Had the most amazing meal at Cote York tonight. Staff were so friendly & welcoming despite it being a very busy Friday night. Food was incredible, totally different choices, cooked to perfection & decent portions. Made a special night even more special for us. Will definitely visit next time we are in York. Thank you so much to Daniel for being so attentive & friendly.

We visited on 16/02 at about 10-11am. The head waitress (maybe manager? dark hair up in a bun, floral shirt) was exceptional. She was understaffed due to employees not turning up/being late and she still managed to provide us with the best service. We didn’t have to wait long to be served or for our food to arrive even after she apologised in advance for a possible delay. There were several tables to be served and she did most of it on her own with such welcoming and friendly attitude. Food was lovely, coffee was great and she made our experience that much more enjoyable.

Really lovely staff, nice and romantic place. The BEST oysters I've had, absolutely huge and delicious! First time I tried steak tartare and it was delicious! Good selection of wines and cocktails and non-alcoholic alternatives. (Fries were really good too!)

Phoned ahead to enquire about allergies and my safety - the lady on the telephone was very helpful and informative - I was impressed that my details were held on file (presumably after dining in Norwich restaurant) Our waiter was attentive, friendly and double checked everything for me and nothing was too much trouble. End result? A superb meal, fillet steak was spot on, excellent service and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back when in York - thank you for a great experience 😊

Enjoyable visit, good food, great service

I’m extremely satisfied with the restaurant. There are 2 and 3 courses menus available which I recommend. We had the steak tartare, the pate and the whitebait as starters. For dinner we had the duck, the sirloin steak and the steak frites. All of this was extremely delish. The service was great, our waiter explained the menu and suggested some of her favourite dishes. And for dessert we had chocolate mouse and a banana crepe which was also quite tasty. I recommend this place and would come again next time I’m visiting York.

Front of house quickly seated us, ahead of our booking, and the drinks arrived quickly. Then it went downhill in regards to service. Only one set of cutlery was laid out on the table, one of the mains was a tad dry, but the starters and the confit pork was delicious. The plates were cleared with no offer of desserts, then we didn't see a member of staff until we got bored of waiting 25 minutes and decided to find someone to pay the bill. Unfortunately this is sub par for Cote, the previous locations we've been to have been superior, but this one has let its reputation down.

We were greeted warmly by the staff and the waiter was attentive to our dietary needs. We chose the fixed menu for lunch. The food (pumpkin soup, steak frites, mushroom casserole) and drink (carafe of merlot) were excellent. We shall certainly return!

Visited in December, some of us ate off the lunch menu and some off the main menu. The service was a little slow and we were sat in the middle of the room at the front of the restaurant so there were lots of people sat round us and walking past us, so it was noisy.The food however, was very good. And as usual in all branches, the GF options and attention to detail was great.

We had an amazing time here The staff are really good and the food is fantastic as well . Looking forward to my next visit.

I don't normally leave reviews but i had to do this, myself and my family were in the restaurant on the Christmas eve, the food we had were all recommended by our waiter, Richmond. From starter to desert was brilliant. We had Chardonnay that was also recommended by our waiter. Our only issue was with the music it was a little too loud. All the same we had the best time of our lives. We will surely be coming back.

It was our 3rd visit in the past year and all times have been great. So I’m confident to recommend and visit again.

Booked this restaurant as a treat for myself and my partner after a busy Christmas period at work the service was that horrendous we both walked out after sitting for 20 minutes without even been offered a drink in a restaurant with 6 people sat in total! Absolutely disgusting service will not ever return

I pre-booked a table at this restaurant for Friday, January 3rd, and I was extremely disappointed with the service. Upon arrival, we were shown to a table right at the bar, where we expected to have a nice meal. However, we were left waiting for 25 minutes without anyone even acknowledging us or asking if we wanted drinks or to place our order. What made it worse was that the restaurant was not busy at all, and I could see the staff gathered around the bar, chatting about food poisoning. It was quite unsettling and unprofessional. After waiting even longer without any service, we decided to leave. I was willing to enjoy a nice meal and spend money here, but the service was absolutely shocking. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Save your time and find somewhere that values its customers!

Fantastic staff, well executed dishes, and an interior designer at some point. Cote never fails to deliver and did again. Reasonably priced, there’s no where like it. 10/10

Surprised at the good reviews for this 'restaurant'. We ate here over the Xmas period and felt it was verging on mediocre. We paid over £200 and left still feeling hungry! Also the so called deluxe steak; was anything but - 6 pieces each of fatty gristly meat and a few thin chips! Also the service was slow and quite unfriendly/unsmiling. Not at all French feeling either. A real disappointment and a complete rip off.

