Cotton Eyed Joe's in Torbay

Only my Second visit (won’t be my last) to Smoky Joe’s, staff were all excellent and remembered me from the first time 🫡Perfectly cooked Ribeye steak😍had the Cajun chips a lot spicier than expected but fabulous🥵corn on the cob 🤤wished they sold Guinness 0% as I’m a driver, but happy with coke. More expensive than a Spoon’s BUT much better quality 100% and 100%better cooked. If I could make a suggestion to improve, as I was leaving there were 3 young ladies Vaping in the doorway who were deep in conversation and ignored me as I came through the door, I’m a large chap which made it awkward to exit. I suffer from COPD and severe Asthma and suffered an attack on my way to my car, so maybe a keep clear sign in the doorway, thanks for a great meal 👍🏼👍🏼

Few days away with the other half and came here for our evening dinner last night. Thursdays is burger night and well worth the money £10 for burger, chips and homemade coleslaw was absolutely delicious the burgers are fresh and full of flavour also had the mac and cheese as a side order best mac and cheese I've had, definitely will be back again.

We tried this place for the first time last night and it was absolutely amazing! Food was incredible and big portions, staff were so friendly and welcoming and great value for money, cannot wait to go back

We have recently moved into the area and tonight was our first night eating here and it definitely wont be our last! The food was amazing, the staff are very welcoming and the price of everything was worth every penny.

The Tennesse burger was pure unadulterated filth, I loved it! The spicy chicken bites where also amazing, but five isn't enough, I could of smashed 10. The delivery driver was a really nice guy.

My Girlfriend and I come here every month as a treat. Best burger in Devon, we always order the same thing and I think the lovely staff are starting to catch on 😂. The cocktails are great and the price of the food is respectable as the quality is second to none. The staff are always so kind and quick to get us in and take our order. Couldn’t ask for a better place as it’s quick service and the best comfort food!

This place is absolutely amazing! The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is delicious, and the cocktails are fantastic. It's one of my favourite spots in Torquay for food and drinks. My boyfriend and I have been coming here every month for over two years, and we always look forward to our visits. I highly recommend!

Nice welcome and got seated got give menus to look at ordered drinks and food very quickly, the steak wasn't that great and came with coleslaw and fries and a side extra of onion rings though they would be homemade but no they was frozen rubbish! Not even started the food another table came sat by us and they smelt so bad of BO it was so horrible and they seemed like they been on something and drunk all at once! We looked at the lady that was staff like wtf and she was like clueless ! So not a great experience for us will no be returning.

Visited many times and it never disappoints would highly recommend the mac and cheese 😍 Definitely eat here when you visit Torquay I can promise you won’t be disappointed

My partner and I decided to go out for a little treat night and stumbled across this place by pure chance. We were staying locally and decided that we’d give it a go since we were both big American food enthusiasts. We were greeted, the moment we stepped foot into the restaurant by a wonderful member of staff who took us to our seat and offered us drinks right away. A very short wait later, she returned with our drinks and ready to take our order for food. It was exceptionally quick service and done with a pleasant smile! The gentleman behind the bar was also, incredibly kind and helpful. The food was some of the best American style food that I’ve ever had and it was backed up with some brilliant choices of genre songs which suited the bar/restaurant through and through. All in all, the service was incredible and the food was absolutely phenomenal! If we are ever in the area again, we’ll be sure to stop by. Totally worth the time and money and would certainly recommend this to anyone!

We went to Smokey Joe's on Friday night for our daughter's 18th birthday after being recommended by a friend. I cannot praise this place enough. First of all the staff our the best. Friendly and helpful from booking the table for 17 until we left. All the food came out together on time and wow. What food it was. The steaks burgers ribs everything was delicious. Lovely atmosphere and great music. Will definitely be returning. Thanks again for a special night Smokey Joe's.

Thoroughly impressed. Staff were polite and genuine, timings were great, and the food was sublime. We both had the fillet steak and hugely enjoyed it. Also decorated very nicely, tunes are good too.

Partner booked as a surprise for my 30th. Food was incredible, price was reasonable, and service was second to none. My family and I were on a few days break, thought we would try Smokey Joe's. We were not dissapointed, food was great, service was good, decor was fun and authentic. We would definitely recommend a visit for anyone that wants great food. Welldone staff and owner/owners.

