Cotswald Grill in Cotswold

Hungry and thirsty after a long hike we came to Chipping Camden in seach of hearty fare. Sadly most places were closed or closing (at 230pm!) so we were happy to get a table at the Bistro on the Square. Given the prices - eg £20 for a burger or fish and chips - and attentive service I guess my expectation was higher. Moules Frites was OK but frites soggy. Fish and Chips OK but basic pub standard, Mushroom Ravioli OK but underseasoned, Caesar salad poor (inedible chicken) soggy sweet potato fries and some pork bites we send back as they were cold. Not terrible but I think you could do better in this town at this price. Dog friendly though!!

We stayed at the hotel with our dog so we ate here. All the staff were lovely, and enjoyed pandering to our hound. We were also looked after very nicely. The starters! AMAZING. Top quality food. The scotch egg was the best I’ve had. We were happy with the starters on both nights. We had the steak for the first evening and it was cooked and presented perfectly. The menu changed slightly over the two days so we had plenty of options. Congratulations to the chef and the team

Lovely cappuccino with shortbread biscuit. Other cafes around the area take note. It doesn't really take much to give a small biscuit with coffee especially when guests are expected to pay close to £5 for a coffee. So bistro on the square don't change you policy. Thank you.

Used to come here when living locally, at one time Hicks Brasserie. When we arrived there was a tech issue re card payments - no matter, we went to the the nearest cashpoint and obtained funds. Just as well we weren't in any hurry - service was, shall we say, relaxed, to the extent that one of us had to keep going up to the bar to get menus, order drinks, food etc as the staff were definitely in no rush to attend to the sparse number of diners (and there was no-one in the Fig restaurant when we looked). Pretty limited menu, however we'd booked and Chippy was busy so we stayed put. What we had (mains a kind of deconstructed Caesar salad, a couple of puds, plus a drinkie each - no offer of table water) was decent enough but not exactly generous and, given it was a Sunday, sadly no nod to any Sunday fayre. Overall, disappointing - and there are plenty of other options in CC.

We made a reservation several weeks ago - we were looking for a nice formal dining experience for the four of us, during our visit to Chipping Campden and the Fig restaurant appeared to offer that. I booked online, and rang specifically to confirm our reservation was at Fig (NOT the Bistro) So we were very disappointed to be telephoned at lunchtime yesterday, telling us we could not eat in Fig, as there was a wedding in that venue. We pointed out that that this could hardly be a new development, but were told that the people at reception would not have been aware of the wedding as it is a separate booking system! Had we been told weeks ago when we made the reservation, we could have come on for example the Friday instead. Or booked elsewhere. This was all rather gave the appearance of being very badly organised. But at this late point we had no choice but to accept the alternative offer of a table in the Bistro. On arrival we were offered both menus, which was fine. However, things soon went downhill. It was very evident that the staff were overwhelmed by the demands of the wedding party, leaving little time and attention for restaurant paying guests. Eventually we were also brought drinks and wine menus, and our order for both cocktails and food was taken simultaneously. Menus were removed, including the wine menu - we never saw it again. We became very frustrated seeing some of our own drinks ignored and waiting on the bar counter, whilst staff served a constant stream of wedding guests drinks instead. Eventually, after sitting at our table with only a glass of water each for 45 minutes, our starters arrived, closely follow by our cocktails - what we had planned to be our pre-dinner drinks. We were then obliged to eat our starters whilst drinking martinis - not actually a pleasant mix. Our starters plates were swiftly cleared and our main courses hurriedly arrived and we were still trying to drink our martinis! We never did get the chance to order wine. Visits from any staff were very hurried. The whole experience was becoming most irritating - it was plain that the staff, though nice enough, simply could not cope. But worse was yet to come - unfortunately a young bridesmaid was violently sick on the floor next to our table and whilst we can appreciate this was very unfortunate for the poor child, you can surely imagine how extremely unpleasant this was for us as diners. Despite pleas from her older sister, no member of staff came to any assistance to clear this up, and in the end the girls wedged the door open and left it there. This was by now intolerable for us, we called for the bill and paid and left. A member of staff offered to fetch the manager, but to be honest, we couldn’t wait to get out of the place. In summary, this has been one of the worst organised, and badly managed food situations we have ever had the misfortune to encounter. The staff did explain that the issues were due to the wedding - well if that is the case, they should not have taken any restaurant bookings. This should not have been our problem. As for leaving vomit on the floor next to diners, that is absolutely inexcusable. We were frankly, disgusted. There is no way we can recommend this poorly run estsblishment.

