Coopers Arms in Carmarthenshire

Had a takeaway roast Sunday dinner while camping locally. Opted for the beef dinner. The food was amazing. 3 large slices of beef which were really tender, a crispy Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes & parsnips, stuffing & veg plus a large pot of gravy each. After eating my fill I reheated the remainder over an open fire for supper later. The beef was still tender & I still didn't eat it all, but my dog licked the foil tray clean and also approved. Great price, great food. I camp at Afon Teifi quite often & will definitely be having this again when camping!

A lovely friendly pub, always very welcoming with excellent service. We always try to drop in when we are in the area.

Four of us enjoyed a meal at the Coopers Arms - the menu was varied and was very tasty with friendly service.

Me and family had a 3 course meal and it was all fantastic. The fillet steak was cooked perfectly, I had previously had a fillet steak in a high rated restaurant in Aberaeron and it was no match to the one I had in the coopers. Well done chef.

Wonderful evening. Food was amazing - never tried swordfish before but that was so delicious! Staff fantastic, friendly and helpful. Desert menu went down very with everyone too! Couldn't recommend the place more :)

visited here this evening me and my husband. Ordered a starter which was lovely. Main meal I ordered a chilli con carne, which I found very dry and bland and could not enjoy. I called our waitress over to let her know, and she took my dish away. Then returned to say the owner had tasted it and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Offered to not charge me for it " BUT REFUSED TO LET ME ORDER SOMETHING ELSE!!!. Disgusting attitude, clearly no customer service skills due not coming to speak to me and getting the poor waitress to be her messenger. Will never recommend this place to anyone.

Stopped here for overnight stay in village and had an excellent meal and drinks in the coopers arms. Food was great and home cooked and really tasty. Staff were so friendly and helpful and welcoming.

Went for a pint in way home from Cardigan nice staff made very welcome happy hour so the pub puts on a little food for customers really nice gesture

We needed a small meal as we'd been grazing throughout our day of cycling. This menu fitted the bill perfectly and we had the most delicious garlic mushrooms and sweet potato fries plus excellent local beer. The staff were lovely, helpful and informative. We suggest a charity box for fining the swearing local with the limited vocabulary!

There's free, limited parking and it is a little way off the town center. Welcome is warm & friendly. We went with a group & those that ordered 'specials' enjoyed their homemade dishes. The steaks & burgers are always well received. We ordered a Sharing Platter (Meat Combo) & we were very disappointed. The presentation was not appealing at all. No garnishes or sauces/dips to accompany the koftas, sate,glazed sausage or king prawns. Just a mayo dip with some seasoning paste stirred through. It needs a lot more added to it, to make it more appealing & making value for money. I felt the offering was lazy !

Grew up in this fantastic friendly welcoming establishment in the 80tees.Dad and Mam had the walls rammed as everybody in village loved them. Great hosts. Keep up the good work all that sail it now....👌

We visited Coopers as a last minute dinner night out. They have a free carpark, but it's limited. The staff were friendly and welcoming. There's a bar when you first walk in and then you'll be asked if you want to eat in the bar area or the restaurant. We chose the restaurant. The menu is very limited. Unfortunately we couldn't eat anything as they do not cater to allergies and only have one veggie option. Which is unfortunate because other people have recommended trying here, so we had to leave and find somewhere else int he area. Hopefully next time we try Coopers they will have updated their menu. They have little area with kids toys to entertain the kids while waiting for food to arrive.

Went to the Coopers Arms tonight for a meal and was really taken back by how friendly and welcoming the staff were. I had the Rib eye steak from the special menu and have to say it was one of the best steaks I have ever eaten out at a restaurant, cooked to perfection. I am a Butcher in London and supply high quality meat which we have won awards for, so definitely know my stuff and all the other meals in our party were great. I would recommend this pub/restaurant.

Tuesday night is steak night.. had the fillet steak cooked rare as requested. It was delicious and a great delight to actually get what is asked for. I had given up eating steak out as it was so often a disappointment. The others in our party had a very tasty homemade chicken curry and the fishcake. My sister and friend had dessert, a Turkish delight brownie and sticky toffee pudding.... Both really enjoyed. We are going back to sample the other special nights. Pizza and a burger night. Relaxed atmosphere with great, friendly service. Thank you.

