the pub grub classics, staff were great, I had prawn cocktail which can go either way but was done very well, even had fiddly dee band in one corner

We had lamb shank, beef and ale pie with two deserts, this pub was recommended to us and I would recommend it to anyone. We were there on Saturday 22nd June, the bar staff were incredible friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Really well done all Mike and Sue Ellis

Great pub with a classic old school ambience, unpretentious and with real locals at the bar. If only most pubs were like this. Good beer garden and a pool table.

We just nipped in for a quick coffee and a rest break. Thr place was a bit tired, but the beverage was served with a smile and had a decent taste.

Stayed two nights in our motorhome absolutely lovely people. Nice flat carpark very quiet at night. Busy warm cosy pub. While we were there it was Nick the landlords 40th anniversary of taking over the pub to say it was heaving is no exaggeration. Definitely recommend a visit 👌

Very good well run pub and good hospitality and friendly

Very friendly and accommodating so we keep going back now for 40 years!! So 2024 Nick has been the landlord for 40 years. My first visit was with my dad as it was used as the start & finish for the Penddenis motor clubs Flora trail (which is now named after my dad)! It is still as good as it ever was with different entertainment each night catering for anybody's taste. Just had a great tasting steak with traditional folk music last night.

What a gem of a pub,we turned up without booking and they managed to squeeze us in,the dinner was just like my mums Sunday roast cooked to perfection,the decor is mostly traditional crockery and brass which I love giving a old fashioned warm atmosphere to the place,the staff were very friendly and so too the locals,then out of the blue the whole pub sprang into full throng shanty song which blew us all away and found it quite moving to witness such tradition even a guy walking past with his dog was singing in time lol,would recommend this place to anyone who loves tradition we will certainly visit again,love it absolutely love it.

A brilliant, old school pub. We stayed on Monday night in our camper in the car park (which filled up fast after 6.30pm). There was a live shanty group who do a regular practice session - one of the best I have heard. The staff were great and the homemade lasagne yummy! 😊

Easily the best pub we've been to in the UK hands down, if you are even remotely in the area make sure you come. Nick the publican has been here for 40 (four zero!!!) Years and has built this place into an amazing centre of community and happyness. There are pretty much events on every night and everyone we met was so happy and welcoming, the food was fantastic as well and there are a great selection of beers and other options. We arrived on a Tuesday and were treated to a night of shanties and decided to stay another night for Wednesday to enjoy a band of 20 local musicians playing beautiful Cornish music. Honestly one of the most surreal and amazing experiences we've had while campervaning around Europe and the UK, we really can't thank Nick and his team of lovely staff enough. We are already planning on coming back!!

A little off the beaten track, but nice spacious comfortable pub with pool table and karaoke event the day we visited, but most importantly to me it's dog friendly! Even the landlord had a couple of dog biscuits for my dog, he was extremely friendly too! Will try the food next time. Well worth a visit

Nice atmosphere, well priced, had a starter to share which was good, two roasts both hot with good selection of veg and two meats, and dessert was delicious. Very reasonable for the amount of food we got and plenty for a big eater. Highly recommend!

Went to this pub for the first time while on holiday , we had a meal and it was spot on there was six of us and everyone of us really enjoyed it , the staff was so helpful and couldn't do enough for us , then to top the night there was a karaoke on , what an atmosphere brilliant all round pub ,and I mean a proper pub , it was an excellent night out ,,, well done to all the staff at the Countryman Inn 👍👍👍

Motorhome stopover when I am in the area. Friendly, safe with great dog walks off the car park. Felt very welcome as a single traveller.

We're on holiday and a Google search for lunch in the Redruth area suggested The Countryman Inn. This is a 'proper' pub with charm and atmosphere in abundance. The locals made us feel so welcome and the landlord was lovely. We had a Sunday roast which was fabulous and very reasonably priced. Can't fault it.

Great pub with a welcoming and friendly landlord, Nick, who always happy to see you, and wonderful staff. I come for Freddy Zapp's karaoke Fridays and even if our group can only get there for the last hour, he always let's us get a couple if songs in. There is always something happening every night, be it quizzes, folk music, singing. I especially enjoy Maggie-oke's Thursday night karaoke. If she hasn't got your favourite song (unlikely), then ask and she'll have it the next time.

Rang up on the off chace of food. They fitted us in. The food was delicious. Lovely old feel pub with a calming atmosphere.

