Cote Brasserie - Exeter in Exeter

We enjoyed a lovely evening meal here to celebrate husband's birthday. Had requested a cosy corner or window table and were delighted when we were shown to a perfect place with fabulous view of the cathedral. Food and wine at every Cote restaurant we have ever been to consistently very good and Exeter certainly did not disappoint. Thanks to the staff who gave us a great time.

It’s ok. Great view of the cathedral and efficient, if somewhat frazzled, service. If you are a good cook you will make better at home. Formulaic assembly rather than wholehearted cooking. Warms salad barely above room temperature. Go to experience pleasant enough steak and chips with a view. Stay home if you want to spend the same money or less on better ingredients.

Lovely meal and service We booked a meal before attending a concert in Exeter. We had a beautiful view of the cathedral, a tasty meal and great service from waiter George.

Took my partner for a Birthday meal and it was faultless. George made us feel very welcome from the minute we arrived and gave us a celebratory drink. Food and service was amazing. Thank you, we will be back.

8 of us visited Cote which was booked in advance for my sons 21st birthday. The food was amazing and fairly priced, but the service was exceptional and I want to thank Matt for being so attentive even though on a Wednesday night it was extremely busy. It is the first time I have been there, and it certainly won’t be the last. The atmosphere and scenery was lovely, as well as the staff and food.

Food appeared at different t times and was bland. Disappointing meals x 3. Badly trained waiting staff who leaned over us rather than walking around to put the food down .

We have always loved cote wherever in the country it’s a place we gravitate too, however we have noticed a decline in quality in 2024 that makes us reevaluate if it’s still our go2. The cheese soufflé was deciding lacking in cheese. The sauce used to have mustard in it that cut through the cheese but alas today hardly any cheese and the sauce had zero mustard in it. Just a white bland thick liquid. An example of using less ingredients for the detriment of the customer. My beef bourguinon has always been tender and falls apart, yet today it has sloppy fat attached to it that formed almost half of the meat in the bowl. For £20 it was poor, poor, compared with previous, clearly using a substandard product. I of course realise that the industry has been hit by crippling issues, however when the prices have gone up and the quality has declined then the customer is hit with a double whammy. I would rather pay an extra amount to retain the previous excellent food quality and I feel that prices should have reflected this already. From a strong 9 before to an average 5 now and if a brand is struggling why then make it even less appealing to use them. Think hard cote as you could driving folk away

Four of us dined here this evening and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We arrived earlier than planned but that wasn't a problem. The menu had a large variety of dishes and drinks yo choosr from. One of our group is lactose intolerant but the waiter and waitress were very helpful with her choices. All of the food chosen was delicious and we all would return again. Thank you!

On my own, woman in my sixties. I was seated right at the top of the restaurant away from all other diners. My order was completly wrong, they realised this before serving it, and so had to be re-done. The waiter was very apologetic which I accepted as I was in no hurry. What really bothered me was that another server made a point of coming over to me, bending down, so she was face to face with me, and asked twice if I was "alright" with a look of great concern on her face. I asked her why she was asking me and after a beat she said that it was because my order took so long. She made me feel quite uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place for a solo diner.

Poached eggs and avocado on toast for breakfast. Cooked ok but pretty cold. Flat white really badly made; very over steamed milk. Mentioned to staff, they apologised but did not offer any solution. Whole experience not worth the overpriced bill. Shan’t bother again. Shame.

Excellent food and fantastic service. The wait staff were always on hand whenever you even thought about needing something, and the food was delicious. My partner started with the charcuterie board, which was simple but very good. We then had the steak frite, and the french onion soup for main. The french onion soup is the best I've ever had. I would go back every week just for that soup!

We had a meal at Côte Exeter on Good Friday. The food was good and the atmosphere was convivial. We go to our local Côte in South East London fairly regularly so we know what we’re getting. The setting of the spectacular Exeter Cathedral made our visit to Côte Exeter all the more special. Everything was great but I had one complaint. Our waiter was wearing a face mask. The restaurant was very busy and we found it hard to hear what he was saying. It rather put me off. It’s such a shame because it slightly spoiled what was otherwise a lovely evening.

Bit of a struggle to find anything decent in Exeter, so decided for the chain option of Côte. Really good, great food, excellent champagne options and an enjoyable night out. Think they have got this right throughout and well worth a visit

Very different experience from the reviews provided here. We have been to many Cotes elsewhere and this restaurant previously, and had good service and decent food. We have previously given good reviews. However, recent experiences have been very different. The atmosphere is not pleasant recently, the food we had served the other day was scolding hot, yet some of it was undercooked or almost raw - I think it had been cooked too quickly then placed on the heated Pass for too long. This led to our mouthes being scolded. One high point was our young waiter, who was really lovely and did his best given challenging circumstances.

