Constable Park Coffee House in Babergh

Beautiful location so a shame to be met with unwelcoming staff at the cafe. Food was ok, coffee was nice but was made to feel a nuisance and didn’t see any service with a smile. I don’t think we’ll be returning and will enjoy the views around the cafes in manningtree instead.

Another very enjoyable hour or so at this venue. Close to our home and our kids' houses, this is an ideal meeting point. Great service and food at a reasonable price makes this a perfect place. Today I had the sausage and mash - perfect!

We visited bank holiday weekend and Constable Park did not disappoint. We stayed in Goose Cabin. Comfy bed, double sized bunk beds which the kids loved and everything we needed in regards to equipment in the kitchen. We enjoyed pizza the 1st night in the coffee house (sorry didn't take pics) but quick efficient service and hot pizzas definitely hit the spot. We ventured out on one day due to rain but was blessed with sunshine the following day so we could paddle and enjoy the river. We took our own equipment so cannot comment on the hire equipment available but there seemed to be plenty available. The private launch area for those staying over was a bonus and the outside space at the cabin was great when we returned with our kit to dry it all off (after washing it down at the main area). Our experience of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Coffee was great (I love coffee) and the bubble waffles and chocolate cake definitely was enjoyed by the kids. Would we return.... absolutely! Thank you Ian and Sarah, you have created a little gem at Constable Park. X

We booked a lodge for a weekend to celebrate my son's 18th birthday. We cannot fault the friendly staff. So helpful. The food was great and the kayaking and paddle boarding was perfect for us. Would definitely book again. Many thanks for the weekend.

Food was nice, setting was nice. Waitress couldn’t crack a smile taking the order and basically plonked our drinks on the table. However the younger lady on the till was very friendly, polite and nice when we bought some cakes to take out.

We just came back from the best glamping experience with 6 other families at Constable Park over the weekend. The glamping tents had everything we needed for our stay and even had extension sockets to charge our phones and electrical blankets to keep us toasty overnight. The showers and toilets were well-maintained and clean. I was impressed with the showers which were hot and more powerful than other camping sites I've been to. Our friends were able to launch their paddle boards and kayak while others hired equipment easily. The children were delighted with the ducks who greeted them in the morning and we had lots of fun cooking up our bbqs, playing rounders and toasting marshmallows around the campfire. It was a very relaxed atmosphere and perfect for our group with young children. A few of our friends hired the cabins which looked lovely and cosy. Thank you Ian, Sarah and Grace for welcoming us and making our stay a memorable one! We will be back!

Nice setting but I would not recommend at all.afternoon tea was served on a wooden board(!) and we were told we only get one hot drink which wasn't a very big cup either. The food was OK but we did not get seen by a member of staff at any other point during our visit-every other restaurant /cafe that I have ever visited,has always asked if the food is OK and would we like anything else( basic hospitality) .such a shame as it could have been a much nicer experience.

Nice food & beautiful setting. I’ve been coming here since it opened and although the staff are often a little sullen and aloof, it hadn’t put me off coming. Today staff were incredibly rude and I won’t be returning. If you’re looking for a warm reception, I’d head to one of the cafes in Manningtree.

Gorgeous BLT bagel.Helpful quick service. However it was quite noisy because of being busy which is understandable but to have loud music on top was uncomfortable. Lovely location that doesn't need to get spoiled by loud music.

Lovely peaceful location. Friendly attentive staff. Lunch was freshly prepared and tasty, though the menu is limited and the dishes not too imaginative. Coffee was good. There's also an ice-cream kiosk a few metres away on the same site which serves Kelly's (a good thing).

This was my third visit - the first one was average (breakfast) second was afternoon tea (amazing) and then this time we went for lunch. It was fairly quiet so plenty of tables but after a long walk we wanted to sit outside. The menu is quite limited and feels heavy vegan / veggie but we got the chicken fajitas to share. The portion size was really good and the food was excellent. Staff were attentive and checked on us regularly. Will definitely return.

Not dog friendly so we had to sit outside under cover in the cold 9C with no heat available apart from a heap of damp blankets left out. Most expensive breakfast I have had at over £14.00 but the bacon was like a plastic strip, sausages very good as was the table service.

Have been before and it was lovely! However this time not so, food was very cold so had to be sent back. Waitress was very understanding and apologetic, but sadly even after sending this back it wasn’t the warmest. Even after the discount they gave us, it was still expensive for the experience we had. Couldn’t fault the out of front staff with how the staff dealt with this, so will definitely be back to give it another try.

Such a lovely location, which is what attracted us to the venue. As we entered the restaurant, there was no friendly welcome, just "do you have a reservation?". Everyone else who entered after us, got nicely greeted and offered a table rather than being asked if they had a reservation. It felt like they didn't want us there from the outset. We sat down and ordered food. The blonde waitress with oversized glasses, seemed as though she was being continuously sarcastic with her comments throughout our time there, unfortunately making it one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences we've had. We left as soon as we'd eaten. Sadly, we will not be returning.