Abysmally slow service, provided by waiters that always seemed to be chatting, despite there being other tables waiting to be served. I've been a gourmet diner all my life and I can hardly remember such chaotic service. There was clearly no line of communication amongst the staff, as result two of our orders were wrong and the group had to leave hot food, grow cold waiting for the corrections on the previous two orders. That is despite the long wait for our drinks and food. General impression is there isn't real leadership or orientation for the young staff, that despite being polite were a bit lost and all over the place. Saw someone with spiky hair and suit, at one moment that looked like he could be a manager, but he ducked and scurried away as quickly as he appeared. Food on a whole was 'ok', this was a real let down. The food used to be really good, we dined there previously in the spring and summer and had really good experiences. It just seems unnecessarily over priced now.

I checked out the online menu before booking and was very impressed; always a deal breaker. On the night, we were not seated in the Bistro, but in the hotel dining room, and the menu was completely different and more expensive - too pretentious for our liking. I thought we were in the wrong restaurant and queried it with the waiter, but he said that the dining room and the Bistro were the same and had the same menu. I said that it wasn't the one I'd checked out online, and he apologised and said they hadn't updated it. As we had someone disabled with us, and it was getting late and I had no idea if there would be a table free at another restaurant nearby, we had to pay out the extra money for a menu we didn't want. The food was very nice, actually, when they got it right - I said I could not eat green garnish or leaves, but the food was served with them. I was beginning to despair by then. It was a joint 80th birthday celebration for our guests, but it turned out to be a rather fraught evening. I see that they have now updated their menu.

This was our first time in the Cotswolds, and we are so happy we chose this place for dinner on our first night in Chipping Campden. The food was excellent, as was the service. After a couple of nights in London we also appreciated the prices. A great value for a wonderful meal.

Everytime we visit the Cotswolds we eat at the Bistro on the Square. The food and service is always amazing and it is dog friendly. Brilliant place.

They seem to run the same menu for the bistro bit and the table cloth restaurant, this time we ate in the latter. Once again the food, service and presentation were spot on. Cheese souffle, sea bream and a cheese-cakey thing were all perfect, a couple of glasses of wine and a pot of tea, all done for about £90 and happy to pay it. I think this is the best in Campden.

Had a delicious sandwich here last Tuesday when many other eateries were closed. The food was fresh and the portion extremely generous. The downside was the lack of atmosphere and the fact that we could hear personal conversations between staff members. The manager who took our bill line was austere and lacked customer service qualities that could have enhanced our experience.

Booked a table here expecting the restaurant to be like a quaint, family run place and was really surprised to find an upmarket, posh eatery. The food was excellent and service was fantastic. We all enjoyed our food and had enough room for a dessert! If your looking for something posh but without the pretence, come here!

There is now a single menu for the Bistro and Fig. All the food was delicious - particularly enjoyed the cheese plate at the end of the meal. Staff dealt well with gluten-free allergy.

We were on our way to Highgrove and needed a coffe - this fitted the bill very well. Sat inside very close to the garden doors - good and attentive service. Coffee was very acceptable and there was a good choice of cakes.

Once we finally made to the place 15 minutes late due to multiple road closures, reduced speed due to chipping on the road and not being able to locate the restaurant in Chipping Campden, the stress was lifted off our shoulders as soon as we arrived by some very welcoming members of staff. The food was not only exquisite but very original. I am not particularly vegetarian but have thoroughly enjoyed their lentils croquette. In fact from the starters all the way to the desserts, you won’t be disappointed neither on quality or price at around £50 ahead for a 3-course meal with alcohol, I thought it was honestly priced.

Very nice restaurant with a good range of choice on the menu. The food when it came was well presented and delicious. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Really disappointing meal! Two friends and I went to celebrate our 50th birthdays on a weekend away. The food is under seasoned, over priced and served in tiny, mean, joyless portions. We complained after the starters - 3 of the smallest scallops I’ve ever seen (for £12) the waiter commiserated with us on the measly portion but absolutely nothing was done about it. The main courses were equally ungenerous- ‘buttered vegetables’ comprised two over cooked pieces of asparagus, 6 green beans and a teaspoon of spinach - with no butter) and my piece of Halibut (at £27!) measured about 4cm square. It’s one of those restaurants where you feel like they’re actually laughing at you for paying hugely inflated prices for deeply mediocre food. We left still feeling hungry and had toast at home. One of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I’ve had.

Dined on Thursday 20th May with 3 friends, extremely good food, perfect friendly attentive service it was busy, but the standards never faltered. Very good Bloody Mary ! Would definitely recommend!

We ate in the Bistro as the Fig restaurant is closed due to Covid, not disappointed, the food was amazing! We had a selction of starters, mains and couldn't resist dessert, great local gin and tonics too. This is not cheap but well worth every penny. A great way to start our trip to the Cotswolds.

