Nice place for some tea and cake. Truly amazing banoffe pie. Love the vintage vibe and teapots. The staff was very friendly.

Overpriced for underwhelming sandwiches and overall poor service. I stayed in the hotel a few years ago and never got to try the bistro so wanted to try on this return visit to the area. Got served quickly and the waitress was pleasant but when I gave my honest feedback about the desert (completely bland and not as described at all on the menu) I expected her to 1. Apologise (not even one sorry was uttered) 2. Tell the chef (I suggested she do so) 3. Offer an alternative or offer to remove from the bill (neither action was taken). This is lack of training for staff. Don’t get your staff to ask if everything was ok - but then take zero action when you tell them it’s not. What’s the point? As another reviewer said, I could see why it was empty despite it being lunch time. Sadly will not be returning.

Terrible service. After sitting for 20 mins at our reserved table, we asked for menus and drinks, which then took another 20 mins to arrive. We were the only diners there so they definitely weren't busy! When the water arrived, the server spilled it into my sister's handbag. The bar was unattended. The soup was cold, the gravy with the pie was so thick you could slice it, and there wasn't even a suggestion of an artichoke in the artichoke gnocchi. When we asked to pay, they had no record of what we'd had, so we had to relay our order and wait another 15 mins while they confirmed it. There was clearly a very good reason it was empty. You couldn't pay me to go there again.

Great meal, feel portions should be larger for the cost but after 3 courses I was full. Ordered a cocktail which didn’t turn up and our sparking wine arrived with our mains which was also different to the one we ordered, good experience but room for improvement

Waited patiently at the bar for a drink, the barman was serving the person before me and acknowledged me waiting. Two other groups of people came in and got immediately served ahead of me by the same barman. Perhaps I wasn’t the right kind of person for this place, but I was made to feel completely unwelcome and won’t be returning

Rushed ! We had a table of four booked at 8 on a Saturday evening for a 50th birthday. First impressions of the hotel and bar area looked a little past its best and lacking in atmosphere. We were greeted and shown to our table in the fig restaurant which was not very warm and had only a few diners. The menu was varied and nice. Our waiting staff were very friendly and polite. But we had eaten our starters and mains within an hour of sitting down offered dessert before we’d finished licking our lips from our main. We did however ask for a breather and they left us alone for 20mins All four of us enjoyed our food but just felt it was all very rushed. I feel some of these restaurants are missing a trick as all hard work is done getting you through the front door only to rush you through and out as quickly as possible. If more time had been given between courses we definitely would have had another couple of bottles of wine and maybe after dinner drinks etc. Our spend could have been increased greatly. Just my opinion.

What a shame. The food was excellent when it arrived... 1 hr 15 after we sat down. Drinks were slow as well, and generally the staff were chaotic. And that was with only two other tables occupied. Could be great if they got their act together.

Very long wait for our 2 cocktails. 20 minutes. Worst disaronno sour I have had. Very sickly. Perhaps just a case of the wrong staff at the wrong time but to have a sign outside saying "best cocktails in town" I feel you should live up to this. Great shame as the music and atmosphere were nice. Having already chased the delivery of our cocktails we gave up commenting afterwards on their poor quality and just left.

We were there for a family wedding so didn't sample the Bistro's food. But the Latte was nice and hot the atmosphere was convivial and everyone had a great time at the wedding which was being hosted by the Hotel and Spa attached to the Bistro.

We were very disappointed with the standard of food here. It wasn't awful, but all of our party felt all dishes lacked seasoning and flavour. We had a cheese soufflé that had the thickness of a pancake and a very fatty steak. The male staff here are attentive, and courteous, the female member of staff not so. 2 x starters, 3 x mains, 2 x pud & btl very average white wine £200

Communicating with the waiters was not a pleasant experience, from overall taciturn attitude, to replying "no problem" to our "have a good night". The food was ok, but as many people here have already pointed out, not a good value for the price.

We came here for lunch, five adults and two dogs, and two tables were quickly put together for us in the window. The service was relaxed and unfussy but quick and efficient. Food excellent: I had the best mushroom soup ever, others had sandwiches which they thoroughly enjoyed. I heartily recommend this place.

