Costa Coffee in Basildon

We always stop now to have a hot drink and snack on our way back from visiting clients or family because of the later opening hours (7pm!). Lily's a favourite. Good job Coca-Cola. Keep being customer-focused

Always come to Mayflower and this isn’t the first time this has happened. I always ask for skimmed milk and I rarely ever get that and always have to ask them to change it, also the hot chocolate just tastes like warm milk. I noticed that a medium hot chocolate is usually 3 scoops of powder, Katie today added 1/2 scoop. No wonder it tasted like nothing. This needs sorting out.

Went into Costa Coffee & as my friend has a gluten intolerance, I asked the assistant if there was any food that was gluten-free. The assistant didn't even appear to know what gluten-free products were & promptly started looking through all the sandwiches. She then passed my friend a sandwich, which was vegetarian & said that it was gluten-free, which when examined by my friend wasn't. Given the awful tragedy involving a young girl recently, you would've thought that the allergen training in Costa would've been ramped up. My 2nd point is why is there no gluten-free products available in Costa Coffee in this day & age?? I have emailed my concerns about this visit to Head Office.

The Costa at Mayflower Retai Park is well run, clean and the staff are friendly and professional. However, since the refit just a few weeks ago, it would appear that those in charge at HQ have very little knowledge or understanding of spatial awareness. The lack of understanding of phycology human behaviour and habitat is head scratching to say the least.... An extension of servicing space and reduction of seating within a drinking and eating eviroment is bamboozling. It's well known that the impact of objective space, and body positioning within small spaces impacts behaviour. However, Costa....Good luck. Very little privacy on site if it's busy, especially with young children....and they have a right to be there..... Costa HQ.....your HR department would be called into question....

Staff are always so helpful and polite as soon as you walk in the door there welcoming you and big smiles always. Everyone knows what they are doing and you can tell that the team really know how to work together! Very spacious inside and outside, tables are always cleaned quickly and efficiently! Will always be coming back here ☺️

A large Costa with an extensive range. Bit of a queue this morning but staff were clearly working hard to deal with it. Plenty of seating, both indoors and there are many tables outdoors on a terrace which is nice as it separates you from the road and the retail park. Retail park has a massive car park, sometimes hard to find a space close to Costa.

Lilly and her staff at mayflower costas are the best there is. Because this costas is so good I go there, fortunately someone else thought the same...now this beautiful lady and I are happily together...so thank you Lilly and all your staff as I'm now in the best place I've ever been. In love at costas mayflower.

Costa coffee is my favourite place to get coffee as they offer a good tasting coconut milk alternative. Some are very hit and miss with their service but Mayflower Retail Park in Basildon offers the absolute best service without exception. They are always friendly and fast and it’s always a pleasure to go in there (even when busy)

Visited Saturday 17th Feb 2024. The most abrupt rudest cashier, I asked what was gluten free told nothing I said in the whole shop nothing she said yes, I then asked the lady making coffee who then directed me to front cakes on counter and explained cashier said nothing. It wasn’t what she said but how she said it didn’t listen very rude not inviting into cafe so so rude and sharp, I shall be going back to my favourite more polite place greggs which is across the road goodbye you don’t deserve my hard earned cash anymore that was your last chance.

Not one of the best costas but I mean they all serve the same don't they - finding it more exspensive lately and Starbucks still takes the lead for me but friendly staff here and good parking

Good coffee, excellent customer service as always. This Costa is probably best 👌 I go to daily, staff are very professional and nothing is to much for them surely a great manager to built such a team. 👍

Terrible experience today, bought 3 coffees, 2 cakes, 2 carton drinks and 2 sausage baps £25 roughly. Then asked for tomato sauce for the kids (they love it) I was then only allowed 2 sashays ! Lily the manger who I’ve seen in numerous branches said I don’t make the rules in an abrupt manor and was very rude. My kids were upset ages 3 &5 so this is the last time I use Costa ! I normally go at least 6 days a week ! Very disappointing

The manager was very rude and abrupt. I only asked if my cappuccino was dry and she went on to tell me how she has 13 years experience and knows how to make a dry cappuccino.

whilst going to Costa for a nice catch up with with a friend, we was in shock to have witnessed such unprofessional behaviour towards a young member of staff by her manager who goes by the name lily, I looked out for this bullies name as I couldn’t believe the way she was treating this young staff member in front of other members of staff and customers. This young staff member was well presented, kind and well mannered, whilst this lily came across rude abrupt disrespectful and showed nothing but intimidating behaviour towards her, making sly remarks at everything she did. How could you treat any person like that and in a public place? A young girl who was clearly learning on a job being put down for everything and could clearly see the upset and knock of confidence ! I’m sure there have been plenty of others who have witnessed the unprofessionalism as this was not done discreetly, so please always report and stand up to bullying!

