Côte York in York

Booked a table for 15 here for a social event, the booking was handled smoothly and could easily be amended over email. We were required to send our food orders over email prior to attending, which was no issue. The service was lovely, took a while to be seated and we weren’t really acknowledged when we came through the door which left a party of 15 people standing awkwardly in the entrance, however after the initial kerfuffle the waiters stayed kind and attentive all evening. Albeit the service was a tad slow since we were seated at the back of the restaurant, it was nothing too bad. The only complaint was that one of the members of our party never received his starter, however they sorted this out and the waiter took the food off of his bill. The food was amazing - the steak tartare was deliciously fresh, the sirloin was cooked perfectly rare, and the cafe de paris butter really complemented the rich flavour of the meat. Good cut of steak too, not unpleasantly fatty or stringy at all. Definitely recommend the mushroom sauce, it was the best mushroom sauce i’ve ever had. The chips were crispy, hot, and well seasoned. Waiters kept coming over to offer more water for the table. For large parties you can split the bill easily at the till and we had no issues. I would come here again.

Me and my friends had such a lovely night. The waitress Polly took great care of us and walked us through the menu giving us great sugestions ! The food was amazing and I'd highly recommend in the future.

We sat at a table at the front by the window of what is a very deep restaurant - a lovely setting - the staff was particularly friendly and responsive 👍. There was a wide range of food on offer : a Christmas menu, as well as the cheaper Prix Fixe menu and the À la Carte offerings. Delicious food in relaxed surroundings.

What an absolutely stunning meal in a pretty restaurant with great service. We came on Saturday the 14th from Manchester and had two courses each. The food was absolutely beautiful in presentation and taste, the staff were so friendly and had amazing service. I’d give 6* if I could - it was the best restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time! If we’re ever back in York we’ll definitely be visiting again.

Visited 13th December 2024. Our reservation was for 7pm for three persons. Due to traffic we phoned ahead to advise we would be late. When we arrived we were greeted by a female head of house who was quite rude and had no message passed to her. It quickly became apparent she had given our table away. Food was lively shame about the initial greeting, we would not visit again.

Really nice for a chain restaurant. We had the lunch fixed price menu, it was well cooked and presented, the service was friendly and fast. Unfortunately half way through our meal a group of three couples arrived, they were very loud which made us and quite a few other guest uncomfortable. I think it would have been appropriate if the staff would have reminded them there is no need to shout. After our main we had to ask to change the table.

Had the most beautiful afternoon catching up with a friend. Polite and knowledgeable team. Food and wine superb. Will definitely be returning in the new year.

If you're staying in York, this is where you should eat! From the second we arrived, you could feel the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the room, something that was present in each staff member. We were asked where we preferred to sit (something I really liked and I feel makes a big difference) and I noticed this was offered to each group as they arrived. Every member of the team really knew their job and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work, from the general manager, right through. They were so attentive, we asked for more water and before you could count to ten, it was there. The food was perfectly cooked and presented, the calamari starter in particular was amazing and the serloin was so tender! The price is VERY reasonable for the quality of the food and the service you receive, there's no wonder the place was full all night. I wish I was a local so I could visit more often and try more things on the menu. Thank you to the team for making it a special night. There's a real passion for what they do and it shows... 10/10

Went for a meal on a busy Friday night which is probably why the service was very slow. The food itself is nice but not exceptional. But then it’s not too expensive. I had the Breton fish stew which I was so excited about but in the end it was all a little underwhelming. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great.

The visit to Côte started off as very promising. Wait staff were initially attentive and our drinks and mains orders were taken and arrived quickly, and the food was excellent. However after that it completely changed. It took forever for the waiting staff to take away our empty plates, with many of them just walking past and not even taking any notice of us. Eventually, plates were taken away, and we had hoped to order dessert, but got another long wait just to get menus. By this point we had decided it wasn't worth ordering dessert because we felt like we had basically been forgotten, but then of course we had an additional wait firstly to get the bill and then again to pay (by which point we asked for the service charge to be removed because who wants to reward people for such terrible service?). A real shame as the food was so good, but we wouldn't go to this Côte again. Terrible service ruins a nice meal.

First time experience and I loved it, the atmosphere was cosy and warm, authentic. Staff were lovely and attentive. The food certainly didn't disappoint, I had the fillet steak and it was cooked to perfection. I can't wait to go back

In my opinion is the best french restaurant in York. I tried the Boeuf Bourguignone as well as the steak minute. Both really tasty. Delicious appetizers and very good and formal service.

Had a really lovely experience at Cote. The food is fabulous. I had cheese soufflé to start my boyfriend had scallops. My main was Moules Frites, and my guy had beef cheek bourginon. All presented beautifully. The atmosphere slightly lacking for me because we were in the end room and I was a little chilly. It was a Sunday evening, so quiet in the back. It was warmer in the front. I would ask to sit there next time.

