Costa Coffee Express in Uttlesford

Literally awful not what you expect from Costa , service was slow , table not clean environment below standard. Other options within services for coffee would have been a better choice.

Awful , very slow service , below the standard environment you get in a Costa , Avoid!

Three staff in such a busy place and after waiting in the queue for ages due to monumentally slow service, the person at the till left the till to get more coffee, leaving us standing there waiting to be served. It was obvious they were not going to come back to the till anytime soon so I walked out. Terrible.

Incredibly slow service. Queue the entire visit at these services were to the door but I just assumed it was popular and they churned through customers. Unfortunately, I was mistaken. Decided to go for a coffee for the road and I’ve now been stood in this queue for just over 30 minutes and I am FINALLY…3rd from the tills. 😥 The staff seem nice though, from afar.

This review is about neither the coffee nor the atmosphere its a really busy service station Now the service was slow but that was not a staff problem but an equipment failure 50% (the other coffee machine was kapput after being fixed in the morning but sadly broke down a hour or two after it was fixed) Why I am writing this is to say that Marcus handled the situation of a long queue splendidly No blame being assigned just went as fast as was possible kept order and kept people informed and that's why you get 5stars managing a crisis Truly a Hospitality professional All the customers who were moaning and groaning really created a bad atmosphere so that explains the 2 stars

went there to order 2 ice lattes, waited in the que for 10 min to be told at the counter they run out of ice. could have saved me and other people if they had placed a sign.

Inconceivably slow. Three staff managing to great a cue out of the store. And a 25 minute wait for a coffee. Won’t be back

Big shout out to Thomas for the great service. We were sitting outside and a lady had her dog and couldn’t leave her with anyone as the dog was shy. Before I could go in and get the lady’s drink Thomas took her order and offered watered for the dog .

the staff was disappointing, I asked for an iced drink, but there wasn't even a single ice cube... when I asked for an explanation, they pretended that I wasn't even there, they were doing their work behind the scenes and I was left like that .. until I got to the actual drink, I had to ask the barista IF HE WANT TO MAKE THE DRINKS, and he refused, he wanted 4 drinks to make and very nonchalantly said he didn't want to .. Anyway, thanks for the experience and minus 22 pounds from mya account my and surely this Costa is becoming a place of NEVER COME AGAIN..

I always stop here (or at the Peterborough X-tra Services) but not left a review before. Shout out to the friendly, jolly big guy (with a pony tail - sorry: didn't get his name, but he was on shift here around 1.00 pm on Wednesday, April 10th, 2024), who served me today. Great to see someone happy in their work and interacting with customers in such a good spirited way. Hats off to you, sir.

Like most of these places it was very noisy, lacking soft surfaces to absorbe sound. The music in the Men's toilet was exceptionally loud and intrusive. If you don't like Starbucks coffee choice is stomewhat limited. Just loved the high crime area notices at the entrance. The small amount of seating available in Pret is the only escape from the over powering noise and music.

Mark and Marcus are a credit to Costa coffee. They kept their calm when a customer got the hump when he was asked (very politely) to move so the floors could be cleaned. They gave him time to finish his drink (as they did us) but that was not good enough for him.

I have popped in several times when traveling to and from seeing family, the staff are always pleasant, it is clean. And most importantly I feel the Barista that served me today made the best flat white I have had in a while. Only annoying thing is the price.

Every single time I stop at this coffee shop, the queues are massive, of about 15/20 people. Buybe I'm just unluckily but by judging at the comments, it's not just me. 1 person at the till and 2 baristas in one machine. There is another 2 machines but are always empty. There is another Costa coffee stall outside but also not in use. Lack of staff is clearly the problem and its been for months! Not stopping here anymore. Mcdonalds makes espressos as good as here, but a ⅓ of the price and is just 10seconds away from this place. Shame.

We friends ordered 1-small 2-medium and large chai latte but that all Wes cold and the guy who served the coffees Wes very rude and this is the worst costa I had in my life 😤

No iced drinks when we visited.... also staff member doing the drinks prep was rude and snappy as I was using my own cup and was told me to remove the lid as they wasn't allowed to touch them. If you can't be nice and polite to th general public then your in the wrong job

Currently looking at a queue of 30+ people, and have waited for nearly 20 minutes to order. Can't tell if it's because one of the coffee machines if out of order, or whether the staff are just not using it. No apologies or reason given for wait. Certainly wasn't down to a lack of staff - two are standing behind the counter with their arms crossed doing nothing. Disappointing experience.

popcorn frappe without popcorn syrup or popcorn shavings…. literally cold sugary milk.

Terrible experience, coffees was cold as ice.Tasteless and Extremely poor quality i could not even drink half of it. The staff were extremely disrespectful and unprofessional,it's truly unbelievable how messed up this place is. No wonder why they got 2 star. Honestly, if I could give them 0 star, I would. Avoid this so called costa coffee please.