This spot is a fab find in a perfect river location. Very friendly staff and lovely food. Great choice on the menu and amazing choice of cakes. The paddleboard hire on site is great too and you can top it all off with an ice cream in a deck chair!

Oh my goodness, what a wonderful find!! Was driving passed to go to Manningtree and spotted the sign for coffee. Absolutely beautiful setting right on the river. We were a group of 7 elderly ladies with walkers and buggies. One of the ladies came out of the cafe to the car park and actually helped disembark us! She then lead us to a table which she had organised someone to do so that we could sit together. The lady could not have been more helpful and lovely. The restaurant inside was beautifully decorated, stunning - it was a shame we were only there for coffee. Will definitely be back. Thank you!

Fabulous paddle from the kayak rental next door. Wonderful way to work up an appetite. Raspberry iced tea and smoked salmon bagels hit the spot. Attentive, friendly staff. Perfect spot on the river.

Love this place. Both the coffee house and water sports are fantastic. Found this place a while back and used the coffee house on many occasions before eventually trying out the water sports for my boys. Food is lovely and always of a high standard and choices to suit all. Home made cakes are delicious and slices are always generous in size! Vast selection of drinks available to suit all. My boys had a paddle boarding lesson a few weeks back with grace. Lovely member of staff who related well with the boys helping them along the way. This was a good idea as it got them familiar with the paddle board teaching them how to use them safely, and helping them to gain confidence on the water before venturing out on their own. They have since been every week and are loving being out on the water gaining more and more confidence every time. Members of staff are all lovely both in the coffee house and water sports and are always willing to help with a smile😃 Amazing views 😃 Highly recommended 😃 will continue to come back for more 😃

booked for 11am as was staying on site hadnt seen breakfast finished at 11 got there 5 too met by a lady ejo said breakfast finishes at 11 yourl have to be quick we said ohh sorry wel have 2 breakfasts she replied sit down il come to you she took over 5 mins then said breafasts finished rudely i said i feel your a bit rude she well well my names lorraine im the supervisor so we left wouldnt go there again

Lovely place to go for a coffee.. We have been here a few times now and have always enjoyed the service and food and drink...lovely views and very clean..would highly recommend a visit.

Best veggie breakfast I have had in a long time! Absolutely delicious, beautiful location and loviest staff. Love the options also for alternative milks. Can’t wait to return!

Forget the coffee - I highly recommend anybody considering paddle boarding to sign up for “Top Tips” Thank you for a really amazing 2 hour paddle boarding lesson and a guided excursion today with Jack. (All for £35!) He helped guide me through and built my confidence until I could eventually stand up, 🤜🏻 he also helped to teach us how to self rescue when out of our depths, something everybody who gets on a paddle board needs to know - trust me it’s much harder than it looks and it’s so easy to panic. I feel so much more confident now, and cannot wait to have another class, before you try paddle boarding please do this class, it is only £35, you paddle along one of the most beautiful sections of river around here filled with fish, and most importantly it could well save your life one day. Thank you Jack and to the wonderful team at constable park. Me and my brother cannot thank you enough. 10/10 — feeling fantastic at Constable Park.

We camped at the the site. Ian and Sarah were so accommodating. The site was clean and wonderfully located. A perfect place to go paddle boarding from. Great views and bird life right on the doorstep.

Lovely part of the countryside but sitting outside with the smallest of umbrellas not sited over the table but to the side, meant that we are almost in full sun on one of the very warmest days this year. None of the tables were properly shaded and the people next to us had to more inside as the sweat was just pouring off them. We were given menus but we too early for part of hit - needed to be 11.30 to have avocados ( 11.15!) I understand this except why give the menu but not tell us this when the menus handed to us. Scone coproduced was the consistency of a brick obviously not baked fresh but left over (and out) from previous day. A real shame sit could be a very niece place with nice staff.

I have visited this coffee house multiple times with friends and family. There have been a few niggles in the service before, but overall the other visits have fortunately (for the cafe) increased my average rating as our last visit ended a bit less favourably....

Perfect! Plentiful parking, super efficient, friendly, customer focussed staff, wonderful menu, fabulous food in a wonderful setting. Thank goodness I booked, the place was buzzing with many happy customers. Highly recommended - I’ll certainly be returning!

This is a great place the staff in the coffee shop make you feel welcome, the food is fantastic, the views terrific and you really enjoy your relaxing cup of coffee here. Really recommend

We absolutely love everything about this cafe, it's location is great - right on the water, the decor is fab and food amazing - also lovely waiting staff, had originally planned to go to fields (closed Monday) was so glad it was, as Constable Park...

What a fab find! Excellent coffee, wonderful food ( cheese scones to die for) . Staff who were so helpful and welcoming- why are there not more places like this? We WILL be back!
