Costa Coffee in Gwynedd

Went in for coffee , intending to sit outside, my dog was waiting outside, someone opened the door so my dog came in , lady behind the counter was so rude , the dog was in there for one minute, no big deal , yes I know only guide dogs but her response was well out of proportion, there’s a way of saying things in a polite manner , maybe staff need customer service training, I read other reviews, seems to be a pattern of rude behaviour, is it the same person I suspect so , maybe manager should address this ? Anyway doubt I will go again , also her comprehension of English wasn’t very good , I had to repeat my order several times

Very disappointed will never go here again. My wife and I, I’m 75 my wife 69. We queued for about 10 minutes, we noticed a few tables were available. Part of the caffe was cordoned off , leaving seating limited. I noticed people coming in and taking the available tables ( behind us in the queue ) When we were about to order we were asked if we had a table. My answer was no, then we were told sorry we can’t serve you. The chap behind ordered because his partner had chose to jump the queue and sit at one of the available tables. We were told to go away even though there were lots of seating behind the cordoning. Do I have to change my principals and force my way through the queue. I’d like to think that I’m a Gentleman and would never do this. My Costa in my home town of Buxton would never allow this to happen.

A good Costa branch. It was not as busy at 4.15 as it usually is and so there were a few places to sit. Staff were helpful and the place was clean. We stayed until closing time and staff kept busy and worked around us. Good choice of food and drinks as always.

Good Service, Great Coffee - always room to sit even on a crowded summer August day in Porthmadog! Rest those weary feet.

Came around 12 on 26th September and the staff member was so rude. Told me there was no maple syrup. When asked what syrups they did have she turned and said the “usual ones”. No thank you or smile. Service is terrible.

Good situation towards the bottom of the high street. Ideal for a takeaway if you are going on one of the train trips.

We are regular Costa customers and called here Saturday morning 25th June 2022. Service was very slow and it wasnt busy. The coffee wasnt nice at all and was spilt by the barista into the saucer without a sorry or a serviette to mop it up. the big rock cafe is a lot better placeWould not go again in the week we were in the area,

Walked into costa today, as me and my friends do most days, and we ordered what we usually do, that being a Salted Caramel Frappé, I ordered a medium and my friends ordered a medium and a small. Other medium came first, then the small, but the third didn’t come. We continued to wait for a further 3 or 4 minutes until a member of staff asked if we were waiting for anything else? We said yes and the other staff member who took our order turned away and made another customers coffee whilst we explained to the lovely lady that we ordered a >medium< Frappé but it hadn’t come, the lady then told the other staff member (not the one who took our order) to make it and we waited and… a small one came, we then told the lady that we ordered a medium one and she then looked at the receipt and it said ‘small’, even though we had the change to prove that we paid £4.25 for a medium and not £3.90 for a small as we had paid with a ten pound note for that Frappé, she then continued to throw the small Frappé, that wasn’t what we ordered into the bin. The other lady then proceeded to make a medium Frappé for me and put it down in front of us and didn’t even apologise as though we were in the wrong. And not to seem rude but as if we’d lie about ordering a medium!? It’s our order so I’m sure that we’d know what we ordered as we’ve ordered what we want!! How silly.

When we are arrived, I watched the server take time doing her "jobs" and then she abruptly announced we would have to wait. We did and then I ordered. We all have disabilities, one with a stick so we sat down. I went around the corner to check the drinks were ready -they weren't so, I sat back down. The server came around the counter and barked you need to come get your drinks so, I went to the counter and they weren't ready yet. myself and daughter waited and got drinks and went back to sit down. I was therefore riled when the same server came around the corner smiling to deliver a tray of drinks to the table behind us! The next issue was the lack of understanding of how soya milk froth acts differently to cow milk froth in that if you are not understanding of that, you give someone a drink that is a third air. Which usually I would be happy to ask for more milk but, after the negative impression I already had and my fatigue I couldn't be bothered so had less to drink for the same price. As a small plus_My dyspraxic daughter spilt her drink and we couldn't locate serviettes (we were not given any) so asked a different staff member about them who happily brought some over.