Me and my friends had such a lovely night. The waitress Polly took great care of us and walked us through the menu giving us great sugestions ! The food was amazing and I'd highly recommend in the future.

Booked a table for 15 here for a social event, the booking was handled smoothly and could easily be amended over email. We were required to send our food orders over email prior to attending, which was no issue. The service was lovely, took a while to be seated and we weren’t really acknowledged when we came through the door which left a party of 15 people standing awkwardly in the entrance, however after the initial kerfuffle the waiters stayed kind and attentive all evening. Albeit the service was a tad slow since we were seated at the back of the restaurant, it was nothing too bad. The only complaint was that one of the members of our party never received his starter, however they sorted this out and the waiter took the food off of his bill. The food was amazing - the steak tartare was deliciously fresh, the sirloin was cooked perfectly rare, and the cafe de paris butter really complemented the rich flavour of the meat. Good cut of steak too, not unpleasantly fatty or stringy at all. Definitely recommend the mushroom sauce, it was the best mushroom sauce i’ve ever had. The chips were crispy, hot, and well seasoned. Waiters kept coming over to offer more water for the table. For large parties you can split the bill easily at the till and we had no issues. I would come here again.

What an absolutely stunning meal in a pretty restaurant with great service. We came on Saturday the 14th from Manchester and had two courses each. The food was absolutely beautiful in presentation and taste, the staff were so friendly and had amazing service. I’d give 6* if I could - it was the best restaurant experience I’ve had in a long time! If we’re ever back in York we’ll definitely be visiting again.

We sat at a table at the front by the window of what is a very deep restaurant - a lovely setting - the staff was particularly friendly and responsive 👍. There was a wide range of food on offer : a Christmas menu, as well as the cheaper Prix Fixe menu and the À la Carte offerings. Delicious food in relaxed surroundings.

Visited 13th December 2024. Our reservation was for 7pm for three persons. Due to traffic we phoned ahead to advise we would be late. When we arrived we were greeted by a female head of house who was quite rude and had no message passed to her. It quickly became apparent she had given our table away. Food was lively shame about the initial greeting, we would not visit again.

A lovely restaurant with a varied menu. Very good service and food. I had the pan-fried salmon bernaise and would recommend it.

Really nice for a chain restaurant. We had the lunch fixed price menu, it was well cooked and presented, the service was friendly and fast. Unfortunately half way through our meal a group of three couples arrived, they were very loud which made us and quite a few other guest uncomfortable. I think it would have been appropriate if the staff would have reminded them there is no need to shout. After our main we had to ask to change the table.

Had the most beautiful afternoon catching up with a friend. Polite and knowledgeable team. Food and wine superb. Will definitely be returning in the new year.

If you're staying in York, this is where you should eat! From the second we arrived, you could feel the friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the room, something that was present in each staff member. We were asked where we preferred to sit (something I really liked and I feel makes a big difference) and I noticed this was offered to each group as they arrived. Every member of the team really knew their job and seemed to genuinely enjoy their work, from the general manager, right through. They were so attentive, we asked for more water and before you could count to ten, it was there. The food was perfectly cooked and presented, the calamari starter in particular was amazing and the serloin was so tender! The price is VERY reasonable for the quality of the food and the service you receive, there's no wonder the place was full all night. I wish I was a local so I could visit more often and try more things on the menu. Thank you to the team for making it a special night. There's a real passion for what they do and it shows... 10/10

Went for a meal on a busy Friday night which is probably why the service was very slow. The food itself is nice but not exceptional. But then it’s not too expensive. I had the Breton fish stew which I was so excited about but in the end it was all a little underwhelming. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was great.

The visit to Côte started off as very promising. Wait staff were initially attentive and our drinks and mains orders were taken and arrived quickly, and the food was excellent. However after that it completely changed. It took forever for the waiting staff to take away our empty plates, with many of them just walking past and not even taking any notice of us. Eventually, plates were taken away, and we had hoped to order dessert, but got another long wait just to get menus. By this point we had decided it wasn't worth ordering dessert because we felt like we had basically been forgotten, but then of course we had an additional wait firstly to get the bill and then again to pay (by which point we asked for the service charge to be removed because who wants to reward people for such terrible service?). A real shame as the food was so good, but we wouldn't go to this Côte again. Terrible service ruins a nice meal.

In my opinion is the best french restaurant in York. I tried the Boeuf Bourguignone as well as the steak minute. Both really tasty. Delicious appetizers and very good and formal service.

Had a really lovely experience at Cote. The food is fabulous. I had cheese soufflé to start my boyfriend had scallops. My main was Moules Frites, and my guy had beef cheek bourginon. All presented beautifully. The atmosphere slightly lacking for me because we were in the end room and I was a little chilly. It was a Sunday evening, so quiet in the back. It was warmer in the front. I would ask to sit there next time.

