Cora in Cardiff

First off the restaurant is now above Jackson's fish bar in the Castle Arcade - not the address (at time of writing) on this page! The place has just 5 tables is run by a team of two, who put heart, soul and passion into making a great and unique dinning experience. I was wowed by about 4 of the 6 courses (and the others were great as well). It is an experience restaurant - expect to be there for 3 hours - the restaurant isn't flash. The chef wants a relaxed "normal" environment. It's not posh. And I loved the whole experience all the more for it. A memorable night and some amazing food.

We were made to feel very welcome by Helen and Lee during our lunchtime tasting menu. Lee’s dishes were exceptional - his ability to balance beautiful produce, flavour combinations and process was evident in every one of the 8 or so dishes. Meanwhile, Helen is a brilliant host who kept great company with us throughout and gave great recommendations of their interesting and unusual wine list. Highly recommend - a stand out dining experience; we will definitely return.

I was excited to try Cora after reading about them online. I hate chain restaurants and live to see diversity in styles, approaches ambience in restaurant settings and even more so with food. Lee and his team did not let me down. The bar is quirky and rustic, very much in the pop up style you see places like London and Bristol - it feels homely not part of a big retail machine. Started with cocktails in bar all god but waiting for main event when half a dozen couples climes the back stairs to a quirky attic type room laid out with a kitchen and half a dozen tables. It was a warm night out but enough windows were open and fans on to make it really comfortable and the tables were spaced out enough for you not to be crammed together. I love tasting menus like this and again Cora’s fare was superb. Seven incredible creations that not only tasted fantastic but looked equally so. Combinations you never would have thought of made from the highest quality ingredients. Not an every day or week restaurant but for special occasions and somewhere everyone should try at least once- food theatre at its best. I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops
