Costa Coffee in Mid Sussex

Went for a coffee. Was very busy with very few staff working just two, one was tied up serving and making iced drinks and nothing else the other trying to do everything else they failed to serve many people the queue was long and many people were leaving before ordering. They lost many orders. When I eventually got served the coffee was great, but tables weren’t being cleared because of lack of staff

We like coming here and the recent makeover has improved the atmosphere. However, they are very poor at clearing and wiping the tables so the place looks uncared for. Also, I agree with other reviews that the staff should try to smile as it does really go a long way to improve things for everyone!

Needs improvement.........we had not been in this cafe for a while and it will a long while till we go again. As we came to the front of the queue, we had to wait as the person behind us had preordered and they were allowed to go ahead and order extra drinks too. Time taken by this customer was longer than usual as the person serving didn't listen and the order had to be repeated numerous times. The card machine was not working so cash only and then I was given the wrong change - too much which I gave back.

Hi me and my friend went to get some drinks other day we wanted cream n marshmallows They was so rude Aswell am they didn’t even listen to order then my friend orderd a drink n cake and her cake didn’t even come to the table when we tried to go back up there they knew we was there but started serving the next costumers rude as they need stop being so rude Next time remember our order and stop talking about us to.

Very slow service, a smile wouldn’t go a miss, tables not cleared, coffee served and spilt by barista without apologies, no wipes to clean up, more interested in making sure pick up orders are ready rather then customers in shop, nearly left, nice cup of coffee

I used to avoid this cafe as I found it dirty, noisy and claustrophobic. However it has recently had a makeover and I like it much more now. It is much cleaner and doesn’t seem as noisy or crammed. New manager (I think) is very cheerful, friendly and efficient. What would make it even better is if the other staff were friendlier too. Not important to some customers but it goes a long way for me to receive a smile with my order!

It has recently been decorated as it needed it! Looks great, however service is so terrible, slow, they dont listen properly to orders, its like they have no idea what you're asking for even though they've been working there for a while. An example today, coffee machine broken was broken and being repaired, that was fine, so i had a cold drink, she then asks the lady behind "Hi can I get you coffee today?" Lady said yes please can I have...." she then says " no sorry we can't, we can't do coffee at the moment, the machine is not working"... Its such a weird experience.... don't go if you're in a rush!

Waited long for my coffee and staff are very unhelpful ,guy that seemed to be in charged had no clue what he was doing - place is a mess

This place has gone downhill. Interior is dilapidated. Machines look dirty. Paper cups and no plates! Hardly any food selection. Won’t be back!

Heavily understaffed that I felt like I couldn’t even complain about my “hot chocolate” not being hot enough. So many tables still had left over cups. Insufficient customer service at it’s finest. The only thing that was okay was my panini.

I disagree with the older negative reviews here above left, entirely. Over the years, yes there's been a lot of change of staff. Now a new manager too who's well deserved his recent promotion up from years of being a Barista in service there. His staff are coming along well with training in service excellence and ability to provide nice Barista style coffees. Always friendly staff here, and always polite and courteous to customers, and keep on going on their feet throughout the long day. Despite it often being a coffee place besiged it feels like sometimes, with the great increasing numbers of customers choosing to take drinks and snack foods meals there with them. Yes the branch needs a new look. I think it was likely only the pandemic happening that stopped it from being done. It's well cleaned and hygienic as is though. The staff are very particular in keeping it all cleaned regularly I've seen. It's a nice place to sit in and relax with coffee or hot foods. It's got free wifi. There are good loos. For our town centre area this is saying a lot. I prefer this Costa coffee shop to any other of the plentitude of coffee places around the town. I get hotter foods served to table here than I can in McDonald's in EG for instance. The coffee costs more of course but it's a lot better nicer coffee to sit with and enjoy. There was a recent prove rise in some of the hot drinks. My regular Medium Latte went to three pounds ten pence a cup. I still think it's very good value overall here however. I like the basic hot foods here. There's some good new lines and Christmss seasonal ones. I understand Marks and Spencer are now going to operate some of the foods lines according to the mainstream media. I look forward to trying some of these at my local area Costa coffee in the near future. Thank you hardworking East Grinstead Costa coffee staff in the London Road.