It’s not often that I feel the need to write a review but wow… this Costa coffee branch warranted one! The coffee was fine, the food was fine and the majority of staff were fine. The manager … a nasty, horrible individual called Lily I believe. My friend and I meet regularly here and whilst we have noticed and commented upon the managers rude and abrupt manner before, we were shocked today to witness blatant bullying of this managers staff team! There was a young girl with long hair who seemed to bear the brunt of this woman’s anger. The girl was polite and pleasant to everyone we saw her engage with including us but her manager seemed to direct lots of inappropriate snipes at her. The girl looked visibly distressed at one point and even a customer on another table commented on the unprofessional way she was being treated. Whilst the coffee was average, the service was distinctly unpleasant and the manager puts me off ever returning! Awful.

My manager ordered drinks through Uber. One of the drinks was incorrect. She is diabetic and therefore when her latte tasted of vanilla, she couldn’t drink it. The telephone number to the Mayflower store in Basildon does not work, nor can we reach head office. I drove to the store and asked to speak to the manager. Her name is Lillie. Explained to her that the order is incorrect and I have had to drive there as cannot speak to anyone as cannot get through on the phone and she just lost it, in front of the whole store. ‘We are only human, we make mistakes, take it up with Uber’. I told her, it’s not Ubers fault but her team for not checking. And I’m sure if she was in my shoes she would be upset. She then said ‘well, do you want to kill me!’ Seriously what a response. Even the customer next to me said ‘are you alright’. Firstly Lillie, you should be ashamed of yourself, conducting yourself in front of colleagues and customers in this way. A bit extreme I told her. I just took the new drink and walked out. I think the trip advisor members will make up their own mind and for Costa head office, you need to train your staff on quality customer service. What an absolute disgrace

We stopped here for a coffee break on a Sunday morning in July 2023, the service was ok but def no more than that ! …. Free tables were left still dirty & needed clearing & cleaning, and. Although we appreciate these places get busy but the staff were clearly no interested in clearing & cleaning the tables, and although we did ask a member of staff (with blonde hair) To help, she walked away and greeted her family/friends and was chatting to them whilst everything was left dirty, this “post Covid” most definitely is not the best of attitudes to have In what should be their best interest in keeping things cleaned and clear ! After waiting for a while another member of staff then came and cleared & cleaned it for us. So, shall we be returning, most definitely not with that attitude. I was very disappointed to be served an old croissant which is undoubtedly a left over from the night before. This is very shameful to find it in well known brand like Costa. What makes me even more disappointed as this is the second time this happened in Costa coffees. Previously I used to rate Costa as my first option to go to but not anymore.

As someone with a food allergy hygiene is crucial as are good standards. This store doesn’t follow them at all, not in any shape or form. If you raise it with a staff member you get a pretty poor response like you are an inconvenience. You may have your hygiene rating but you don’t follow the code of practice. Poor staff. Poor standards. Avoid!

Bought ham and cheese toasties, ham fell out while preparing the toasties, Lattes were poorly made and watered down. Complete lack of effort made, improvements required.

I've been here many times but on Sunday 23rd Feb I must say I was very impressed with Ellie. Watching her whilst in the queue she was very hard working, very fast and very efficient. A credit to the company

Staff very helpful , clean area tables clean . tToliets clean disabled too.. staff very friendly . light and spacious . brought food and drinks to tables for everyone , also fast for drinnks to go . plenty of staff to customers food very nice as coffee excellent choice outside seating area . with brolleys accessible from A127 EITHER LONDON BOUND OR SOUTHEND BOUND

Is this the worst costa coffee in the uk - YES! To be honest I haven't visited all Costa's coffee shops, but I can't believe there could be a worse one for customer service or should I say disservice. Visited during the week just after 5pm and although the advertised closing time is 6pm the staff were clearly not pleased to see us. Although we were drinking in we had our drinks served in takeaway cups, no doubt to save on the washing up. Shame this time wasn't spent cleaning the tables! The member of staff clearly showed her annonance in her surly manner and attitude. Honestly just walk on by and go to the Greggs which has just opened a few feet away and offers courteous service together with a much better range of tasty treats. And they will also provide a refreshing cup of your favourite coffee - IN A CUP

Had a dreadful experience with this branch in 2014 and didn't return. However, received a buy-one-get-one-free voucher and thought it was a good excuse to give them another chance. What a mistake! Visited at 5pm when it was fairly quite - only two tables occupied and no one queuing and asked for a latte and a small americano with my voucher. The surly dark-haired assistant immediately said 'that voucher is only for a small one' - yes that's fine, it's what I requested. She then proceeded to talk to a man at the end of the counter while preparing our drinks which she served to us in take-away cups even though we were eating in - we had already taken some napkins to clean a table! We stayed for half an hour during which time she continued to talk to what I can only assume was her boyfriend interrupted to serve that occasional customer - but always with her attention on the boyfriend. While this was going on a blond haired assistant was busy cleaning and tidying so at least someone was working for their wages! As we were preparing to leave a woman with a child entered and she was asking the child what she would like. The dark-haired assistant snapped abruptly 'you have two minutes cos we're closing' even though the opening hours on the door suggested that they should be open for about another hour. I had two vouchers. I have thrown the other one in the bin - they couldn't pay me to return!