Wonderfully friendly staff, very quick service, intuitive and efficient. Great tasting coffee, perfect set up for the day ahead!! Very happy

The staff were efficient in making me a flat white to go. However I realised that they had filled the take out coffee cup up to the top with milk so it was more like a latte. The coffee did not have the usual depth of coffee and lovely smoothness of flavour that I am use to with Costa and it was difficult to taste the flavour of coffee at all. I went back into the shop and asked whether they could make me another thinking it was too much milk that has spoilt the flavour. I asked for another flat white but only half fill the cup with milk. Once again there was very little flavour to the coffee! I spoke to the manager and said kindly that the flavour was not right and it tasted very weak with no depth and could she test out the coffee for herself so that she could rectify the problem. She was not rude but she was not friendly under this constructive discussion and simply said she had tasted the coffee that morning and there was nothing wrong with it!! I asked for a refund and left! I will not be having a coffee in Costa Partmadog again! This week I went to Costa in Skipton North Yorkshire and their coffee was fabulous! How come there is such a variance in coffee when I presume the beans come from the same supplier?

Usual good Costa coffee - staff working under difficult conditions to keep people safe. Clearly, this wasn't welcomed by same.

Didn’t get a coffee as was barked at 3 times by the hideously over the top staff - wait outside as only 2 people allowed in at any one time but when you try to enter after somebody has left wait outside !!! Awful awful awful

All the drinks you'd expect at this chain, but sadly they had no bacon or sausage rolls when I popped in for a takeaway at breakfast time. To be fair, it was just after the bank holiday weekend, and it's comforting to see busy businesses in the hospitality sector. Staff were proactive with collecting the track and trace details for customers who were eating in, which is reassuring in these weird times.

Tried to enter costa to collect the click+ collect order i just made. Was barked at by the man behind the counter to wait outside, so i did for about 10 long minutes while the 2 people being served at a snails pace were done. Finally got in and found that my order was sitting waiting to be collected the entire time and I should have just told them that was what i wanted - maybe I would have if i wasnt barked at. Ugh!

I didn’t visit this costa, but had an encounter with the lady who locked up the business on 26/05/21. We enquired about any taxi ranks due to us holidaying in the area, and she gave us information about taxis stopping at the side of the high street. But then, 5 minutes later she drove past us, stopped and offered us a lift. We weren’t even customers but this is the genuine kindness you don’t see much of anymore. Such a lovely lady! Thank you.

Terrible. Sitting outside for coffee, its not enough to scan the government NHS QR code, you have to scan the Costa one. That didn't work, so onto Costa website, that's no good either. Ended up with staff outside taking all my details, had to produce my driving licence as well. Thought at one stage I was going to be asked for a sample of my DNA. I know they have and we all have to be careful but jeez, too much hassle for a coffee. Others turned up and walked away due to the attitude of the staff, can't blame them either. Better off down the road at The Port. AVOID!!!!!.

While on holiday, we thought we'd have lunch at Costa in Porthmadog. Seeing an empty table, I asked the member of staff who was just standing outside, if it would be ok to sit at the table as there was no queue. "No!", she snapped, "I haven't sanitised it yet"; but made no move to do so. She then yelled that we "would have to go inside first anyway"! "But, before doing that, you need to scan the code", which I proceeded to do, but before we could fill in the form, she snarled that she would need to see ID for verification. I took out my driving licence, but she would not accept it! Apparently that isn't a valid form of identification?! She wanted to see a bank card?! "And" she continued to yell at us, "it has to be both of you!" So, my partner took out his Debit card, but she would not look at it! Instead, she asserted we would be "better off bringing our own coffee and sitting in the park". Well, we wanted food as well as drinks. But at this point, I was tired of being shouted at so aggressively, as we were dumbfounded by the unwarranted hosility. I guess this Costa is not interested in welcoming customers back. We went to the very pleasant deli a few doors down!

Only take-aways available due to lockdown restrictions, and it was later in the afternoon when we wanted a coffee so it was good to see Costa still open. We are regular users of Costa, so know what to expect. Restricted numbers inside to order but that was fine.

