. . . warm welcome, accommodating. We enjoyed our coffees and refreshments whilst doing research in a conducive environment. This is a lovely place and we love the smell of books! . . . a peaceful retreat on a Sunday morning with like-minded.

Ordered tea at £2.30 a pot for one. The teapot contained one tea bag. The tea was exceptionally weak even after stirring it and squeezeing the teabag. I asked at the counter for an extra teabag. I was told that would be another £2.30. I declined believing that this was blatant profiteering. I left shortly after. I emailed waterstones and received a short curt reply saying that they would find a solution. The solution is simple change your cheap teabags to quality ones.

This bookshop cafe switched from Costas to being independently run some time ago, and remains a very pleasant place to visit. The serving staff are always friendly and welcoming, and there is a good range of drinks (hot and cold) and food available. The latter are particularly good, with sandwiches and toasties supplied from Fife and amazing cakes supplied by Jessie’s Kitchen in Broughty Ferry. On the downside the cafe has poor disabled accessibility for anyone who can’t manage stairs, with no lift available to the upper floor the cafe is located on. But in other respects it is an excellent venue, and a welcome place to spend time, whether already visiting the bookshop to browse the shelves there, or just coming in straight in to the cafe.

Always nice to take in a Costa coffee in the atmosphere of a bookshop - the combination is perfect wherever it is!

The latest addition to the Costa estate in Dundee. Bright and airy. Well laid out. Pleasant and efficient staff. Well worth a visit after the strains of avoiding the hordes in the retail park.

Like the fact that Waterstones has its own Waterstones cafe in most of its stores. Good coffee and selection of panini, soups and cakes. Nice for a wee break after book buying downstairs.

Stopped here for a light breakfast. Nice choice, fair prices, and a fascinating setting on a sort of mezzanine floor.

There's a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It must be something in the mixture of shaving a coffee and a chat with family or friends while everyone below is browsing through books. The food is good, the service too. The staff are friendly in the cafe and the staff in the bookshop downstairs really know their stuff. It's just a lovely way to take a break from browsing.

Place is generally busy with people stopping on for a coffee and light bite to eat. Generally it is very clean however it is possible to tell when it is either short staffed or that it has been busy due to some of the tables still containing dishes from the previous customers. Staff are lovely in here and willing to answer a query that you may have about the products and/or services. Overall, Costa coffee in Waterstones is a lovely place for meeting up with people for a catch up in a warm and friendly environment.

Costa Coffee est un établissement qu'on retrouve un peu partout en Ecosse. Un bon endroit où prendre une boisson chaude quand le temps est bien humide. A vrai dire, c'est ce qu'il y avait de plus proche

Wonderful cafe in the bookstore “Waterstone’s”. Situated at first floor with a nice view to the bookstore. Plenty of people in the store and cafe, but there is room for it. A very good alternative to pub visits or other places in Dundee. The chocolate was good and the cakes looked good.

This upstairs cafe has been established for some time now and is well patronised. If meeting friends or family for just a coffee or a light lunch it is highly recommended.

Nice to look down on people browsing through all the books. The toilets are cramped and needed a good clean though....

Unfortunately the once excellent chilli burger from the characteristic pheonix bar let us down after years of being the best in dundee (in my opinion). The Chilli was warm, not hot as expected (not warm enough to even melt the cheese on top). Historicly the burger was never the best but simply an accompaniment for the tasty chilli, the new Scotts burgers are hard compacted with no taste or char to indicate a cooked fresh feel, more a pre cooked and just reheated on demand afair. The "fall apart" softie rolls used would be better swapped to a toasted brioche bun. Fortunately i opted not to eat the burger but 2 of us were still ill. A shame as the chilli was a "go to" for us on any day out.

The staff are miserable, the bar is miserable, and now I am, unsurprisingly, miserable.

Visited with husband and 2 grown up children before a show. The menu is quite compact but we all managed to choose different dishes so we could try everyone's! We had crostini, fishcakes and blaggis to start. All perfectly pleasant. The crostini in particular was popular. Our mains again were lovely although I found the pork a little dry and uninspiring, the mash could have been creamier. The star of the show was the onion rings we ordered on the side - these are delicious. We didn't have time for pudding so asked for the bill. This took a while to come. When it did arrive, we noticed one of the bottles of wine hadn't been added. We pointed this out and it was taken away to be amended. We again waited a LONG time, the kids went upstairs to the bar and a server eventually returned the same bill saying they couldn't fix it and just to add the price of the wine on it! I didn't find this very professional and was actually a bit uncomfortable as I tried to work out how much we owed whilst also trying to sort out a tip! It really spoiled the end of what had been quite a nice meal. To sum up, probably wouldn't visit again The food is fine, the environment pleasant and handy obviously for the theatre! However, whilst nice enough, I found the servers to be a bit unsure and not terribly skilled in the execution of their job.
