Coop Kitchen at The Ship in Mendip

Ordered takeaway for 6.45, arrived at 6.45 and told it would be a couple of minutes which is fine. 15 minutes later I’m still waiting and someone tells me it’s almost ready.. another 5 minutes later the original waitress states that she didn’t pass on the message that I had arrived because she was so busy…! Food then came out after another few mins.. total of 25 mins wait after my confirmed collection time. Stood waiting at the food bar so it’s not like I could have been forgotten, but clearly was! Appalling service. Why state a collection time if you can’t meet that order? Food was good but I expect to be able to collect at the time stated when ordering. Felt like I was a nuisance and was forgotten about even though stood in plain sight. Awful service, this experience has put me off ordering or coming in again.

The place itself was lovely however our food took over an hour to come. We had 3 portions of the buffalo tenders and one came dry and was so hard to chew. The portion sizes were very small for the price especially the Christmas chips. The burgers were lovely however we’re expecting salad on the side or a small portion of chips for £14. The hallomi bites were 1010 and the staff were lovely and friendly just a shame the tenders let it down. Don’t think we will be retuning.

Probably the best place to eat in Frome, great food and great value

Amazing food, lovely cocktails, decent speed. Only issue was the service - most were lovely if a little bit aloof, however the young man/teenager was very rude and clearly didn’t want to be there.

Food was amazing! Split the Korean and PBK with my partner, both were delicious and huge! Lots of great options on the menu, including a wide range of different fries and sides. One of our party has a dairy and egg intolerance, and he was well catered for as well. Staff were very welcoming, and the service was prompt. Would definitely come again!

Super friendly staff, friendly customers, dog friendly, food is out of this world.

Unexpected pleasure for a Sunday lunch with dogs. It's probably crowded later looking at the number of reservations . The simple menu was full of variations on burgers, dirty fries and chicken. All relatively done.

We went to Coop a few months ago and had a great experience so we decided to come again. However, this time we had just ordered our food and were sat enjoying it when we were approached by a member of staff who demanded ‘the smell must go’ to which we replied utterly confused with what she was on about when we were then accused of having drugs on us! There were other tables with older customers on who were not accused, only us, which I can only assume was because we were younger customers. I really don’t recommend coming here unless you want to be talked down to and made to feel really uncomfortable or unless you’re over the age of 40 and then won’t be accused of such things. Overall a terrible experience with very rude staff.

Decent pub dude-food served quickly when it was busy. Order drinks and food by app if you don't want to leave your seat. Loads of uncovered outside space. Vegan options a plenty and craft beers.

We were only in town for the night and decided a kids friendly dinner would be best. Food was terrific staff friendly and welcoming kids had a great time and empty plates all round. I wish we lived closer. The chilli cheese fries are the best ever! 👏👏

Enjoyed a super-succulent burger... and had slight envy over someone elses Korean fries (have to give them a go next time). QR code ordering system worked very smoothly and service was quick, efficient and friendly - even for our largish, slightly dithery group. Menu is heavily burger-based, but none the worse for that - I would happily return to try some of the other options (blue cheese next, I think... with some of those Korean fries!). Decent value for money and laid-back, but still buzzy atmosphere - especially in the sunny garden.

Lovely food! glad I came with a local as not very clear signage and you had to ask for a menu which are kept underneath the bar! I feel there could be better description on the Menu as even the special house sauce is quite spicy! Tater tots are amazing. Staff where very attentive and happy to help and spend time helping :) very nice evening in a lovely atmosphere !

If you pass by Frome, this pub is a must-try! The burgers are delicious. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff is friendly. If you love burgers, you should stop by!

Just the best, as always. The venue is superb and the food is second to none. Quite simply the best burgers I've had. Came here for a Father's Day treat and is did not disappoint once again!

Smart bar and restaurant serving food. Fantastic beer garden at the rear of the pub. Reasonable prices and a good vibe. Would be happy to visit again.

Buzzy pub with decent beer and extensive burger and wings menu (plenty for vegetarians and vegans too). Most of our food was nothing special, unfortunately, and a little expensive for what it is. The Animal burger's patties seemed about Macdonald's level, and the fish and vegan specials were also a little disappointing. Not *bad* - just a bit of a letdown. The spicy Korean chicken burger was good though. Service was quite slow, although the place was busy on monthly market day so maybe to be expected.

Always tasty food with a lot of care and attention to the details. Perhaps some of the burgers are slightly 'over sauced' and can be overpowering to the rest of the dish. The frickles however are a must-have.

A great go-to if you're feeling hungry for a dirty burger and fries. Great pub for a few drinks with friends and family as well. A friend from Oklahoma visited so I took him here and it seems Coop got the official seal of approval for the Oklahoma burger. Only downside was that the main entrance door kept slamming shut when people were coming and going.

Great little place I wasn't impressed with the burger I was looking forward to it didn't even come with chips but for the price it should have done. I went to a pub called the bath arms around the corner and that is on another league. The burger was outstanding and even came with chips!!! 🤪 The staff however are amazing and I enjoyed the atmosphere I'll go again but I won't be eating there it's just not worth the money sorry for the negativity but just being honest

Mixed feelings! Booked a table but there wasn’t a table reserved when we got there. Enjoyed the food but it took almost 2 hours to arrive due to the order not reaching the kitchen. To be fair the situation was dealt with professionally and we were offered free drinks, but it was frustrating. The atmosphere was very lively, but the service was a bit chaotic, so maybe better for drinks rather than dining.

We ate here on a busy Saturday night before a gig in Frome. The staff were friendly and the wait for food ( about 45 mins) was advised and reasonable given the pub was packed with tables eating.There was a large choice with plentiful veggie and vegan options for non meat eaters like my husband. We enjoyed our burgers and sides very much though I felt the sides could have been just a little more generous. Will definitely return for more. Please dont change!