We go to this costa store everyday.. spending £20 each time. We don't get any friendly service..Everytime no matter who it is, they'll whisper to each others ears in front of you and laugh, making you wonder if they're laughing at you.. which is very degrading.Also a number of locals have been saying the same. Once, I walked in with the mask not properly on my mouth/nose.. and I was yelled at.. what if I were exempt from wearing one? The staff are completely rude, and they can't even cut a sandwich evenly. If I could give it 0/5 I would.

The coffee is brilliant, but the only reason I go their is because of just that, I feel that the staff are rude and they look like they speak about you before walking in, they also once told us in a rude manner to put our masks one it was just a one time mistake but they way they've said it was horrible, sometimes I feel like I shouldn't come in and spend my money, I work hard everyday and I just want a coffee.. I spend alot their everyday nearly, and I don't get one respect I thought I deserve...I'm just gonna cut it to the chase that they need to be happier and show willing in their establishment and if not, your in the wrong job! As it should he customers comes first and not some person to throw rude comments at! Disgusting

Popped in to grab a couple of drinks to go and the service we received was outstanding! 2 of the sweetest ladies - diolch!! Very helpful, ensured all social-distanding rules were followed. Super clean and tidy! Also offered all available deals too! Very impressed - one of the best Costa's we've visited!

Came here for a cup of coffee and was greeted by staff shouting at me to go and wait outside. Even after being ket in to the coffee shop, staff were rude and served me a disgusting cortado. Worst I've ever had. It was very bitter in taste and dark in colour and I actually didn't feel comfortable complaining about the coffee - the only place where this has happened.

Costa. Has normal Costa is good value for money. The greeting service and smile came free, would recommend.

Overall a really negative experience and the drinks were sub-par. Upon entry we were barked at to go and wait outside without so much of a hello. After waiting, we weren't even allowed to go to a table to drop off bags as we had to order first (the first time I had experienced this in a Costa). We were then escorted to a table that they had picked for us. This only happened to us and no other customers which was just awful. Finally, the drinks were not to the usual Costa standard. After seeing other reviews I am not surprised that service was appalling. We ended up driving 40 mins to another Costa.

I am a frequent visitor to Costa and mostly have a great experience. I enjoy all of their products and customer service is usually five star and with a smile. However, I have to say that the Porthmadog Costa is one of the best in the UK, the team vibe is genuinely friendly, courteous and professional. I have had a couple of minor issues with others but this one is consistently pleasant and delivers exactly what I’m accustomed to receiving. Well done Port Costa and a huge high five

Popped in for some breakfast. Was asked (extremely) impolitely to go back outside (covid 19 regs) and did as asked. Started a conversation in Welsh (Welsh first language speaker) and was given a blank stare. Not a single Welsh sign in sight or a Welsh speaking member of staff (take into consideration Porthmadog is in the heart of Gwynedd, the county with the highest % of Welsh speakers in Wales). Sad, and won't be returning

Not the most helpful staff - quite rude really. And due to the social distancing required, only 4 tables allowed for seating. But they really hadn’t made the most of it. Needs better organisation.

The senior member of staff was so rude (Covid Police) that her colleague looked at us with pure embarrassment. We eventually walked out without ordering as she aimed more of her vitriol at other customers.

Nice to see costa coffee in Porthmadog clean bright & and comfortable good service lovely coffee nice mince tart.

We visited twice over a two day period, once for coffee and the next morning for toast, a bacon barm and coffees. The coffees were good but the barm cake had been overcooked and was a little hard, but the bacon was good.On both occasions there were plenty of locals who knew each other, but it was a pleasant atmosphere.

A typical Costa. Staff are very friendly and serve good coffee!! Always a warm welcome. A good place to catch up with friends in a relaxing atmosphere.

