Costa Coffee in St Albans

Exactly 1 week ago, i popped in for some shelter from the rain, i hd been camping and needed to warm up, i don't usually go to costa coffee as i'm more inclined to support small independent shops, however you embraced me, warmed me up and the hot herbal tea was just what the doctor prescribed. staff were found vibrant and friendly in there own lively bubble, attentive enough to care, to serve but still individual and having fun, pliant of room and space to pick a table of choice. Thank you

Came in for my morning coffee before work and witnessed an emotional and unprofessional manager sack a poor girl on the spot?! This employee was clearly distressed by this, and the manager allowed this whole conversation to happen IN FRONT of customers!!!! Incredibly unfair for all the customers in the shop trying to have their peaceful morning! Unfortunately I am a manager in a Hospitality environment myself, and was shocked to see the lack of professionalism and choice of disgusting language used on this young employee and hence why I am coming on here to place my complaint. These conversations should NOT under ANY circumstances be in front of customers. I will not be returning to Costa as I can never pay money into a company that allows their employee’s to be treated this way. Incredibly poor management.

A nice place for coffee and a snack. We use the one in the Maltings. Now selling a selection of M&S food. As everywhere they suffer from staff shortages so the downstairs is closed at times. New drinks for the winter. Staff friendly and helpful.

Was served by Lavi, best iced coffee I’ve had out of all the costa coffee branches. Thank you 👍🏼.

The usual pleasant experience I would expect in a Costa outlet. Staff very pleasant and was glad the atmosphere was better than the other Costa on the High Street - last week anyway!

Be careful when you go downstairs you can hardly see a thing it's sooo pitch black. Definitely bring a touch 🤣

The place was great. It was busy, but in the basement, I still had some space 😊 The service was amazing. The man who served us was funny and polite, and the coffee was super great. Thank you

Great customer service clean and tidy

Quick service, young girl who served us us was really friendly and obviously liked her job. Nice carrot cake ,hot chocolate, caramel frappe.

Tried to order the Breakfast bap offer, but was refused, as I had already paid for my drinks (literally 30 seconds prior) !! Totally unhelpful server, no upselling of promotions, not impressed. Plenty of alternative coffee shops in St. Albans, shop around ..

You can always trust a Costa especially with this central location right in the shopping centre.

Always my first choice for a great coffee in the morning and were the staff and lovely and friendly.

Meh - it's OK- not the most comfortable Costa I've been to

I find it less busy than the Costa in the main street. Quicker to get served and if the weather is good one can sit outside.

Soooooo slooooow. Took forever to get coffee, the queue was not even that long. Also one of the worst fraps I have had in a Costa and it is usually one of my favourite afternoon treats. Weak, runny and tasteless.

As per usual, lovely coffee, especially the character roast but was disappointed as both my latte's were luke warm and not hot. Also had to used takeaway cup due to problems in house.

Brilliant . Great seating outside . Staff gave me a gesture of a free slice of cake when I informed them I walked all the way from the station in the heat just to come here

Entered the coffee shop at approximately 7-30am on Saturday morning with a friend and my 7 month old Shih Tux we were at the counter ordered our drinks and food. Took our drinks and sat by a window at the back of the shop. My toast had to be re-toasted as was barely warm happens no problem! Both times the same waitress served us not sure of her position. Sometime later toast eaten chatting together the waitress came and asked us to leave as a customer had complained, dogs were only allowed in while ordering, I did say we had not been told that and that I have visited a few costa with my dog and had no problems some have bowls of water down and a special seating area. She also said it was Costa policy. We started to prepare to leave at this stage with the waitress hovering over us I explained we were going to leave and no need to stay and watch us, she came with a feeble excuse that she was waiting to clear the table, not that she had done this to other customers. There were other tables that had not been cleared and cleaned! I will never go into that Costa again I am almost 70 years old and was not expecting to be treated in this way. If you want a decent costa coffee with your dog then do go to the one on North Orbital Road A414 St Albans AL21DL the staff are polite friendly and welcoming I will be going there next time trust me!

