I am from Australia, and must say the battered fish was a bit dry. Chips were great though.

Best Fish and Chips in the area! The portions are huge. The food is always hot fresh and tasty! Never disappointed! Always a 5 star service!

Family of 7. So decided on 3 large chips to feed us as has something else cooked at home. Small portion to say the least. Every orher chippy you go to piled in tray. This chip shop bearly reached top of tray. Chips were all stuck to the paper also

Forgot to give us our chips! And our mushy peas. Just the fish. Pretty ridiculous that I have to write another 50 characters to say this and reach a 100 minimum.

Fish was lovely and the chips were ok. It was however let down by completely soggy batter !!! Take pride in what you are serving or don’t bother. Disappointing.

I used them once before and was very nice but tonight I was very disappointed chips tasted awful and the chicken and mushroom pie was awful the pastry was rock hard I will not be going back

The cod was poor which was a shame (dry, overcooked, bland) chips also average to poor. Battered sausage and pie was good though.

Really good chips and battered sausage, now I know where it is we will be back

We've had a couple of nice fish and chips from here previously but today was a total disappointment. Bones in every mouthful, tasteless fish, soggy chips. Whoever fillets the fish needs the sack!

Occasionally we have a fish and chip supper from Edwards. The fish is always delicious and along with the chips, cooked fresh. The delivery service is an added bonus.

Always use Edward's- a proper fish and chip takeaway. Open better hours than other local fish and chips places.

Haddock wasn’t great, chips were disgusting lots of bad bits very soggy, must have been a very bad batch of potatoes, had three bites of the fish about four chips , then threw the rest away, won’t be going back

Lovely size portions and fresh, slight delay with delivery through no fault of the driver, but staff were extremely accommodating.

Really gone down hill the last couple of times used them. Shame as was always crisp and fresh chips

I've visited a few times over the last 5 years when staying in the area and I have to say that this place ticks all the boxes. Food is excellent value for money and really tasty. One way I personally test this is by the type of chicken nuggets offered. These ones are the chicken breast chunks (not the processed McDonald's type) which is normally a sign of quality ingredients. Staff are friendly and just a short wait for food to be cooked. Can't ask for much more.

Waited over 15 minutes, ordered plaice and haddock, both overcooked and rigid. Didn’t get to see what what being plaiced in the paper - sold a pup. Was also accosted by a drunkard whilst having to wait outside.

Rubbish the chips were black and the cod was vile, very disappointed dont know how you can sell chips like that

Gave it a second chance tonight after disappointing previously. Soggy batter that peels off the fish when opened because it's stuck to the paper. Chips were so soggy they had congeleet into a massive clump by the time I got home (less than 5 mins walk). Fish inside soggy batter was dry and poorly filleted with numerous bones. Overall very disappointed and only visited because the chines opposite has even worse fish and the fact Flitch and Chips is a drive out of town unfortunately. Please open up in Dunmow at weekend F&C

Food was ok, nowhere near as good as the van that parks in tescos "flitch and chips" the fish wasn't very nice and had alot of bones in it. The spring roll thing wasn't very nice either. The place was clean and staff friendly just didn't like the food.

Really tasty chips; best in the area. Unfortunately I was ill for two days from the fish. My vomit and diarrhoea smelt of fish.

Portion size good - but could have been fresher. Ordered a large chips, large cod and a rock. Really happy that they had various fish options, and the portions sizes were good. I arrived for a take away, rather than calling ahead. Unfortunately the fish/batter was like they had been on the hot plate for a while - certainly not freshly fried. Understand they don’t want people queuing (particularly in the cold weather) but I’d have happily come back to collect if cooked fresh. I will try again as it might have been a off night.

Beautiful piece of skate tonight. Lovely fish, perfectly cooked. Very friendly and cheerful service.

I had 2 large cod, large chips, sausage in batter and mushy pea’s for the family.The fish was like chewing a flip flop and also had a lot of bones in.Chips were uncooked and the sausage in batter was shocking and even the dog turned its nose up at it. I will certainly never visit again and can imagine it’s par with prison food.

Had fish and chips delivered last weekend and it was excellent. Great service and a fast delivery especially for a Saturday night. Had a large cod and chips. Too much for me to eat but you can’t complain about that. The food was lovely and well cooked and packaged

Had 3 large cod and 2 chips - no one managed to finish! Fish were huge and one portion of chips would have been enough for 3. Highly recommended - had it delivered too!!