Good pub ! Quite isolated above Camborne. Big, and a little old fashioned. Fresh flowers on every table. Good choice of beers - Directors, Old Peculier and others. Food also, but did not try. Clearly a big community resource wirh music and other events every night.

What can I say... I asked Nick the legendary landlord to reserve me and the fiancé a table for their valentine's menu the day before valentine's day the Monday. He asked for a time I said between 6 and 7. Plans changed and I phoned at half 7 changing the table for 8 o clock they were most accommodating saying this is fine. Upon arrival there was a table in the corner with a lovely laid table with a candle and a rose. Looked rather welcoming and romantic. We preordered in advance but there was no long wait whatsoever. The starters were presented beautifully and tasted amazing. The main course wow what a fillet steak which they cut themselves and the dessert was the cherry on top. Amazing quality tasty food and brilliant service. Well done Nick, Georgina and crew brilliant way to end or should I say start the evening.

GIVE IT UP BEFORE YOU MAKE SOMEONE ILL. Had lunch in a large family group as this pub used to have a good reputation. Arrived 10 minutes early and the main door was locked. Shown round to the back entrance and asked if we wanted drinks and so I ordered a Bloody Mary " all the ingredients?" the barmaid asked. I said yes but it arrived with a piece of lime instead of lemon, no Tabasco and there was no Worcestershire sauce in the pub. Family arrived and we all ordered. I went for the homemade tomato and basil soup with fresh baguette, followed by a bacon and brie baguette. The food (or some of it, as it came in dribs and drabs) arrived and the family member opposite had a piece of pie with pastry reminiscent of school. You remember, similar to cardboard, anointed with congealing packet gravy. My homemade tomato and Basil soup had been made from Passato and pesto and was a complete stranger to the concept of a fresh tomato. The baguette was frozen and thawed in a microwave, or similar, with the customary pat of hard frozen butter. The following baguette was no better. Cheap bacon barely cooked, slice of tasteless brie (not grilled) and the same form of bread. YUK! My partner had bangers and mash, Easy? Well, the mash was fine, the bangers were the cheap supermarket variety with the same congealing packet gravy on top. She was luckier than others. One ordered a fillet steak which refused to leave the kitchen and we had almost finished when his arrived-quality unknown. Another ordered cod but was proffered belly pork, which she politely declined and her cod arrived ten minutes after everyone else had finished -quality unknown. Well, there you have it a pub with not much drink and totally indigestible food. Just the sort of place to take the VATman to lunch, if you have no mercy. I am sorry to be so harsh but there comes a time to all of us to move on to avenues new. In this case not catering.

I have passed this pub for the last 10 years taking my kids to Carn Brea swim club 4 days a week, at least once a week I’d say… “We must go in there sometime” well last Monday we eventually did an what a fantastic pub. I took my 3 kids in for food and it was great, huge menu, lovely food and a great atmosphere. The staff were lovely and friendly and the landlord was so welcoming. It’s so nice to go into what I call a proper pub, no vases of flowers on the table, no place mats or cutlery either, just how a pub table should look (beer mats only!) and not the word ‘Gastro’ insight. Decor is fantastic, and the place was packed (on a Monday) with a live Cornish music jam session. This is a pub style that I remember from growing up in the 80’s what I call “A proper Boozer!

I really do want to give this place a higher mark than 3 but I honestly can't. Let me explain 1. I don't think the place has been decorated since smoking stopped, the cielings are still yellow 2. The decor is looking tired 3. Good points the food is absolutely lovely 4. Dog friendly place, which is good for some , but fraid to say wet dog is not a smell I adore 5. Staff are fabulous and well attentive Sorry 😞

Visited the Countryman Inn for the first time yesterday just for a drink with a friend. Lovely old school pub with proper character. Was greeted upon entry and quickly served. Even though I didn't have any food, from what others were eating, it looked good 👌🏻

We dined here as a party of eight with two dogs a week and a half ago. What a find! Lovely warm welcome friendly locals excellent food and service. The chef served up 8 different meals(all scored excellent)all together! Outstanding! The dogs were not forgotten and were thoroughly spoiled. Plus excellent value for money!

Wow what a super old school country pub. Looks like it's not changed in years and I mean that in the best way. Really enjoyed stopping in for a quick one. Didn't have an ale but they served a couple. Does food. Friendly service and some chatty patrons. Known for its karaoke nights which I would have loved to have experienced as I've not got a bad voice once I've had a few down me. Recommended 🍻 🍲 🎤 🎶