We had a lovely table overlooking Cathedral Green. The service was excellent and the food beautifully cooked. We chose from the prix fixed menu and the portion sizes were just perfect. The Kir Royale was good too!

Great food, great ambience, good service. The French onion soup was thick and sumptuous and the Breton fish stew was stunningly good. Highly recommend.

I'm not sure why my husband and I hadn't visited Cote before,but after the fabulous lunch we enjoyed this week we be will definitely be returning. The service was first class and the meal was nicely paced,not rushed nor did we feel that we had waited to long.The view overlooking Cathedral Green is a lovely backdrop to this very comfortable restaurant that has a nice vibe. But the best compliment has to go to the food, everything we had was absolutely delicious. The menu is varied and the wine choice is very good. My recommendation for a dish off the menu would be the Confit Duck,so beautifully tender with crisp well seasoned skin.......delicious!!

We had the best time! We were welcomed with a complimentary glass of fizz to celebrate my partner’s birthday and loved our food. We shared pate to start then enjoyed fish stew and tartiflette. It was all delicious. No room for pudding, as the portions were generous. For the quality of food and service the prices are very fair. Oh and having a window seat looking at Exeter Cathedral was fabulous.

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Our table upstairs was very nice. The seafood stew was delicious with no shortage of lovely things in it. My partner had the Quiche Lorraine but wasn't so keen on the fries and said she's had better quiche so a little mediocre. The staff were lovely and we couldn't ask for more.

Lovely restaurant opposite the cathedral. We visited between Xmas and New Year and although the place was pretty busy the service was excellent. Full marks to the waiter who managed to get me a Cote chocolate mousse which was not available on the main menu. He definitely went above and beyond in terms of service. The food was delicious. Total bill for three courses with wine and service was £95 which was pretty decent. Would definitely go back

My girlfriend and I thought we'd try something different so we chose Côte. On the cathedral green so a lovely place to dine. We were welcomed and seated by a wonderful lady who was enthusiastic, friendly and highly knowledgeable about the food and the menu which is always a good sign. We both ordered the steak frites, both cooked to perfection. The food also came very quickly which was ideal for us as we had a busy day ahead. A delightful experience!

Really lovely food and good service. Steak was cooked perfectly. Portion sizes were just right. Good views of the cathedral, nice atmosphere. Cant believe we've never tried Cote before. We will definitely be back.

Amazing. We visited Exeter for a birthday celebration weekend and came to Cote for Sunday lunch. We could not fault it. The staff were really friendly and helpful, the food was delicious and great value for money. We will definitely be back.

Food was very good, I’m a vegetarian which they catered extremely well for - they have a Vegan & Vegetarian menu. The service was good, very friendly server that we had! Only reason why it’s not 5 star is that as all the furnishings are hard, sound echoes off very easily, so it was very loud in there!! But very good meal, service & location.

Having had a few disappointing evenings out we ventured to the cote in Exeter.Group of four of us, all the food was superb, but what stood out for us was the service so much so we even spoke to the floor manager to ensure she knew how outstanding her member of staff was, young lad who is from Exmouth could be called Joe (could be wrong)He went above and beyond looking after ALL his tables with such professionalism.An absolute asset to this establishment.Thank you

Arranged to meet friends for lunch over Christmas period and we had preordered our Christmas meal in advance. We had a good service especially as it was a busy day. But some parts of the meals were disappointing. The starter for some was supposed to be tiger prawns and they only had 3 small ones on each plate, with a load of lettuce, the smoked sausage pig in blanket was not expected and left an after taste that took away the rest of the flavour of the meal. Small portion of side vegetables and we were all disappointed in the amount of gravy sent with the meal “thimble size” was mentioned. The tarte du lemon was nice but had a very wet meringue topping which was odd! Also check you wine sizes as two friends ordered large and only got medium sizes but were charged for large. Also check the service charge on the bill too, no mention of being able to decline it before paying

Second time eating here in a week . First for lunch then for evening meal . Love this place especially for the friendly but professional approach given on both occasions . Well organised with excellent staff .Sam who served us in the evening was exceptional and greeted us with a lovely smile on arrival at the table . The meals were all served at the same time which rarely happens in other restaurants . The food was well presented and hot ,even the French fries . All was delicious. Already looking forward to our next visit .

Mt husband and I visited here twice in the last 2 weeks, once in the evening on the spur of the moment, then for lunch where we requested, and were given, a window seat so we could look out over the Xmas market. The food was great, good choices and reasonable value, well presented and tasty and not rushed. The thing that makes the visit most pleasant though is the staff. All of them, even those you pass on the stairs on your way out, are so friendly and cheerful it makes it a real pleasure to visit. They make you feel they are happy to have you there which seems to be rare nowadays.Well done to all the staff at Cote Brasserie. We will be back soon!.