30/10/20 had Friday fish & chips with my Dad, disappointed my cod was FULL of bones, Dad's fish was fine. Many times I've eaten cod and chips from different chippies over the years and NEVER experienced this amount of bones! Phoned them at the time to explain, girl on phone told me to expect bones, I explained the amount I'd found was not good enough. She told me to come into the shop next day with photos.31/10/20 went into the shop, hope they will check CCTV about this! Woman incredibly rude and dealt with my complaint in the wrong way. I didn't even get an apology. She gave me an education on what I should be ordering (as if I was supposed to know this). I listened to her story and said OK that's great for me for next time, but what are we going to do about the fish that was unedible from the night before, I asked for a refund and she completely disregarded it/me and told me to come in another day when the boss is there... To which I replied why was I asked to come in the 31st I was told on the phone the boss would be there, she shrugged well he isn't (again as if I'm supposed to know this) - am I supposed to keep going in to the shop in the hope that the boss will be there? Total waste of my time to go in with photos, as I did not receive any refund or free meal offer or anything, no apology, just rude staff with poor customer service.I suffer with anxiety and for me to go in and complain was a big thing, I could feel myself shaking inside when I initially explained the situation, for her to deal with it in that way was totally wrong and it actually took a lot out of me. I have strong feelings about not using Edwards again after this, which is a shame!!

Most insipid fish and chips I've had in a long time. The batter was tasteless. The fish had bones poor filleting. Disappointing.

Stopped here , very hungry after a lovely day at the beach....sorry I did. I ordered 4 medium cod and two chips ( as fish and chip shops always seem to go crazy with chip portions). What a disappointment....never seen such small portions of either fish or chips. Ended up with a child portion at best, even phoned the shop I was so disappointed when I realised. Didn't matter though, all they said was we'll tell them in the shop!! Couldnt recommend this place, if you like fish and chips go to a proper one!

We recently moved to the area and stumbled across Edwards and saw they are currently delivering. The service over the phone when ordering was really friendly and the food was delivered in under 30 mins. When the food arrived it was piping hot, the chips were proper chip shop chips and everyone really enjoyed their fish (sausages and pies!). We will definitely be going again.

Worst fish me and the family had ever had. Awful. It’s not filleted and it tasted awful. We had to throw it away.

Great service yes but so many bones had to pull out of my mouth...not pleasant to be honest.

Regular visitor and thoroughly recommend, food great and staff super friendly and always willing to chat. Great curry sauce as well and take card payments so always a winner in our household on a weekly basis

Very disappointed as was passing through Dunmow this evening and fancied battered sausage and chips. Online and door said was open till 10. At 9.25 when I arrived this place was shut completely.

Good fish and chips slightly on the expensive side.

Edwards is very popular, however I feel because they are they cook their food early for the evening rush, meaning that the fish drys out. The chips always have potatoes eyes. Shame

Staff completely useless, one guy standing around doing nothing the other can't work the till, then they don't serve you instead they make up orders which are left on the side to cool. Quality of the food is fairly poor as well, chips under cooked with a side order of hair. Won't be returning anytime soon.

Have had fish and chips from here before so thought that we would go there again. We'll what a disappointment. The chips looked like they had been left from lunch time and the fish was full of bones. The staff were taking amongst them selves while serving the customers. Would definitely not be going back.

Over cooked and over priced food

Given the vast choice of differing takeaways in Dunmow you would think that each and every one would make an effort to stand out and show their ability to provide good quality food.Tried Edwards twice and both times the fish is dry and of poor quality. The chips are poor, I can’t put my finger on why they are so bad but I’ve never had anything like it. I would complain that the portions are also tiny but when they’re this quality maybe that’s a good thing?!Having lived in Dunmow for 9 years I simply cannot understand how they are still in business.

Excellent fish and chip shop , great value for money , friendly staff and possibly the nicest curry sauce for miles around . Definately be back if im in the area .

The best fish and chips in dunmow by far. Great staff and lovely taste to the chips. Plenty of choice and traditional batter which is lovely and crispy. Please don't change this place it's a gem.

I personally won't be bothering again. You'd think with Flitch & Chips opening up locally, the people at Edwards would up their game a bit. Chips dry, a large portion certainly isn't as big as a medium from elsewhere, and the fish was inedible. Dry, tough, full of bones, soggy batter. Vile!

The shop looks lovely from the outside and clean. Don’t let that fool you. The staff are non engaging, taking the local market for granted. I bought a pie and it was like taking a bite of sand. The company policy shouldn’t be what ever we cook we must sell! It should be let’s quality control everything and if it’s not good enough to give to eat then bin it. The pie would have been sitting in the glass warmer since they opened. It was the driest thing I have ever eaten in my entire life and they had the cheek to take my money. The fish looks the same and to be honest everything in the glass warmer looked dry. I wouldn’t go back because I doubt they would ever change. When you open a food business don’t just think money. Money is important but not at any cost! What other short cuts are they taking to make money?