I have always gone to Port Costa, but a few months ago I noticed the cappuccinos were very weak and like dish water. I left it for a while ( visited the many other coffee shops in Port instead) but went back yesterday. The coffee was awful! Exactly the same, weak. I returned the drink and the server said ' theres plenty of coffee in there, maybe you need to pay extra for another shot ' WHAT???? She replaced it and after a while did give me a complimentary extra shot. However it was still awful so I left it. The Staff are OK, some in the past have been lovely but yesterday there was a distinct atmosphere of CBA. I have emailed the head office and am awaiting a reply but as its owner by Whitbread I'm not holding my breath. Anyone reading this try Cadwaladrs next door or the one further up the road next to Freshfields charity shop cant remember the name.

One of the only coffee shops open early on a May Sunday morning. Service a bit slow but I suppose that’s just the easy pace of life in North Wales. Rush rush rush in large citiesUsual standard of coffee. I always have a flat white in Costa as the latte isn’t strong enough unlike Caffè NeroPleasant enough environment especially if you’re by the window

I went there yesturday to have a nice drink with my friend, and one of the members of staff told us that we had to leave and take our drinks out with us. There were other people sitting down so obviously I asked why, she said that we couldn’t be trusted because we looked like we were going to cause trouble. It was raining outside so I automatically reacted and said “well if you’re going to treat us like that, we’re leaving without our drinks.” Moments later we saw some other kids about the same age as us walk in, she was completely fine with them sitting. I don’t know if this is how they’ve been trained, but they just costed them a lot of money as regular customers we were not expecting this but now they can expect to see us a lot less.I do hope that they get the training they need, although I’m fourteen and I know more manners that that old cow. I will appear every now and then to see if you’ve inproved this situation especially scenes as it could cost you hundreds of pounds. Thank you Isabelle Barton ❤️

Dont usually drop into chain coffee shops but found ourselves here when it was raining. Excellent coffee, reasonably priced. Cream as an option? No problem sir.Downside? a bit cramped, small tables to maximise bums on seats. No sound deadening so noisy when busy, not ideal for a quiet chat at such times. But clearly popular with young Mums as a meet up location

Located at the Railway end of the High Street with convenient free on street parking outside. It has been 3 years since I was last in this Costa and standards seem to have changed. We called in about 2.30 on a Wednesday afternoon and despite there only bring one person in front of me, service was slow.In saying that, the coffee was good.The place was largely empty when we arrived but the main issue was the fact that the most of tables were full of trays of cups and plates awaiting collection. Some customers were clearing tables themselves and taking trays over to the counter. I saw two gentlemen sit at the table in the window, clear the table and put the tray on the windowsill, alongside another full tray.The tables out side were also full of empty cups and plates.Nobody appeared to be making any effort to clear the tables despite their being 3 members of staff behind the counter and there not being a queue.

In a town that has multiple independent tea and coffee shops, it defies me while people would go to a chain coffee shop for inferior drinks and overpriced snacks. Can't recommend this place but can recommend the many other coffeehouses in town which helps keep the money in Porthmadog.

Was running late in the morning, so popped in for a coffee for the journey to work. What an utter shame....I couldn't actually drink the coffee and poured it down the sink when I got to work. How can the barista mess up this bad???? Utter tasteless waste of money, and service isn't great...have stopped going since. Dowe Egberts and a thermos all the way!!

I mean the food and coffee were it’s normal standard and the place is generally clean but the staff had there kids there running around the whole time we were there and it didn’t make for a safe or pleasant experience. Service isn’t great either always seems to be too much effort to help people with mobility issues. Much prefare the Caernarfon or Pwhelli branch.

A nice clean shop and toilet facilities. We had a Toasted sandwich and cappuccino each. We have always found Costa to be trusted and reliable for quality food and coffee.

Arrived early morning and worked off my laptop until lunchtime. Not the best welcome from the barista, but coffee was good and granola slice was very fresh! Clean & tidy all round.

Smallish Costa on the high street. All the usual that you expect from the chain. Clean, tidy and pleasant staff. A few tables outside for the smokers.

Although I was the only person needing to be served I waited ages whilst staff cleared tables. The place didn't feel clean and generally not well run.

