As usual, when you get a lot of foot traffic, the service level drops due to complacency. Lovely food as always, but much to improve on. Also very disappointing the owners insist on card payments as ‘apparently’ they don’t trust their staff with cash payments! What’s the world coming too!?

Haven’t been to this Cote before and really liked it. Relaxing and cosy decor, interesting brunch menu. Excellent friendly and helpful service. Unfortunately they ran out of smoked salmon but I tried the breakfast cassoulet with Toulouse sausages which were yummy. Would not recommend Cote COvent Garden, due to poor staff service, average quality of food and relatively expensive prices due to proximity to West End theaters. Avoid arriving early - we dared arrived 30 mins prior to our booked arrival time of 6pm. Even though numerous tables were open in the restaurant, the Maitre'D insisted that we sit outside in the cold and wind, while waiting for our 6pm booking time, because "the restaurant was crazy busy"... We ended up sitting outside, looking onto an open table inside the restaurant - whihc remained open and unused until we were seated at the exact samne table inside at 6pm. No explanation from Management, and a "cannot be bothered" atitude was extremely disappointing. Not how you want to kick off an evening at the theater. To add insult to injury, the Maitre'D then continued to give tables to random walk-in customers after 6pm - which we could see happening, because we sat right at the entrance.

Standing in door, about 5 waiters and waitresses ignored me until I called out and asked if they can seat me, at which point the waiter looked at me blankly. I was seated finally at the bar while table was made ready, pushed past by bar staff, the lady who sat me there came and pushed my chair in and told me it is too tight! The cheese souffle was liquidy, no taste. Confit potatoes, I could not eat. Too much parsley or whatever was in there, a very weird version of hash browns. Praline tart was dry and ice cream tasted of nothing. Never again

Full of pre theatre bods (like us) getting a swift meal before trotting off to the relevant show. A bit squeezed in with next table having 5 seated for a table that was tight for 4. Due to the busy time attracting a waiter was a challenge, but not impossible. Probably more fun if not going to the theatre after! But experience was not unpleasant.

We have dined at cote for many years, be it in Windsor or Convent Garden, the staff have always been great (although short staffed in Windsor, bad management not bad staff) we can understand high running costs ie rent, rates, high energy bills, rising minimum wages etc forces restaurants into cost cutting overdrive, but the food quality has now dropped below acceptable levels. The Chicken liver pate used to be the best around sadly no more, the pork belly substandard, the sauce in the moules mariniei just not right anymore, and don’t get me started on my favourite The calamari, The first to go was the lovely Tartare sauce now replaced by some cheap burger sauce, the calamari themselves used small in size, covered in breadcrumbs and deliciously presented with an amazing taste, now they are a massive onion ring like concoction, the breadcrumbs have gone now coated in batter and served greasy and with an unappealing taste . Rant over, please change back to the old quality food.

We were lucky to get a table, as we didn’t have a reservation and the place was busy in the lead up to Christmas. Thankfully, we didn't have to wait too long but our table was right next to the door and we (me, in particular) were in a draught each time the door was opened. There was a bit of a curtain across the door but it didn’t really help. Given that we hadn’t booked, we couldn't complain, though. Not booking a table at such a popular restaurant is a lesson for the future!! We really liked the menu and struggled to choose. In the end, I opted for the cheese soufflé to start and followed it with the fish parmentier whilst my friend started with the brulee camembert and had confit pork belly for her main. We both agreed that the food was utterly delicious and authentic. My friend said the pork belly was so tender and melt-in-the-mouth, with perfect crispy crackling, whilst my fish parmentier was really tasty with lovely distinct flavours. Portion sizes were good and we both thoroughly enjoyed the food which was served piping hot. Including a cafe latte each (decaf for my friend and ordinary for me), and a 10% service charge, the bill came to £72.44 which, given the quality of the food and the restaurant’s prime location, was reasonable. Overall, the combination of delicious food, comfortable ambience and decent prices impressed us and it’s definitely somewhere that we'd visit again (with a reservation, of course!).