The food was lovely and the service was amazing. We didn't have booked a table, it was busy but the waitress sat us down on the VIP room, so we had a little room for ourselves. Loved it

Me and my wife both had the 8oz rump Steaks last night, I had the Stilton and pineapple topper, the food was so divine, the waitresses were friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere was great. We will definitely be coming back here again.

If you like burgers/steaks etc there’s nowhere better in Torquay. My girlfriend and I eat there and every time the food is done to perfection. The people working there are all very friendly and nothing is too much bother for them. The actual place is done out very well and American style and there’s rock n roll music to add to the already great atmosphere. Thank you very much

This is my favourite place every year for my birthday we go to Torquay and book smokey joes for our favourite meal. The chef's knows exactly how you want your steak, like I love mine well done no blood showing & they cook it perfect not burnt on the outside & hard inside they do it perfect & it melts in your mouth it's perfect they have never in the past number of years of me going there have they ever let me down they are the best chefs ever . The ladies who served us was also brilliant they even put a birthday banner on the table they put a candle in your desert with the happy birthday song & because we ordered the same desert with exception of I had the cream & the other one was with ice cream & because they couldnt remember who's was who's they put a candle in both so how cute was that not leaving anyone out, they are brilliant there, They are also so polite & so helpful & so kind its so friendly there plus it's so clean & comfortable everything is just the best. Please don't miss out on this place but remember to book because it is always full there. This is a 10 out 10 even more if I could. Thank you all for once again making my night special at smokeys Joe's your the best. Thank you all so much. XxX

Had a lovely evening here this week. We were a party of 24 and we were all served at the same time by extremely friendly staff. Every meal was throughly enjoyed by all. Would definitely recommend eating here.

Had dinner with the family here. Food was amazing (we had steaks and burgers). Even the kids ate everything on their plate. Service was good, people were very friendly and helpful. Would certainly recommend going here if you like good food.

I visited with my family for dinner whist on holiday , we where greeted with a smile the restaurant is well themed with great music , the staff where all very friendly and helpful the food was excellent in-fact the best we had during our holiday i highly recommend it i am a chef so appreciate good food thank you !

We go to Smokey Joes once every few months and it is always good, but the last few times it has changed. Don`t know if they have a different chef but this time my steak was overdone. I had the starter of chicken tenders which were nice and it came with salad, a few strips of lettuce, my partner had garlic prawns which were overdone. I asked for peppercorn sauce with my steak which when my meal came it wasn`t there, so had to ask for it. Didn`t have a fork so had to ask for that. Didn`t have a pudding. The staff are nice and friendly and the tables are cleared quickly. The only thing i didn`t like was they had the door open and people were smoking by the door which came in.

Our first time visiting this place for evening meal. This place is a hidden gem the staff were friendly, warm and welcoming. The food was amazing and delicious I had the fullrack of ribs and my partner had the cluckin steak Had mac n cheese as a side order the portions value for money did not have roo. For desert. We pre-booked a table as on holiday went for evening meal. The staff were friendly and welcoming excellent service. The food was delicious and well worth the money I had the full rack of ribs and my partner had cluckin steak. There bbq sauce is amazing and very tasty had side order of mac and cheese . I recommend this resturant to anyone on holiday .

Best American food in Torquay had a meal here on our final night of holiday and I don't regret. I would have gone here again food was spot on and drinks. Friendly staff and if you like big portions say no more, happy staff and American food I recommend highly over Jack's. Also has lovely bit of rock and roll playing :). (UPDATE) Went here again in 2024 and cannot complain the staff again friendly and accommodating. I had steak and ribs and portions are not shy but the steak was perfection it made me melt. My partner had ribs and again delicious try the blue cheese sauce it's heaven. WORTH EVERY PENNY AND A VISIT.

Best place we found by far. Waitress was so lovely and helpful nothing was to much for her. We booked last minute and was welcomed no problem. Food was incredible. Only problem I would say is would love to see one open in London they are the only one around and are in torquay devon. Being from London I would drive the 5 hours for the food but having one closer would be very very helpful.

I have been here a few times now and each time it has been lovely. This time was slightly different. My starter was chicken tendels, which last time I had them came with salad, this time there was just the chicken, and they were a bit over done. I had steak next which was nice, my partner had Mac and cheese which was dry. He did say to a member of staff who gave us 10% of the bill. There could have been a different member of staff cooking that night, but we will probably go back to see if it is better.