Visitamos el miércoles. Servicio lento lento. Mi bocadillo tostado un buen pocos minutos antes de la copa. Las órdenes eran 2 sirve una equivocada y rectificar chap volvió con su café con leche y dijo que estaba frío. No hay argumento, sólo le hizo uno...

Llamamos aquí para el café, que estaba bien. Tengo que decir que el personal necesita una mejor capacitación. Estuvimos allí durante unos 30 minutos, donde los dos chicas quedó y conversamos entre algunos clientes, sirve cuando podrían haber limpiado las mesas sucias que conté a 6 mientras estaba sentado con mi café.

Mismas cosas diferentes costa realmente. Tengo que decir que el personal es amable y mantener el lugar limpio y encantador

Visited for a coffee/hot chocolate and cake.Delicious almond and raspberry slice. Coffee (as usual for Costa) needs two shots for my taste making it dearer than other outlets. but good.. Medium is plenty big enough.Shame they charge even more for cream on the hot chocolate when the price is above average anyway.. Good service on a busy day.

I had breakfast here twice while staying in Porthmadog. The staff were efficient but not friendly. The stock of food was poor which was surprising for early in the morning. On the positive side the wifi was good and the cafe was nice and quiet.

Situated in the High Street, this is a pleasant place to rest a while and take a coffee and catch up with the newspaper, the seating is well arranged and the staff are always friendly and helpful.A double espresso Macchiato and a tasty granola bar, amounted to £3.85.

I often come here with my two young children. To be honest I dare not take them anywhere else as they cause mayhem!The staff here are lovely, friendly and helpful. The place is always clean, and I always feel welcome, even if my kids are being unruly or making mess (which I try and clean up)I always find the drinks really good in Costa, and the sandwiches/panini are lovely. I don't think the cakes are particularly good, but that's the same in all branches and not unique to this one!It's very reasonably priced for what it is too.

Unfortunately a frustrating experience.The long, long wait for a simple coffee was not overly annoying although an inconvenience, I understand this Costa is a busy place. So if not the wait, then what earned the 2 stars? It was the fact that the server (till boy) realised I had not received my order and did nothing to correct this. I decided to wait and see if anything was done by this server. Nothing was. A good 10 minutes later and 15 customers later it took another barrister who had passed me earlier - and was washing dishes - to realise that I was still standing waiting for my take out. At this point the server shot off and disappeared around the back once one of the older barristers realised his mistake, took over and gracefully refunded my coffee whilst the other made it. So thank you to these two barristers. To the other who disappeared when the others realised, shame on you for not correcting your mistake.

Totally gobsmacked at some people's level of ignorance a member of staff told a lady with Tourette's to gooutside and that he would bring their drinks out

I come here quite often, the staff are always friendly and ask me how my day is going which is nice, the food and drinks are reasonable prices and arrive once they have been made ,

Was visiting family and we actually drove 35 minutes to come here and get a coffee and go out for lunch somewhere. The shop seemed nice and clean and staff seemed okay, didn't go that extra way to give a smile and have a chat (ask how your day was etc) which is what I have become a custom to in my local costa coffee shops. I ordered my usual skinny caramel latte. It was hot, but tasted awful I think I took 3 mouthfuls and binned the rest of it. I think that staff might need a little more training. Had great potential, maybe I visited on a bad day.

Costa is what it is. Great coffee, standard food across the stores. Nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with Costa Porthmadog. We used this store a couple of times whilst on holiday and the staff were friendly and efficient. The place was clean and well presented too.

We called in for coffee which we normally do when in Porthmadog. Although it was very busy we did not have to wait too long. The coffee was up to it's normally high standard.

Pleasant cafe and staff. Usual costa fare and free wifi in a land where my phone rarely works! It is a bit expensive for a family of five and smaller child portions of cake or muffin would improve the impact on my purse.

A typical Costa Coffee shop on the main street, very well run, food selection very well presented, premises very clean &amp; tidy and judging by the number of people having coffee there this morning, many people have come to this conclusion. A pleasure to visit.