Popped into Chipping Campden on our way home from a trek out. Although we've been to the town before (it's "chocolate box" pretty) we haven't eaten there. So during our stroll we eyed the various lunch menus on display and plumed for the very first we looked at... The Bistro On The Square. The place was moderately busy, nicely designed with a balance of modern and traditional decor best described as a "nice pub" feel. My friend and I chose from their warm sandwiches selection. She went for the pesto, mozzarella and sun-blushed tomato baguette, I the minute steak, mushroom, onion on ciabata. The food arrived after a short wait, nicely presented with some salad and fries. I can safely say we both thoroughly enjoyed our lunches. Whilst not the traditional "minute steak" but rather a slice of (sirloin?) steak cooked and then thinly sliced, it was tender, tasty and nicely cooked to still be pink. The onions were caramelized just the right amount and the mushrooms were sliced field mushrooms rather than those bland closed cup supermarket things. Whilst nothing exotic, what was served was well cooked and nicely presented. The bill was less than £30 for the two meals and two soft drinks so moderately priced to boot. 👍

Food was a let down unfortunately pork belly for £15 was about 5cm by 5cm cracking was soft and chewy with a massive layer of fat and the tiniest bit of meat. The other half had the duck breast unfortunately this was tolaly over kooked no pink to be seen. We mentioned this to staff and they did apologise and took the bottle of wine off the bill. This helped but just sadly disappointing in general.

Found this bar as we were looking around Chipping Campden. Most of the other bars/eating places in the town were either closed for lunch, or rather dire looking. This place looked nice and bright, and had a handsome collection of Gins. Alas as a driver I could not participate. Lunch was from a specials, or their standard menu. Service was quick. Food reasonable. I did like their cheese plate, lots of locally produced cheeses, nothing from a large National dairy.

Went here for dinner. Friendly staff, just not experienced. Starter was so so. Main course was excellent fish on crushed potatoes. Husband had perfectly cooked steak. Had to wait too long for drinks, they had a cocktail menu, didn't have the ingredients for a Mojito!! Service in general took too long, waitress looked very scruffy! Don't think we'll be going back.

We eat here regularly as locals. The staff are always welcoming, cheerful and very attentive. They, and the kitchen will go out of their way to try and accommodate requests. The food is always prepared to the highest standards with obviously freshly prepared ingredients. For example, even the tomatoes in their mozzarella and tomato salad ooze incredible flavour. Now that there are daily specials as well, there is a great variety of choice. Well done guys . Keep up the good work.

We had a fabulous series of visits to the Bistro! First night in Chipping Camden we had drinks with a friend staying at the hotel - delicious gin and tonics and good wine. They have a nice wine list featuring European wines. The gin is plentiful, and they offer gin tastings. We enjoyed delicious gin and tonics on both nights, including those using Cotswolds Gin! On our second night we ate at the restaurant. We arrived early, around 5 pm, after a day of traveling around the Cotswolds. We had a drink and then said we'd love to come back in an hour to have dinner - they said that was no problem (and this is a bank holiday)! We wandered off to a pub down the street (Eight Bells), which was suggested by the waitstaff. We had a great time having a glass of wine there, where we mixed with locals and visitors from near and far. We returned to the Bistro, which was pretty much full - except one table! They had held our table back, with three settings for dinner. We shared excellent food (and more g&ts!) including classic egg pasta with shaved truffle (yum!), the avocado and egg salad, and a side of lovely, buttered green beans. Overall, the meal has been the highlight meal of my trip to the England. The staff was fun, hardworking, and really made us feel welcome, even if the majority of the guests were "stiff upper lips" in regards to us having a fun time. If I return to Chipping Campden, I'm staying at this hotel and dining here for sure! A lovely experience!

Fresh food, great service, child friendly too, what more could you want from a restaurant serving Sunday Lunch. We've just come back from Sunday Lunch at Roots + Seeds in Cirencester. Crispy beer batter on the fish, really chunky chips (not fries) silky smooth mushy peas pretty much a perfect combination. The young front of house team have been well trained to make everyone feel welcome too.
