Cote Brasserie - Hampstead in Camden

We used to come to Cote every couple of months and always enjoyed it but the last visit was pretty awful. The staff were pleasant but the food was terrible. The chicken was almost unrecognisable - it looked like it had been frozen and thawed several times and actually looked a bit like an omelette , there was a fairly dire salad and a fish pie type dish that was very overcooked and again appeared to have been frozen. The steak and chips were still reasonably good. Finally we had the soggiest, most tasteless tart tatin - everything was mushy. Very disappointing and we won't be back which is a shame.

Had breakfast today. Ordered salmon and eggs with a side order of spinach. Eggs were scrambled and fine. Sourdough toast (unbuttered) also okay. The smoked salmon was horrible. Very salty, scrappy slimy bits which looked and tasted as though they had been defrosted, re-frosted and defrosted several times.the spinach was interesting: half cooked, by which I mean half of the serving was cooked and the other half raw. If you like spinach salad, fine. Otherwise, rather off-putting. The coffee was okay. I think in future I’ll stick to Oliver’s in Belsize Lane - consistently good and better value for money.

The steak was super cold and it felt intentionally and spiteful done. The staff were fakely nice then gave super cold food. Didn't say anything I'm case my food was spat on! Never again horrible

Perfect meal, fair prices and very attentive and interested service. Cannot fault the meals - they are very fairly priced with what seems to ve the same level of overhead as places double the cost.

Visited for a birthday brunch on a Sunday and the service was poor from start to finish. Completely disorganised staffing - we were served by a different staff member for every interaction, clearly no sectioning meaning staff were running around panicked trying to manage every single table. Male manager/supervisor was rude to both staff and customers. Drinks (tea and coffee) took 20 minutes to arrive, and only arrived when we prompted a member of staff once we saw them waiting on the bar. We ended up asking 3 different members of staff for tap water before we received any. A lady on a table nearby received a full English instead of a vegetarian breakfast and had to physically stand up and wave to get anybody's attention to fix the issue. Food itself was lovely but the fried eggs came basically raw, so we had to request them to be redone. Manager decided to come over and apologise once we'd already paid and were ready to leave, and offered a meagre excuse that "they were busy" - I counted 12 tables including ours and at least 5 servers on shift, which in my experience is overstaffed if anything.

Artur and his team at Cote Hampstead looked after our group of 25 retired nurses with great kindness and efficiency. It was our 50 year reunion and small details really mattered. The staff were friendly and thoughtful and we were able to arrive early and set the tables with our own flowers, table napkins and name badges, plus lay out old photos and memorabilia. Everyone said their food was delicious, and there was no problem with people having 1, 2 or 3 courses. 18 of us left for a walk after 2.5 hours, the others stayed and were made very welcome for another 1.5 hours. Great service, great value, we will definitely go back. Thank you, Artur and team.

First visit back to this branch in 4 years after a bad meal. Food not even as good as before, wasn't impressed at all. Had an £80 Cote voucher from the visit 4 years ago which was not honoured. Yes it was expired but what with Covid and we had lost the voucher I would have thought Cote Head Office would be cooperative. Sadly they were not helpful so we won't be going back again. How not to treat returning customers.

Comfortable and with charming service but the menu seemed difficult in having too few realistic choices. In such circumstances, one is sometimes driven to have three starters in place of one starter and one main. But, this worked alright here - but one would not rush back for a dinner.

Food was very appetising and the waitresses were amazing. I came with my mother and we were taken cared of well! we had an amazing time, however our evening got a little disturbing until one of the chefs were arguing with the waitress at the kitchen window. A lot of shouting was coming from the kitchen end and the waitress was almost bullied by their own colleague.

The welcome was good - the service average. The bread served which is not complimentary, was too hard and not served warm. The Calamari was tasty and the mains portion of Chicken plentiful. One of the mains out of 3 was brought to the table half way through starter. We waited a long time to order our dessert. 80% of the staff seemed to be more wrapped up in flirting and joking with each other rather than seeming attentive to customers. It was not rush hour dinner service at this point so perhaps they wanted to have fun before the rush! Although it was very obvious the 20% of staff did not want to be tarnished with the same brush unfortunately couldn’t carry off an overall good service. I would not return here for dinner, but would come back for an unplanned lunch! Thank you.