I’ve never been a fan of restaurant chains…. until yesterday ! We met up with some friends who were in town for the weekend and my partner had been to Cote before, but not this one. Upon entering there was an air of laid back professionalism and the decor and ambiance was so much better than any chain I’d ever been to. We sat down and a friendly waiter took our drinks order, bottle of Cremante and bottle of Merlot, which were reasonably priced, especially for Covent Garden ! We placed food orders and 10 minutes later our starters arrived. All were excellent, good size portions and well prepared. My calamari was fresh, the batter was light yet crunchy and it came with mayo and lemon slices. I thought it excellent value. My 3 companions also enjoyed their choices. My main was Moules Mariniere. Very good portion of fleshy, perfectly steamed mussels in a white wine sauce with just a hint of cream so that the mussel liquor still came through. This came with perfect frites. I eat this in many restaurants and this was as good as any, better than most. A rib eye steak cooked medium was enjoyed and the other 2 mains were also good. No room for dessert as the portions were of a good size. Pleasantly surprised with the bill which including 10% tip came to £180. So £45 each. Remarkable value anywhere these days but for central London, exceptional. The staff were well trained, courteous and efficient: all in all a lovely 2 hour lunch. I will definitely be returning and can highly recommend.

I never gave someone that low , but with my all respect it was well deserved this time! We came today and there was only two groups in front of us. I went inside to inform them about us as we were only two so they can note us down on the list like what others did In front of us . Anyway, I went inside and I spoke to the lady as I told her by the world “were two waiting outside, is there any table for us in the meantime” she immediately interrupted and said we do t serve outside on any table . I told her were waiting in the queue.. I'm not asking for outside table . She said alright we don’t have then cream caramel 😅. I was really shocked with her attitude, she immediately wanted a reason to tell us no . I told her we’re here for dining having our dinner! She said sorry we have problems snd I cant offer you a table. Not that she was accepting walk in as we asked all groups Infront of us and behind us. I was really shocked again cause she spoke to me in a manner with an angry tone and attitude Infront of all the people … shame on her really, were here to dine not asking for free food!! I told her what problems of me not sitting, she responded be cause we have delays in food😅😅. Again if thats the case why its only us when all others are going to be seated and accepted. I want to note I have been to cote in previous years and it was the best but because of what happened today we will no longer come back. I had a pleasant Christmas dinner at this charming café with a French-inspired vibe. Although I experienced some issues with the online booking system, the kind and efficient administrator at the café resolved everything on the spot, which made for a smooth and welcoming experience. The food was good and complemented the festive atmosphere nicely. I tried their non-alcoholic Christmas cocktail, but I wouldn’t personally recommend it—it tasted more like a sweet compote. That said, I wasn’t feeling my best and avoided regular cocktails, so this might have influenced my preference. Plain water would have been a better choice for me. A special mention goes to Rahul, the waiter, who was polite, attentive, and made sure everything went smoothly. The café’s location in the heart of the theater district is also a big plus, adding to its convenience and charm. Overall, I enjoyed the evening. When I reinforced that we had a reservation, we were finally sat down. There was no steak frites (how?!?!?) and the waiter mixed up our burger order, getting neither one right. The glass of wine I ordered never came. Add in the fact that about 5 glasses broke behind the bar, we had the feeling that we were at the Fawlty Towers experience down the road. It looked like that the staff all hated each other due to the constant chaos and bickering on the floor. Côte is a reputable chain but this branch puts shame on its name. Avoid.