The hot chocolate is absolutely awful. It just tastes like hot milk. The cream is even worse, and it smells like it's gone off. They don't even put sprinkles on the cream!!!!! Bad service, the staff are always moody and don't want you there. Would not recommend.

Being mod have visited costa coffee throughout the uk . Mod personal always recieve discount on there coffee on which is a good thing . That is a company thanking you for your service to the country.I have never been refused my discount in any costa coffee.On this occasion the gentleman who served me told me .. We don't take that mod card !! Carried on with his work like I wasn't there at all .I told him he is the 1st costa that has ever refused me . And I was here 2 weeks ago and recieved this .I was told it was up to the person who was serve me to give discount.Guess this guy was having a bad day attitude was not good . His personality was zero and I shall not be going back there ...

We call here most weeks and always have a coffee. The quality of the coffee can depend on which Barista is on duty. We have had really good ones but on occasions we have been disappointed.

While on a break in Porthmadog We fancied a proper coffee. We headed down to the Costa. We usually use Starbucks in our city. This was a stark contrast away from a Starbucks. The Coffees was ok but the place was horrendous. There was only one table left. We sat in between a gang of about 10 lads aged 14/15 years old who was listening to music on their mobiles very loudly. On the other side there was a table of 8 girls aged roughly 13, who was screaming, shouting and fighting anoungst each other. Both groups did not have coffees and obviously using it as a hang out. We had to ask to have our drinks to go. I was hoping soneone asked me if everything was ok, but they didmt. They poured them into cups and off we went. It was releiving to step back out into the cold windy rain. I will never use a Costa again.

Every Costa I've ever been in has been clean, tidy and friendly staff. Sadly this one had none.Cup was dirty, staff were moody and unhelpful. Tables need to be cleaned as they go.Maybe some staff training days are needed

I wouldn't normally write a review of a coffee shop but it was my first time in Wales and I had an overwhelming fear of being spoken to in Welsh...for some reason. The lady behind the counter when I visited (for the life of me I can't remember her name) was really friendly and full of banter and she made me start my day on an incredibly positive note by giving me a few laughs and a large cup of coffee.

Visited before and staff weren't so friendly and drinks weren't up to standards, especially when paying those prices.. Visited again and staff were more welcoming and drinks better.

Best coffee shop in North Wales, the staff are so polite and most helpful, I go in most days now, take no notice of previous reviews, no reflection on how the place really is.

Service is ok not great! Staff dont seem that friendly! Been to a few costas and staff usually are very friendly but not so much here! Drinks and food ok like any usual costa but service is a let down!

Visited here yesterday as it was so nice to see a Costa coffee on Porthmadog high street! The staff were excellent and friendly and were cleaning the whole time I was there! Great coffee, clean and modern environment and free wifi! A perfect mix! Nice toilets too.

Went for a coffee on Saturday and found it busy, there were only 2 staff on duty so the dirty cups were not being cleared.The door closer was broken so the door was being left open causing a draught.

Very handy and great venue to meet in porthmadog. Very clean and great service and value. Only problem you only get one hour parking on high street. Great seating and good range of foods

I was delighted to see that Costa had opened a branch in Porthmadog ... now I could indulge myself in my favourite Costa treat - Iced Mocha! Wrong! My Iced Mocha was slow in arriving, served without a smile from the barista maestro and tasted of neither coffee nor mocha. My partner had a Cappuchino which tasted very bitter - again not up to Costa's usual standard. It was my understanding that, as a franchise, all Costa products would be of the same standard but, unfortunately this branch lets the side down.

We were pleased to see that Costa had opened in Portmadog. As regular customers of Costa in other places we had come to expect a high quality of service and drinks. Costa in Porthmadog was extremely disappointing. Despite not being particularly busy (just 5 people ahead of us in the queue) it took over 20 minutes to get from door to table. The Americano coffee was too weak as was the hot chocolate. Perhaps they haven't got the quantity of coffee/chocolate right yet! We were paying premium prices for drinks that were not up to the Costa standard on this occasion. We will be taking our custom to one of the other local restaurants next time.