Lovely lunch with family, excellent choice of food but above all a great atmosphere with wonderfully accommodating staff. In particular I have to mention Zakina, Anna and Agnes. They keep us coming back. Thank you 🙏🏼

Particularly friendly and efficient staff made for a good welcome and timely service of our lunch dishes. The ambience is pleasant, though how it would be if it had been busier is not clear. There were ample menu choices, though one of us would have preferred to see a salmon option

A reassuring restaurant, It is consistent in greater than average food. Excellent service at the Hampstead branch ensures that locals come back time and time again.

We were a party of 13 for a birthday celebration on New Year's Day. The staff coped well with us all ordering different combinations from the A la Carte and everyone commented on the really delicious food. The fish dishes were all very good and warm tuna nicoise great and very generous. In comparison to some other restaurants the prices still seem good value. We had a super and relaxed evening and highly recommend Cote Hampstead for dinner.

The beef bourguignon was delicious and the service here was good. Nice location and very convenient.

Our first time at Cote in Hampstead. We booked lunch with the offer of a bottle of free wine - we opted for the white which was excellent. We both ordered from the Xmas menu - plenty of choices. We both had the turkey which was good but in need of some sort of sauce to keep moist. Excellent desserts. The service was very good - friendly and efficient.

My girlfriend and I visited for a lovely meal yesterday. The food was great and the staff made us feel very welcomed. We recently moved into the area and are trying to find some nice spots, this is certainly one of them and we will definitely be visiting again! Would recommend to all.

Have been coming here for years. Was always dependable with hard working, friendly staff. Recently the cooking & management have taken a turn for the worse. New Manager maybe trying too hard, staff all looked out of sorts and not happy Our usual server was clearly upset but putting on a brave face. I enjoyed the food, the waiter was good, attentive but not over the top. Why then have I marked it as average? It always comes down to the staff doesn’t it. The manager weirdly decided to ridicule me as I asked for ketchup to go with my fish and chips ( ok it did have a sauce for the fish) But, does the manager really have to ridicule me to the waitress for no apparent reason for this french faux pas? !! Does the manager know that I am undergoing chemotherapy treatment and my taste buds are shot to pieces so a bit of ketchup on my chips - why not??? Does the manager know how disturbed / embarrassed I was by this ridicule- to be fair I don’t think the Waitress was bothered. But just to make him look big to her with his superior palate (- to a chemo patient?) why why why? Think before you do this- we are a stones throw from the royal free. And actually I asked the waiter if it was ok to hang about a bit as my clinic isn’t for another hour- I am drinking a coffee. But now I feel I’d prefer to walk the streets in the rain rather than sit and be ridiculed

Had lunch today at Cote Hampstead. The menu had shrunk and no set meal. I ordered hamburger. It was dry, over-processed and pretty disgusting. Any similarity between the common hamburger and what I was served today was purely accidental.

I am a regular visitor to different Cote restaurants and I have found all of them to be excellent. Hampstead is my most regular branch and I am always happy if Breton Fish Stew is on the menu.

We have been used to good food here but I’m afraid it’s deteriorated the mussels were small and at times non existent and the Cassoulet was dreadful my companions meals were also unpleasant. A good place nice ambience but something has happened cost cutting?

We came here between Christmas and new years and as you'd expect, it was very busy.The food was absolutely excellent, however the service could have been better. The waiter that was looking after was, was essentially looking after the entire upstairs area on his own - very overwhelmed (though he kept it together!). So the restaurant could definitely have done with more staff, especially during such a busy period.But as I mentioned the food was very good and we would definitely come back

We had booked a table for opening time and enjoyed the window table.The overall experience would have been rated as Excellent but for the disgusting state of the disabled toilet on the ground floor. Apart from the poor impression given there are matters of health and hygiene that need to be addressed.

I have only been there on Sundays. The service is slow, probably because the place is understaffed and those serving are tired. Avoid the Sunday special with salad apparently thrown in - the salad is a lettuce leaf or a joke (whichever you prefer). A very badly run place.