So how weird.. Have used Edwards, numerous times,NEVER AGAIN!! My partner went to buy the family dinner.Went the order was complete, presented the cashier with £30, for which he turned his back to him,he checked the £20 note and then shout oh no, this is not right it’s fake.When handing the note back sighting it to be fake, the note was not the note he had handed to cashier it was an older ripped one. After a brief arguement and asking to view the cameras, of course making naff excuses, why they couldn’t. This is a scam!!!! How disgusting....These thieves should be found out

Simply very dirty staff She drop a sausage in the floor and she try to give to me. When I say to her that I dint want that sausage she put it back for sale , make you wonder if that is what you can see what else the do to your food

Got a takeaway and the food has improved greatly since last time. Would have been difficult to get worse. Proper chips; not just the end bits. Fish now OK. Will visit again soon and if the experience is repeated, will consider 5 stars for food quality.

Lovely fish and chips nice staff

I use Edwards regularly and do not have a bad thing to say about them, they have lots to choose from, prices are affordable and the quality of food is 5*. The chicken nuggets are proper chicken breast and are the best i have ever had. Would highly recommend :)

I go to Edwards regulary and have never been dissapointed, staff are always happy to help and put fresh battered sausage in if i am happy to wait of course. Quality is 5* and affordable prices. Don't have a bad word to say about them.

50 mins before close I don't expect to be told that we "didn't come at the right time" and that basically no food was available! No large cod, no large battered sausage, no bread rolls, no mushy peas and no gravy. And that's only out of the things we asked for! The staffs attitude was rude and disappointing. At least be polite enough to tell us what you are able to offer. And for a Thursday night when you have no stock...I really hope you're getting a delivery before Friday and the weekend! We were only offered what was left on the hot counter and that came with a portion of disappointing attitude too! The only saving grace was that chips and fish were very nice!

The staff are nice but the batter on my fish was very soggy and my girlfriends fish was full of bones. Chips where nice though and my cat enjoyed the fish which we couldn’t eat :). I don’t want to slate a place but they need to cook fish to order so it’s crispy not have it sitting there on the warmer for ages

Fish was dry and chips weren’t great either. Didn’t seem very busy and having tasted the food I can see why.

The food here is fine. The reason I won’t be returning is the attitude of the staff. Having asked for an item from the menu I was abruptly told: “I haven’t got any ready” so I enquired how long it would take to prepare. I was abruptly told: “too long”. So, I asked how long that would be, as it was what I went in for! The rather rude staff member snapped: “10 minutes”.

Disgusting savaloy was extremely dry chips were left over from their lunch time. Would not advise going. Chinese fish and chip shop Is better across the road.

Pleasing everyone when it comes to fish and chips, isn't an easy task. I think that Edwards have nothing to worry about. If you're in this place when it is busy, and everything is coming out fresh, it takes some beating.

I can honesty say I am very surprised by the previous reviews of Edwards! I found my food to be very tasty, and not at all greasy! I was very pleased with my order and will definitely be visiting and recommending this place to others!

We were here last year... it may have changed since then, but we were very disappointed. When we got home with our fish and chips, in great anticipation we pulled back the paper, however we were dismayed to find the fish was dripping in grease and the batter was soggy. It was inedible, so we went back to ask for a replacement, and were refused. We were told that it was "absolutely fine, this is fresh fish, nothing wrong with it". They refused point blank to refund us or replace the meals. Haven't been back since, and no plans to in the future!

Less than mediocre food; thin, greasy chips and dry mushy peas. The worst part was the rude, ill mannered service. Not the way to treat customers. Amazed it's still in business.

I can honestly say the worst chips I have ever tasted more like French fries then chips and very greasy I had about 3 chips the rest went in the bin AVOID

I have Not used this Fish & chip shop for over two years,as the food was so bad last time we used it. After coming home late the other night I said lets get one portion between us from Edwards. Wish I had not bothered.

Went to this fish and chip shop a while ago now, but thought would try again as maybe be better....... but, NO, It is dreadful!

I asked for a medium haddock, chips, and two curry rolls... Was told I could only get a large haddock! Six quid for the smallest 'large' haddock I have ever seen!!! Chips were hard and under cooked, curry rolls were soggy as! That place sucks and they need to up their game or reduce prices to reflect their crap food!!!

Chips always seem to be the edge of the potatoes. Fish may have been left over from earlier. I live nearby but try to avoid. It is a shame that a town like Dunmow does not have a decent fish and chip shop.
