Costa in St Albans

Lovely coffee and friendly staff but the toilet always needs a good clean, especially the bars to help disabled customers use the bathroom.

This is the worst Costa I’ve been in. It’s dark and dingy and the seats are filthy. It’s in urgent need of a revamp. The takeaway coffee cup was also only half full and had to ask for more coffee, the lady serving did give me a fresh drink, but no apology

It's a dark place but service good

My recent visit to Costa Coffee on the high street left me pleasantly surprised. The size of the venue caught me off guard, and it seems like many people might be unaware of just how spacious it is. Popped in for a coffee while I waited for my daughter to finish work. Was quiet in there, but the young lad and girl serving were both very polite and friendly. Nice and chatty while I waited for my coffee, will definitely go back again.

Very spacious at the back, great for strollers. Step free access. Fantastic staff.

Staff service is incredibly messy, spilt milk and coffee around prep area, unfriendly and scruffy. Dirty cup which was changed with no apology, raspberry almond bake was stale. Premium prices for below average standards.

Nice coffee, had a panini and latte to eat in and they made it a take away 😮. Never mind. Update . another visit two young guys working, seemed a bit lost , very slow. Waited ages . No tables cleared off.

The lady that served us was so rude .. foreign lady .. we asked a couple of questions on the coffee and drinks and she didn’t wanna reply .. She said that’s not in her Job prescription to explain the drinks ??? Are you working in Costa ??

Cold and wet day, so decided on a coffee. Greeted by a warm blast of air on entering. Very courteous staff, very efficient, very clean throughout, including the toilet. Great coffee and a cake which made me forget about the awful weather, until of course, it was time to leave. A great café which I will visit again for sure.

Why do they always serve an Americano in a huge pint sized cup! An Americano is a long black coffee, not a bucket full! However, the Hot Chocolate was delicious.

The service team were really friendly and welcoming. I was served quickly and the drink was great.

Had really great service here. The 2 guys serving were so friendly and helpful. Had the black forest hot chocolate and was absolutely delicious.

Always a good choice for your hit beverage. Plenty of seating at the back of the shop. Line moves fairly quickly if there is a queue.

Very busy place. Quite tight for a long queue. About 4 members of the staff serving/trying. Queue moved very slow and few customers gave up. Coffee was okaish Service and tight space was a bit let down.

Very near cold latte. Wrong change. Don't blame the young lad that was serving,obviously new. Shouldn't have been left out on the counter alone.

Service is good overall, but like a lot of branches now it's starting to look and feel a bit out dated. Chairs and tables are a little grubby.

Only had tea but staff friendly and polite.

After waiting far to long for my coffee to be made with my toastie sitting there getting cold as people who had ordered behind me had their drinks made… when I pointed out I was eating in as the boy started making my coffee in a takeaway cup I was accused of being rude. So I’m being berated for his mistake! I gave them back the dirty spoon the put on my saucer and tried to find a clean table… I will not be returning to this shop… worst I’ve been to!

Strawberry and cream frappe was great.

I had an excellent lunch at this establishment today. I particularly enjoyed the service provided by Adam as he was polite, courteous and answered all my queries to the best of his abilities.

Please please don’t hire new students to be barista, their drinks making is decent but they are soo slow.

Predictably Costa, good coffee, mocha and service.

That’s a pity that they are not even able to make a decent single macchiato. There was too much milk and the milk was full of bubbles (overheated which means you go straight to the toilet). Coffe was burnt. That’s a pity because they call themselves “Italian coffee shops” and in Italy a coffe like the one I had this morning would be a sin. TRAIN PROPERLY YOUR BARISTAS! Thank you

For its location in Harpenden, it was very run down and untidy. In dire need of a deep clean. Avoid and head along to the new cafe Gail's

Costa's are always nice places for coffee and lunch. The staff are usually very friendly and obliging and the service areas clean. However, some of their fabric chairs don't look too good. They often have stains and don't look very inviting. They should change them for leather/plastic hich can be cleaned easily. The toilets are often a bit smelly too. Not cleaned as well as they could be. But overall, I will continue to get my flat whites there.

Ordered a coffee to click and collect. It was ready in 5 minutes. Ordered a second coffee for someone else and a bakewell tart. The coffee was again ready in 5 minutes. Unfortunately no bakewell tarts today, but an alternative was offered. I would be happy to come here again.

Coffee great but service a bit on the slow side

One of the few coffee shops taking covid seriously. Staff checking that customers have checked in on the nhs covid app if eating in, and tables are very well spaced out. Keep up the good work

I am a fan of Costa Coffee, I like the taste and the staff at my local branch are always friendly. Not sure if Head Office really thinks through some of promotions they run though as what should be simple eg the app for ordering ahead doesn't stand up to the amount of traffic it gets and staff are left dealing with the result

Only a take away Tea for me but it was a good one, baby chinos for grandchildren all drinks were enjoyed...