Coffee as good as usual Pretty slow service compared to other costas I’ve been to. It wasn’t that busy either

Usually like going to Costa coffee, but Costa at The Maltings changed that for me today. Received what looked like dishwater with milk(skinny latte). When asked to please make it again as something must have gone wrong, the barista rudely told me there was nothing wrong with it. When I asked her again to have a look at the colour she muttered under her breathe and swiped the coffee away from me. I asked for a refund and left. Tables were filthy as well. Won't be seeing me again.

Queue moved a bit slowly but other than that all good

Waited 12 minutes in line for a sandwich and didn't even make it to the counter so put it back and left. Staff spent 5+ minutes on trying to sell a Costa membership card to the person at the counter and the queue was coming out the door.

A quaint little branch in St Alban's with friendly staff and plenty of space to sit. What more is there to say? No problem with the food or coffee and just pleasant to sit down for my break.

Could do with staff being a bit quicker clearing tables, crockery was piling up on tables so no one could use them. Other than that it wasn't bad!

It might look full from the window but there is usually space in the cellar.

No complain as always nice coffee n cool staff. Love the outdoor hut for enjoying coffee but shame I couldn’t get space there so sit inside but hope next time

Was terrible... pre ordered drinks went in 10 mins later no one knew what was going on... then someone found the order and told the person making coffee what it was and where it was... 15 mins later no drinks but other people getting theirs... had to show the person where the order was and finally got it after about 25 30 mins in total... absolute shambles! Only ordered two coffees...

Lost a star because I had to clean my own table. It was a busy Sunday tho. Everyone was working very hard.

Standard branch of Costa, sited within The Maltings. Counter service of decent coffee, along with a fairly limited selection of pastries, sandwiches and snacks. There is some seating downstairs if the Ground Floor is busy. If you're lucky, you might find a vacant seat or two outside on a warm day. There are five or so small tables outside, including a couple under cover (often advisable in the UK!) Not an inspiring setting, but they have made an effort with pretty hanging baskets and shrubs.

Costa Coffee shop with an excellent manager, fabulous person, always makes every effort to make all customers very welcome and team fantastic, service was quick, efficient and friendly. For a couple of years now, we have been visiting this Costa shop, always been extremely pleased with the quality of service, cleanliness of the shop. Had a nice atmosphere.

The coffee has been changed and it doesn't taste as nice as before. Not happy about it. I will have to another coffee shop .

Limited seating outside, stated take out only but there were a few tables outside. Tables weren't wiped at all while we were there a good half hour, people were leaving and new people taking there tables but no one came outside to wipe anything down at any point but I don't think they had the staff to do it tbh. The outside area in costa st albans is a bit scruffy and unsupervised at anytime tbh and a bit of a smokers den at times, I think there sld be a smoking section as its unpleasant for non smokers wanting to enjoy a coffee without being chocked by smoke, its a difficult area as also alot of passing pedestrian traffic, really needs sectioning. The coffee and takeaway service inside was good, coffee usual good standard,

Reopened after lockdown and disappointed that both staff members are wearing masked on their chins or under their noses. Walked out before ordering because of this

‘Does anyone want coffee?' -Recently fired employee Costa corvfefe (neé coffee) is the twenty-seventh best coffee house in town, just behind Snappy Snaps and Thomas Cook. Positives: - Great service - Plenty of mugs - Service with a smile Negatives: - Claim to have wide variety of literature available to read, but still don’t have copies of International Light Rail Magazine - Staff member told me that I had so many negatives I should leave and go elsewhere (Jessops) -Plenty of mugs

Noisy noisy place why no sound deadening materials cant even hear the serving staffs questions when the 2 year olds and their mothers are shouting loudly at each other.

The drinks and food are great and the shop itself is really cosy

2018.- Staff pretty much disinterested. Americano was lukewarm. The places needs a refresh as is looks a bit grubby. When I left no "Thank you" or "Goodbye" as playing with their phones. Closed for a week for refirbishment. Might be an opportunity to enhance skills: table clearing, floor cleaning, customer service, i.e. all the essentials that are missing.

Prompt service, but not the most friendly staff on our visit... Coffee was the usual Costa coffee.

Lovely visit, the staff were wonderful, the drinks were expertly made and delicious. I also spoke to the manager and she is so welcoming and I enjoyed chatting with her.