We've been to many Cote restaurants around the country. All very nice, but this is the best we've found. Been here a number of times. We went to York for a hotel break saturday before I start chemo. We had the best night. It was busy, but the atmosphere was brilliant. Food was first rate and arrived in a timely manner despite being very busy thanks to Josh the waiter who was brilliant. He never stopped all night and had such enthusiasm for the job. The deputy manager came and had a chat with us and looked after us making sure we got a great service and ordered our taxi and escorted us out to it. First rate service that made it a very special night for us when we needed it. Thank you very much, we'll be back soon. Eddie and Denise.

I usually not go to big chain restaurant and cote reminded me why. Onion soup was ok but cheese and bread go in then gratinated not served on the side. Ordered a whole chicken as Sunday roast. It doesn’t come as described. You get 2 small legs and 2 breasts (so. It a whole chicken) that have been reheated separately and off the bone. The chicken gets dry and you don’t have that juiciness of the chicken just taken carved. Unfortunately our “crispy confit potatoes” weren’t cooked enough and still crunchy (it’s actually more of a hash brown), these were sent back and came back after some time in the fryer but still crunchy inside. No dessert were order as the joke was lasted long enough. No apologies not anything to make up for it. Best thing of the meal … Brest and butter (chargeable though). Will pas next time.

We dined at Côte York twice this week. The first time was excellent. The service was amazing as was the food. The second time, which was for my birthday, was not so good. Service was slower despite the restaurant being less busy and we had to ask for plates for the bread etc. also the table behind was incredibly loud and the language was disgusting. Not such an enjoyable experience the second time round unfortunately

It's possibly one of the best steak restaurants I've had the pleasure to dine at. Steak was gorgeous, and the camembert was to die for. The creme caramel was the icing on the cake. Five stars is a bitter insult. Six stars would be more fitting. Also they're very reasonably priced.

First time and definitely not last! From the warmed XO to begin the festivities, to the raspberry elderflower crème brulé to finish. We were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of our dining experience. Although just visiting York, we shall not hesitate in frequenting again or trying out another one of their locations. 10\10

Lovely restaurant, relaxing atmosphere, staff are very attentive and the food was incredible!. We had the steak to share with two fries and two sides. It was well worth it. If you're after a treat I'd highly recommend this place. We visited for my partners birthday.

Although the place was empty, the service received was very slow and I had to ask for everything needed and for the next courses. The set menu for the kids is ridiculous, baked pasta covered with onion. I ate before in COTE restaurant and was much better value for money.

The steak I ordered was very bad. And it was cooked well done, although I order it medium. The service is bad. They gave us a wrong order. We told them twice that this was not what we ordered but the waitresses said it is what we ordered. When we insisted and asked for the menu they realized their mistake. They always say they ran out of crème caramel, when they actually didn’t.

Excellent service, beautiful interior and fantastic food. No complaints at all, it was a lovely lunch.

Food was luke warm and the server spilled milk on my husband and didn't even notice...for what I paid £35 pound for I could of got hotter food at half the price at macdonalds...sorry cote won't be coming back.

Food was absolutely sublime, couldn't fault it. The Duck was amazing, fell apart and full of flavour. Very attentive team upon arrival and a free glass of bubbles for us for our anniversary and partners birthday. It was busy so I feel the team seemed stretched when trying to accommodate each table in a quick manner but all in all 10/10 as always. Customer experience wise has been better in previous times but I can accept it was busy and the team did their best, but did congratulate us upon Arrival an said happy birthday. Will definitely be dining there again. 😘👌🏼

Fabulous meal at this lovely restaurant staff go above and beyond

An enjoyable lunch place. Two course lunch menu was well presented with adequate size portion. The ambience was relaxing and quiet. Clean bathroom. They do add a service charge.

Was gifted a voucher for a special birthday. Visited Saturday morning for champagne breakfast. The eggs royale were delicious with the glass of champagne. Followed by a wonderful latte. Service good and pleasant rest room. Nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

From start to finish everything was wonderful our server Zack was full of recommendations and really helpful anytime we wanted anything at all.

Went on Sat 1st June. From initial booking, my follow up queries, my visit earlier in the day and the actual meal. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE were amazing. Wish I lived closer. Zac, our waiter, was fantastic - made the evening so special for my mum's 80th birthday. Thank you all at Cote York x

Excellent service the food was excellent and my pork was lovely slow cooked tender and my caramel tart with my ice cream was lovely and I had a lovely time I will come back again soon

Worse meal ever had in Cotes - chicken over cooked , steak Fites was 1/3 gristle, obviously not not got a decent chef in this particular Cotes . Complained the head of service then avoided us ! Very bad. Plenty of of other restaurants in York avoid this one .