The Cote chain is familiar but each venue has a different vibe. Downstairs at the Hampstead venue on a Friday night the atmosphere was lively with families, groups and couples enjoying the atmosphere. Certainly worth booking rather than taking pot luck. The menu is familiar (and good) but my special of scallops and black pudding was a pleasant change and well done. Pre theatre dinner with Mrs B. We were in Hampstead High St wondering where to eat. There is no shortage of local eateries. We came upon Cote and having had a good time in Cote Bury St Edmunds we thought to give it a try. It failed to disappoint. We split a Fougasse for starters which was very pleasant and garlicky. Mrs B had Belly Pork which was judged as very good indeed and I had Cassoullet which was excellent. I have had a cassoullet or two in my time. Now, I know that Cote is just another chain restaurant but it is well fitted out, well staffed with pleasant waiting staff and an interesting menu. One advantage of these chains is you can be reasonably sure of a consistent standard. By way of generalisation, Burger King is consistently rubbish and Cote is consistently pretty good. I'll have to try Cafe Rouge again one day and see what they are like. The one in Gunwharf at Portsmouth was extremely average the last time I was there. However, to continue, for pud we split the cheeseboard which I considered to be pretty generous in portion size considering it was supposed to just for one. The weather was crisp and dry so I am lying about the storm. But we had a glass of Port each with our cheese which all went down rather well. Again, decent portion of Port. £70.00 for two with drinks. Not cheap but I felt it was good value for the money.

Went to this restaurant on a friday morning for breakfast having been to others in the chain knowing what to expect however this one was awful. I can’t comment on the food or drink because I didn’t get a chance to try them as although we were seated promptly we then weren’t seen again for 15 minutes even trying to get the servers attention. I don’t blame them as it was a nearly full restaurant and there were only 2 of them. But really not what I expected and I left incredibly disappointed. Don’t go here if there is a chance it will be busy as the service will slack.

Had great food and service in the evening so I took friends for lunch the next day. Breton chicken is fantastic. Best onion soup outside France. Steaks and frites were excellent. Wines good value. Very good service.

Over the years I have often lunched and dined here and although there have been small variations in the quality of the food, I have never had a disappointing meal.

4 of us went for a breakfast/ brunch following a funeral. Having been to many different branches of Cote this was not a good experience. I asked for my bacon to be crispy in the pancake. It was flabby and the fried eggs were completely overcooked and the yolk powdery. 2 of our party had scrambled eggs with their breakfasts - the eggs were extremely runny and appeared almost under cooked. We were hear to lament about a relatives life so the last thing we wanted to do was complain or send meals back. Service was fine. We won't be returning.

Cozy ,friendly and welcoming for children. Great Calamari ,Prawns and a decent house wine . A good range of mains and desserts as well . Served with a smile !

It is the only cafe in Hampstead with decent seating so i go there often. The service varies greatly. On some days it is fantastic, on others less so. Food for lunch can be very nice. Breakfast choices are bit limited. That said on many occasions I had very nice breakfast, but once I had hair what look like chest hair in my food. They took off the price of that food off. The fruit salads are often off, they need new supplier for them or to make them from fresh. The calamari dish tends to be wonderful. The cheese board is getting smaller.

Have never had a bad meal or experience here. The staff cope admirably with the seemingly endless flow of customers arriving for lunch or dinner. The house red wine is good value and there is value, too, in the menu with many options to choose from.

Lovely restaurant pleasant staff. We were there for a lite meal on a very hot day, the AC was fantastic so we remained cool and collected! The food was lovely would certainly return.

Arrived for breakfast at opening time. Did not have a reservation but was treated kindly and allocated a nice table (in that alcove at the front). But, sadly, the food was not up to standard, and one ordered dish was long delayed. Overall, somewhat disappointing

Was there for lunch and had the haddock goujons as a main course. There appeared to be more fish than when the product was cod goujons. However, the fish was overcooked and not too tasty. Not being one to complain, I kept quiet. Coincidentally, my wife said the same on the way home.

A delightful meal with very attentive and efficient staff in pleasant surroundings. A varied menu which was well cooked and presented. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Ordered a few dishes and generally good. Service is ok could be more attentive. The fillet is cooked medium - nice. Beef stew was delicious. Had the grilled chicken - nice too. Had complimentary Easter treats.

If you find yourself around Hampstead with lunch calling, then I recommend you visit Cote Brasserie. It serves excellent meals, lovely coffee (albeit ours was not hot) and friendly service. We had a party of 6 (including 2 children) and the bill was 84 pounds.

I was there with my family for Easter lunch and everything was perfect: great food, great service and reasonable price considering the location and the time of the year. We had for starters calamari and salmon that were fresh and delicious. As main we had mules and frites and a fish stew both were delicious. E had a cocktail with our starters . Overall satisfied with the experience.

