I go to this restaurant every now and again in the hope that it might get better, but with this time - as with every visit I was completely underwhelmed. Mediocre food, average service and always something 'we've ran out of' this time it was vinegar.... what sort of restaurant runs out of vinegar?? I think I'll give up going there from now on!

Check it’s open and book, do not just turn up. We arrived on Thursday 17th October for lunch only to find there was no one there. Although the restaurant door was open and we walked inside, there were no staff, no Open or Closed signs, the chairs were piled up on the tables and it was very obvious it was not open for business. Nothing on their website to suggest this. Very disappointing considering the number of times we have visited and have enjoyed excellent food there. We travelled one hour to Dorchester hoping for a lovely lunch. What’s gone wrong? . ☹️

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We had family birthday celebration for my sister booked at Cote Dorchester Saturday morning 10 am.(07/9/2024) We sat down and were chatting about what we would like for brunch, a meal I had been looking forward to all week. The waitress came over and said "I was going to say good evening as I worked last night" but good morning. She interrupted the conversation between my sister about which gifts she had received and I which I thought was quite rude, I said nothing. We ordered 4 champagne breakfasts as it was a celebration, the drinks would come first and then the food ordered afterwards. I was sat at the other end of the table of 7 with my sister, youngest daughter, with my partner, mum, dad and eldest daughter at the other end. I heard raised voices and the waitress was asking for ID , my partner asked who for ? Her stated the waitress quite rudely and pointed at my 16 year old daughter, my daughter said I have college ID card, the waitress ignored her. (My daughter has autism and anxiety, we did well to get her to this meal as it was) I then chose to intervene, "what's the problem ?". "She can't have alcohol without ID" (or something similar), my partner and I both stated that a child over 16 can have a alcoholic drink if accompanied by an adult which she was.(partner and I have both previously worked in pub trade) I then said " I think you need to go and get the manager and preferably someone else to serve us please", she then answered quite abruptly " well I can if you want". The female supervisor then came over, didn't apologise for the unbelievable outburst and said I don't really know how to use this thing, relating to the tablet for orders, my father was told he couldn't have cassoulet with the champagne breakfast, he then read out that the menu says you can have ANY breakfast option. The order was then completed around 10.30 am and we spent 40+ minutes waiting for food. Other customers came in and were served before we got anything to eat. I feel that we were penalised and made to wait as long as possible for food. When the order came it was wrong, some items doubled up and 2 other meals missed including my sisters BIRTHDAY TREAT. My daughters French toast was cold and duplicated (costing Cote money for waste) , my mothers order was wrong, my sisters scrambled eggs and salmon didn't arrive ! Although I had been looking forward to this brunch and wanted the cassoulet ordered a single croissant as I didn't want to give Cote anything but the minimum amount of money after what I think is disgusting and uncalled for behaviour. In summary, Cote Dorchester have a waitress who doesn't know the law relating to the business she works in and then causes a scene ruining my sisters birthday brunch. A "supervisor" who can't use the ordering system in the restaurant she works in and doesn't know what customers can have what off their own menu. And despite a thoroughly unpleasant outburst from her staff didn't even apologise. I think a shake up is in order - I won't be returning

My friend and I visited as we normally have a lovely meal/great service. Cote has always been our go to restaurant. Unfortunately, on this occasion the service was awful. We had to ask for a plate/the dip for the starter/to name just a few. When the bill arrived it was incorrect (charged twice). The Manager took off the price of the drinks as the bill was incorrect three times.

Having previously dined at cote on a Friday night with a friend where the experience was mediocre from the staff to the quality of the food, I had vowed to not return, however I had heard and read glowing reviews for the breakfast service so though me and my family would give it a second chance to change my opinions. We had a table booked for 10:30 on a quiet Saturday morning with not many other tables in the restaurant. We were seated and given some water whilst we waited for a drinks order to be taken. we ordered drinks about 10 minutes later and then waited a further 15 to receive them. We placed our food order nearly 10 minutes after that. We waited almost 45 minutes for some mediocre eggs, pastries and a brioche sandwich which can only be described as small and lacking flavour, not near the 10 pound price tag. The service felt lacking in attentiveness and the ambiance in the restaurant was next to none. I will not be returning to cote and urge others to do the same.