It's definitely not the same place that I go into most days for a nice relaxing coffee, that I'm seeing reviewed here. The pictures here purporting to be my local coffee shop appear not to be either in reality. Staff are really very good in the East Grintead branch of Costa. I prefer the coffee here to other surrounding coffee shops. Food is served piping hot to tables, better than food in say EG McDonald's or Wetherspoons by comparison.

This costa coffee, branch located in East grinstead, West Sussex is fantastic they always make a good atmosphere, while making the coffees and are warm welcoming, They greet people well and customer service is excellent. And all the staff know what they are doing as well as when busy dealing with the queues quickly and efficiently as I have witnessed also the standard they deliver their coffees they go above and beyond. also they always say "have a nice day" and it goes a long way. Friendly staff Great coffee Efficient what more could you want. ☕👍

Traditionally at this time of the year our band plays carols in the village. We decided to do this socially distanced this morning. We decided a hot drink would warms us. I brought 10 different drinks . The young lady who served me was awesome and even gave us a tray to carry it all saying that she would pop over to where were playing to collect it. The whole experience was fantastic and I definitely will go back next weekend. Well done

I visited Costa coffee in East Grinstead in order to meet a friend, arriving before her. The staff were very unhelpful in explaining the App , which was required for my personal details. They also.insisted that my friend gave her details, although only one person’s details are required. They were unhelpful, and made my first cafe experience since early March stressful. However, it was a nice cup of coffee It was just a shame that the staff were not more helpful, or maybe needed further training..

Same old same old sandwiches salads and most of the cakes, need more gluten free etc, more helpful staff.

always a good place for as it down and coffee sometimes the music may be a bit loud to hear yourself and others speak when out with friends but the staff will always turn it down if you ask them.

Coffee and cake was good. The whole place needs a bloody good clean table's were grubby and the walls and mirrors were grim ☹️ the lampshade was full of dust. The glass cabinet was well yucky.

Week on week on week on week I regular visit this Costa and at least once or twice a week they run out of what you would consider to be one of the more run of the mill products for a coffee shop. CREAM. I’m amazed that the CREAM order can’t be increased to fulfill the required needs for this shop as it clearly isn’t presently. Btw. The Costa 3 miles away in Forest Row ( same ownership ) never runs out. And before anyone says, Why don’t you just use that one. I’m not always going in that direction. #justordermore #simples

Did I say the coffee was really good? Oh my gosh amazing! I did not eat food, but I did purchase these amazingly delicious butter biscuit type squares that literally melted in my mouth and went great with the coffee. Staff was super friendly and I was there first thing in the morning waiting for it to open as my hotel did not have decent coffee (I am used to a different time zone and do not usually get up that early!)

We visited this Costa everyday of our trip and the staff were amazing. On our first visit we had our drinks bought to our table as I am in a wheelchair and my carer was pushing me so did not have a free hand to take the drinks too. The drinks were hot and the teacakes were wonderful too.

We usually visit Costa wherever we are visiting. This shop had friendly staff and served the drinks much quicker than our local Costa. Seemed like a nice shop.

Come here lots when shopping in town. Always a good choice of drinks and food on offer here. Something for everyone.

The usual coffee served here as with other branches of the chain.All the service was quick the two staff we saw one of which served us, didn’t seem that happy. They certainly didn’t engage in conversation apart from “Yes” and telling us the total cost of our order. Sadly we didn’t get a thank you despite extending one to the person who served us. Still at least we remained polite and didn’t retaliate as we wouldn’t lower ourselves to do so.We all have off days but portraying that to the customers isn’t a good way to encourage them to come back.

