Its difficult everywhere now and no more than here but having traveled and lived in India there is no doubt this establishment can cook. Made us a wonderful yet traditional meal with a smiling face despite the pressure they are under full of flavour and quality. Ignore the facade of the premises. The food is authentic and well delivered

Place is a pure dive. Both got food poisoning useless sad excuse of a manager trying to rip people off for below average food, forgotten some of our order and was that bad we asked to change toileting edible. Went to pay and he became aggressive assaulted me with a table and right in my face while spitting with mask down. Police has to be called and Place has been reported to health dept for being dirty and unsanitary especially through covid. Owner is a pathetic geezer and a cowboy. Reopened after covid restrictions but will not return again the food is rushed far too greasy and absolutley honking attitide has slipped aswell as the guy just takes your money and dosent care what the food looks like that he serves you. The guy is obviously trying to cook and serve on his own but he should not be cooking if he cant cook properly . Everything was dripping in grease and some things where burnt to a crisp . I wont return and reccomend others to avoid this place the taj mahal is around the corner and is much nicer and served always with a smile and good food. This has to be the first Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to that had no chopsticks or chilli oil. Never mind the eye-watering prices for what was clearly heated up food. Tandoori chicken strips ordered as starter from the ‘Indian’ menu were oily and never been near a tandoori oven, while the cheese naan was like a cheese toast, except for the fact cheese had been sprinkled on naan instead of bread before going under the grill. Don’t go!

My hot and sour soup was inedible, just some curious looking bits with sweet chilli sauce. Not right at all. Partners chow mein looked like a rubbish microwave meal. Where do I begin? Horrendous doesn't do it justice. Avoid, avoid, avoid. Nearly £40 for the worst meal we have ever eaten. The prawn crackers were grey and swimming in grease, the prawn toast with sesame seeds (which we had to wait for half an hour ) seemed to missing any prawns, and the spring rolls were so greasy, yuk.The fried rice was so dry and tasteless I hardly touched it and I thought the sweet and sour chicken balls were okay until I found a black bottle in the chicken. The restaurant itself was freezing with absolutely no atmosphere.

What a manky table, sticky, gum underneath and curry spills all over the table cloth. Nice. This restaurant was brilliant when it first took over the Edo, however I now feel that the standards have dropped, my partner had the sweet and sour chicken balls, he said that they were actually very good, a little greasy but not bad, I had the crab soup or seafood soup? It was very very salty and very thick - which would be great if it didn't consist mainly of water - it was like a gloopy bowl of gelatine with shredded seafood sticks inside. I feel like i'm repeating myself here but if you live by the coastline just order in some fresh fish! The man at the counter was very sweet and gave us free prawn crackers for waiting, but the large girl who was there was rather abrupt and kept glaring at us from the bar. Good food apart from the soup however and not a bad place to eat I suppose when its busy, keeps staff from loitering.

Ordered chicken chat on puree starter and Lamb Dum Ghost with special fried rice and 1 paratha. The indian meal was decent tasty food. If I had 1 issue it would be the fact that too much ghee or butter was used in all items. Now don't get me wrong that's how it used to be with indian asian type food, but its now 2016 so everything was a bit heavy for me. I would order again but maybe something that used less ghee generally. Less butter = less heavy. Get that sorted lads and you've got a good restaurant/take away there. Cheers see you again.

We then had the Chicken Korma and Chicken Balti with rice and chips tasteless. Save your money and your taste buds, I now realise why we were the only ones in there. Myself, and my family sat in for a basic Indian meal last Saturday evening. All we had was three chicken curry's (Balti, Korma, etc), two with rice, one with chips, two nan breads, six popudoms, and 5 soft drinks (cans). We were charged a ridiculous £53.30!!!! Radio 1 Extra was being played very loudly throughout our entire meal. For anyone who doesn't know what Radio 1 Extra play, it is rap music/drum and base. Totally out of place in any restaurant, let alone an Indian. To cap it all off, the chicken in all of our curry's was very tough. We were really unimpressed with this place. If you sit in, be prepared for vastly overinflated prices, compared to the take away menu. Make sure you check the cost marry's up with what you've ordered. We holiday in this area every year. You may have to wait a while if your timing is poor - and they can get rather busy - but this is the place to get your 'Indian' carry-out in Lochgilphead. You can eat-in and they claim to serve 'Chinese' too but I've not tried that. Most of the service seems to be of takeaway food. I like the chicken or lamb madras, which is quite hot,but everything I've tried is good except, perhaps, the naan bread which, I think, is probably from a packet. Suggest rice rather than bread. Plenty of veggie side dishes - the channa is good, saag aloo not bad.

