Copperfish Bar & Takeaway in Swansea

Everyone recommended this place to us so walked the whole bay yesterday to get there only to find it completely closed. We checked to see if it was open online and on here beforehand too! Very disappointed

I used to love getting chips from Copperfish before the fire which destroyed their original premises. When they opened in a new smaller building I was initially thrilled to see they were back albeit not in the same capacity. I've had quite a few takeaways of chips from here now and they've been very hit and miss. Unfortunately the vast majority has been a miss. The chips used to be what I considered perfect, firm, fresh and good quality potato. Now unless you get them straight out of the fryer they are soggy, breaking apart and on occasion overcooked. I'm at a point now where I'm about to give up and try to find somewhere else. I will try again however and maybe edit the review to include photos.

A real shame about the restaurant fire closing the eat in section, but still outstanding take away with great vegan and gluten free options. Looking forward to the restaurant rebuild.

Amazing chippy. Show that you don't have to go all posh to produce great fish & chips, all you need is good fish, a good batter, and a good fryer. Currently, afaik, only takeaway, but there are tables provided outside the shop. The only downer was that it was closed today without any notice.

Felt I had to leave a review for Copperfish, as we were so impressed with our food, and the selection. Fish was cooked fresh to order, chips were very generous portion sizes, and the fish was perfect - thick and flaky! When I have a craving for Fish and Chips, this is what I will be thinking of! Vegan options (Tofu wrapped in seaweed and fried) which even appealed to the carnivores in our party. It is a shame that currently, due to the recent fire of the amusement arcades, and the pier being under renovation, the area feels a touch uninviting, but it is clear form visiting that Copperfish, and the Mumbles Pier organisation are putting in effort to restore this Victorian Icon back to the attraction status it deserves, and I'm sure Copperfish will be celebrated for years to come.

Amazing fish and chips, the fish batter was so crispy and not overly greasy! They were able to cater to an allergy as well, which was mint. The staff are really polite and helpful, and the shop is clean.

Requested kids portion as can’t eat a whole adult fish and chips by self. Was informed will still be charged adult price of £10.45. Opted for the standard which arrived hot and within a short wait. Looked appetising, fish batter on top lovely and crispy, though underneath stodgy and whole fish holding excessive oil which I could taste and feel repeat afterwards. Fish was thin and average quality- a bit dry. Don’t eat fish and chips often and had decided to treat myself tho wish I had given it a miss. Chips tasted good though plenty of old crispy ones oozing with oil. Think should offer small and larger portions - it would make sense.

Visited the shop today (2.6.24) was served by a very rude person he took pur money and "forgot" to put the ticket for our food on the counter and when I asked if my wife was going too get her order he spoke too me as if I hadn't placed a order I will not be returning.

Had 1 bad experience here back in lockdown food was terrible,but since then I've tried the chips again 3 times and each time they are back to how they were when I first started eating there lovely.

Food was OK but cold by the time we actually got to eat it as service was so slow waiting for a missing item, no apology for this either. Wouldn't visit again if in the area as there are far better places to eat. It is also advertised as takeaway and restaurant, there is no restaurant so only option was to sit outside in the cold. Also expensive for fish and chips. Do not recommend

So, I think I've sampled everything off this menu on my holiday here ... And wow. Probably the best chip shop food I've ever had. The chips are perfection. I've personally tried the battered halloumi (my new favourite thing) the cod fish (wow wow wow) a sausage in batter (perfect!) And the scampi(again, wow) You have to visit if you come to mumbles, great views, great service. Will be back Came back again, 2 years after first visit, even though the restaurant has sadly gone, the food is still excellent quality

The gentleman that served us was fantastic; proper customer service and treatment. Considering this is a pier front establishment; the quality and particularly the amount of chips was much greater than I expected. The chicken burger was great; good flavour and very well cooked. Absolutely no complaints at all. Customer service goes a very long way and that's what I received here.

Had a burger with chips. The burger was dull… overworked, under seasoned, compacted and like a hockey puck in a bread roll. The chips were ok but, of course, being the cheapest part of the dish there were far too many. Not great for the price. Actually totally awful for the price. You’re better off getting a ‘fast food’ burger from somewhere else if you indeed just want a burger.

Came here on New Year’s Eve for fish and chips, the best we’ve ever had! Would recommend this takeaway for the best quality and service from the two young girls! Definitely will take a trip back

Visited here because of the good reviews, and we weren’t disappointed…searched for gluten free fish and chips in Mumbles before we visited on google and Copper Fish came up, my wife said her gluten free cod and chips were probably the best she has ever tasted….served very quickly and sat in the seated area outside on Mumbles pier in the sun….

We arrived in the evening and there was a short queue. It took a very long time to be served and then we found they had no haddock, mushy peas or gherkins left. We had cod and chips and waited a while for it, but it was definitely worth the wait. The best fish and chips any of us have had for a very, very long time. The batter was thin and crispy. The fish was perfectly cooked, moist but done. The chips were not greasy, they were steamy inside.