Today we were with a group of around 25 people for our annual get together , we came last year and we're very impressed with the quality of the meals so we just had to repeat the event this year and we were yet again very impressed .The menu is quite varied and how they manage to get all the 25 or so meals out at the same time is quite amazing it is only a fairly small pub but the dining area is ok for about 30 maximum the staff are really very pleasant and helpful , last year I had the burger and chips with bun and onion rings I actually had trouble finishing it all , because I had ordered a starter so this year I didn't order a starter and I had Chilli and rice as a main meal with a banana split for desert....wow what a banana split it turned out to be 3 scoops of varied ice-cream with cream and syrup I almost felt embarrassed eating it all but I did , speaking to others everybody was more than happy with the meals so it looks as though we'll be back next year again ....just wish I could uplift the pub to Bridgend then we could eat out every week. One of the best eating out meals I've had for a long time ....Go you won't be disappointed .

Good choice of food. Cosy atmosphere. Very clean and tidy with a nice resteraunt. Really is worth a visit.

Had lunch at the pub on Christmas Eve to celebrate a family birthday , the atmosphere was lovely with a log burning fire, the bitter was excellent and the food was pretty good too. But the service and friendliness of the staff was what made the trip

this is my second visit to the Coopers and it wont be my last . fantastic food , some businesses in the area could take a leaf out of the coopers book on how to serve a stunning buffet , lots of variety and not second guessing us vegetarians, Very impressed especially with the vegetarian scotch egg . Great pub spotlessly clean . thanks for a great evening

We stopped off at the Coopers Arms on the way back to our holiday cottage. We had a hunters/BBQ chicken and a cheese and leek quiche, both were excellent and we had no trouble getting a table for 2 on a Thursday evening.

We popped for a meal in the Coopers Arms last week! A lovely clean and approachable pub with friendly staff. The food was delicious. Overall a great food stop with the kids.

Trouble with prebooking as no one was answering the phone! Called in on the day to book and nobody in the pub! No staff even? Very rude and abrupt lady took my booking of a table of 9, eventually, felt as if it was a total burden! Was told to be on time as it was a busy evening!

We stopped for a meal and were pleasantly surprised, friendly welcome and selected a meal. Short wait and two burgers meals arrived - one meat and one fish. Both were accompanied with a large portion of fries with dips. The meat one was very tasty and the fish was arranged on tartare sauce and salad (not just a lettuce leaf) and was delicious.

Called on the off chance and had table for four. Very clean airy place. Excellent meal served by friendly staff. Diolch yn fawr am fwyd blasus!

Iba me sorprendió ver una gran habitación bien ventilada. Había un par de juegos de mesa que mantuvo entretenidos a los niños mientras pedimos y tomamos una copa bastante antes de la cena. El menú es bastante limitada y es muy difícil encontrar nada pesan avistamiento amable (dicho esto, la App no funcionaba. . . Así que supongo que todo. Era cero puntos todos ordenados diferentes alimentos, mi yerno es todavía diciéndole a todo el mundo lo delicioso de su hamburguesa y lo que no se ha podido obtener a través de ella tenía una crujiente ensalada Bowl. Oh mi palabra era precioso mi hija tenía pescado y patatas fritas y la pizza, patatas fritas de niños y frijoles. Llamamos a la oportunidad y tenía la ventaja de la comida de los niños eran gratis (sábado hasta las 9 de la noche) La camarera era muy encantador y los niños disfrutaron de la zona de juegos al aire libre después de la cena. Elegimos esta simplemente porque estábamos en la zona, y fue genial! El personal era amable, aunque se llenaba. Ellos también llegaron a nuestra mesa para tomar nuestro pedido, que fue una gran sorpresa. También había juegos para jugar mientras esperamos para nuestra comida, lo cual fue genial ya que teníamos un hijo de 6 años con nosotros. Sin duda regresaría.

Called in mid afternoon guessing it would be a quiet time. In fact we were the only customers but felt as though we were intruding. No real welcome. The food was mediocre.

Great little pub with lovely staff, very friendly, food was brill, huge portions and very reasonably priced,would definitely visit again when in Newcastle Emlyn!!!

Food was mixed, wife had a curry, homemade and very tasty which she enjoyed, I had a steak which was on the tough side, the chips were dry. The local real beer was out which was another disappointment

Fuimos con un 'no funciona'. Tuve el parmesano y jamón de pollo. No pedimos patatas y la placa no deficiente. Fue muy agradable. Brownie de chocolate y crema para el pud, también muy bonito. Todo limpio, bonito entorno y servicio agradable. 12 Todo servido rápidamente y sin esperas (reservado y ordenados).