We had booked and requested a first floor window table, which we were given. A lovely view of the cathedral and the Christmas market. My only negative comment about the table is that some serious draft proofing is needed around the windows. Had to put a scarf around my knees. Menu selection was lovely and we found it difficult to choose. The dishes were excellent.

Because of the noise level, which makes it very difficult for us oldies to hear what the other one is saying and so slightly spoiled the meal, I can only rate it very good. Other than that everything was excellent - friendly staff, reasonable speed of service at a very busy lunchtime, and lovely food. I particularly liked being asked if either of us had any allergies or intolerances as we were seated so that the waitress who came to take our order could advise if what was ordered was suitable. We'd love to come back, but perhaps after Christmas and for a late lunch would be better as it might be a little quieter and we wouldn't have to shout at each other!

We have eaten at Cote many times. As usual the staff were very friendly, welcoming and efficient. The menu was great, the food and wine excellent. Very good value and we look forward to returning soon. However to my dismay there was no cheese available, apparently due to supply issues. Come on Cote, you can do better than this. Of course you wish to serve French made cheese if available but if not an excellent range of local cheeses very much available.

The food choice was excellent and the dishes we chose were very yummy. We went to have brunch, which, of course, turned into lunch. Staff were very attentive. The bill was not so bad either. Just wish there was one in the far west of England.

The food is always brilliant and this is our 'go to place' whenever we visit Exeter. The staff are, however, what makes this place special as they are amazing. I would like to especially compliment India as she was brilliant when the four of us visited last week.

Having visited the Cote Brasserie in Oxford several times we have come to expect a high level of service and food quality there. Looking forward to comparable experience in their Exeter branch we were not disappointed, despite their being very busy.

Excellent food and service. Had to remind the staff about our side orders so they came out a bit late - but we were not charged for them (we didn’t ask for them to be taken off the bill). Would recommend.

For someone who has no immunity to Covid-19 and for making my niece's engagement lunch so special! Also to the lovely waitress who attended our table yesterday. Came for breakfast, the eggs were only just warm enough and the avocado was hard. Great location and nice staff shame the kitchen let them down.

We got a table overlooking the cathedral, on the upper floor. It was very busy but well managed and well staffed so no delays. Food was good, we enjoyed the monkfish. Everything on the menu was available, only thing was it’s a bit noisy when busy. We’d happily go again though.

Yesterday we had our first family get together for two years. We chose Cotè as it was a lovely situation and was a favourite of one of our family. There were 12 of us ! We had a long table upstairs. Our waitress was absolutely amazing . She was cheerful obliging (took numerous photos). The food was fabulous. No complaints whatsoever. Muscadet Sur le Maine wine one of the best we've had! All the courses arrived together which in itself is a big achievement. The set lunchtime menu is lovely. We will be back.

Nice little restaurant opposite the cathedral. Limited menu but done well. Friendly and attentive staff. Different lunchtime and evening menu. Fillet steak was perfect. Sea bass (without the mussels) equally good. Popular, so need to book ahead.

Absolutely fantastic birthday treat with my boyfriend..I had the pork belly and he had the muscles ... Service was on point thank you so much to the team at lunchtime...the chefs have done a fantastic job and our wine was beautiful 10 out of 10

My girlfriend and I visited as celebration of an anniversary and as a last special night out before heading off to university. We requested a window overlooking the cathedral green which we were readily provided. The food was excellent; I had the fillet steak which was amazingly tender and delicious, my girlfriend the poulet breton - also delish. The desserts were to die for. Will definitely be back!

My wife and I visited two nights running and found the staff, atmosphere and food absolutely excellent. The menu was varied, imaginative and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

We were really impressed with this place and had stopped for something to eat after our daughter had promoted it. I loved the food and the staff were very attentive. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

We called in today for a drink, unsure if this would be an option in the current climate. We got a fantastic welcome, we were quickly served drinks and offered nibbles. Perfect and welcoming friendly service, will eat her another time as a result.

We booked for 6pm on a Wednesday evening as most of the evening was already fully booked. It was our first experience of this restaurant and it was a good one. The staff were lovely and friendly and also very efficient. We had a table just in front of the entrance and saw how they handled several situations so professionally and seamlessly even though they were very busy. You know a place is good when there are people asking them to take their phone number and call them if anyone cancels because they so wanted to eat there. Another man even asked for the manager to ask him to find him a table despite them being fully booked. That’s proof that people really want to eat here.We had chicken and also the vegan ratatouille which were delicious. The vegan chocolate tart and vegan ice cream were delicious. Well done to the team last night.

My fiancé booked this restaurant as a surprise. She had been a few times before and really enjoyed it. We had 3 courses and coffee. I had a garlic bread to start, rib eye steak for mains and tart au Chocolat for dessert. Every course was fantastic. The staff were really friendly and were excellent. Could not fault anything with the food or service. The only critique we weren’t keen on was a 12.5% tip was automatically added to our bill. We paid this as we didn’t want a confrontation but we prefer to give a tip for good service and not forced upon us. Would not hesitate to go back.