Costa never fails to deliver , much better than the rival across the road . 2 lads serving today were very pleasant and professional, many thanks

Need to spend more time training the staff.ordered hot chocolate without cream and a cappuccino, got cold chocolate with cream and a flat white.

I came into this Coffee Shop today and I have to say that it was clean, 2 meter distancing was followed and tables were cleared quickly. I was served quickly and both of the guys who were working welcomed me quickly. The quality of my drink was exceptional, one of the best I have had from a costa. I will definitely be returning, far better then the other costa and Nero!

Like all Costa branches that I've ever visited, it doesn't actually serve coffee. I describe what it serves as a "coffee-flavoured drink.The tables are dirty and it's often filled with school kids and mums with prams. Not the sort of place to go for a relaxing cup of coffee.How Harpenden can support 2 Costas is a mystery.

We go into this costa about once a week. We went in there today and the tables had not been cleRed the tables were dirty so were the floors. The floors had food and rubbish on them. Also I had to go and ask for them to put paper in the toilets. When I mentioned to one of the people behind the counter he said they were too busy to clear up. We have been there for 30minutes and hardly anyone had come in. They had been very tight on there cleanliness up till now. It’s a shame because we like the coffee. They had been very good on there cleanliness at the start of opening,but something has gone wrong!,

Staff wearing face masks and plastic screens in place. Service was quick. Still customers not wearing masks even though signage at the door. Food and drink very good.

No atmosphere, bland music, ideal for all the yummy mummies and their prams. Luke warm flat white, tasteless teacake, Barely warm hot chocolate. Will deffo choose cafe Nero next time they have always been better than this, should have not tried change.

I can make no criticism of the Costa offering, it's franchised & delivered as such. The difference is in the people presenting the product. Most are fine, however can I just send a request to Danielle. Danielle, when dealing with customers, it is often polite to acknowledge them. Simple terms such as "Hello", "thank you" & "goodbye" are often useful in this line of work. Eye contact occasionally might be useful also. I could ask for a cheery smile, this may be a stretch. As the customer I felt like I was an inconvenience to your day. I'm sure that you would rather be elsewhere, just don't show it publicly, I think you let side down today. As my old schoolteacher said once "must try harder!" This is no criticism of your skills working here, nothing wrong with the food or drink, it's just the demeanour.

Called in for a coffee and was served promptly. This coffee shop does give the impression that it requires a lot of TLC and better lighting to brighten up the appearance. Nice coffee though.

Never really understood why they allowed 2 Costas within a few hundred feet of each other, in such a tiny town. This one is definitely the worst of the 2. The last 2 times I've been here I've had the wrong milk served in my takeaway coffee and then half a drink served to me. Staff are friendly enough but (looking at other reviews) clearly unhappy and poorly trained/managed.

Dirty tables. Lack of organisation making coffee. Taking 1 clea coffee cup from the kitchen at a time. Rocky road was good.

The manager spies on her staff with a camera in every room so you can't sit down at all. She doesn't pay for trial shift and has poor management skills. However, the rest of the staff are quite nice so if you just want to grab a coffee go ahead.

Went in, a new member of the team being trained (this has to happen), but the way the manager / manager on duty was talking to them, i would have walked out.After we got our coffee, latte and water we went through to the back for a seat....only seats in the house where the abandoned prams everywhere. Again, not really the shops fault, but really impacts a meet up with friends or business meeting

The heating must have been on full and a center table full of kids doing some kind of arts and crafts day - does the local play center not do that? or village church?Popped in to get a drink and catch up on emails - left my drink and had a head ache.

Costa staff knows us and what we have as soon as we join the queue they make our order ready.

Always love the best cuppa out there! Even If a lunchtime queue has started, the many staff behind the counter work hard to serve you. Never had a problem.

Not the best one I've been to. Dusting the lights above the food on display, one generic toilet with a dodgy lock, hot chocolate that was tepid... I won't be back anytime soon. The one near to the train station looked better...

There all pretty much the same. Know what your getting before hand. Went here for a coffee while waiting for my car at a local dealership

Gets very busy around midday but the service is still good well stocked with sandwiches and breakfast rolls

I Love Costa Coffee ❤☕...but it all depends on which one you go and what mood the staff are in on that particular day or time!🤔 1. Harrow Town centre could do with a slightly larger outdoor seating area! Team always friendly and the baristas there make wicked coffee✔😀 2.Harpenden always busy but never had a bad experience there yet. Team work very hard. Great coffee and atmosphere✔😀 3. Greenford shopping complex always serve brilliant coffee even when new staff member was being trained👍✔ 4. NOW Belmont Circle,Kenton is my local and very mixed reviews here as not alway clean, efficient,staff can be very rude and inpatient sometimes and seem like such an effort to make a coffee?🤔🙄🙁❌ This has happened on several occasions but sometimes depending who's serving it's not all bad. Not gonna give up on them🙄😀

Not a very experienced staff. They rush the service very much, and that reflects on the quality of the products. Toilet is not very clean, as well.