Excelente comida de menú navidad, personal muy amable que era genial para mi hijo de 4 años, nada era demasiado problema para el personal, agradable área aparte para los niños, siempre van a la Coopers cuando mi familia venga a visitar desde Escocia como les...

Tuvimos una comida increíble en los brazos coopers. Tuve hongos y espinacas lasaña y AH un bistec. Ambos eran, nos pareció excepcional y servido con patatas fritas igualmente maravilloso y muy caliente. La mejor comida para un largo tiempo. Ojalá que era nuestro local!

Called in for a quick pint on the way to the centre and found this place to be clean and tidy, quite modern and served a fine selection of Real ale, Larger and other drinks.10 minutes from the centre of Newcastle Emlyn it is in a great location and has seating outside. Staff are very friendly and welcomed myself and my friend straight away.

Came here with my partner (who is in a wheelchair) and they could not have been more helpful!! Moving the area around to be more comfortable and ensuring we happy at all times! The food we had was amazing!!! And priced perfectly! Great selection of drink and delicious ice cream puddings!! Will definitely be returning!! Thank you

We asked for an early evening meal which the owners were willing to provide. Although a limited menu we were able to find something we wanted. the food was well cooked and presented well. The staff were helpful

Service was friendly but the food was mediocre. It's basically the same standard of food you would get from a cafe but at restaurant prices. Also there was music playing very loudly in the bar area which was right next to the eating area. Not a good idea to have a disco in the bar when people are eating in the restaurant.Wouldn't go back there to eat to be honest.

Had not planned to go out, but on a whim we decided to nip up the road and try out the coopers. There was only one other table other than ourselves, but it was Tuesday evening in a quiet market town. We had starters of jacket potato skins and the garlic mushrroms, portions were big enough to satisfy but not too big to detract from the mains. The sea bass served up for myself was accompanied by a very generous serving of sweet potato chips (perfectly cooked) and a pleasant side salad. My wife had gammon egg and chips (with both egg and pineapple), the gammon was huge, and again very well cooked. We skipped the puddings as we were both full, but we will almost certainly be returning in the near future as this is an unpretentious eatery serving good quality food at a very good price.

Excellent food and a great selection to drink. With its own car park. And benches in the sun. Job done.

We wanted an early evening meal for 4 adults and 4 under children after a long day at the beach. The staff were v friendly, the menu was perfect for our needs including special dietary requirements and the food was good pub grub. The meals came promptly and were of good portion size. A bonus was the lego for the kids to play with whilst we waited and the nice local ale for the adults!

We ( 4 of us) arrived on spec at 2.00 on a midweek afternoon. Staff could not have been more helpful and the food (quiche, tempura prawns, gammon and cod) was great pub food. One of our group fancied a starter as a main course and this was no problem, it was served as a larger portion with sides.. Service was friendly and efficient with a very reasonable bill. We spend a bit of time in this area and will definitely call again.

visited this place twice, i should have learnt from my first experience. on the outside it looked good and traditional. on the inside, very new, clean and clinical. The place was empty, but was informed 'there was a lot of bookings', service was ok, but the menu looked 'adventures', but then i realised it was the same menu from the local hospital! presentation 8/10, content 1/10. on the 2nd visit, was told the same thing about the bookings, but i was bold and brave enough to request an onion and cheese omelet, there were sparks and over load information, and was told 'there is no time' flexibility and lateral thinking are not on the menu, its probably welsh for CBA= can't be asked!

Arranged a small group of us to meet for someone's birthday. It was a good night, good service with a smile. Food came quickly and everyone enjoyed their meal, the bean burger was especially good as was the steak that our birthday boy had, the rest had a nice chilli half and half, goulash with rice and gammon chips with the trimmings. Price was reasonable. The sweet's some of us felt were limited in choice but good, the ice cream's we felt had been left in the freezer a while and was hard to eat but fair enough although we did not complain the waitress said we did not have to pay which we thought was really nice of them. The chocolate pud and spotted dick was good though. Bar choice was good. The place is very clean and had a modern yet cosy feel about it. All in all recommended for a informal night out with friends or just a quick meal with a friend. Hope to go again soon.

We are on holiday in Newcastle Emlyn and found this place to eat on trip advisor. Had a nice meal, my ham was beautiful. Only negative was the ice cream sundae was icy. Plus the post code on trip advisor is incorrect, almost drove to a different village via sat nav.