Having been to Cote in other cities and having thoroughly enjoyed it, we thought booking a table at Cote Tavistock Street would be a safe bet following a busy day’s sightseeing with our family. On arrival our table wasn’t ready (no big issue) however the lady we spoke to was very brusque, which immediately gave us a negative first impression. We (2 adults and 2 children) stood at the front door, where there was very little room to move with people coming in and out of the restaurant, the kids getting squashed each time. When some people left, the lady who we spoke to when we arrived ended up offering us a table right at the front door - which we politely declined as the door was constantly opening and shutting and having booked well in advance, it didn’t seem fair that we should have to sit there. After a while we were shown to another table, which had become free. It was in a nice part of the restaurant and we hoped that our experience would improve from that point. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Service was not at all attentive, nobody mentioned to us that the prix fixe menu was not available (despite featuring on the menus we were given), we had to ask multiple times for the drinks that we ordered. It was evident that waiting staff were too busy and stressed and so weren’t able to provide the service that you would expect from a restaurant (and that we have experienced in other Cote restaurants). It’s a real shame as the food was nice enough. We left the restaurant after our main courses feeling disappointed with what we had hoped would be a lovely family meal out.

We had gone to London to see a show as a surprise for our daughters 13th birthday and thought we could grab dinner before hand. We didn't book but the lovely greeter managed to move a few things around to accommodate us. Our two waitresses were very attentive, we thought we might be forgotten as our table was hidden away a little but we were not. The food we thought was fantastic but one of the waitresses came over and asked if she could take away our daughters burger as she (the waitress) didn't like the look of how charred the bun was. We thought that was wonderful as we hadn't even noticed or commented on it. Later our daughter was surprised with a birthday plate of cake, ice cream and a candle because the other waitress had overheard us talking about her birthday. You have such an amazing team there, they are a credit to you and on top of that the food was fantastic. Thank you. Ps the non alcoholic cocktail was the best she's ever tasted !

Newly refurbished..cosy Sunday lunch experience in heart of Covent Garden. Food even better here than some Cote venues but service and attention is 5* (thanks Katriona and team). Worth a visit for exciting good value french cuisine.

One of the worst dining experience ever. Met for breakfast there. My cote breakfast looked like it had been thrown on the plate not placed. The beans stone cold. I asked for new beans. The waitress looked so put out I asked. She then said I warm them up ? I said no replace them. THEY CAME BACK COLDER. Tomatoes on plate not cooked. Rest of the breakfast was avg at best and luke warm. I knew after bean gate I was wasting my time. Best bit was the toast and that was stone cold too. Would I return NOT A CHANCE.

So this was a great surprise for us. We started with a French onion soup that was really tasty, it’s a heavy broth with cheese bread. Then we had the beef cheek bourguignon, the meat was super tender you could slice it with the fork, amazing and the sauce it’s on delicious. They didn’t have smash potatoes that come with but they offered us dauphine potatoes that were also good. We also ordered the duck confit that was also really tasty. The dessert was delicious too. Overall a great experience, service super friendly and atmosphere really nice. Thanks for everything

Thank you for providing an incredible dining experience. The food was delightful; our group of three ordered a variety of dishes from the menu. The starters arrived promptly, and each one was perfectly prepared—especially the calamari, which was golden and crunchy without being overcooked. For the main courses, we enjoyed mussels, duck leg, and salmon. Everything was flavorful and beautifully presented. The desserts were simply delicious, with the chocolate fondant standing out as a must-try—warm and rich. In addition to the fantastic food, the staff was welcoming, professional, and friendly. The entire experience was truly delightful. Thank you once again!

