Costa Coffee in Cardiff

Friday 20th October and we visited this Branch of Costa in the heart of Cardiff. Was not really sure of the address, so it is the Branch that overlooks the Old Library Building and Tourist Information Centre. One of us went up to the counter to order two flat whites, while the other went to find somewhere to sit. There were a number of tables with vacant seats, however, the tables had not been cleared since the previous customer left it. Eventually found a seat and sorted out the table so we could sit Some of the tables looked as they needed to be revarnished as their surfaces had been cleaned so often that the original varnish had been washed away back to the wood. We sat in the window with our coffees and watched the world scurry past outside along the street in the drizzling rain. It was a good cup of flavoursome coffee.

lovely coffee I like the app too, it will give you some freebies from time to time, and collect beans in which you can claim a free coffee when you have enough, staff are friendly and welcoming and have a good sense of knowlege

The usual Costa shop, good selection of snacks, cakes and drinks, fairly tidy, friendly staff. Nice and handy for the mall.

I often sit outside with my coffee and on seeing it had reopened its indoor seating thought it would be nice to sit inside(as outside seating till closed off) what a mistake!!! I know.cleaning and safety measures need to take place but the over kill here felt very sinister. I watched a frantic woman constantly scrubbing the same table and doorway and floor over and over again. She looked as if she was having a nef ous breakdown. Cleaning the same area again and again although no one had walked there since the last time she cleaned there is a fine line between keeping staff and ustomefs safe and lmaking customers feeling frightened. I for one will never go back

Had a long wait for poor coffee in an dirty class,and served by rude unwilling staff. Say no more! Sadly then got over charged for the privilege which is simple unacceptable.

Visited today with my three children. One of which is autistic. Very busy but it didn’t bother me as there were seats available outside. What I was most upset about was the staff screaming and shouting at customers. I’ve never been spoken to in that manner. Maybe if the staff all stopped screaming and shouting at the customers then the members of staff will be able to hear the customers orders properly without getting orders wrong. I asked for a medium coffee and was given a small. Female member of staff snatched the coffee back quite rudely, and insisted on me having a medium. The shouting was so bad I had to put my hands over my ears. I felt extremely anxious to the point I felt dizzy, lightheaded and my ears were ringing. An awful experience to which spoilt my afternoon out with my children. I won’t be returning to this branch. I’ve been coming to this coffee shop for years but it’s put me right off. I think staff could do with a brush up on customer service training, if your going to be rude to the customers then your in the wrong job, it was a disgrace.

Usually costa coffee shop, coffee, snacks and cakes. Nice an clean shop, friendly staff, good, quick service. Seating inside & outside in the shopping centre. Well worth a visit.

Stayed outside the city but wanted to get in early. Decided to visit Costa for a coffee and light breakfast. Service was exceptionally friendly staff were great. Thank you

Exactly as you would expect for costa round the corner from hotel which charged £13 for breakfast so well worth a visit.

4 adults, 1 teenager. All ordered coffee and food. Adults were served with everything in a timely manner and teenager was asked to wait for his cold brew coffee. And he waited. And he waited. (At the edge of the counter) He was obviously invisible. Mother had to go and interfere. Cold brew served immediately. Don’t even get me started on the disgusting toasted(only one side) sandwiches!!!

not a lot to say really ...Costa Costa is one of my main stops wherever i am as after none stop shopping for four hours i needed a caffeine shot asap. First time to Cardiff shopping and was happy to let the wife shoot off doing the rounds in the shops while i helped myself to another cup of coffee and a bit of wifi. good to see door code system for the toilets as saves the constant stream of people coming in off the street barging their way past you ( or maybe thats just me being unfair) ..anyway as i said its coffee and thats all i need :-) rtegards

We came in for a coffee and sit down. Good quality americano and nice establishment. Good service, coffee made promptly.

What does it cost to hear a please or thank you ? Ignorant staff that need customer service training asap . Used to be the first rule of customer service- greet your customer and be friendly, obviously that been replaced with - ignore your customer, dont speak to them and just throw their receipt on the counter! IT COSTS NOTHING TO BE POLITE CARDIFF GRAND ARCADE , VALUE YOUR CUSTOMERS, if i was the manager there I wouldnt be happy . Plenty of other costa to use in Cardiff, I certainly wont be returning to this one

Usual high standard, and very clean brand name coffee shop, one of a number in Cardiff city centre. This is well managed, and able to meet a high demand. Good sandwiches and pastries, compliment even better coffees. Seating adequate for such a busy branch.

