Corries Cabin in Isle of Wight

The food was fabulous, on Tuesdays they currently offer gluten free which was perfect for my daughter. The menu was a giggle to read and the service quick and friendly. They also offered great chicken nuggets for our non fish lover as well. Really great - would heartily recommend.

My son emailed them beforehand as I am severely allergic to shellfish. He was assured that my food would be cooked separately but on arrival were told that everything is cooked in the same oil and that's how it's always been done so we had to go elsewhere at 8pm when we were tired and hungry and had pre checked that they were able to accommodate our needs. The lady serving was condescending and not at all helpful. Seriously disappointing!!! I would not recommend anyone with allergies etc to eat here.

Great fish and chips including wheat free batter if wanted. Highly recommended. Always busy so be prepared to wait but it's freshly cook and really crispy.

Went with my 1 and 4 year old. Warm and welcoming service. Games/books/puzzles for the kids. Food was excellent. Both children can be picky but they ate loads. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent fish and chips. The oil used to fry the batter and chips was fresh. The batter was lovely and crisp. Medium classic fish and chips was a good portion size. We sat in and enjoyed some wine with it as well. A very pleasant experience all round

We ordered one portion of fish and chips to share. This seemed quite expensive compared to sitting in the restaurant. However, the fish was cooked perfectly and the chips were lovely, just finished them all too quick!

Visited many times before but this time the fish and chips was not up to the usual standard. The fish was mostly batter and very dry inside, so I suspect it had been hanging around for a while. I'm surprised they don't do a children's fish and chips. Our local independent chippy in Dorset does a meal deal which consists of a half size nice piece of cod, a few chips and a soft drink all served in a child's novelty bag and costing just £6. Instead we had to buy a small portion of fish at £8 which was too much for a 6 year old. Server could do with some customer service training.

We'd been here before and tried again as,on the whole, they are good fish and chips to take away. However the same experience as last time in that the fish batter,if not eaten quickly, does go greasy and the underside of the fish sticks to the paper. The fish batter needs to be cooked more crispy to stop this..as other places do. Hope that when we come back things are changed

The best fish and chips on the Island Not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. The staff are great too. Very welcoming. Can't fault it. The fish tastes so fresh and the batter so crispy and not greasy. Chips great and the homemade tartar sauce is delicious. Also its licensed if you want a drimk with you meal !

Really nice take-away fish & chips on what was, probably one of the last, warmer October evenings on the beach front! Ordered a small portion but it was still a generous size, for £9ish I thought it was very reasonable! Cooked fresh and tasted great, would definitely recommend!

Ordered a takeaway at 6.30 on a Monday evening. It was prepared quickly enough but £16.05 for a small and a medium portion of fish & chips seemed very expensive! The chips seemed warmed up rather than freshly fried( all chewy and greasy) and the fish was mediocre at best. Disappointing.

Just what we needed after a long day, perfect crispy cod, nicely cooked chips and lovely mushy peas. Decent sized portions and good quality fish.

Had take away F&C from here yesterday DO NOT waste your money!!! Fish appears to be lots of ends but together in batter, and not cooked. Chips were good but NO salt and vinegar although we requested both. An extremely disappointing snd over priced by meal. We order a medium the bill came to £16:00 and the was a OAP on the order did they really assume we were OAP’s or did this mean something else?

Ordered medium fish and chips for 3 people with one small portion of curry sauce. It came to about £28 which is expensive compared to home (although I kind of accept this is tourist related) and the portions were quite modest. The food tasted very good and is in a nice location though.

Overall not a bad fish and chips. The portions are smaller than I expected - I opted for medium cod (normally more than enough for me from any other fish and chip shop I would go to), however was left wanting more. Good to have homemade tartar sauce!I enjoyed the food, however, others I was with said they were underwhelmed. Shame!

Really disappointed that when I went to pick up a family meal, I arrived at 8.35pm to be told they had stopped frying and that I would need to take what was left over. A couple of fish and plenty of battered sausage left but was looking to to feed 4 people fish and chips. The timings clearly state they are open to 9pm but the person serving was adamant that they stopped cooking 30 mins before. Please make this clear!! Most people would expect to be able to put in an order 25 minutes prior to closing. There is nothing on the signage that shows this. I appreciate we are in difficult times but a bit of clear communication goes a long way. We’re in 2020 after all!!

Batter on the fish so crisp, kids love the nuggets too. Chips are to die for. I’m not a lover of fish and chips, but I make an exception here!!