We had been recommended The Fig for dinner but found that this hotel restaurant is now closed so we booked into the Bistro on the Square, also attached to the hotel. We were attracted to The Bistro by their HUGE selection of gins! We were asked if we wanted to sit in the restaurant rather than the bistro/bar area which was lovely as it was a very spacious, lovely room which had a ‘classier’ feel. Even though they were busy the staff were friendly and attentive. The food, especially the starters, was so tasty and a great selection of gins making choosing very hard! The pan fried duck breast main was enjoyed by both my husband and I. A lovely evening had, definitely would recommend.

Visited one evening for prosecco & nibbles. What a treat! The gentleman that served us was really professional & helpful. Lovely atmosphere & comfy seats. We had the pleasure of staying at the Cotswold Hotel last night and booked a table in their Bistro restaurant. Whilst the menu is undoubtedly simple, the food was beautifully cooked and presented and far exceeded our expectations.

Comimos aquí como estábamos parando en el hotel y una comida estaba incluido en el paquete. El menú es variado y quizás este es el problema. La iluminación es muy intenso y muy luminoso por lo tanto es más como un bar de vinos sin el vino. El servicio es pobre pedimos aceitunas y pan antes de empezar y llegó después de nuestros entrantes. Este es un restaurante caro para un nivel medio de la comida y el servicio.

El ambiente era relajado y el personal muy atento. Una habitación bastante moderno sin embargo, esperábamos más tradicional hasta el comedor. bistec era excelente, así como el cerdo local. Mi esposa y yo visitamos en la tarde del viernes 19 de septiembre. El restaurante estaba medio lleno. Amplio menú pero ambos decidimos para filetes, patatas fritas de culata, salsa de pimienta, ensalada y hongos verde que eran excelentes! Buena botella de Malbec argentino. Me terminó con una selección de quesos y mi esposa un tipo desierto tanto de cerezas, que estaban muy bien.

Both the crab and lamb croquette starters were very good, but the steak and pork mains were on the tough side, staff were rather formal and seemed to lack personality, smile a little:)

Nos alojamos en la calle en su hotel hermano y reservamos una mesa en la parrilla como alternativa. Tuvimos una comida agradable con un buen servicio y a un precio que sería de esperar en un hotel de esta categoría. Nuestros entrantes eran muy buenos: mi esposa disfrutamos el cangrejo y camarones su cóctel y mi parfait de hígado de pato era fabuloso. Ambos fuimos por el bistec y convino en que era espléndido, perfectamente preparado y muy sabrosa; mi de costilla era maravilloso y regados con una buena (y no demasiado caro) botella de South African Kleine Zalze red significaba una tarde perfecta. Siento tener que ver otros no ha tenido la misma experiencia, nos lo pasamos muy bien y recomendaría el Cotswold House Grill.

Hicimos la reserva en el restaurante principal que solo me dijeron que el día anterior que había sido reservado una doble para una función - no el personal comunicar? De todos modos, fuimos a comer en el Cotwold Grill. En primer lugar, el vino que eligió no era frío, así que tuvimos que esperar, luego nos dijeron que en realidad no nos dieron ese vino! Mi comida estaba cruda y quemada en el mismo tiempo. Cuando éste fue señalado a la atención del jefe de camareros, yo me explicaron que era de hecho tiernos, aunque como señalé 80% de mi pan estaba ennegrecido.

Cenamos en la parrilla como parte de una estancia de una noche en Cotswold House, que tiene unos jardines preciosos. Aunque la comida era excelente había algunos problemas. El menú ha cambiado desde la equilibrada que aparece en su sitio web y sus principales son ahora fuertemente carne centrado con la única opción de pescado pescado y patatas fritas. Tuve un rib-eye Steak, que era excelente y mi esposa tenía el cerdo-también excelente.me pidió un vegetal alternativo y ofrecieron greens de primavera que aparezca como ensalada hojas! Los aperitivos y dulces también estaban muy bien. Cuando nos pidieron que firmar la factura nos dimos cuenta de que había acusado de toda una botella de Rose mientras mi mujer sólo tenía una copa- no disculpa a ah I'll cambiar eso. También añadir cargos de servicio opcional que encontramos molesto- debería poder añadir lo que les corresponda. También parecía una falta de atmósfera esa noche. Dijo que el desayuno la mañana siguiente era excelente, así como el servicio. Entonces cuando nos marchamos el descuento ofrecido como parte de nuestra oferta no se habían tenido hasta destacamos. No cabe duda de que no es tan bueno como el de cuando estuvimos ca hace 2 años cuando estaba llegando a 5 personal de servicio y calidad. Tanto el Broadway Hotel y Matanzas Country Inn ahora mucho mejor opciones en nuestra vista.

Nos metimos en un Banco vacaciones lunes muy concurrido, con pocas expectativas. El menú es limitado en la elección, pero eso no es siempre una mala cosa - menos opciones bien a menudo funciona mejor. Nos sentamos en el bar y bebidas mientras elegir nuestra comida. La decoración, a pesar del exterior del edificio, es muy moderno y elegante.