Thought I should try it at least once. Difficult to write a review. Costa is what Costa is. I'm more of an Olde tea shopee person.

Nice Costa. Quick service, clean and pleasant baristas. Good coffee. Some seating outside but obviously still in side the mall / arcade. Probably the best Costa in the city centre and very convinient for the shopping.

Went here before a concert at SDH Had a chocolate with marshmallows and flakes. Asked for extra hot as its never hot enough for me. Usual fare available. Used the loo, its just one with disabled access, there was no soap.

Needed a drink and pastry to start the day and Costa fit the bill. A nice variety of pastries and hot beverages for everyone.

Visited this establishment yesterday and as I got to my table, checked my change and found that I was exactly £2 short!

Había dos personas que sirve cuando llegamos con sólo dos personas delante de nosotros. El servicio era muy lento. Pedí un café, un café con leche y unas galletas de jengibre. El café llegaron primero, hubo dos intentos en un café con leche antes de abortado fue lugar de la bandeja de momento en el que el café estaba casi frío. El café latte tenía tan poco en lo que parecía una leche ligeramente coloreado y encima de eso fue apenas tibia. Con respecto a las galletas, sin duda no podría probar cualquier jengibre. Teniendo en cuenta la cantidad de tiempo que tuvimos que esperar en lo que fue una distancia bastante corta cola, decidimos no puedo quejarme ya que era más fácil caminar y nunca volver.

Stopped here for breakfast. The food was good. As was the coffee and the service.It can get busy in the morning, but worth a stop.

Came her for breakfast and disappointed by the state of the toilets. Both toilets clearly had not been cleaned for some time which is disappointed when you have children.

I had a hot chocolate in here and it is one of the best that I have ever tasted so go in and try one and see

Popped in to Costa whilst shopping and soon relaxed with a wonderful latte and cappachino. The flapjack was melt in the mouth and an oaty Nutella biscuit incredible ! This Costa is small but has outside seating and welcomes families with its 'family friendly '...

Friendly staff great coffee and a nice selection of treats even though the site was busy the staff were very efficient in making sure tables were cleared promptly for new patrons.

Me trató a un café con leche de soja, pero ojalá me enjambre no haber molestado. Demasiado jarabe así mi café estaba frío y, presumiblemente porque no tiene crema, no tuve el enjambre de chocolate en la parte superior, donde salpicaduras por otras Costas les puso en el platillo. Desagradable y lejos de un capricho.

Was just in Cardiff for the weekend and had the pleasure to come to this Costa. Costa isn't my favourite coffee establishment but this location had great service, a vibrant atmosphere, and lovely staff. Would highly reccomend.

I go to Costa 9 times out of 10 when out shopping and have stopped in this outlet before and was pleased with the service etc. However, on this trip the staff seemed uninterested in what my order was, and decided that talking between themselves was more important. The display of cakes and other food had flies landing on them and I declined anything to eat and told the staff member why, then took my coffee and sat down and watched if anything was going to be done, but nothing happened, and when I left 15 minutes later I decided that I would not frequent this place again.

Just made it in here before they closed for the evening; surprised that they close as early as they do on a Friday night. In any case, got a couple of snacks, got the toasted, and was out just before the doors were closed.

Great staff and girl who was serving me was friendly and efficient - went in for coffee and crumpets for breakfast - unfortunately no crumpets so then chose toast - then there was no butter so ended up with a croissant !

Great service. This is chain of coffee places, this one situated near Cardiff indoor market. The staff here provide a friendly and polite service, ok it's not as quick as other branches i've been to (but i guess on this occasion it was down to a new staff member being trained). Overall, i was impressed.

I like this particular branch because of location in queens pedestrian freindly arcade street ... has great views close approximatey to university and everything around u.... seating is comfortable and plenty of electric outlets which makes it convient to sit back and do good work and writing and have proper coffee

Friend had lovely milky coffee while I had tea and a slice of carrot cake that was very fresh and delicious. Service was quick and staff were friendly,very busy but took time to get correct order. We sat in the Arcade and enjoyed a pleasant stay. Thank you Costa, we will be back..