Overall lovely place! I have a dairy intolerance and the waitress was very helpful letting me know what would be suitable for me to have. I was originally going to have the chicken but sadly they marinate all the chicken in yoghurt so that was off the list, I didn't fancy a burger without "cheese" and there wasn't an alternative for me. There was a vegan burger on the menu but from what I could see that was it. I had the steak and ribs which were lovely, large portions. Partner had a burger which was huge! Reasonable priced, steak and ribs were £27 I believe but you can tell its good quality. The decor is great, lots to look at. Would recommend for people to visit here.

Very nice quality steak at a reasonable price, mine was a bit over but lovely and juicy. We asked for fried onions instead of onion rings and they did them beautifully.

A quiet night as it was a weekday but that's ok, we were a noisy bunch. Our waiter was super polite, friendly and helpful. We all adored him. Our waitress was also fabulous. Food was blimmin gorgeous. I only had the eight ounce rump with Cajun fries and slaw, with garlic prawns for starters but still struggled to eat some bday cake! Reasonably priced and I like my steak at least medium so always ask for it rare just in case...it was nearer medium but lush! Everyone was really accommodating. We love Smokey Joe's. A regular celebration dinner venue. And they certainly did not disappoint. Thank you to all involved.

It was my boyfriend and I's first night in Torquay and we fancied steak so we found Smokey Joe's. I 100% recommend this place to anyone who is visiting Torquay. The steak was cooked perfectly, the BBQ sauce was so delicious and their cocktails were perfect (I personally recommend the Alabama Slammer).

Great restaurant, excellent food cooked to your taste good service and friendly staff. Easy location within short walking distance from the harbour

Had a really good meal and the service was excellent. However, it is pricey for what you get. Parking can be a problem if it's a busy time or weekend as all the payable spaces on the road outside are often already taken. There is a parking lot over at Living Coasts in the harbour but it's a good 5-10 minute walk back to the restaurant so allow plenty of time.

The staff here were brilliant very helpful . The food was absolutely phenomenal cooked to perfection on the 3 days i visited over Easter . I had fillet steak med rare with no glaze . I also had 2 bacon toppers as the bacon was that good . My family also joined me for one night and they said the same as me the food was phenomenal . Cant recommend this steak house enough . Complements to the chef. Cant wait to come back wish i lived closer.

So at first I wasn’t actually too keen on eating here but my boyfriend insisted on us eating here, I gave it a go and I was extremely happy with the outcome(my belly was happy too) I’d definitely come back here when I next visit the town!

Good service and great portion sizes. Can be busy so best to book in advance. Fairly priced for the quality of the food. Parking is available at the front or round the area. Good location should you wish for a stroll down the seafront. I will be back

There is nothing authentic about the food at all. Having a sauce bottle with Tesco written on it tells you all you need to know. The nachos had melted cheese only, nothing else other than small pot of BBQ sauce. The food was very disappointing all round. The meat cuts were cheap and not a butcher quality for the pricing. The ribs were equally as bad in quality as the steaks. it’s called Smokey Joe’s so you would expect a Smokey BBQ taste, alas it does not exist. The service was OK, nothing special. Safe your money and go somewhere else would be my advice.

Very nice food but be prepared for the smoke coming out of the kitchen. By the time we finished our food we were smelling of fried food.

My partner decided he would like to go here for his birthday. He had a great time. We had booked a table and arrived at the restaurant to be met by a few people stood right by the door, smoking. We asked them to move, which they did. We were met by a member of staff who showed us to our table. we ordered drinks, which came quickly. Ordered starters. Three of our party had starters, which was very nice but the prawns were over cooked. Mains came after about 15 minutes which was ok for us. All nice and you do get a lot for your money. All in all a great night and we will be returning. The place was clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't that busy. The only problem we found was the music. We think they should play country music as it is that kind of place and it did got louder as the night went on.

8 of us went here for a birthday meal. I’d asked in advance if it was ok to bring a cake and they had put a happy birthday banner on the table. The food came out hot and there are always huge portions. One of our table us accidentally ordered something spicy and they brought her out an alternative burger free of charge. AVOID! Food was mediocre to say the least but the customer service was even worse. People who arrived after me were being served before me, once i brought this to staffs attention i was urged to ‘be more patient’. You’ll be better off buying a frozen steak from Asda and cooking it yourself.