Really enjoyed our late lunch at Cote today. There was a reasonably priced 2 course meal which was tasty and perfectly presented. The wine was delicious. Can recommend the Columbard at £22.50 from the white wine list. Love the ambiance of the place and was lucky enough to get a window seat to watch the world go by. The staff were very welcoming and attentive with a great sense of humour and good will from Joe. A true gent. Thank you for making our day trip to York so special. As we were just visiting York we thought we may be under-dressed for the restaurant but we were in fact made more than welcome, the staff certainly know there stuff and was reassuring, how polite they were and the food was amazing and fantastic value, I couldn't have been more pleased

Very friendly waiter The food was OK but a shame not to be able to choose how it was cooked. The tarte tatin was excellent in taste, but visually it was not much of a tart. However, I recommend!

We have just arrived back at our hotel after a visit to Cote in York. We are in the city celebrating our anniversary and fancied somewhere we've never tried before for our evening meal out. We are so glad we chose Cote. The staff were super friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was cosy and the food was delicious. We're both veggie and went for the onion soup and souffle to start and for mains we chose the ratatouille and mushroom bourguignon. The bourguignon had fable mushrooms which are packed full of flavour. The cocktails were really refreshing and well made too. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would definitely visit again. Thank you to our server, bartender and chef for such a lovely evening :)

Such lovely warm atmosphere, food was divine and portion size was fabulous and for the quality, not over priced. Ordered was the faugasse (garlic bread) soft and fresh and well seasoned. Also had confit pork belly aswell as beef cheek bourguignon. Beef fell apart and was delicious! Both were wonderful and a side of frites. Staff were really polite and smiley and didn’t wait long for food.

Hello Me and two friends ate her, tonight, for the first time. We came in coz it was quiet, compared to everywhere else! We enjoyed the dècor and ambience very much. •I had French Onion soup and a portion if truffle chips - it was excellent soup with real depth of flavour. The Comté croutes were lovely - as were the chips. All piping hot. •One friend had baked ratatouille with the beans almondine. Piping hot and totally delicious. •His wife had moules and frites. They were lukewarm at best - as was the broth they were in and the frites. We summoned a waitress (I think she may have been French or Italian? Long, dark hair tied back) She apologised profusely and returned, 10 minutes later with a new dish of piping hot moules and broth and chips and a further (sincere apology). When the bill arrived you didn't charge for the moules - we'd have gladly paid! We found the menu competitively priced. I'll leave this same review on social media and Trust Pilot. We'll return and will recommend to our friends.

This was a last minute booking whilst in York and our first visit. The food, service and wine were all excellent. We had three courses, which I rarely do and all courses were amazing. We will definitely be back!

Very poor standard of food and over priced for what we ordered. I ordered a chargrilled chicken salad but what actually came was smelly, tough, and unseasoned PORK made to look like chicken and which I almost sent back. I left most of it and so was charged £13 + for a very expensive bowl of rocket leaves. PORK? I hate Pork and the smell of unseasoned Pig was unmistakeable. My husband ordered fish pie which was so minute it would not have satisfied a childs portion. Very expensive, very poor quality, AND THEY EXPECT CUSTOMERS TO ACCEPT IT??? Will not be going back. It was my 60th and it has left a very bad taste in my mouth, quite literally!! Yours disgruntled. Should have gone to M&S!!!! An £80 shop would have filled our fridge.

The Sunday lunch was good and very well cooked! Unfortunately, even though the platters were supposed to be shared in twos they were not near enough food for two growing teenage boys. I wish the waiter had warned us than let us order them and then have to also order supplementary mains.

Fantastic food, service and location

We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival, and despite the bustling Saturday atmosphere in York, the establishment efficiently accommodated our party of four as walk-in guests. The ambiance was delightful, the culinary offerings were of exceptional quality, and the service was commendable. Additionally, the cleanliness of the facilities, including the restroom facilities, was remarkable. Overall, it was a highly enjoyable evening of dining. Our compliments extend to the chefs for their remarkable culinary creations.

Came here for our 10th anniversary and had a great night. Service was outstanding from the second we came in, received a complimentary glass of bubbly for our anniversary, but they saw my fiance was pregnant and gave her a non-alcoholic one. My partner asked for tomatoes (a craving) to be added to her salad and not only did they duely oblige but when the waitress came back round and saw how many she had, she brought an extra bowl of them out. Food was very good and extremely well priced for what you would normally pay for this type of food.

4 of us, my brother and I with our partners, shared a lovely New Year's Day dinner in York on Monday. The restaurant had a welcoming ambience, though there weren't many diners as the weather was bad. Myself and my partner are both coeliacs .We love Côte because here there is a dedicated gluten-free menu , which the staff had ready for us on arrival. This makes such a difference from other restaurants who claim they can offer suitable food, but when your meal arrives, many items have been removed because they contain gluten or worse still , the staff have forgotten to mention your needs to the kitchen. I ordered the fish pie, which was delicious and piping hot whilst my partner had the poule gratin, which he really enjoyed. My brother tucked into the boeuf bourguinon whilst his partner very much liked her quiche Lorraine. We chose various sweets afterwards , including the delicious ice cream, followed by coffees. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and we had a lovely evening. Our only regret is that our nearest Côte, in Leeds, closed down