A little bit off the beaten track, this place serves nice pub food, nothing too fancy and very reasonable. It's a funny layout with a bar/lounge area as you walk in, with a separate restaurant area at the front. We ate here on a Saturday night and were the only diners at 8.30, although it had been busier earlier on. All in all a very nice pub meal.

Coopers Arms is a family run business in the neat market town of Newcastle Emlyn. The food is well prepared and cooked by the proprietor and can be eaten in bar area or clean and bright restaurant. Beers are good and special deals are featured regularly. In winter months you will find a large fire blazing near the bar. Meals are varied including various steaks and excellent fajitas. Friday nights have deals and are especially lively.

We turned up at about 5 past 9 but were still accomodated and made to feel very welcome. There was a good choice on the menu and the food and service alike were great.

Happened to go here by chance, so glad we did, delicious food and large portions, very friendly and welcoming staff.

We were staying near to Newcastle emlyn last week and decided to go to the coopers arms. We tapped in the sat nav to get to you and ended up miles and miles away in the opposite direction. Frantically searching for a post code on any website that related to you I discovered SA399BX was WRONG it is SA389BX. By the time I rectified the problem we had lost our appetite to sit and eat any food and went to bed on a bag of crisps!! I just want to alert you as you have no post code on your face book page and no web site of your own and basically you are missing out, and I was looking forward to a juicy perfect fillet steak!!

An excellent meal which was made really special due to the welcome of the staff. I had steak which was really tender, my partner had the gammon followed by sticky toffee pudding. The price was very reasonable and certainly value for money. We also bought one of their takeaway pizza for our teenage daughter who is gluten free which was fantastic! The place is clean, tidy and certainly one of the best I have visited recently.

My favourite place to eat in Newcastle Emlyn. We had a delicious meal of fillet steak with all the trimmings that was cooked to perfection. The service was exellent and nothing was too much trouble will definately be visiting again.

We stumbled upon Coopers Arms whilst getting a little lost on our way to New Quay. At the time we were looking for a quick bite and to find a quaint pub like this was great. We only ordered a sharing platter, which was fairly price and perfect for what we were looking for. Will visit again if ever in the area.

I booked the Coopers Arms through Beth for a surprise hen party. I booked this quite early on in the year and communication was excellent. Beth could not do enough to ensure a hen party success, even down to ordering in an amazing live singer (which we loved!). The table was dressed for the hen (see pics) and we were given 2 bottles of fizz and the most amazing 'trifle shots' on the house!Massive thanks to Beth for all she did leading up to and during our evening. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The food was fab (I'm craving more Camembert), came out fast, hot and really scrummy! The atmosphere was great and everyone was made to feel so welcome by all in the pub, the ladies behind the bar were brill. The music was right up our street - Adam and Donna were brilliant and I don't think we've danced like that since we were 12! Everyone needs a Coopers Arms nearby...On behalf of all the hens, thank you, thank you, thank you! Jo

We are staying in a holiday home just down the road from the pub so we thought we would try it out! 8 of us went down for dinner on the tuesday and we were all back again for dinner on Wednesday! Lovely food, lovely pub/restaraunt and lovely staff!! Would definitely recommend this pub to anyone for food or drinks! Best food in newcastle emlyn!

Clean, tidy, friendly, good food, good value, good beer, friendly welcome. What more do you want? We were going to go into Town but this place was so nice, we stayed.

Called in late for a drink and food with a good friend. We were the only one's in there which was a shame because the food was good value and this place should of been rammed on a Friday night. Nice & friendly. Recommended. Will visit again.

I am not a foodie, or profess to be an expert, what I do know is what I like, when I receive good service, and somewhere that needs reccommending. Considering the pub is at the bottom of our road, Im ashamed to say this is the first time we've been. Fantastic portions, reasonable prices, and the two dishes we had marked as homemade (quiche and lasagne) were very tasty

Really good value,generous portions and friendly service.They have special offers on different nights of the week eg: 2 4 1 or drink included in meal price.The restaurant side isn't that big but would be fun if you were in a party.

I had a meal and night out in the coopers arms back in the summer and was very impressed . I now consider this pub to my local even though I live five miles away. I have now eaten there about twenty times and always had a fantastic meal and enjoyed excellent friendly service. Great home cooked food and good times.

Its so nice to have a local pub that serves good food at a great price. Love to visit this place when I'm back for the weekend, and it makes such a change from the busy Cardiff bars to chat to the friendly staff and enjoy some homecooked food and a bottle of red. Am looking forward to visiting again soon.

