Only 1 toilet upstairs in function room/bar area, not disabled friendly in access or facilities, poor service due to electrics playing up

Great place, nice competent staff it's a little pricer than your local but it keeps the riff raff out 😂.

We came to bar St James for a couple of drinks and we had such a warm welcome from Jack working behind the bar. He was so friendly. He recommended us cocktails which he made and they were the best cocktails we have ever had! Brilliant service and beautiful drinks! We will definitely be back.

Me and my fiancé came here on a Sunday for a date night and have had a fantastic night and the most delicious cocktails I have ever had. Being a bartender my self I am very critical of my cocktails but I had no faults just exceptional service and amazing cocktails. It felt like a tailored made experience and service just for me and my fiancée. Massive thanks to jack who made our night so special. Definitely recommend Awesome music Perfect vibes and a tailored made service.

Nice place. Although starting to suffer as regulars from Wind Street and the stag and hen nights relocate up to the Uplands.

Nice place in Uplands which is often overlooked. Much more sophisticated vibe than the rest of the surrounding options. My one gripe, foggy wine glasses served with expensive wine.. hmm.

Fantastic service with an excellent manager Liam. It was a very personal event as it was a Wake. throughout the whole process Liam was very kind, empathetic and accommodating to our requests and needs. The staff were incredibly helpful and efficient. It was an excellent venue with great staff.

First time I've been and I attended for an event (we didn't have food). The staff were so friendly and funny and they have a fantastic selection of alcohol free drinks - even alcohol free spirits that I am looking forward to trying. Very pretty venue. I will definitely be back.

Really disappointed with this establishment, me and my friends came here to celebrate a birthday! And one of our card payments didn’t go thought. It happens… and my friends was accused of not paying full stop. Really disappointed with the customer service and won’t be coming here again!

I booked Bar St James for a special birthday celebration. Liam was helpful at every stage and was always available to answer any queries in advance. He also helped us set up balloon displays and catering tables. This venue is quirky and was perfect for this type of celebration. Nicholas, our bar man for the evening was excellent. He was attentive and he and Liam provided a first class service throughout.

The upstairs venue was absolutely perfect for my works summer party, the bar has an amazing atmosphere. Liam was incredibly helpful and did his very best to cater for anything we needed and wanted. We had free reign to decorate the space as we wanted, and hire external caterers, equipment companies etc. to cater for our party. I couldn't recommend enough, thanks Liam for an amazing evening!

Love. This. Bar! It isn't the cheapest but the atmosphere, staff and cocktails (I have strayed onto the beers at times too) are all absolutely amazing!! This is a regular stop for my friends and I on a night out I haven't eaten here so haven't scored that section

I would highly recommend this venue as the staff were friendly, helpful, nothing was too much trouble. We went for a surprise 60th party and accommodated with our requirements. The place had a high standard with everything we needed. It was partially decorated for us but they allowed us to add our decorations to the room.

No food available but a really excellent bar. Great cocktails made by friendly and knowledgeable staff.

I recommend the sangria pitchers, made in front of you to a very tasty and alcoholic recipe. Staff are friendly and chatty.

We came here as our usual drinking hole was so busy. We much preferred this bar. With lots of interesting drinking areas inside and a lovely beer garden outside, we spent a lovely evening in a pleasant and safe environment. The bar girl was extremely helpful and supplied me with what is now one of my favourite wines, Pinot Noir. We were a little cold as one or two of the overhead infra-red heaters weren't working, but this didn't spoil a perfect evening.

Staff very helpful and friendly. Not as expensive as I thought. Lovely seating area out the front. Would recommend 👌

A great venue upstairs for the private party. A good number of spirits to choose from, though I would have more taps available. Shame about the Wi-Fi connection, as many people had regular problems when paying on their cards. Would I go again? Sure! Though, I'd probably stay downstairs!

If I could give it no stars I would. They had no heating on and the place was freezing the staff had been told they could not put the heating it on. Had an amazing experience in a really calm and relaxing bar with an amazing bar lady who made my partners night by creating 4 different cocktails that wasn't even on the menu definitely will be going back again and highly recommended.

Having rung this place about a week earlier to book a table for their tapas food I was told to book the table online . They wanted a £20 deposit to do this , luckily I didn't and thought that we would just turn up as it was going to be a Monday evening that we were staying nearby and hope that it would not be that busy early evening. We arrived to be told that the kitchen had been closed for several weeks!! Why did they not tell me that when I rang to book the table for dinner ?

Lovely outdoor seating, delicious drinks (the piña colada was especially good!), and wonderfully warm under the heated seats. Clean toilets, prompt service. Drinks could be a little cheaper but worth it for the lovely atmosphere.

We booked for tapas and drinks. For a birthday. When we arrived not one member of staff was wearing a mask. We were put to sit under the stairs when I asked if we could move to another table as we were having food and there wasn’t enough room under the stairs! We were told that they don’t do food the kitchen is closed even though it doesn’t say this on the website and we’d specifically booked for drinks and food. Very disappointing!

Made a mistake with similar drinks. Gave us the drinks we ordered and kept the mistaken ones. Highly recommend

Very trendy and fun place with great service.