Food Hygiene Rating of 2 as of August 2023 and they have fraudulently put a 5 star rating in the window. Do not eat here if you want to avoid food poisoning.

Long wait for a couple of burgers

Food took over an hour to come and then it was uncooked - bloody chicken burger. Apologised and offered us drinks on the house but then included them anyway, and lied to us when we challenged it. Not coming here again.

I ate at the coop restaurant which is separate and at the back of the pub. Fantastic vegan offering - super tasting food. The Korean vegan wings were unbelievably tasty and the vegan burger with peanut butter in was delicious. Super friendly staff, felt very welcomed even though eating solo. Dog friendly. Recommended

Always fantastic food & service. Atmosphere is absolutely lovely, staff are always super friendly. The only complaint I have is that the disabled toilet is very much not up to scratch, the lock is broken, there is no hand dryer and no emergency pull cord.

Great selection of drinks, friendly staff. Pub was clean, nice wood burning stove and selection of games to play. We didn’t eat here but the food looked amazing.

Haven't eaten here yet but atmosphere is great and the selection of drinks is brilliant. Particularly good is the Bourbons and Real Ale. Also they have exclusive organic orange and English wines. Service is top notch

I will need to visit again, for two reasons. 1. Thought I'd get a taste of the raw goods by ordering a simple double cheeseburger. Now I've established that the underlying flavour and quality is good (plenty of flavour, buns not too soft, and not too dry that they break apart halfway through) I now need to try how the excellent burger is finessed, and every variation sounds delicious, 2. Had the Korean loaded fries. It reminded me of the delicious KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) I've had before, that, more sour than sweet, Korean barbecue sauce with a slight sweetening from the flavour of sesame seeds completed by a slight chilli sting. Now I need to try the whole menu!

It was very cold inside! (Actually freezing) and most of our table sat with their coats on, service was slow and they had forgot 3 of our meals in which we then had to wait another 10 minutes and the rest of our food got cold. No one ask how our food was during our time. Food was ok but not presented how the social media images look.

A nice experience overall and nice, clean, and tidy environment. I had a double cheeseburger and loaded fries. It was a decent size, but it took almost an hour to get served that was a bit frustrating.

There was a lot of staff but nobody was in a hurry to serve, when we did get served we tried to pay with cash but they had no change! The menu is bland mostly burgers and to top it all after 2 pints they ran out of beer, so our party left to go elsewhere.

Very good food. A bit pricey but actually I don't mind that when the food is really good. I had a fantastic burger with peanut butter in it. It was absolutely delicious. My husband had a Korean chicken burger, which he said was also fantastic. We had fries and deep-fried gherkins to share. It was plenty of food for two. Looking forward to going back again.

Pretty good, lots of outdoor seating and decent atmosphere. Confused as to why there were loads of staff hanging around doing nothing when there were quite a few people at the bar waiting to be served.

We came here as a group of 6 adults and 2 children with no booking on a Saturday evening and the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating. Despite being fully booked they found us a nice big table that we could use for a bite to eat - the food was incredible! Service was super friendly and we had a great time.

Food did not dissapoint. Wings were delicious as well as the chips but the burger was unreal! Next time I'm in Frome I will make sure to visit.

Great local pub and now do the famous local griffin burgers. Highly recommend. I purchased buffalo burger and fries with a pint £20.

Decent. Burgers are always overdone IMO but the portions are large and there's a good selection of craft beers on offer.

Food was amazing! Had the dirty fries, korean chicken burger and some buffalo tenders. Really well prepared exceptional flavour and texture and came out in good time. The sesame mayo on the burger in particular was god tier! Not a fan of the baskets, though. Service was fine, bartenders were really freindky and helpful, but the chap who brought our food out was very flustered and transactional. Drinks were modestly priced (£8 for a pint of Guinness and a half an Inch's cider) and really nice. This is absolutely the best food of this kind in Frome. Nowhere else comes close!

Had a superb evening at The Griffin last night. The food was excellent. I had the double vegan cheeseburger, and my friend had the buttermilk halloumi burger. Delicious! Easy to order and even though the place was pretty full, we didn't have to wait long. A group of folk musicians were downstairs jamming away, and the great sounds drifted upstairs. We finished off the evening with a last drink downstairs listening and chatting to the various characters playing their excellent music. .... have now tried the food after the move to The Ship, and it is equally as good quality with superb service. Unfortunately, the ambience and clientele have deteriorated markedly from the Griffin.... hopefully, that may improve.

Left feeling a tad hornswaggled as i parted with 5 and a half squid for a pint. Inflation, innit? Still, this freshly careened vessel is otherwise shipshape and Frome (not Bristol) fashion, etc.

This is a great place to eat and drink,great food and drinks served to you by the nicest friendliest girls you could wish to meet,all smiles and helpfulness,we had the home made burgers, excellent choice,we will be returning soon.

We were in Frome visiting friends who told us that the food at The Griffin was incredible. They'd built it up quite a bit so I was actually ready to be disappointed...but it really was fantastic. As a vegetarian I was so pleasantly surprised by the number of options for me! I went for the buffalo seitan burger which was delicious! All 5 members of our group thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Visited Frome for a concert in the town. We were recommended to The Griffin by a member of the public. What a great recommendation it turned out to be! As we hadn’t booked, we sat outside, not ideal at this time of year, but at least it wasn’t raining! The staff were quick, attentive, and helpful with making changes to the advertised menus. Probably the best burger I’ve ever had! A nice selection of ales too, and all at a reasonable price. Highly recommend, but best to book in advance. Will certainly use again if I visit Frome again. Excellent!👍