Seated in a very busy part of the restaurant with air con on super cool and doors open to queuing crowds. We were moved on request to the first floor to a table crammed next to the till where the coffee machine or another noisy machine was in action. Getting a little frustrated, we complained and were moved again to the top floor where tables were private and well spaced with spectacular views. Experience clearly depends on where you are able to be seated.

Booked a table for my partner's birthday. She is vegetarian so happy that there is vegetarian options. The staff were attentive and helpful. The food However was disappointing. The starter was a sharing platter that was ok. She ordered a vegan quiche tart which was so dry you needed the bottle of water supplied to eat it. The croquet potatoes were dripping in oil. I ordered the Bretton chicken, basically chicken and chips. I had 2 pieces of chicken. One piece was fine, the other had meat like jelly. Only good for the dog. We complained about the croquet potatoes so had that removed from the bill. We paid for the other items as we were hungry. The chicken I took home for the dog. The vegetarian options were extremely limited, and after what was served not ideal. I could not recommend this restaurant

The jewel in the crown of this restaurant is the staff. Very accommodating and nothing too much trouble, even changing our table when the birthday party adjacent became too loudThe star was a waiter, whose name was Modi I think, or Mudi. We rarely have found someone so personable and friendly, even at the end of the evening when you'd imagine he'd be tired. The food was reasonable and the venue spacious but a little noisy

I have visited the Cote on very many occasions but my wife and I always class it as one of our favourite restaurants as it was the one we chose to celebrate our engagement almost 3 years ago! However, when we visited tonight several items were not on the menu and they have dropped their dauphinoise potatoes and the pomme boulangerie is not a patch on what it replaces. Thankfully my wife enjoyed her meal but for the first time since visiting, I didn’t really enjoy mine. To be honest I’m not sure I’ll be rushing back!!

Beautiful starter fougasse (recommended by Ian who was fantastic, he should work in sales) followed by a great fillet steak for us both with peppercorn sauce. Wonderful!! H&S

Despite having a reservation, we had to queue for 15 minutes to get seated. Then we had to wait another 20 minutes before our order was taken. At least we had time to gaze out of the window at the cathedral. There seemed to be plenty of staff but not a lot happening.The starters were OK but the fillet steak was a strange wedge shape. It meant that the first 1 cm of the thick end was medium as requested but the remainder of the steak then became horribly overdone. Wines were OK.Not too impressed with some of their Covid procedures. Some waiters ideas of Covid cleaning was a cursory wipe of the tables [nowhere near cleaning all of it] plus a slight wipe of the salt & pepper grinders [but only the top and not where they are gripped]. It did not inspire confidence. And too many diners were allowed to walk around without wearing masks and not being challenged.Overall the dining experience was less than average and nowhere near worth the price so I would not recommend this place.

Visited Cote on Sunday morning for breakfast. The Staff were very friendly and attentive. The restaurant was clean and welcoming.The breakfast menu used to be excellent although more recently it’s had some changes to it and the breakfast was very average, I personally preferred it how they did it before lockdown started. I would visit again, maybe in the evening instead.

Dines early so not very busy. Had a great window seat on the first floor. My starter of Lobster Mousseline was very different and tasty. The Monk fish Piperade was wonderful accompanied with a cool Comte de Provence rose.

I booked this restaurant because it had an interesting vegan menu and it was the last night of our holiday in Devon. We ordered the Aubergine Ratatouille and the vegan quiche Lorraine. The latter had no taste and dubious texture but we ate it. The aubergine dish was inedible as the aubergine had not been cooked properly. The waiter told us that he was vegetarian and ate it all the time and that was how it was meant to be! The manager apologised and did not charge us for the dish and said he would pass on our comments to the chef. We were very disappointed and will not visit again.

First time in a restaurant for what feels like forever and it didn't disappoint. The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and attentive....what more can you ask for ? thank you

Lovely setting for dinner or lunch. The service was too fast and the duck, advertised as being served pink, was very over cooked. Starters and desserts were very good and the wines were reasonably priced.

Absolutely fantastic meal. The food was incredible, the staff were excellent. It is a very well oiled machine & I cannot find fault!Our server, Paulina, was so attentive without making us feel rushed. I had the onion soup and sea bass which was absolutely delicious - the chef is fantastic!The only thing I’m sad about is that this was our last night in Exeter - I wish we had found this place earlier in our holiday!

3 course lunch for £18.95 and everything was perfectly cooked. Asparagus with poached egg, grilled sea bream, side of confit potatoes and tarte au citron👌 Excellent food and service, thank you for restoring my faith in restaurant dining.