This pub/restaurant is well kit-ed up for family's, with play area inside and out. Its clean and tidy and although small has everything you would expect.The atmosphere was dead and the staff looked like they'd had a long night than they weren't quite over. Two all day breakfasts and scrambled egg on toast for the kids. What could go wrong?. Staff were friendly and happy to split a meal for the kids. a few moments in and we are asked "is every thing ok?" where do I start.. it would have been to embarrassing for both parties to discuss at length the great number of issues I had with what must be one of the worlds simplest dishes; so I grinned and nodded gratefully whilst chewing some cold gristly sausage. This restaurant would benefit greatly from employing a chef!prices were about right not much change from £30will be avoiding in the future

Went here for evening meal whilst on holiday on 7th August. Needed a place that would cater for 10 + child + little dog to celebrate daughters birthday. We had a great evening and the staff even put up baloons and birthday banner. This was also the last night of our holiday in Pembrokeshire and it could not have been better. This pub had a wide sit down restaurant menu. We had superb and generously proportioned starters and mains, of really excellent quality. Service was by the family and absolutely delightful. A really enjoyable meal and evening.

We were staying in Newcastle Emlyn for three nights recently, as The Coopers Arms offered Tastecard we thought we'd drive down and try it, if the food was good we'd have been there for three nights... Because the phone signal wasn't good we weren't able to phone so called in and explained the problem, the response was less than hospitable... "you know the rules, you have to phone" After a fruitless and frustrating exchange, we ended up with it being ok if we went outside and phoned a minimum of half an hour before wanting to eat... We went to a great place in nearby Cenarth (The Three Horseshoes) for all three nights and it was great.... Moral of the story, be flexible occasionally it pays.... ps: there was only a handful of people in there when we called in....

We visited here for an evening meal during our stay in Cardigan and although the staff were very friendly, and the place was clean and tidy, there was nothing exceptional about the food to be honest. My husband ordered the traditional Welsh dish of Cawl, and it was lumps of meat and bland veggies swimming in dishwater, it was completely tasteless. I ordered the Pate and that was actually very nice! - Our main meals were sirloin steaks with all the trimmings - only there were very little 'trimmings', it was steak chips and peas, although the steak was a good size and cooked exactly how we'd asked, the chips tasted refried, and the peas were very overcooked.I think the place lacks 'attention to detail' - it felt like a High Street cafe that had been added onto the side of a pub (a flashing neon ''open'' sign in the window added to the cheap cafe feel) - maybe that's why there were only 3 other customers in? If they tried a little harder with presentation and ambience, I think it could be much better, but friendliness was faultless. We used our discount tastecard which halved our bill, I would have been loath to pay the full price for what we had.

Went for Sunday lunch and was disappointed with what we were given. Vegetables good but meat dried out with no flavour. Decor fine service friendly but will not be going back anytime soon

We stopped in for a drink and lunch with our 1 year old daughter. The staff were really friendly and accommodating. They were especially friendly with our little girl and made us feel completely welcome.

A beautiful setting, warm welcome, lovely food and plenty of it. A really relaxed atmosphere, as a family of four we visited Newcastle Emlyn for the weekend, had lunch on Saturday and Sunday here, nothing is too much trouble

We had been to the Coopers many times a few years ago before it became Ludo's and had always enjoyed the food so were looking forward to going back last Saturday (14/09/13).We were not dissapointed. The melted Camembert starter for two was excellent value and delicious. I might have had a better Sirloin steak in the past but I really can't remember when or where. It was really thick and cooked to perfection. Prices were also very reasonable. I recommend this pub to anyone looking for great food at very reasonable prices. The new decor has been done really well and it gives the pub a classy look.can't wait to go back.

we were in the area, and we saw the coopers arms. we decided to call for lunch, clean, tidy and nicely decorated. pleasant friendly staff, we ordered soup (mushroom) homemade, cheese & leek quiche warm with a lovely salad, cheese & ham baguette and a child's fish fingers and chips you could have peas or beans but as our son doesn't like either she did him some sweetcorn. was going to sit outside but we were plagued by wasps so back inside we went. we had 2 fruit crumbles to follow also homemade. a nice place to have lunch and very reasonably priced.

We had lovely food, made welcome by the staff, a nice relaxed pub/ restaurant. The kids loved the out side play area, will visit again.