We've been to many Cote restaurants around the country. All very nice, but this is the best we've found. Been here a number of times. We went to York for a hotel break saturday before I start chemo. We had the best night. It was busy, but the atmosphere was brilliant. Food was first rate and arrived in a timely manner despite being very busy thanks to Josh the waiter who was brilliant. He never stopped all night and had such enthusiasm for the job. The deputy manager came and had a chat with us and looked after us making sure we got a great service and ordered our taxi and escorted us out to it. First rate service that made it a very special night for us when we needed it. Thank you very much, we'll be back soon. Eddie and Denise.

I usually not go to big chain restaurant and cote reminded me why. Onion soup was ok but cheese and bread go in then gratinated not served on the side. Ordered a whole chicken as Sunday roast. It doesn’t come as described. You get 2 small legs and 2 breasts (so. It a whole chicken) that have been reheated separately and off the bone. The chicken gets dry and you don’t have that juiciness of the chicken just taken carved. Unfortunately our “crispy confit potatoes” weren’t cooked enough and still crunchy (it’s actually more of a hash brown), these were sent back and came back after some time in the fryer but still crunchy inside. No dessert were order as the joke was lasted long enough. No apologies not anything to make up for it. Best thing of the meal … Brest and butter (chargeable though). Will pas next time.

We dined at Côte York twice this week. The first time was excellent. The service was amazing as was the food. The second time, which was for my birthday, was not so good. Service was slower despite the restaurant being less busy and we had to ask for plates for the bread etc. also the table behind was incredibly loud and the language was disgusting. Not such an enjoyable experience the second time round unfortunately

It's possibly one of the best steak restaurants I've had the pleasure to dine at. Steak was gorgeous, and the camembert was to die for. The creme caramel was the icing on the cake. Five stars is a bitter insult. Six stars would be more fitting. Also they're very reasonably priced.

First time and definitely not last! From the warmed XO to begin the festivities, to the raspberry elderflower crème brulé to finish. We were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of our dining experience. Although just visiting York, we shall not hesitate in frequenting again or trying out another one of their locations. 10\10

Lovely restaurant, relaxing atmosphere, staff are very attentive and the food was incredible!. We had the steak to share with two fries and two sides. It was well worth it. If you're after a treat I'd highly recommend this place. We visited for my partners birthday.

Although the place was empty, the service received was very slow and I had to ask for everything needed and for the next courses. The set menu for the kids is ridiculous, baked pasta covered with onion. I ate before in COTE restaurant and was much better value for money.

The steak I ordered was very bad. And it was cooked well done, although I order it medium. The service is bad. They gave us a wrong order. We told them twice that this was not what we ordered but the waitresses said it is what we ordered. When we insisted and asked for the menu they realized their mistake. They always say they ran out of crème caramel, when they actually didn’t.

Excellent service, beautiful interior and fantastic food. No complaints at all, it was a lovely lunch.

Food was absolutely sublime, couldn't fault it. The Duck was amazing, fell apart and full of flavour. Very attentive team upon arrival and a free glass of bubbles for us for our anniversary and partners birthday. It was busy so I feel the team seemed stretched when trying to accommodate each table in a quick manner but all in all 10/10 as always. Customer experience wise has been better in previous times but I can accept it was busy and the team did their best, but did congratulate us upon Arrival an said happy birthday. Will definitely be dining there again. 😘👌🏼

Food was luke warm and the server spilled milk on my husband and didn't even notice...for what I paid £35 pound for I could of got hotter food at half the price at macdonalds...sorry cote won't be coming back.

An enjoyable lunch place. Two course lunch menu was well presented with adequate size portion. The ambience was relaxing and quiet. Clean bathroom. They do add a service charge.

Was gifted a voucher for a special birthday. Visited Saturday morning for champagne breakfast. The eggs royale were delicious with the glass of champagne. Followed by a wonderful latte. Service good and pleasant rest room. Nice way to spend a Saturday morning.

From start to finish everything was wonderful our server Zack was full of recommendations and really helpful anytime we wanted anything at all.

Went on Sat 1st June. From initial booking, my follow up queries, my visit earlier in the day and the actual meal. EVERYTHING and EVERYONE were amazing. Wish I lived closer. Zac, our waiter, was fantastic - made the evening so special for my mum's 80th birthday. Thank you all at Cote York x

Excellent service the food was excellent and my pork was lovely slow cooked tender and my caramel tart with my ice cream was lovely and I had a lovely time I will come back again soon

Worse meal ever had in Cotes - chicken over cooked , steak Fites was 1/3 gristle, obviously not not got a decent chef in this particular Cotes . Complained the head of service then avoided us ! Very bad. Plenty of of other restaurants in York avoid this one .
