Costa in St Albans

I came into this Coffee Shop today and I have to say that it was clean, 2 meter distancing was followed and tables were cleared quickly. I was served quickly and both of the guys who were working welcomed me quickly. The quality of my drink was exceptional, one of the best I have had from a costa. I will definitely be returning, far better then the other costa and Nero!

Like all Costa branches that I've ever visited, it doesn't actually serve coffee. I describe what it serves as a "coffee-flavoured drink.The tables are dirty and it's often filled with school kids and mums with prams. Not the sort of place to go for a relaxing cup of coffee.How Harpenden can support 2 Costas is a mystery.

We go into this costa about once a week. We went in there today and the tables had not been cleRed the tables were dirty so were the floors. The floors had food and rubbish on them. Also I had to go and ask for them to put paper in the toilets. When I mentioned to one of the people behind the counter he said they were too busy to clear up. We have been there for 30minutes and hardly anyone had come in. They had been very tight on there cleanliness up till now. It’s a shame because we like the coffee. They had been very good on there cleanliness at the start of opening,but something has gone wrong!,

No atmosphere, bland music, ideal for all the yummy mummies and their prams. Luke warm flat white, tasteless teacake, Barely warm hot chocolate. Will deffo choose cafe Nero next time they have always been better than this, should have not tried change.

Called in for a coffee and was served promptly. This coffee shop does give the impression that it requires a lot of TLC and better lighting to brighten up the appearance. Nice coffee though.

Never really understood why they allowed 2 Costas within a few hundred feet of each other, in such a tiny town. This one is definitely the worst of the 2. The last 2 times I've been here I've had the wrong milk served in my takeaway coffee and then half a drink served to me. Staff are friendly enough but (looking at other reviews) clearly unhappy and poorly trained/managed.

The manager spies on her staff with a camera in every room so you can't sit down at all. She doesn't pay for trial shift and has poor management skills. However, the rest of the staff are quite nice so if you just want to grab a coffee go ahead.

Went in, a new member of the team being trained (this has to happen), but the way the manager / manager on duty was talking to them, i would have walked out.After we got our coffee, latte and water we went through to the back for a seat....only seats in the house where the abandoned prams everywhere. Again, not really the shops fault, but really impacts a meet up with friends or business meeting

The heating must have been on full and a center table full of kids doing some kind of arts and crafts day - does the local play center not do that? or village church?Popped in to get a drink and catch up on emails - left my drink and had a head ache.

My lovely hot chocolate from Costa Staffs always smile and friendly Definitely will go back again...😉

Today is 26.12.2018 my first and last time in Costa .Bad service and the worst coffee I've ever had.

Unfortunately bringing the name of Costa into disrepute. Understaffed,rude and unprofessional. Half way through paying the member of staff just walked off and started mopping the half of the restaurant he had closed to stop customers from sitting in. No one else helped, stood there for another minute and eventually sat down with my free coffee. 10mins later a young member of staff said he has forgot. As I write this the manager has closed half of restaurant as more and more customers come in to try and sit down in the few tables he is letting them sit in. When being asked if people can sit down he doesn’t even turn around and says it’s shut! Absolute joke.

I made a rare visit to Costa last week as was meeting with a friend and we needed some where cheap and warm to have a quick pre-Christmas catch-up. It was very busy, which was understandable on one of the busiest shopping days before Christmas, but I eventually got my order of coffee and a hot chocolate. The waitress then put two long spoons on my tray. One of them had chocolate dried onto the spoon bowl and the other looked like it had been in somebody's mouth. I pointed this out to the waitress (who seemed to think it was quite funny) and she took them away and replaced them with another two. These also looked pretty grubby so I handed them back and said not too worry about giving me any more but perhaps they should check their cutlery before handing out. The waitress (who again seemed to think it was all very funny) replied along the lines of 'well we put them in the dishwasher but we don't have time to check them when they come out' followed by the line that has had us laughing all Christmas 'we're just a little cafe, we're not high end you know'.Really? I wouldn't have guessed.

I got shouted at yesterday for no reason. I had two drink orders. I needed to check which drink is which. Barista called Molly/Dolly was rude . She pointed her finger wt head that i need to listen and told me i have attitude. I was shocked. Management should know.

Average drinks, average (expensive) bites, average service. It's a Costa after all! I can't recommend it, but it's a typical UK chain & you'll probably go anyway.

Costa has two branches in Harpenden. They share a very good manager. But God could the staff in the high street branch crack a smile or say please and thank you. What a grumpy bunch. Leave and get a job you like. Costa is great but I am thinking of a change!!

Popped in for toasted sandwiches and a coffee. Franchised store offering standard Costa fare. Sandwiches better than expected. Service clean friendly and efficient. Premises a bit narrow so feels a little cramped. Bustling at lunchtime. No complaints I am sure I will visit again.

Generally extremely busy, gets very hot. Last time we went the floors etc were dirty, it is one of the few places in Harpenden where we have seen so much dirt. Do they employ enough staff to clean it. Did not use toilet as thought it would also be unclean,only one toilet.

A little roomier now they've extended into the courtyard and coffee as you'd expect from a Costa. Not bad at all and a decent place to hide out and work, although the wifi can be a little temperamental so bring a hotspot with you!

This Costa is badly designed, as you are waiting for drinks etc there is a complete bottle neck at the serving area. The food and drinks are good quality but for a large chain with great buying power they are very overpriced.

Stopped in for a coffee. From outside looks small, but inside had so much space. Ordered a soya vanilla late and large chocolate chip cookie. Delicious on both counts. Well worth a pop in when in Harpenden.

Concretamente hablo del Costa situado en la zona centro. La atención fue muy buena y te preparan el café con esmero. Detalle en la espuma de dibujo navideño con cacao. Tiene una amplia zona con mesas al fondo con un techo de cristal que permite la entrada de luz natural. Disfrute de un buen café con un ambiente tranquilo y relajado.

Non sono un amante dei bar di questo genere, ma devo dire che i dolci sono buoni ed il caffè non è male. Anche l'atmosfera è molto rilassate, l'ideale per due chiacchiere in tranquillità, lontano dallo stress di ogni giorno.

Exactly what you expect from a Costa.Good service and excellent coffee. A pleasant environment too. Good choice of sandwiches.

It's a chain so not a lot different than the other Costas. Friendly staff and they have wifi. It can be crowded and noisy especially when local schools let out.

When someone senior (i.e. older) is in charge here everything works well – the tables are kept clear and the queue are never over long. At these times I would give them 4 stars – the coffee is too inconsistent in quality for 5. However if youngsters (teens and early twenties) are running the place you often have to clear a table of detritus from earlier customers, the queues are usually long and if you buy a panini it can arrived under done and anaemic looking. At times it sinks to a 1 star rating.

Been coming here since opened..I live in st albans now and still come come here..really nice coffee and really friendly staff..the atmosphere is great..couldn't ask for anything more..

Costa Harpenden (High Street branch) is a narrow, dimly lit café that did not feel very welcoming. There are some large windows at the back, but they are mainly covered by black card, thus blocking most of the natural light.