This was one of my first pub experience during Covid restrictions and I was impressed with the set up at Bar Saint James. It's best to pre-book a table, especially at peak times. We had reserved two tables on the outside terrace area, all tables were separated by a perspex screen to comply with the current rule of 6 persons. It's not possible to go up to the bar and order, instead you can order via the Bar Butlr app. This was very easy, choosing your drinks on the app, entering your table number then purchasing via the app by card, Google Pay our Apple Pay. Your drinks are bright by waiter shortly after. Masks are not needed whilst at your table, but when moving around the pub you must wear one. Bar Saint James is one of the upmarket pubs in Uplands, as such expect to pay a premium for drinks.

Under new ownership and has lost its 5 star hotel type edge and its a shame. It once had outstanding food and drink with toilets you could eat your dinner off. I had no worries taking business clients there for lunch meetings but now it's just another Uplands theme pub.

Love this place! Will definately return when her majestys government allows!

Had a lovely night out at Bar St James one Saturday in October. Lovely staff, great ambience, and Covid regulations followed to the letter of the law. It's a shame more bars in Swansea havent adhered to the rules as well.The building is magnificent and unique, will not see another like it in Swansea in my lifetime I'm sure.

Great little venue, they are very welcoming and do great tapas selection. The drink menu is great. I have visited on a few occasions and also worked from there for a few hours, could use plug sockets and WiFi

My daughtets organised afternoon tea to be delivered for my husband for Fathers Day absolutly delicious as good as if you were visiting The Bar.We have been to Bar St James many times always fab food excellent service nothing to much for staff always wiling to help,they even gave my mum on her 90th Bday a beautiful boquet of flowers when we artived for her Afternoon Tea.Well done to all the staff especially Matt the wondetful chief.

Ordered afternoon tea delivery for my Mum and Dad to celebrate Mum's birthday. They said it was fantastic. Plenty of food, good variety and all appeared to be home made. They are hoping to pay Bar St James a visit once lockdown is over. Would highly recommend. Very reasonably priced too.

Had a surprise delivery for my birthday which was a birthday tea for two with Prosecco. It arrived in three boxes plus with a returnable cake stand and had sandwiches, savouries and cakes, all of which were delicious. There was no information with the delivery as to who it was from or when the cake stand would be collected but it was collected a week later. What a wonderful gift from our friends which would make a good gift for others.

Nice Cocktails but very expensive didnt mind paying extra as it keeps away the riff raff .

Well done boys we visited your fabulous bar yesterday food was lovely and the surroundings very elegant and tasteful. We used to support you at the Kings Head yes from Llandovery Lee and Hollies mum and friends. We will be back

Great atmosphere and an enjoyable place to enjoy drinks

Visited Bar Saint James after a recommendation of a friend. Been for drinks here a few times with friends but never knew that they did food. Came for Roast dinner on Sunday. Probably the best Sunday roast I have ever had in a long time and best in Swansea in my opinion. Will be visiting again and recommending friends and family. Great friendly service from the waitress also. A gem of a place.

There is something about this place that makes you feel like you dont want to be in there. The Prices are so expensive you need to be rich to enter, and the staff laugh at you.

After visiting and enjoying this posh wine bar for a few years now with numerous friends and plenty of money spent... I have to say I think tonight will be my last visit. As beautiful as the place is - we have never had a nod or hello from whomever the manager is - and unfortunately all the bar staff have become degraded in their attire - they are dressed best suited to the student bar up the road- Uplands Tav. If the prices reflected the dress code I would understand. Shame.

Took my grandparents here for my Nans birthday. Amazing food, amazing building & staff were fantastic, especially Yaz who was behind the bar. My nan didnt stop saying how lovley she was. Thank you guys for giving my Nan such a lovley day.

We didn't book and were able to have Sunday lunch without waiting. The waitress was very helpful, pleasant and considerate. The broccoli was cold and she took it back to the kitchen to be changed without issue. Presentation was good, not sure the cauliflower cheese was necessary but that's personal taste. Generally flavoursome. The tables are small for two people having a meal(downstairs). We enjoyed our experience though while I appreciate the food was good quality I'm not sure it warranted the price x

I've been to Bar Saint James for cocktails with work colleagues, for afternoon tea with the girls and for lunch with hubby and friends while watching the six nations. Every visit has been a great experience. Love the decor, why not do something a bit different! The afternoon tea is exceptional as are the cocktails. Staff have always been polite and attentive as well as friendly. Looking forward to going again next Friday for my birthday to try the tapas (and more cocktails of course). During my last visit in December 2019, the bar was busy, the only seat available was a chaise not big enough for 6 of us), but the bartender, Shauna, rallied around and found a small table and a couple of extra stools and brought them to the chaise so we could all sit down. She then personally delivered our cocktails. Nothing was too much trouble.