Limited choice of cakes here compared to high street stores. Often they are unable to serve drinks or food on china cups or plates, today it was because the dishwasher was broken, previously it was because it was only 3 hours before they closed. I suspect the hard pushed staff prefer not to wash up which is fair enough as there never seems to be more than 2 people working here. The whole place feels a bit down at heel and unloved.

Where do I start I went in for 2 sausage sandwich and 2 hot chocolates and the sandwichs was adequate but expensive and the hot chocolate tasted like water with a hint of chocolate and the staff seems like the didn't know what day it was absolutely shocking experience.

£4.70 for a medium vanilla Latte. Daylight robbery. Shocking. Avoid.

Very expensive -£4 for a small mocha. Tasted bitter and wasn't particularly hot. Was handed to me so quickly it couldn't have been made fresh. On the card machine you have to tap through a donation screen - very irritating and confusing for older customers on front of me. Weird noise coming from the air conditioning. I wanted to drink in but didn't even get the option and was handed a take away cup.

Okay if you would like hot drinks. Food selection isn't great the options aren't great and not a great selection but this could be the timings I've been in which is either early morning or late afternoon. You haven't been able to get ice drinks for months and months I'm really surprised this issue still isn't sorted out. I definitely recommend going to other Costas in the local area rather than this one.

Very slow, often queues and standing around. No urgency.

Staff were incredibly rude, tho one person had a smile it was totally fake. I ordered my coffee in a takeout cup and it was only half full (It isn’t a massive takeout cup), the worst bit is I saw them pouring half of it down the drain and served it to me with a spillage down the side of my cup where they had poured it out. What the heck? Never visiting a costa again, you would never get that service at Starbucks or Pret, let alone an independent shop.

Being a lorry driver i have been to many coffee shops. But this one here it is 0.60pence more then any other place i’ve been and the staff is just rude 😐😐😐 2young lads not fit for the purpose. Flat white oat milk looks like you have put milk&coffee in a cup in the microwave! And the taste is…. pfff just useless…

Although we ate in there were no proper cups and saucers available just take-away cups and food containers. No pouring cream available. Expensive. Cambridge Services is the worst Costa we have been in. Will not be visiting again.

I don’t know how they managed to ruin all of our drinks but they did. Undrinkable and very expensive.

Needed to buy hot drink and for that I need a milk alternative as I am allergic. And was told they dont have ANY alternatives. You can definitely see if you are running out of one, but in this case you didn't pay attention that all 3 options you dont have?! Really unfair

Pretty good Costa. Although the last coffee we had a couple of not so good ones! But good most of the time.

Very poor service, orders mixed up and incorrect, no points added at the counter due to poor staff.

Staff lied about filling my reusable cup and so caused unnecessary wastage of a disposable cup.

Rude staff - the worst Costa I have ever visited. Please avoid

I didn't want to give as high as 1 star. Challenged on entrance for not wearing a mask. Even though he wasn't wearing one. And an article states costa won't challenge customers as they may have a legitimate reason to not wear one. I won't be going back to this store.

The worst oat milk latte ever.. basically coffee with hot oat milk that i can do at home. 4 quid for a cup of disappointment

Normal costa prices and service - Good friendly staff. All costas are the same to me. Same choice within Range. Its within a service station

The main food court area of Birchanger services is - at peak times - about as close to Bedlam as you can get. Sometimes it's near-impossible to park, as we discovered last week. The loos are a bit whiffy, and it's disappointing to see so many men waltz out of them without washing their hands. The entrance to the loos is right by the 'Fone Bitz' shop, and the man behind the counter was starting to get tetchy about people standing around and blocking the way in to his little concession. Next to that is a games arcade - dark and forbidding - and then a Little Waitrose, which is quite pricey, but useful to top up on things like milk. But all the food court concessions are busy, including the Costa Coffee Express. If you manage to pick a quiet time, it's best.

Driving home to Peterborough, I felt tired after spending hours on the M25. So stopped at the services for a rest break. Coffee was good, freshly prepared and good sized cup. A great place to get that caffeine fix.

It was quite busy when I visited so had to queue for a while to pay & order. Staff were very pleasant & service seemed personal. Good service & good coffee.

Excellent Coffee, just like all Costa Coffee places are. What more can I say about it. It was hot and very tasty. Thank you.

The Costa Branding is always very standard and this venue is no different except it does have a good capacity and offers outside seating. The Staff member who served me had to be reminded that, although my first language is English, my brain could not keep up the her 'word speed' and the instructions about waiting for my food / coffee had to be repeated. The coffee was good and the snack OK The M11 is very sparce of Service Areas and the alternative would be to leave at another Exit and find another Rest Area that is not a challenging as this facility