Great service and part of a national chain, even so the staff here provide a fantastic service. Would definitely recommend this Costa Cafe.

A lovely Costa with great service. Enjoyed a large white hot chocolate, which was simply gorgeous. The rest of the family enjoyed normal hot chocolate. A great place to stop for a break while Christmas shopping.

Having already eaten and had coffee, my daughter and I went to use thectoiets. The walls, bins and toilet seats were covered in little flies! The disabled toilet had excrement on the floor and wall.I found a member of staff in the stock room, directly opposite the toilets (yuk!) and told her about the state of the toilets, also pointing out the flies which were also on the walls outside the stock room .... She said "it's because the air conditioning isn't working!" .... I pointed out it was December and not normal to find flies this time of year .... I also said it was worrying to find the amount of flies that were present in an area serving food. The staff member smirked and closed the door in my face! Very worrying .... There is no concern about hygiene as far as I could see .. The place seems to be run by school students/youngsters who blatantly have no clue about food hygiene or keeping food areas clean. I intend contacting their customer complaints department before the health inspectors visit.

After the pictures, with time to kill a great coffee was on the cards. Sadly the staff were part way through serving a friend of theirs and it took time to be served. I generally have my coffee in a paper cup as the costa cups are too thick for my liking, however, the coffee was weak and insipid from what I normally get, so not a good experience.

well what can one say about a coffee chain Brand. Well they can vary enormously depending on its management and discipline of Staff. My daughter uses this one as she works near by so it must be Good. It was. very clean, good staff always on the ball with a friendly chat. Coffee and cake products very good representative of its high standard. Many thanks from a Cappo Addic.

Even at 10 30 am the toilets in the St David's Costa had clearly not been cleaned from the day before and were filthy

Really nice little Costa, great staff, very helpful. Nice choice of food and the usual great Costa coffee. Only down side was one toilet and the place was jammed full of rugby fans...me being one.

The staff in this Costa café did themselves proud yesterday with so many fans arriving in the City for the rugby but they served cheerfully and efficiently against all the odds. A welcome sit down for us and a reliably good cup of coffee and hot Panini to keep us going for the match. Well done.

We had breakfast here on a very busy Friday morning in august. The staff were run off their feet but kept smiling and delivered a good service. Well done. We ordered porridge, toasted teacakes and toasted sandwiches. It all came piping hot, just minutes after we had got our drinks and sat down. Brilliant. There were plenty of seats available and tables were cleared quite quickly.

Was made to wait in line for 20 minutes when I said I was only purchasing a bottled drink from the fridge, but was made to wait for 3 breakfasts and drinks to be made whilst she could have quickly put my order through the till. She was purposely being lazy and slow, and answered the phone and had a conversation for 2 mins whilst working in front of the customers. also, my friend was declined student discount when we have recently been emailed to let us know they accept it here now, and was charged for the wrong drink at an extra price. Wasn't even served, had to ask for the attention of her 3 times then had to over pay and leave money on the side for the drink.

Genuinely believe that customer service costs everything. In every costa I go to the staff are more than happy to make me a half and half coffee to try get that semi-skimmed flavour rather than creamy whole milk or flavourless skimmed milk. In fact, Costa staff recommended I do this so I would keep coming back. This store said no, and that they (assuming costa?) don't do them anymore. I don't believe them and my skinny cappuccino was really just a milky coffee... So I guess costa might be at the point where it is complacent and its staff don't care. If I want a crap cup of coffee, I'll make it myself and stay at home and won't get the unnecessary attitude that seemed to come as extra with my order. Goodbye costa, it was a good decade.

This Costas was good for service and food, but somehow had the feel of the ones at motorway services rather than usual comfort that Costas can have.

Standard Costa, but with exceptional wait staff. My barrista, Elli, was lovely! They even gave me a free cake to make my day, which was very appreciated. Good clean establishment, and good coffee

The restaurant was clean and the coffee was good I had a latte as did my friend our partners had cappuccinos also I can,t go into costa's without having their lemon tart which never disappoints.