Staff seem like they didn't want to be there and it shows to the customers and waited a little long on the takeaway side considering its a fish and chip shop

Our first night in the Mumbles, and what a fabulous find. Lovely welcoming staff, a good menu selection and the most wonderful fish & chips! Absolutely delicious, would most definitely recommend this takeaway. And being able to sit and enjoy them with a great view of Swansea bay and a pint of local cider was just a bonus.

I ordered a sausage in batter and chips to take away. The food was standard ‘chippy’ fayre but delicious nonetheless. However, what left an overwhelmingly positive impression is the price I paid - £3.70 which, considering its location, is an absolute bargain.

Very tasty take-away. Batter wasn’t too heavy, good-sized portions, friendly staff, and outside tables to eat at with great views.

Decent fish and chips, Clean and tidy cafe, The staff could be more aware of their surroundings- the a-board sign was on the ground in the middle of the entrance and no one picked it up while we were ordering and waiting. But the food was good!

Out and about popped down to Mumbles pier for a coffee, great to see Copperfish reopened. Just had to sample the gluten free fish and chips again. Didn’t disappoint, perfectly cooked. Don’t miss it if you’re in the area especially if you’re gluten intolerant.

Fantastic chip shop, honestly one of the best I've had in a while. Recently reopened and hope they continue to do a roaring trade. Large portions, good cost and not too oily. Just perfect!!

Best fish and chips takeaway I've had in a very long time. Cooked to perfection, the right amount of salt and vinegar without even asking for more, great size portions, the children loved their meals, everything was perfect. Gluten free fish and chips as well and I couldn't tell the difference. Highly recommend.

We are so pleased to see the Copperfish open again. The best scampi and chips anywhere! The best way to end a walk along Mumbles prom, fantastic food, excellent setting and helpful and friendly staff.

Sadly this lovely restaurant was destroyed in a fire recently. Hope they rebuild soon. A favourite destination for our family.

We ordered early lunch today with my wife Received absolutely superb quality, well presented and very tasty food! There is great choice of main dishes, (not ony fish), sides and drinks. Something good for everyone. I really like the atmosphere in the restaurant, with eye catching decor and details, two big and well maintained marine fishtanks, and pleasant music. Staff very nice, helpful and approachable. Keep up with the smiles! 😀 The place is very neat and clean throughout. By far one of the best fish and chips restaurants I have visited, possibly the best in the area. Thank you, we will definitely return to try more.

Fab place great atmosphere food excellent. It is with great sadness to announce that this place suffered major damage in a recent fire. My thoughts go out to the owners who put their heart and soul into building this place up.

It's a very cosy restaurant with a direct view of Mumble Bay. Ordering is done via a QR code system and we were surprised how quick and easy everything was. The drinks were there after 2 minutes, the food after 7-10. The food consists of simple fish & chips , but with a lot of choice and vegan options. Everything looks very lovingly prepared and tastes fresh and delicious; the view is brilliant. Would recommend again at any time. Thanks to the kitchen and service <3

We arrived busy bank hol Saturday evening all tables booked but were able to have a non show table. Have to give a special mention for the staff member managing the front pier seating, she was amazing and not one single person was turned away whilst we were there despite the place booked out! She even accommodated a walk-in table of 8. Food was good too, vegan option could have more flavour however we will be returning. Entertainment was good too a Bruce Springstein impersonator. Stunning views over the Mumbles Pier.

Food was nice and the band outside great, but the service was very poor, lots of staff but no service, for this reason I would not return, found it ridiculously hard to order drinks or pay the bill.

Visited for a sit down meal. Food was both excellent and exceptional value for money. Stand outs were the mushy peas and the curry sauce. Both some of the best, if not the best we’ve had. Very impressed.

We visited on a hot Sunday afternoon: in the lull after a busy lunch service and before the evening onslaught. Took part in Summer Sunday quiz, staff insisted on moving a table into the shade when I said we wouldn’t stay because it was so hot (we have small kids). That set the right tone and things continued to be very positive after… Food was very nice, standard fish bar options but for a good price and done well. Given the location you almost expect this to be a bit of a disappointment (tourist trap) but we were very happy with our experience.

The prices they charge are ridiculous ! £2.45 for coke £1.95 for a lime & soda! Really?? Total rip off ! I won’t be rushing back anytime soon !

Fish and Chips and a seaview, what more do you need. Personally im not a great fish lover, but even i enjoy the cod i had. The reason being they dont have any skin on their fish, which is a huge plus in my books. So nice was the cod, it gave me the will to try some of my daughters Hake. Which was great too. If I were a local i would definitely visit regularly. Friendly staff, great views and great food. If your sitting outside when the moon is raising their are some lovely photo opportunities.

We are here several times during our stay in Mumbles. Food was good value, well cooked and tasty. Friendly helpful staff. Lovely location on the pier. Indoor and outdoor seating.

Decided after much debate and asking the very friendly waiting staff on ordering the loaded burger with Chilli Option, Well OMG! BEST Chilli Con Carne I have ever tasted poured over and hand made beef burger which was also delicious! Chips came in a mini Champagne cooler tin tub. I ordered the Onion Rings as a side hug portion and VERY VERY Tasty too. I cannot wait to go back.