Knowing you way around London is one thing to do. You can find places to go, things to see, and a good place to eat. And, in London, that is possible on all levels. And one time you want to know where to eat is when you are going to the theatre that evening. Shows alls tart at different times, so you need to know where to have dinner before the show starts. Once place we found this time around was COTE in Coven Garden area which is really on ST. MARTIN'S LANE Not far from Charrington a block away. It is a small restaurant with a French flair. And, being in London, this is a good place for a difference. The day before we saw a line out the door around 630pm. People were trying to get in but it was packed. So the next day we went at 530pm and got ourselves a table. No problem on that. We sat down and within less than an hour the place was packed. It was a good thing as we were going to see a show and needed to be out of COTE by 7pm. Out waiter was great. He presented the menus and provided help as to the special of the evening and even the pre-theatre specials of whether a 2-course or 3-course selection. We had time to think and to consider what options we should pick from the menu. It took a bit but we decided. We also ordered an appetizer Charcuterie board with Savoie ham, truffle saucisson, Coppa ham and pickles with toasted sourdough baguette. This was ideal with a glass of wine to compliment that. We then decided on one 2-course pre-threatre selection which included the Charcuterie board followed by the Poulet Breton Rôti. It is corn-fed marinated roasted half chicken, topped with herbs and served with fries. It was also topped with a special mushroom sauce for additional flavor. A good dish that complimented the other dish we had. We also received an order of Moules Frites. Special rope-grown British mussels in a white wine, shallot and cream sauce served with frites. This alone was a meal itself. These musselts were very fresh and tasty. The sauce perfect. For dessert we decided to convert the 2-course meal to a 3-course meal. For that we ordered the Apple Tarte Tatin. This is a very classic French dessert invented. It was caramelised apples with a puff pastry base, salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. And an espresso of course to complete the meal. Overall, it was a good place to be. The waiter was wonderful and a true gentleman. The prices were perfect. The portions and quality ideal. Service ideal. And the atmosphere was like being in Paris. Tables close together. People talking. Food coming around to all. We also left in time to get to the theatre that night. Merci, Cote.

Fantastic evening at 2850 by night. The manager, Raymond, made us feel very welcome right from the start. Service was a bit slow but they were understaffed and we weren't in any hurry. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the food was excellent and reasonably priced for a venue with live music. When I dropped my knife and then my napkin a new one was immediately provided. The music was as relaxed swing. My son's girlfriend just fancied a fresh orange and sugar for dessert and this was provided and the highlight for her as a Spanish jazz singer songwriter was singing live at the end of the evening on the stage. Topped off a wonderful evening and we will return.

We were looking forward to dining at Gauthier Soho, but the experience fell short of expectations. While the restaurant is known for its vegan fine dining, the food lacked creativity and depth. The flavors were mostly uninspiring, and the set menu format made the evening feel mechanical rather than special—more like a production line than an intimate dining experience. Nothing stood out as refined, joyful, or memorable. Beyond the food, the service and ambiance were underwhelming. The welcome at the entrance was indifferent—no warmth or personal touch—and retrieving our coats at the end was chaotic. The setting itself also needs an upgrade: the ground-floor carpet was worn and dirty, the dining chairs’ upholstery looked dated, the dinnerware was surprisingly basic, and even the toilets could have been cleaner. There was nothing elegant or sophisticated about the overall experience. We also did not see Chef Alexis Gauthier that night, and perhaps that absence was reflected in the lack of personal or creative flair. That being said, we fully support the restaurant’s vegan vision and appreciate efforts to bring plant-based fine dining to a wider audience. However, there are many better options in London—both in terms of quality and price. We paid £300 for two people, and that didn’t even include a drink pairing. At this price point, we expected a far more refined and memorable experience. To top it off, we were surprised to receive a note with the bill encouraging us to write a review immediately in exchange for a “gift” from the restaurant. This felt very transactional—as if we were being nudged to say something positive for a reward. It left us with the impression of a business mindset rather than a place truly focused on hospitality and guest experience. Unfortunately, we wouldn’t recommend Gauthier Soho, as it neither delivered on culinary innovation nor provided a setting worthy of its reputation. Finally, the presentation by the owner on Google is truly misleading (we found out after our dinner): "Having earned a star within a year of opening Gauthier Soho, Alexis Gauthier is described by Zagat guide as "...one of the Best New French food destinations in London...". The fact is that Gauthier Soho earned its first Michelin star in 2011 but LOST it in 2013. Currently, the restaurant does NOT hold a star in the Michelin guide.