Sadly Costa in East Grinstead High St is an unfortunate configuration and frankly unless you get the seats at the front of the store - it feels like you could be anywhere. Its certainly not the brightest and most engaging environments and is anything but comfortable - def not somewhere to relax and kick back after a quick spin around the town

Stopped on the way to Gatwick, early and the two staff very helpful and chatty considering they had just opened. Not all pastry’s out and when I asked the chap, he went hunting for them, which was nice to see. Coffee great just as I like it in my reusable cup.

I have visited this Costa on several occasions and usually have a good experience. At quiet times, the baristas are polite and get the drinks made quickly. At peak times it (understandably) takes longer to be served, but service is still at a good speed.

Coffee is a fairly simple thing, went here recently the lady was a bit grumpy serving & to me the customer-facing industry there is no excuse for that, your main job is to please the customer. Coffee was ok, probably wouldn't rush back 5/10

Dropped in for a coffee and a cake while I was trying to thaw out! Pleasant service. Quite busy. Lots of choice of coffee.....sizes are huge.

Returned to Costa for a coffee and as usual wasn’t disappointed. Staff very efficient and coffee nice and hot , always a good variety and fresh looking food , however not cheap!

Had a Salted Caramel Cappuccino and was looking forward to it being a Christmas special coffee. Without realising the take away cup was faulty and part of the tip was folded. This meaning when I took a sip the coffee leaked out all down my arm burning my finger in the process. Coffee was nice tasting but would have been better without burning my finger.

We used to come here regularly until a few years ago when we switched allegiance to Caffè Nero round the corner. We’ve come back today because Nero is closed today because of a power cut. Have to say the coffee (we ordered two Americanos as we usually do) was truly awful. It was a struggle to finish our cups. Like drinking poor quality instant coffee. Also no nice slices of cake to eat as used to be the case, just prepacked little pieces. What a deterioration in quality. We won’t be coming back. Very disappointing.

The staff here are very professional and helpful and always go out of their way. I love costa coffee and it is great to pop in anytime.

Ordered drinks and food.. the barista couldn't speak very good English and I had to keep repeating what I wanted. After about 10 minutes we sat to have our drinks, my teapot was filthy with a big crack that was leaking. My husbands coffee had floating grime around the top. Our heated sandwiches were not hot. We ate and drank what we could and left the rest. Really disappointed with the whole visit, this was our first visit and will certainly be our last. The whole cafe needs a deep clean and trained staff!

Nuevo equipo no saben lo que hacen: mal café despacio por personal indiferente en una tienda sucia. Es una pena porque algunas de las personas que solía hacerlo bien aquí trabajan ahora en la sucursal Forest Row, dos kilómetros por la carretera, y hacen un gran trabajo.

Buen lugar para reunirse con amigos y familia para conversar y tomar un café o una porción de tarta sí recomendaría este lugar

since the change off staff it is absoululey disgusting tables are always dirty, never get wiped, the new young staff are so slow scruffy and always touching hair, face and just chat they have no experience on how to approach customers, where is all thee other lovely staff they had.i been coming to this coffee shop twice a week since it opened and i miss christina who was the manager there she kept the shop so clean, and two staff serving on a saturday is appalling, as dirty tables you need to train the new staff how to serve and be quick on serving customers and i had too wait 40 minutes before i got my sandwich. it is quite upsetting to see new staff who dont have a clue and need training on hygeine

I always get a a good size HOT cup of latte whenever I visit Costw , which is all I ask for !! The staff are very friendly and efficient . Majority of time it is always busy but that proves it is a good place to visit . Thank you

Costa, my favourite coffee house was established in East Grinstead a few years ago. While in East Grinstead, any excuse to relish wet latte. Usual standard Costa food, coffee, drinks and service

This costa is very small. Staff should bare in mind that not everyone that visits wants to hear their life stories. The staff make no attempt to even try and talk quietly to one another. I'm not saying don't speak to each other they are just very loud and I find it unprofessional. The last time I was their one of the girls was slagging off another staff member. I hardly go anymore because when I do want to sit down their are hardly any seats as the staff like to close off areas that they have cleaned ready for closing but they do it ridiculous early. The coffee is good depending on who makes it.