Flavourless ‘flaccid’ chips and a flimsy piece of haddock in a batter/fried gruel of flour, water and seemingly nothing by way of either seasoning or taste. Fish & Chips doesn’t get much duller than this offering ..... have a bag of crisps instead!

It isn't our local restaurant as we live in Newport but it was definitely worth travelling a little further than normal.food was delicious and also staff were very busy and also very friendly and polite which makes it all worth while

We had fish and chips for lunch whilst visiting Cowes. The service was prompt, efficient and the COVID 19 precautions were spot on. The fish and chip were excellent, freshly cooked, crispy and virtually grease free.

Lovely fish and chips. Order was done very quickly. You order in shop collect out the back, this made it feel very safe.

We were recommended to go to Corrin’s Cabin, and it did not disappoint. The chips were perfectly cooked, the fish was some of the best we have had. We also had a pancake roll and chicken nuggets which were great as well.This is definitely worth a visit.

First visit here after looking online for decent fish and chips on the north side of the island, we weren’t disappointed. Great value for money and excellent portion sizes. Only downside was a 20 min wait for food after queuing for around the same amount of time, but understandably COVID has probably had an impact on this.

This afternoon we treated ourselves to some food from our local chip shop, it seems like a long time since we last ate out (due to Lockdown) we were very pleased with the speed of service and quality of the food. Friendly service, tasty food and happy to see recyclable food containers. Great to be able to support local independent businesses.

An outstanding Fish & Chip Restaurant and Take away. When my wife are on the Island we make a pilgrimage for this Restaurant- it really is fantastic - beautiful fish and chips in a very clean environment.If you visit the Isle of Wight any time do try this restaurant it’s so special and at very reasonable prices

Popped in about 7.00 on a Sunday and the three meals we ordered were really nice. The staff were friendly so couldn’t really ask for much more.

Delighted to discover that they offered gf fish and chips. Pleasant little cafe with a licence so we had a glass of wine as well. Excellent service. Sadly the fish was a little undercooked for my taste and the batter a little claggy but overall we enjoyed the meal and thought price and portion size were both good.

Not bad fish and chips. Speedy service, fish was okay. Chips were good. Would not go in a hurry. Chippies in Cowes aren't the best due to there being the wrong first in the area so everything must be imported ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We ate from the takeaway whilst on holiday and were very satisfied. We had eaten from here some years ago and were somewhat disappointed that time but thought we would give it another go on this visit and were very pleased that we did. We had signed up for special offers through their Facebook page and that gave us a BOGOF deal for fish and chips so we had those and added battered sausages and mushy peas. The chips were fresh and tasty, the batter was crisp and the fish/sausages of excellent quality. We visited on a Tuesday so the takeaway was using gluten free batter. At full price I would suggest it is a little on the pricey side compared to other areas of the country but as long as the quality remains high the price can be justified.

We both had and awful fish and chip meal from them. Chips were warmed up from the day before! Disgusting! They were hard and like rubber. Fish was supposed to be cod, never seen grey bland cod before. The hole meal was rubbish, can not recommend

August BH - Awful fish and chips, soggy, batter, fish over cooked. Chips very poor quality tasted terrible, and very greasy. Very expensive as chips are extra, over £20 for 2 x small and 1 x medium. Just don’t bother. Rude staff too when I question the cost.

We always take our friends here when they are over and want a sit down fish and chips. We are lucky as the IOW has some great chippies and this is no exception piping hot fresh cooked fish with loads of chips 10/10

My 2 sisters and I went to Cowes last Saturday and decided to have fish and chips. The batter was soggy the fish chewy and tasteless and the chips just awful.

Wanted a quick tea on day of arrival so popped into restaurant. Fish and chips ok, my son wanted fishcakes which came with beans or peas, he wanted chips so £9.00 for 2 fishcakes and £3.20 for chips. Outrageous prices and staff plain rude and a bit thick to be honest. Might visit the takeaway but never ever the restaurant again.

We visited for fish and chips to sit and eat in the harbour, we weren't disappointed. 2 x cod and chips, 2 x sausage and chips went down very well... Would go back if I was in the area.

The cod melted in my mouth ! Batter was beautifully crispy ... fish was so fresh chips where good tasting and chunky and a bit squidgy how they should be . Service was officiant and friendly

Having sampled a few fish and chips when visiting the Isle of Wight we got quite used to eating fresh fish, light batter and a none greasy meal - sadly this place didn’t live up to the reviews.

You might say that fish and chips to go can't possibly be a five star meal. And you would be right. But I'm sticking to my guns. I give five stars to Corrie for fulfilling my expectations. Bought home fish and chips for the whole family, and everybody loved it. Be sure to pick up some home made Tartar sauce as well!

Great service as always but your fish was amazing, normally just takeaway but sat in today to eat and was a great change. Thank you for great food, atmosphere, and staff.

Remember when fish & chips were steaming, translucent flakes of fresh white cod in crunchy golden batter and red-hot just fried chips, with proper potato centres, that you had to blow on first before putting in your mouth, all served with salt and proper malt vinegar? Well, try to imagine the exact opposite, a parody of the real thing, all the way down to the large bottles of non-brewed condiment. If that's your idea of a 5* meal then this is the place for you!

Such a nice eat in or take out traditional fish and chip shop. Fresh fish, great chips and lovely, in fact the best home made tartare sauce ever. Maybe they have a secret recipe. Very nice staff, service with a smile and glad to see no plastic packaging.

We visited one evening and sat in the restaurant. We were the only people in there, so the service was fast. I have to say I usually find fish and chips a little nauseating as it is so greasy. Not this one though. My wife even noted that she thought this was the best fish and chips she had eaten. The children finished theirs too. Well worth a visit and you can see why it has won awards.

First time F & C from here and it was excellent ! Lovely fish ( Huss ), nice batter, nicely cooked, and nice chips and a generous portion. A little expensive but don’t mind that so much if it’s nice, and it was ! Had a takeaway and ate it overlooking the Solent. Sit in is also available. RECOMMENDED !!

REALLY disappointed at the price hike. £15.80 for a small cod and chips and 2 large chips. Don’t trash the locals, we leave you lose.

Portions are large so arrive hungry. They add 25p to your bill for the local food bank which is a great idea. We spent over £20 on the wonderful handmade fish cakes and chips and burger and chips with bread and butter, cappuccino and lemonade. When you pay we were given a white chocolate fish and chip and a post card. Lovely clean chip shop and the take away is just next door.

The portion size is tiny compared to back home in Reading! and the price is higher. The fish is lovely and good quality and so is the curry sauce but I expected it to be amazing and it wasn't.

A delicious place to enjoy traditional 'fish & chips', ours were excellently cooked and ample portions. We ate in the restaurant itself and the service was friendly and unobtrusive. It is a licensed restaurant with a plentiful choice of drinks for every pallet. highly recommended.

Went in to the shop, paid £7 for cheesy chips and a curry sauce. Awful. Expected quality, could have made it at home even better. Cheese wasn’t melted ( for £7 was expected more than a lump of grated cheese on top) and took about 15 minutes before they called any names. Chips were good, although could have been better considering we found hairs in 3 dishes out of 4. Seemed very pricey for average food.

We came here to get some food to take back to our caravan, which was probably the most local to where we were staying (or at least I could find).

Don't remember the last time I had fish and chips this nice. We had a take away on a Sat evening around 7pm. Even after the ten minute walk back to the house the chips and the batter were still crispy and the fish very fresh. Pie also very good. Highly recommend.

Visited on a Friday evening, Small restaurant attached to a takeaway. Staff friendly. Party had a mixture of fish, pie, chicken and sausage. Fish and sausage were very good. Decided to sit in the young girl who served us was ok took a while to recieve our meals of two fish and chips they both looked very nice on the plate they seem to overcook the fish lots of very crispy batter both ends the cod when reaching it was ok also had one bottle of cider.

Needed a meal fast as all of us were showing angry signs of hunger! Take away option delivered what we ordered swiftly and easily. V helpful staff who guided us on portion size.

As promised in my previous review, our family group of 21 returned to Corries Cabin following a day trip to the island.

I've been there on a few occasions now and it started of well but went down from there. on my first visit all friendly, food is average, not your 10/10 meal. The old geezer who i can tell is the boss was very friendly got me pepper from the kitchen and was very kind. but since he's not around. the crew of 3 youngens just took the mic out of me for asking. like come on man just get me my pepper and don't be lazy, I already know it's on the shelf less than 5 metres away from you, not everyone stomach lining can handle vinegar. especially that ginger lad and the not so appealing looking 25 year old blonde/brown haired geezer. that made me very angry during my visit like they had an inside joke about getting pepper from the room (don't think I don't see you laughing when I ask) next to them because of this poor service standards when it comes to dealing with younger customers (especially staff around your own age, they looked down on me) I will never recocomend or return. I'd rather eat chicken wings at the greasy kebab shop 1 minute away than deal with this blood boiling anguish again, this maybe different for other members of public that are older than 25 years old and have facial hair. any younger then that you are very unfortunate, I have a cockney accent and they belittled me like I was nothing, never again. Chips awfully soggy and under cooked but the cod was alright still.