Came as part of a large group and Cote had arranged a side room upstairs for us which was a bit tight as a couple ended up eating their meal on the their knees, it did however add to the atmosphere. The restaurant worked very professionally and all the meals were delivered at the same time. There was a wide range of meals ordered, steak, sea bass chicken etc and I heard no complaints. The desserts also went down very well especially the frozen berries - I'll be happy to go back here when I'm next in London.

Mother's day lunch. Mother's day menu. Wanted non alcoholic alternative to the kir royale included in the price. "You can have champagne " - we haď a lemonade and a diet coke. A decent mocktail would have been nice. Fòod ok except the vegetarian option which was baked crepes immersed in so much cheese sauce that they were soggy lumps.

I was working in the area and nipped in there with my husband for a late Sunday lunch. Head waitress (I believe) very nice and efficient got us a little table in the entrance area near bar which suited us very well as it was roomy and window view. Waiter was asked to provide me with water and bring extra water as I have a health condition (I did not tell him that), he excelled himself and the restaurant by actually doing this. I have been to loads of restaurants and asked the same thing and they have always failed to do this. So well done Cote. Food was excellent - I had lamb which cooked to perfection. Wine was very good as well. Enjoyed it all so much and felt so relaxed I stupidly ordered us both a dessert (which I do not usually bother with) and more wine. Wine appeared, but dessert failed to appear and I had to speak to the nice head waitress and she must have reminded kitchen staff. The dessert was very good - just a lemon tart and ice cream for my husband (so should not have taken long). The waitress took the dessert and service charge away from the bill which I thought reasonable, but I would have preferred to have paid the full amount and just had the meal with the dessert issue. Terrible shame as a breakdown of communication must have resulted in no pudding for us (well a delayed pudding), otherwise I would have had no qualms about giving the review 5 stars as service and food excellent. The staff were working extremely hard and very busy and just such a pity one of them let the side down - but mistakes happen and staff dealt with the problem speedily, fairly, politely and professionally. .

We had a corner table in the front entrance area which was nice because it was a bit private from the rest of the place. Downside was it meant the service was slow as they seemed to forget we were there half the time! One of the waitresses was really lovely when we got her attention though and we had a long catch up with no pressure to vacate our table. The food was decent - hot and flavoursome. We drank lots of sparkling wine which was very good too!!

Having had a nice meal at Côte Brasserie Covent Garden in the past, I decided to give the Hampstead location a try for a late lunch one rainy afternoon shortly after arrival on a mid-day flight. Roasted pork belly, pommes frites, a small salad and a couple glasses of wine were all nicely done and just what I needed to begin jet lag recovery. While there is certainly a slight hint of a "corporate" vibe given that this is part of a chain, food is consistently pretty good. Service friendly too.

Went in a Saturday night around 8pm, hadn't booked. Table for 4. Place was busy but not packed. Service/food was terrific. Great ambiance. All courses first class - not bad mouthful over 2 courses(main/dessert) for 4 of us. Meal + 4 drinks came to £120 ( which included the service charge) Toilets spotless. Staff very charming and attentive without being intrusive. Would definitely go back here. Highly recommended.

You know what to expect in a Cote, happy service, well-cooked dishes and very reasonable wine, glass and bottle. The early pre-19:00 dinner @£13.50 for three courses was exceptional value, unhurried and served with a smile.

I have always thought this site misses one rating level, that of ‘good’ between average and very good. This chain, and this particular branch is typical, serves up good, genuine simple French fare. Why they don’t serve the simplest of French starters, Crudités, I don’t understand. The same question with Charcuterie, though quality of product at a reasonable price might be an issue in this country. For the mains, a great French staple is the cote de porc, the simple pork chop, and if you’re going to serve chips, or French fries, they must be made fresh on site. Why isn’t more made of the French baguette, correctly produced by far the best bread in the world? And serving creme caramel rather than Creme brûlée isn’t a trip down memory lane, it’s just being out of touch. No doubt there are sound economic reasons behind many of these choices, like wastage of fresh product, lack of demand or simple cost. But, though they are getting much right, they seem to me to be missing some very open targets. But I remain an occasional fan.

From the outside, the restaurant looks small. Quite natural since it is impossible to see the second story. The food was good, well presented, cooked as ordered. Nice staff. Sadly, not easy to leave a tip unless you have cash.....

A cold and snowy night and old favs like beef bourgignon and French onion soup go down really well. But they need to be fresh and flavoursome....which they were on this visit. Friendly service too.