This was our first visit to Cote Dorchester, 8 Aug, and it will not be our last. My husband and I and two friends were looked after impeccably by our server, Svitlana, who was courteous and helpful in explaining the menu. We sat outside on a very nice terrace but a visit to the facilities inside proved the restaurant was very impressive as well. Our friends with us have just retired from their own hospitality business after 30 years and said they wished they had been lucky enough to have staff as professional as those at Cote Dorchester. The food was also outstanding so please pass on our thanks to Svitlana, the chef and the rest of the team for a memorable lunch.

Went for a Saturday evening meal. Even though the place was really busy, the service was excellent, timely and always polite, never any feeling that they were rushing. We went 2 courses a la carte, and it was very good, maybe a few more vegetable choices in the side dishes selections, but all in all a very enjoyable evening. Cote is on Brewery Square which looks an interesting location, where it could be worth spending some time to look aroiund.

Wonderful lunch. Excellent food and service. I wrote a review for the Cote Brasserie in Peterborough and was particularly impressed with the service. I thought it was just because the kitchen was on an upper floor that they had a "runner" to ring the food from the kitchen to the dining area but not it is the same in Dorchester. The food is brought to the dining room as soon as it is ready and given to a waiter to serve it. I remember when I worked it a kitchen and the frustration of food spoiling because waiters didn't collect it. Why don't move restaurants do this? Highly recommended. Thank you.

We had Breton chicken which was moist, tender and delicious and also steak frites where the frites were to die for and the steak was well seasoned and flavoursome. Came to this lovely looking resturant for a family meal on a Friday nightResturant was nice and busy which is always a reassuring sign when entering a resturant for the very first timeFirst impressions were the staff were very smart and polite, the resturant was spotless and very nicely laid out.Ordered some bread and olives for the table, the bread took 20 minutes to arrive because of " a delay" one can only imagine what delays bread?!? I ordered the duck platter to start and it was messy in appearance and had been dosed in so much olive oil I could see my reflection in it!! However it tasted just fine! For a main course I had the swordfish which was a special of the month. Again poor presentation and the taste was so bland it had 100% been frozen and was in no way fresh, my father had the same and agreed it wasn't right at all. After 4 fairly disappointing meals (starter and main course ) we were presented with a bill for £146 when the waiter came to take payment we said as he had been so polite he could add £10 onto the bill for himself to which he replied.we need not bother as a tip had already been added to the bill!!This was my first trip to cote brasserie and will certainly be my last2/5

Second visit to Cote and we had a mixed experience. Staff efficient and very pleasant. Restaurant buzzing at 6.30pm on a Saturday and I had a lovely meal, as did my Auntie. My partner’s sirloin steak was tough, gristly and he couldn’t cut it, even with a steak knife. We were weighing up whether to flag to our server who came to check in with us anyway. We highlighted the problem and he was offered an alternative at no cost. Problem was we were halfway through our main and he didn’t really want to eat alone. Our server was really helpful and insistent that he choose something but he didn’t want to & declined.3-5 mins later a lovely platter of charcuterie arrived with an apology from the chef and on the house. My partner picked at the Parma ham but cold meats etc really aren’t his thing. We decided to call it a day and asked for the bill. The dish & a % was knocked off without any asking nor fuss.My meal was lovely (fougasse and then duck, as was my Auntie’s & my partner’s starter) and the service top drawer for sure but the one dish really very poor.We will come back...

We fetched a member of staff and asked where our mains were and she went to find out. Eventually somebody cleared and our food arrived, 40 minutes after we placed our order. No apology or explanation was given, and nobody came to take our order for dessert, I had to stand by the bar waiting for the bill. From experience, the quality of food in Dorchester (and the South West) I would say is extremely poor, especially from the cafes if you want a breakfast. I visited Cote Brasserie this morning (24/10) and what a surprise. I'm not the best dressed person as was out exploring neolithic sites but from the point I came in I was greeted by friendly staff, offered the menu and a complimentary bottle of water. I ordered the full English and what a treat. Absolutely gorgeous to the point I'd say certainly the nicest breakfast in Dorchester if not Dorset! Not cheap at £11.50 (With a rude gratuity included so watch out) but you get what you pay for. In town you will pay £9 for the cheapest nastiest ingredients but here they clearly put pride into the quality of stock, preparation, herbs and spices and the surroundings.