Food was ok. Not wonderful, but ok. Service was very disappointing. On my own. Asked if I could get half rice and chips with my chicken curry, as I was on my own and a full portion of each on their own would be too much. Waiter said yes, but then came back when chef said no. I didn't actually expect it to be possible, but wasn't too impressed that waiter said yes, then chef over-ruled him. Obviously I just got one of the two anyway then, so they earn the same. Was the only customer in the place. Waiter didn't come back to check if food was ok as is standard practice. Only asked me if everything had been ok as I was leaving and paying. Waiter seemed quite young, and not completely sure of what he was doing. Not such an enjoyable experience overall.

There are not a huge choice of places to eat in Lochgilphead, so se settled in the Coriander. It was pretty basic, a bit like a takeaway with a restaurant. However, we were very hungry. I was with my two sons, aged five and sixteen. The restaurant was completely empty. Despite this, we were shown to a table for two and told we could have an extra chair, even though there were at least two four seater tables free. We shifted to our own four seater table. Ordered drinks. I had tap water but there was no ice in it, or the other drinks. We ordered Chinese. Our ribs came with the wrong sauce. The other two dishes are very wish washy and not tasty. The service was completely disinterested. Eventually he came over to see if we needed another drink. Has the feel of a takeaway place where you cans it in if needs be which does mediocre food. They do not serve alcohol either - which might have made the experience more enjoyable!

I decided to eat at this place after reading the reviews on tripadvisor. I was working in the area & lochgilphead is hardly a hotbed of restaraunt choice. Upon entering the place i stood around at the counter a few minutes before being shown to a table - i was the only sit in patron during my whole visit i may add. I think the locals use this mostly as a takeaway rather than a place to dine in.I ordered a mixed pakora for starter & tandoori mixed grill for main. The waiter brought ny starters to me quite quickly - they tasted ok - however a little dry as i wasnt given a dip - normally i'd expect a mint sauce or chilli sauce to be served with pakora - but nope! I waited about five mins for him to come ask how my starter was, but he was hiding away in the back so i didnt really have a chance to ask for a sauce...20mins passed and he eventually took my empty starter plate away- i commented i had expected a sauce, he said i should have ordered one alongside it...!? Random!Onto the main course. The same fella delivered it to my table, sporting a sulky look on his face. I cant really fault the food i ate, it wasnt amazing, it was decent enough & £20 covered the bill for one person... I just didnt enjoy the sulkyness of the service, and felt a bit like they'd prefer i order a take away instead of sit in... I guess next time im in Lochgilphead i'll try Taj mahal around the corner from here

This was my third visit to Coriander and on each occasion I have enjoyed my meal. However the slow service puts me off returning. The waiter informed us they were short staffed in the kitchen which is presumably why it was almost an hour before he took our main course order. Having taken our order it was a further 30 minutes before the food was served. There were no other diners eating in and a relatively small number of customers wanting take away.Heaven help them if it was busy!

We had a takeaway for 8 of us when on holiday in nearby crinan. The food was tasty especially chicken palak. The Korma, butter chicken and tikka masala all tasted the same with varying degrees of food colouring to differentiate them. All together not bad

Short version: every now and then we think we should give this place another go. Then we remember why this is a bad idea. Long version: I had the Prawn Puri for my starter. The overall taste was slightly harsh, as if someone had used too much tomato puree. At least it was hot this time, unlike on our last visit when we could see our starters sitting on the counter for a good 5 to 10 minutes before they were brought to our table. My partner had the Hot & Sour Soup. He said that last time was very good, but this time it tasted as if the chef had gone a bit wild with the pepper grinder. I had Vegetable Dansak for my main course, which tasted like lentil soup that had been heavily garnished with cinnamon. Dansak is my favourite dish so I have had it in quite a few restaurants and I have known it to taste anything like this one did. My partner had Lamb Vindaloo which he said tasted like it had been made using Patak's Curry Sauce (not that there is anything wrong with Patak's, IF you are buying it from the supermarket for a quick and cheap dinner). The garlic naan was nice but the mushroom rice was less than impressive.Anyway, the next time we think about going here again I will re-read this review and just not do it.