Visited for breakfast twice in the morning and have drawn a conclusion that the restaurant is not cleaned which worries me that the milk areas on the coffee machines are equally not cleaned. Floors were filthy for first thing in the morning. Crumbs and cake bits remaining from either being sloppy stocking up for the morning or not cleaned from the day before. I suspect the later. Staff were friendly and amiable, service was swift but the whole restaurant in the morning in the winter is uncomfortable to sit in because of the direct sunlight and no blinds. Blinds needed.

Costa serves a nice cup of coffee and specialty drinks. Excellent baked goods are a nice to nosh on as you watch the people go by. Service is friendly, very typical of Cardiff.

Called in with my family while shopping, nice clean place nice coffees and a massive selection of cakes.Quick service and polite staff, best latte I've had in a while.

Called in for our mid morning shopping break. Although quite busy the tables were quickly cleared and cleaned. The standard of service and the quality of coffee was up to the usual high standard.

I also had issues at finding the right Costa, There are about four in Cardiff, I visited them all in in my search for colleagues. Quite why there is confusion I don't know, even the staff don't know where they all are.Anyway when I found my colleagues it was very good as you would expect for a Costa !

Miłe i czyste miejsce, w sam raz na spotkania z przyjaciółmi. Kawa aromatyczna i bardzo smaczna. Mimo iż personel uwijał się za barem, czas oczekiwania na kawę był nieco długi. Na szczęście smak kawy wynagrodził wszystko :)

I was very pleased with the Costa we visited at the services. Very fast service, despite the long line of people waiting. (I went here as opposed to the place across the way, which had an even longer line!) Latte and tea were hot and fresh. They had snacks and sandwiches, too. Very clean area, it looks like they are on top of keeping things in good order.

Very slow service in this costa in Cardiff on Friday 2nd January 2015, my friend and I both had De-caff tea, okay. What i don't get is why the Bathroom facility on the ground floor is for disabled, women, and men, why is that.... think there should be 3, 1 for disabled and one each for the different sexes...

Lovely coffee, with very nice welcoming staff and very quick service on a very busy day. Clean tables too.

The coffee shop looked welcoming. The staff were friendly and the food was good. The wait to be served was a little long. While I was there it seemed to be the same for other customers as they arrived.

this outlet is in the saint david center very clean and tidy nice coffee very helpful staff cake is over priced thou .

I like Costa as it is the best coffee taste and I have always found the staff very pleasant and helpful.

Judge for yourself. Waited for an interminable time even though only two people in front of me. Asked to eat/drink inside and got takeaway and they didn't even give me the food I had paid for. No access to internet either unless you had a room number. I just wanted to use my internet provider but was unable. Appalling in my view!

Yesterday I gave a good review for the COSTA COFFEE SHOP AT 2 ST DAVID'S WAY/WORKING STREET, CARDIFF. However, Tripadvisor has said that this review was for the Bagel Coffee Shop at St David's Centre. I have never been in the Bagel Coffee Shop. Tripadvisor gave the wrong name and wrong address for this review.

I don't now how is possible to do a worst cappuccino. They have to taste a real one. Also the coffee machine was so dirty. To make a good coffee that machine MUST be clean an well maintained.

It was the perfect to unwind and reflect on the events of the last two hours spent inside the millenium stadium. The staff should be commended for the way the shop is run,Very friendly indeed and I will be going back there.chris ball 07858 762922

Food was fairly good as usual, enjoyed the winter specials, but was let down badly by the filth in the toilet: urine stained seat, hairs, smell, no soap in the dispenser, really unpleasant. There was a girl cleaning the disabled toilet as I passed: perhaps the other loo was next, but to allow it to get so bad before cleaning it: unforgivable. If you're too busy, get more staff.

I dont really care whether to have a takeaway coffee from Costa or Starbucks. However I must admit that Costa Christmas theme and design outperforms such from Starbucks by a mile. Really nice selection of drinks, pastries and great interior decorations.

Popped in late morning before the lunchtime rush. Only 4 people in the queue ahead of me. Friendly welcome, efficient service and great tasting product (chai tea latte with soy) – clean environment. The staff were constantly busy either serving customers, cleaning up, topping up the pots of marshmallows / chocolate or making drinks. They must sleep well at night!

Excellent service and relaxing atmosphere .coffee the best, my niece had a special cold drink(one of their own specials) we also had a scone each which were light and very tasty, one of the nicest I have eaten in a while)