We were stopping at the Premier Inn about 500 yards away so, after a long day hiking along the coast, it was very convenient for dinner. It's located in the new Brewery Square which has quite a few other chain restaurants (Pizza Express, Carluccio's etc.) among the shops.

This is a busy restaurant but unfortunately very noisy so it is hard to hear what anyone in your group is saying. Food ok and service quite good, service charge automatically added to your bill.

Table service was quick and efficient. The vegetarian menu did not have a great deal of variety. I had the sauteed potatoes and spinach & cheese sausages. The small serving of potatoes was ok, but the sausages were death by coriander, which was awful and I only ate half of one of them. The chocolate mousse for desert was excellent though

Since moving to Dorchester a year ago I have visited this Cote on many occasions. The brunch is always fantastic - and good value too. The dinners have been very good too - delicious food!

Never been to a Cote before but friends recommended it for our meal with them. It was for lunch and we opted for the fixed menu, 3 courses for £15. There was a very good choice for all 3 courses, each different to the usual lunch menus in 'chain' restaurants. Service was quick and very efficient and the waiting staff very friendly and smiling. The first course took little time to arrive and each course was cleared quickly and the next course served with just a short break that was just right. The food was excellent, tasty, hot (except the ice cream that I had!!), even the water that we asked to be served with the meal was replenished without asking. Overall a very pleasant and filling lunch and represented very good value for money. I have nothing negative or critical to write about.

First visit to the Dorchester branch of Cote - staff quite outstanding, clearly well chosen and well trained. Food of consistently good quality cheerfully served and in particular steak cooked exactly as requested. Very enjoyable and excellent value as expected from Cote. Keep up the good work!

Started ok with pleasant waitress but she then went off duty and we were brought our main meal while still eating our starter. Main course would have been ok if french beans had not been almost uncooked. Al dente is one thing but they were just raw. Also object to gratuity being added to bill. Not recommended.

I have recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease...we love eating out as a family regularly and Cotes was amazing they gave me my own menus which had such a variety of foods I didn’t know what to choose...my food came out with a flag in it so it didn’t get mixed up with the others.

Cote is one of the restaurant chains we often frequent in many different towns. This branch did not disappoint. The early diner menu is good value with a reasonable choice of dishes. Served efficiently, no fuss or bother. We will continue to use Cote on our travels

We were looking for a restaurant for Brunch and the Cote Brasserie was so accomodating. We had to let them know in advance who wanted what. The breakfast meals were delivered quickly to the tables (which has been especially laid out for us) all kinds of breakfasts from crepes to full english breakfasts. All served with tea or coffee and fruit juice (if you plate de jour). Every single one of us enjoyed our meal, the servers were excellent and we hope to go back again. They were also able to provide vegetarian & gluten free breakfasts.

Really great food, my favourite so far is the steak frites, and the creamed spinach side dish is so yummy too. The charcuterie board is tastey as well. All the food is lovely, and the service is good. Prices are a little higher than usual and a service charge is added to the bill which is a bit strange, because we would normally leave a tip when happy anyway.

The best breakfast in Dorchester and terrific value. Package of full breakfast, coffee, orange juice and toast with marmalade. Helpful staff, food brought to table direct from kitchen so it's still hot. Always well cooked. Excellent lunch menu with consistently high standards. Strongly recommended!

Excellent menu with a cheaper meal option if you go before 7.00pm. Service is reasonable given how busy the place can get. You really need to book in advance to get a table especially at weekends.

We stayed nearby and walked up the lane to the pub hoping for an evening meal, but it was all closed up and the garden was overgrown. Possibly it’s fallen victim to the lockdown? (The last review was February 2020.) It didn’t seem as if anyone was at home. A great shame for such an ancient establishment if it has gone to the wall. 😢

Ria went above and beyond today to make us feel valued customers and made sure we had everything we needed to thoroughly enjoy the foods we bought. The selection of pastries, cakes we tried today are the best we have had from a bakery. Thankyou