Two adults called in for a coffee, which in itself was up to standard. The points machine was not working, so my visit will not have been recorded. When our drinks were served, I asked for some napkins to wipe the messy table - no attempt was made to wipe it for me with a proper cloth. The floor underneath our table was filthy, with crumbs and droppings from the whole day. Not what you would expect when you're paying so much for a beverage. Very disappointing and nothing for Costa to be proud of.

Just popped in while waiting for phone upgrade.Don't usually use the big two (Starbucks/Costa)but this was conveinant.Was surprised,good service and ok coffee and pleasent surroundings.

Took my elderly Mother here for a cuppa. Bearing in mind it was 0935, there was uncleared crockery on tables and it looked like they were understaffed. Very friendly welcome from the counter staff. Teas were of good quality. Stars lost for untidy appearance.

Staff polite and friendly Good choice of coffeee and food. Plenty of room to sit and chat. Its very child friendly also and the toilets ar clean. And has baby changing in toilet as well

love the large cup of coffee you can get normally I would of drunk my coffee, but with there large cups I'm still sipping away .cheese & ham toasties yummy the cake is gorgeous I normally come here often with my teenage son he loves .

Sunday afternoon 17th July, parked up in East Grinstead for a bit of a walk about and decided to have  coffee.Initially we thought that Costa was shut as it was very dark inside, perhaps the glass at the front was tinted or something, as we approached we saw people were sitting inside. From the outside it also very busy and there were no seats available, this was rather deceptive as when we went in the place was much larger than we thought. Inside was long and stretched back quiet away so we had no problems getting a seat.We ordered 2 lattes, £2.55 each, good coffee, friendly staff a bit dark inside.Free WIFI in the shop.

If you want a good cuppa with no frills this is the place. No table service - order pay and wait for your coffee . No frills but well priced and clean

Located in London Road, near to the High Street. This High Street noted for one of the best examples in the country of Tudor Buildings.Has a good selection of cakes and snacks

You can always guarantee good, strong coffee at Costa. The panini's are also good. Each outlet is consistent and reliable.

This Costa is very lovely, I go here very often for both food and drink.The staff are probably some of the nicest staff I have met, very quick service most of the time and I have never been disappointed with my purchase.Only downside is they can often be incredibly over crowded, however that is expected for a small high street coffee shop

Visit Costa East Grinstead frequently. Nicest coffee in East Grinstead as its not bitter like most the local coffee shops serve. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. The shop has recently been redecorated which was much needed. Always enjoy my lunch or even just a coffee here!

The coffee is good and so are the cakes (we especially like the lemon cake and carrot cake), and the serving staff, in particular the Eastern European girls (one of the many bonuses of being in the EU!), are so efficient and friendly. However the layout of the cafe is long and thin, making it seem rather cramped, it generally lacks character and certainly is a less pleasant environment to enjoy one's coffee than the nearby Caffe Nero in East Grinstead High Street.

Dark and grungy. Have switched alligence to cafe Nero up the road - bigger lighter and much better pastries.

The sign on the door was a bit of a giveaway 'staff wanted' and they certainly were. Despite their best efforts, Fraser and Dom the baristas were unable to cope with the demand. I waited fifteen minutes till be served. Paper cups were issued as they had run out of chinaware. Tables were cluttered with empty cups. As a fan of Costa's this visit was disappointing and did little in terms of promoting the brand. Hopefully with the deployment of additional staff the situation can be recovered and normal service resumed.

I love the coffee here, in fact it is pretty much the only coffee I buy out unless abroad. Not so bitter as many coffees.

Typical franchised coffee shop - you know what you're going to get. Food, coffee and hot chocolate pretty good.But atmosphere and service recently variable with staff changes and the shop needs a bit of tender loving care - wall paper peeling and general feeling that a good refurb needed.

Staff always friendly, which is to be be valued. The decor is a bit tatty. But doncha love the COFFEE?