Been in here few times, one of few open 7am. Staff always pleasant but stopped having food, always burnt.

Called in as we usually do here when going up the A127.... about 1pm not usual staff ?? Two lattes sat down took a sip and burnt the end of my tongue ! So hot you couldn’t drink them didn’t expect that !Took them back up to the counter and man who had made them ... (I won’t say barista as they wouldn’t have been made that hot if he was an expert ! ) he just looked at me when I explained he just said yeah ! He made two more but not a word of sorry no apologies .. not good customer service ..the second two were perfect .

In the snow on a Sunday brill hot food, hot snacks served after all the other cafes had shut early and wall to wall smiling staff. Good wheelchair access with ramps and parking v close. Like an alpine retreat facing the A127. Vastly improved

Quick drink stop. Ordered a large caramel latte and a black forest hot chocolate. Lovely drinks and speedy service.

Had the chicken wings and the mac and cheese balls which were so delicious. I could see that Vicky was very very busy with lots of tables, but it was never too much for her to be attentive to us. I would highly recommend this restaurant, as the staff and bar staff are very very welcoming and Vicky to serve you. I am never one to write reviews but I had such a lovely time here I just had to.

Not just my favourite but the only coffee shop that I stop at before I go to my office.

Prefer the star bucks in the next but this is ok I suppose. The service nice, the toilets clean, as it's the seating areas. Nothing to really fault on this place. Personal preference of course

I went for a coffee as I do usually on a Saturday morning - there was a 10 minute wait & when I got to My turn Chantelle the server told me costa coffee did not except £50 notes unless you spend over £30 its Costa Coffee is new policy - i've never heard of this before - so I asked Chantelle the server to email me a copy of the terms and conditions as she told me she would but it would takes seven days - Chantelle n had a bad attitude she look like she was having a bad day - so I'll just have to wait the seven days to see if they email me a copy of the terms and conditions which I don't think I will receive

Costas, Aylesford - friendly staff, lovely coolers and their Americans. A very busy place, but nice atmosphere and funky seating.

Very well presented Costa.the staff are very professional and kind. Went there this morning with a group of 35 people.they served us very quick and the quality of the coffee was really good.

Met a friend here to swap Christmas presents. Have always found this branch to be good. We just wanted a nice coffee and a cake and this is what we got. Staff were efficient, polite and friendly. They were all busy but all seemed to know what they were doing. No problems as mentioned in other reviews. A very pleasant meet for my friend and I. Well done to the staff.

Easy and free to park and saves travelling into Basildon to enjoy your favourite coffee. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Food here is so much better than Starbucks nearby. Outside area as well for those sunny Basildon days!

Costa is a global brand, so why don't they train staff at this branch. Middle aged lady serving with trainee badge on. Ordered Mocha and a Sicilian Muffin. Yes, dear that is the Lemon one, which she forgot in-between , tutting and head shaking at the till. Clearly she did not know how it work and was largely ignored by another staff member who was chatting. My total bill was 9.05, I handed her a 50 pound note and she gave me the correct change, eventually.Up pipes the woman who has been chatting, "we don't take 50 pounds note", pronounced " parnds" . I am not sure who the policy maker is on that decision, then she went on to say it is ok if I spent 25 pounds or more? I had lost the will to live by then and gave her a 10 pounds not after getting back my 50 pounds not and returning the change she had previously given to me. The queue was a mixture of amused, bemused and frustrated. I have not been to this place before and shall never again.

Most Costas have a cheery vibrant atmosphere. Not this one. Surly staff, barista's audible cussing at the milk steamer machine for burning her hand. Echoey interior, less than pleasant views of the delights of Basildon town centre through a goldfish bowl window arrangement. Will save my money next time. Coffee wasn't bad though!

Often visit at weekend, service and coffees always ok, nothing special to report, but no complaints either, always plenty of snacks etc

Popped into this Costa at Town Square yesterday. Given coffee with no serviettes and had trouble finding a clean table, although the Cafe was not busy. What a pity it spoilt a relaxing few minutes.

Very much in the Costa mode but none the worse for that. Good experience pleasant staff no problems. Recommended for every day use when the coffee cup calls

I am not a shopper so generally end up here while my wife shops. I generally go for a cake and cappicinno and the standard is as good as any Costas I have visited. Wish it stayed open later though

The staff at this branch are rude, surly and inefficient. They served the cappuccino without any chocolate powder on top and when I took it back and very politely asked if I could have some a very rude woman tossed some on, slammed the pot back on the counter and turned her back on me without so much as a please or a thank you! The tables were dirty even though it wasn't busy (I now know why!) and when we did eventually find one that had been given what can only be described as a 'lick and a promise' we found that it was still sticky. Along with the crumbs and half eaten leftovers and packets on the floor I can only discribe the whole place as grubby which is shocking considering this is a new branch. I left feedback on the company website but never received a reply so it seems that Costa management are content with this performance! There is a very pleasant Starbucks in a branch of Next a couple of shops along from this where the staff, produce and environment are excellent - I suggest people try there instead.