Este restaurante es acogedor y cálido con amplio espacio para todos los comensales. Elegí un filete nada especial de bistec te oí decir. Sin embargo, la presentación y Creo de la participación era maravilloso.

Cenamos en el Cotswold Grill durante su estancia en el hotel. La comida era excelente. Había un menú variado que me siento sería adecuado para muchos gustos. Elegí el risotto de hongos salvajes y mi marido el bistec. El sabor general y la presentación no podría ser criticado. Lo más destacado de la comida tenía que ser los flanes. Tuve el cálido budín de arroz y mi marido el ruibarbo Panna cotta. El personal fue excelente y atento sin ser agobiante. Recomiendo encarecidamente.

We believe there is a new head chef in the restaurant - lets just say he has settled in very well - we both had 3 courses and every mouthfull was delicious, all restaurant staff could not do enough to ensure our visit was perfect

Excelente comida en el Grill, que es mucho más bonita que nombre sugiere! ambiente agradable, personal amable y servicial. sopa estaba muy bien servida con un toque de teatro. Tenía un filete de costilla, que era mejor filete que he tenido, se funde en la boca. No es barato, pero es una buena relación calidad-precio.

No estoy de acuerdo con todas las personas lo odio en the Cotswold Grill. Tuvimos una comida maravillosa allí, el personal era amable y atento, sin ser en absoluto pesado. El menú no es caro pero la comida era perfectamente ejecutados (en particular una tarta treacle) y las raciones eran bastante buena relación calidad-precio. Esta fue parte de nuestro paquete de hotel. buena comida y buen personal. la desventaja de que ésta era la principal arteria de algunas de las habitaciones de hotel. Además, en nuestra segunda noche tuvimos la mala suerte de tener un grupo en el bar que parecía intención en permitirnos "compartir" sus conversaciones telefónicas móviles. Nos dieron más!

Surly staff, we counted as many as customers. Order taken and we waited and waited..... feared the worse as the soup on the table next to us was sent back to the kitchen as it was only tepid and this took 20 minutes to return. No word of apology at the wait, no updates (there were 3 of us and we all ordered the same meal, slow roasted pork belly, so no extra complications for the kitchen), we waited and after almost an hour asked how much longer, just coming out, this equated to 10 minutes. Tiny portions and although the meat tender no crispy crackling, I asked could the chef do something with the rubbery top and told impossible to do! At home when I do this dish I place upside down in a hot pan and within a couple of minutes have crackling that crackles.

El Grill era completamente reservado para cenar tarde y el comedor más formal al lado lleno toda la noche, así que optamos por un 6,30 . ranura en la parrilla después de haber pasado algún tiempo compras y pasear por la preciosa Chipping Campden. El Grill tiene una brasserie moderno y está decorado con muy buen gusto con un ambiente relajante e informal. Pedimos pan caliente con aceitunas para empezar, los panes eran absolutamente delicioso. El Nos'de lo más bien un almuerzo tarde grande antes ONU el día así que esto de empezar era ideal. Mi plato era un delicioso pithivier Butternut squash asado y queso de cabra con una ensalada fresca, mi marido optamos por el cordero y menta hamburguesa con patatas fritas y varios encurtidos, que realmente disfrutamos. Me las arreglé para encontrar sitio para el postre, esto era un flan celestial de verano lleno de frutas y crema Chantilly preciosa al lado. Una comida encantadora con muy buen servicio de un caballero muy simpático que muy felizmente complicidad con mi marido sobre fútbol!!! Después de la cena tuvimos una agradable pasear por los hermosos jardines en la parte trasera del hotel. Sin duda volveríamos al Cotswold House hotel, reservar una habitación aquí y probar su comedor restaurante la próxima vez.

I chose the beer battered fish and chips which was a good size, well cooked and the fish was cooked to perfection. I followed this with summer fruit pudding and felt amply sufficed!

This was not my 1st visit to this establishment and on my previous trips I have been very satisfied however not this time.

Pleasant restaurant with friendly staff. Food was good, nicely presented and tasty. Reasonably priced wine.

Basic menu with pretty average food. When you get over charged and then under charged you feel like you are doing them a favour by pointing it all out, and being honest. I would not eat here again.

The waiting staff was very attentive and presentation of the food lovely. We had burgers and fish and chips, which were good, but not great. Still, the atmosphere and staff made up for it.

Very comfortable and relaxing bistro grill in which to sit and have lunch, a glass of wine and put the world to rights! Great food, good wine list, attentive service - and a living flame fire - marvellous!

Stopped off here for a quick lunch. The extensive menu left us a little spoilt for choice but what we eventually opted for did not disappoint. Staff were excellent and attentive. Would definitely return.