My first visit for an after lunch drink with friends. Probably about 4pm so it was quiet with plenty of seating. I rather liked the decor if it was a bit bordello like with the flock wallpaper and low lighting. Comfortable seating which was nice. I will say the 2 ladies serving weren't the most engaging with one feeling under the weather - pass your germs on, thank you! However we were busy with our chatting so not an issue. I'll try again sometime to check. Staff attitude is a huge part of any bar.. most important.

Pre-Christmas drink at Bar Saint James was just right. Enjoyed the cocktails, with good bar tender making suggestions as to what to try. Nice pleasant atmosphere. It is worth spending a bit more to have a more exclusive experience in Uplands. Will definitely come back

Booked afternoon tea for five for a birthday celebration. Ended up being served the Christmas tea. We weren’t asked on booking which we wanted. Christmas tea doesn’t have scones only mince pies. Poor selection of sandwiches, pepper and cream cheese, some sought of salmon paste with cucumber and beef with horseradish. Selection of cakes awful, cup cakes with very sweet green icing and chocolate fondant. Many looked bought not home made. Service excellent by the young lady who served us. Asked for scones as didn’t get any. Young lady had to call chef back in to do them for us. Very disappointing when they arrived. Selection of teas good. Nice place. Shame they can’t get something as simple as an afternoon tea right. I would definitely not go back.

Had a very good Sunday Lunch today (tender, slightly pink beef; roast potatoes, parsnips and carrots; cauliflower cheese; broccoli and mange tout; perfect homemade Yorkshire pudding; and rich delicious gravy for £14.95). Good service and lovely cosy room with a fire but if I could I’d knock off 0.5 star for tables that aren’t especially practical for eating (either too high or too low). Was completely empty at 12:30 and we considered not staying, but glad we did as it filled up by 1pm and the food really was excellent!

We had a fantastic afternoon tea here a couple of weeks ago. We had the vegetarian option which included lovely cakes, sandwiches and a selection of teas and coffee. The staff were very friendly and accommodating - 10/10

Myself and my team recently had xmas lunch here . The food was lovely & we had excellent service . Special mention to Lydia C & Yaz . Very disappointed but the lack of Xmas spirit in terms of the decor upstairs. This is the 2nd year we’ve had our Xmas lunch here and have been very disappointed by the lack of effort In terms the decoration of the dining rooms upstairs !! 4 baubles in the window !! I've known Swansea for 50 years. Uplands used to be a smart part of town. It then became overrun by students so went down hill a bit. It's now moving back in the right direction and smartening its act up, and this bar is a welcome addition to the scene. Friendly staff, good choice of drinks and a nice range of small tapas type dishes. All while sitting outside in the glorious Welsh sunshine which, as discerning readers will know, happens rarely so this venue has the Midas touch. Well worth checking out.

Can not big this place up enough!! expensive but worth every penny!! Supreme choice of cocktails, a fully stocked bar with the most amazing variety, in Gin, Rum, Vodka, wines, Champers.The uplands has been crying out for something classy like this for years. Will be returning.

Beautiful building, big outdoor seating area so you can people watch and a food cocktail menu. Can be a little pricey depending on what you order but prices are pretty standard for the area. Friendly staff too. :)

We had a voucher as a present and we were not disappointed.Taken to a quite room upstairs, where the table was laid out just as you would expect.We had a glass of Prosecco to start with, then on to the tea. It came with plentiful sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes and of course scones. Most items were made well, with fresh ingredients. The scones were a little burnt but we had, had more than enough to eat by then.Our young waitress was very professional and polite.Overall a lovely afternoon tea in traditional surroundings.

An upmarket bar serving good food. The atmosphere inside is calm and quiet and there is a lovely pation to the front . We had a selection of starters and we found it very interesting. I will return for a more substantial meal.

It has a lovely patio with large umbrellas where you can have a refreshing drink without getting burnt. With trees also, it is shaded and cool on a hot day.

What a wonderful bar! The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable of their drinks, which is very appriciated to someone who wants to try different things but doesn't have a specific drink in mind. The prices aren't actually that bad for what they offer. A great selection of spitits and wines and some beers and ciders. It's certainly not a student bar as it shuts at 11 (or so it did on Thursday when I went) but I would definitely check it out if you're looking for something interesting. If the weather is nice I also highly recommend sitting outside coz that's where we had a lovely time :)

The outside area is nice and the umbrellas and heat lamps make it pleasant even in bad weather. I find it a bit overpriced and a little bit lacking in atmosphere although the inside has been done out beautifully

We called in here on a Saturday afternoon with the kids as they had a bbq on the terrace. Chilled out atmosphere and food was great. Wide selection of food which tasted amazing. Can't wait to go back.

Attended here for the Saturday bbq with my friends & family! Absolutely highly recommend! Food was absolutely amazing, barbecued to perfection! Hats off to the chef who was in charge- along with ur choice from the bbq was an unlimited free salad bar! Again, outstanding efforts, I couldn’t stop eating. Staff were ever so friendly, reasonably priced. I will definitely be returning and I have recommended to so many people already!!

I've been here a couple of times but today was a bit different. There was a bbq on the terrace witch was really nice. The menu was fab and there was a homemade fresh salad bar included.The staff and chefs were so friendly and helpfull.Will deffinatly be back again.