Awful services!!!! Went for some fish and chips and we had to clear and sort our own seats out. Was given a menu and told they will be with us in a couple of minutes but then got totally ignored for 45 minutes. We usually order through the QR scanner but they didn't show the Korea fries on the menu so the waitress said she'll go and check. We decided to leave as it was starting to get late and kids were getting restless. The food is nice but service is equally important. Really disappointed.

Great place to eat outside in the sun on the pier. My OH had the scampi and I tried the battered Halumi, reasonably priced, tasty and enough chips with it too, all freshly cooked.

On a busy summer evening a family group of eight dined together with a variety of choices from the menu. Adults, children and infant comprised the group. There were the odd kitchen delays with service, but delivery and service from our servers was caring, concerned and friendly. Especially standing out for us were Ffion and Maria who provided excellent service.

Booked for 9 people at 5pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon in July. Classy fish and chips restaurant with lots of extra choices on the menu on Mumbles pier. Food was all excellent and reasonably priced. We had the fish, some of the loaded fries options, battered haloumi and the battered tofu wrapped in seaweed, as well as a selection of seafood starters (cockles, squid, scampi, prawns). Service was quick and friendly. Sat outside overlooking the sea and the view was stunning. They seem to have a variety of entertainment throughout the day, with a singer whilst we were there. Topped of with a short walk on the coastal path, perfect.

Came down to watch the Tom Jones tribute act with some friends. Food was delicious and service was incredible. We were served by an absolutely lovely girl named Meg who made us feel welcome and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night....

Great food, great service! However, the bar staff have a habit of putting their fingers in the glass when picking it up to serve you, very unhygienic, please sort this out.

Decent seafood, very friendly service, our daughter loved our waitress, commenting on her pretty voice! (she had an accent that I assume was European). Only negative is that the toilets could do with a freshen up.

We waited nearly 30 mins for 2 cocktails! if the weather hadn’t been so nice we would’ve demanded a refund! they weren’t even busy, don’t bother, try one of the bars along Mumbles front!!

Fabulous meal at the Copperfish. I really enjoyed the Hake and chips. I must say that the waitress was outstanding she was a marvel how she coped on her own with several tables full and kept a smile on her face at all times. She deserves a medal and some more support.

Used this restaurant first night in Mumbles and was not disappointed. Lovely piece of Haddock and plenty of chips. Staff lovely and service very quick.

Although we are fairly local, we haven't visited Mumbles Pier for a long time. We actually came here on consecutive days as the weather is so nice and it is quite breezy here. Very pleasant. On the first day, we ordered from the takeaway - chips, fish, rissole and sausages. Took them home and they were really good portions, lovely piece of cod and very enjoyable. On the second day, we decided to eat-in, although we did sit at an outside table as we had our doggy with us. We ordered from the QR code on the table and we had scampi (there were loads), Chix & Mushroom Pie (tasted like home made), loaded chips (with chilli con carne and sourcream (delicious)) and a burger and chips. It was all very efficient and we didn't have to wait long for the food to come. Both the takeaway and the eat-in experience was great and the food was lovely and very affordable too. Special mention to the staff who were very professional and ultra-friendly. Well done! Can't praise them enough. I'm not sure if the cafe/ice cream shop is under the same management but I wouldn't be surprised if it was as the team there were equally great and the ice cream was delicious. Even had a doggy ice cream for our pooch. Overall perfect experience all round.

Good quality fish and chips. Location is great near the pier and lifeboat houses. Dining outside is perfect and for sitting down prices very competitive.

Lovely place to stop at eat on Mumbles Pier. The seafood and halloumi were excellent, and the portions were very generous. Beautiful view if you sit outside too.

Sat evening...Cod bites were dry and the batter soggy. Had obviously been cooked some time much earlier. We threw most of them away despite the cost.

Chose from the tapas menu which was delicious, Recommend the halloumi and Camembert. Mojitos were delicious too! Staff were very friendly especially Teagan who was extremely helpful. Lovely meal in a beautiful location.

A large party of us went to Copperfish (pre-booked) this weekend. We had a dog so we were told we had to sit outside (despite the restaurant being mostly empty when we arrived). It was windy and raining and by time the food came out...

Located right on the Mumbles Pier, this is one of the restaurants that seems less frequented than others. Be that as it may, it’s a fine place to go to. Unfortunately, the loo despite being clean was stinking to high heavens when we were there - perhaps this was one of “those” days! At any rate, if the weather holds, you could even sit outside and savour the dishes available. My favourite will be the fish and chips !

It took over 30 min for our drinks order to be taken, after asking staff twice if we had to order at the bar and we’re told no and that they’d be with us in a sec, and when the food arrived, it was alright , not excellent but alright. However I’d advise not to get their “Korean” loaded fries. The “kimchi” that was supposed to be on top tasted like it had gone out of date and made both myself and my friend sick after eating it. We both know what kimchi or pickled cabbage is meant to taste like since it’s part of our culture but that wasn’t it. We were both looking forward to the fries and were left disappointed.