A really pleasant surprise in a small town on the edge of the Highlands. We have just returned from a meal at Coriander where the quality of the meal was superb. We all chose the Indian options but there was a comprehensive Chinese menu available too, and which seemed to be doing a roaring take away trade. We live near Bradford in Yorkshire where there are many first class curry restaurants and the food here was up with the best of them. The decor both inside and out doesn't exactly fill you with confidence being far more functional than artistic but is comfortable enough. However, the quality of the experience and the food is the true test of the restaurant and Coriander passes both with flying colours. Our waiter was a pleasant local lad Ally ably supported by his colleagues who were always attentive and on hand but never overbearing. Each of the three of us had the prawn puri starter which was a great blend of fresh tastes with not too much tomato but just the right balance with spices and a really light, tasty puri set the standard for what was to follow. We chose three dishes of lamb and chicken to share along with side dishes of chick peas and mushroom bhaji. The taste of all of them was superb all being freshly prepared with good quality ingredients that produced a great dining experience. At the end of the meal the manager came over to ask how we had enjoyed the meal and joined us for a while in a really interesting chat. His enthusiasm and friendliness was evident in both his approach and that of his staff and restaurant experience. Th value of the food was great and we could bring our own drinks too ensuring that we had just what we enjoyed at a great price.I would have no hesitation in recommending that if you are in the area make an effort to have a meal at Coriander which I'm sure will give you yet another good reason to come back to Scotland.

We ate there several times, chinese and indian. Both delicious and good cost-value-ratio. Friendly and vigilant staff. The guy who mostly served us was nearly a little too vigilant, which sometimes was a little bit disturbing while eating.

We found this place by great good luck while driving to Kintyre on holiday. Not much to look at from outside and the decor is fairly basic inside. We were welcomed by a thouroughly charming young man who found the balance of being eager to please without being pushy or smarmy. We've eaten hundreds of home cooked and restaurant cooked Indian style meals (one of us is half Asian) but nothing could have prepared us for this. The best Indian meal I've ever tasted. They don't make it explosively hot but they do use different spices for every dish, and everything has the perfect balance of being spicy without drowing the flavour of the food. We complimented the okra curry and the waiter told us they get all their veg brought in fresh from Glasgow every day - with this dedication to quality they deserve to succeed. Two weeks later we deliberately delayed our journey home to make sure we were in Lochgilphead at lunch time and they proved that the first time was no fluke. If this place was in Glasgow or Edinburgh you'd have to book a month in advance. Don't drive through Lochgilphead without stopping here.

Whilst visiting Lochgilphead last week decided to have a carry out meal one night. After reading four menus decided to try Coriander. I started with (c) Peking Hot and Sour soup and was the best I had ever tasted,For main course (i) Lamb Tikka Chilli Masala and this was very good and tasty. My wife had Chicken Satay skewers followed by Beef Curry and Fried Rice and said they were both excellent. I only waited around 10 /15 minutes for our meal. The waiter gave me a portion of free prawn crackers to add to our meal. Prices very reasonable. I especially liked the idea of getting the best of Chinese and Indian under one roof. Has a restaurant and noticed that it was BYOB which seems good.rhodell (carry out Monday 10 Sept 2012)

Good Indian food at reasonable prices. Bring your own bottle and that makes it even better. You can buy soft drinks at the restaurant.

Have eaten here twice on fishing trips to Crinan. Food is excellent and fantastic value especially compared to what I pay in Edinburgh. BYOB which is not a bad thing, service was fine but food was great. After a day out fishing, it warmed me up and filled me up. Atmosphere not great but it was a Wednesday in Lochgilphead.

Pretty average Indian food. No alcohol licence. Having said that, there's not a great deal of choice in Lochgilphead and it's not a bad place.

To summarise this experience, one would say it’s not my finest hour. The order contained chicken balls which were slightly below mums cooking tbf but I’d recommend the prawn crackers if u got covid or smt cause they taste like the bag they come in. 5 Stars for the atmosphere, I didn’t collect but i’m sure it was aight. 5 stars

I expect to be a regular here in the coming weeks and months due to my work. So far I have visited twice and not been disappointed on either occasion. It’s nice to have a varied menu to keep the interest up.
